IPhoto & System Preferences freezing.

When I click on my iPhoto to run, the screen appears but says not responding. This has been happening for some time now. What do I do? Also I can't change my screensaver or desktop because system preferences and finder freezes when I click on those options. HELP!

  • My system preferences freezes every time i try to change my desktop

Each time I open my system preferenes to change my desktop picture, system preferences freezes. I have tried moving my iphoto library to another location and that didnt work. Does anyone have any other solutions?

    Could be corrupted preferences...
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.systemprefeences.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, open System Preferences, try again.

lion, system preferences freezes when I tried to change wall paper, how do I fix this?

Quit System Preferences if it's running. In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following item to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • Systems Preferences freezes and unresponsive in Lion.

After updating to new Lion OS my System Preferences freezes up, and unresponsive. Have to do a false quit to exit. I accidently requested a picture file that no longer exists to get picture for destop and sreen saver when app froze up and cannot do anything, that requires changing preferences.

If anyone is still having this issue, try this fix:
    1. open Terminal and type
chflags nohidden ~/Library (this will unhide your library folder in Lion)
    2. open Finder and navigate to Mac HD/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.desktop.plist
    3. in Terminal type
chflags hidden ~/Library (to hide your library folder)

  • HT5303 System Preferences freezes

Anytime I try to press the "+" button in the network preferences, the System Preferences freezes and I have to force quit. Why is this happening?

Force quit System Prefs. Control-Option-esc together. Open Console Utility; Applications>Utilities.  Select 'system log'.  Leave Console open. Repeat opening Sys Prefs>Decktop and Screensavers.  Read thread oin console.  It will clue you into an error on something.  Post what is showing.

  • My system preferences freezes since installing Lion

My system preferences freezes since installing Lion can no longer gain access AT ALL, frankly really annoyed as Mac is only 3 months old, any idea when the bug fixes are happening.

    Could be corrupted preferences...
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.systemprefeences.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, open System Preferences, try again.

  • System Preferences freezes while opening Sharing

    System Specs :
    Hardware :
    iMac8,1
2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Software :
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
    Fully updates snow leopard
It was running smoothly till I checked "upgrade software" and upgraded the listed upgrades i.e. iTune, Aiprport utility, and JAVA. Just after the upgrade, other computers could not connect to my iMac through ssh (Remote Login). It syas connection refused.
My iMac connects to the network through Aitrport. The Airport versions (after upgrade is now given below)
Airport Base Station Agent : 1.5.5
    Airport Utility : 5.6.1
I tried to look at the System Preferences Sharing tab, but when I click Sharing, System Preferences freezes. Otherwise System Preferences works but only when I click the Sharing preference, it freezes and I have to quit it through Force Quit.
I tried to delete the system preference plist from Library/Preferences and tried deleting library cache but nothing works. I am helpless now as my computer is being shared through the network all the time.
I don't know whether Airport is the culprit. But the problem happened just after the Airport upgrade. Otherwise I never changed anything in the network.
Please advise. Thanks for your suggestions.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Accounts, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does Sharing pane work in the new account?

  • System preference freezes when i select icloud or mail accounts.

i migrated from mobile me to icloud and now the system preference freezes when i select icloud or mail accounts. The resources are 100% utilized. I also updated the software. Am using Lion OS X
Any Help , i need to get out of this.

No guarantees, what you might like to try the following:
    1. Sign out of your account
(If you are unable to do this because System Preferences has frozen, Force Quit System Preferences and try again)
    2. When prompted, opt to delete, contacts, calendars etc from your Mac.
(You are only deleting this data from your Mac, not from iCloud, the data will be reinstated when you log back in. If you need to check that the data is in iCloud before deleting it go to iCloud.com and check each section for data)
    3. Having logged out, check that the iCloud accounts along with their data have disappeared from the Mail, Address Book and iCal Applications.
(If necessary, delete the iCloud accounts from each of these application separately from each Applications Preferences)
    4. At this point it may be worth trying to log into iCloud from the System Preferences iCloud settings again, if this works, all well and good, if it doesn't continue to step 5.
    5. Open your User Library folder in the Finder. (When in the Finder, go to the Go menu, hold down the option key (alt) and choose Library when it appears in the Go menu)
    6. Navigate to Library > Application Support > iCloud and drag the iCloud folder to your desktop. (This action only copies the folder and will provide you with a back up)
    7. Select the iCloud folder again in Library > Application Support and drag it to the trash, enter your administrators password when prompted.
    8. Restart your computer.
    9. You should now be able to enter your ID and Password in system Preferences > iCloud and log into your account. Check the services you wish to use and once you are satisfied it's working as it should, trashh the iCloud folder you copied to your desktop earlier.

  • System Preference freezes when I want to change desktop background picture

My system preference freezes when I try to change my desktop background picture, any help, I tried disk utility repair, couldn't find the files to trash.

Login to the problematic account ensure that System Preferences is closed down.  Move the following file to trash:
    <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
but don't delete it from the trash yet, just in case you need to restore it.  Re-open System Preferences, it will re-create the file.  If all's well then, then you can empty the trash.

    In the Finder, select

  • System Preferences freezes when trying to change background

    Hi,
Every time I try to change my background, system preferences freezes and I have to manually quit.
Can somebody tell me how to solve this?
    Thanks.

You are probably running 10.4.10 in as much as the MacBook pro's came out well after 10.4.1 was released. In any case try deleting the file com.apple.systempreferences.plist in your user/library/preferences folder.

  • Installed Lion, change wallpaper, "desktop & screensaver" freeze, force quit, then "system preferences" freeze and need force quit every time

After Lion install, tried to change wallpaper in "system preferences"->"desktop & screensaver" appeared but immediatly freeze, so force quit.
Then System preference pane as it immediatly freezes if I try to open it.  Have to "force quit" each time.
Found many people have the exact issue and highly likely it's the bug of lion.
    Anybody found a solution?  Thx.

It has to do with a problem accessing the images on the home>images folder. To solve it, just move its content (iphoto library included) to another place. Then, restart System Preferences. Moving your iPhoto library to another location seems to fix the problem. I am sure Apple will issue an update to correct this problem. But, for now this seems to work for me.

  • System preferences freezes on screen saver

    Hello,
Anytime I access my system preferences - screen saver - I get the spinng wheel and it freezes up.  I can change my wallpaper and it only happens on the screen saver section of my system preferences.
I've tried the following fixes based on previous commuity
    1)
    Force Quit System Preferences
    Move iPhoto Library to desktop
    reload iPhoto
    retry system preferences
    2)
Tried looking for com.apple.... files people recommended in the library to delete
Was unable to find the file.
I'm on the Macbook Pro, late 2013. OS X 10.9.1
I just transititioned over from pc to Macbook so I beg your pardon if my "jargon" isn't up to your speed.  Any help is appreciated - thanks in advance.

  • System Preferences freezes in 10.9

Hi, I am running a mid-2012, 13" Macbook Pro with 8Gb of RAM, and have installed Mavericks. Mostly everything is running fine (some strange occasional scrolling weirdness with Safari notwithstanding) - but I am continually encountering a problem with System Preferences. I have been trying to access the iCloud pane, but it gets stuck on "loading iCloud" and becomes unresponsive - I can neither click on another preference pane to swap out of my choice, nor can I close System Preferences. I have had to click outside of the window, entering Finder, and force quit.
I noticed this same freeze happened when I tried to access Desktop/Screen Saver after re-launching System Preferences, too. I just tried again and was able to access every other pane.
Can anyone help with this? The reason I'm trying to access iCloud in SP is that I'm going to get the new iPad tomorrow, and I'd like to be able to have my Safari bookmarks on it. I used to be able to sync these via iTunes but it seems you can't do that anymore? I'd be happy if someone gave me a solution to this, even more than the SP problem (which I think may be sorted out with 10.9.1 whenever it comes...)
    Thanks.

Update on my previous post and a new solution.
Previously, I was having issues with Mail crashing and the same issue everyone else is having with iCloud not loading in system preferences.  I had gotten temporary relief by going online to iCloud.com and doing Account Settings > Advanced and clicking on Reset Documents & Data, but this only worked for 1 day.  I finally solved the issue (working now for more than one week) by doing the following:
    1) Deleting the following folders:
    ~/Library/Application Support/iCloud/
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.AddressBook
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.iCal
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
    2) Opening KeyChain Access and clicking the following:
    > Preferences > General > Reset My Default Keychain
After doing all this, I had to enter my login details for everything all over again (since I reset my keychain), which has been somewhat of a hassle, but at least the problem has been solved.
My theory is that this problem is linked to iCloud and so my approach was to delete all traces of links to any iCloud accounts that I had logged into before.  It may be possible to resolve this issue without going through all of these steps, I am just sharing everything I did since I did not try one thing at a time.  In any case, I have been trouble free now for more than a week so I believe that the issue is finally resolved.

  • System preferences freezes

When i open my system preferences, it freezes. i have done a force quit, restart, shut down still freezes. When it opens all it says is loading images.

This morning (Sydney EST), I clicked on to System Preferences and seems to be working OK now.
Not sure what changed between yesterday and today, though I had left system preferences in "Hang" last night (in other words I didn't do a forced quit when it seemingly froze).
This morning was able to change wallpaper no problem and was able to go into other system preferences and have a play around.
I hope someone with more wit than I can make sense of all this.
    Thanks - mfbe
