IPhoto tag process started assigning bogus names

Last night, I was tagging people and places to all of my past photos. The mac was NOT plugged in.  After making great headway, my project was brought to a halt due to bogus names (the same group of names) being assigned to every pic.  I wasn't able to change anything and the software ended with locking up.   I shut laptop down and re-started.  Same thing.  Soo, I put the process to bed for the evening.  Plugged in the Mac and shut everything down as properly as possible (had to force the shut down on iPhoto).
This morning?... I start up the laptop and go into iPhoto.  Went back to the 'event' that I was working in.  All seemed fine until I hit the same picture that seemed to cause the problem.  From there, those names kept appearing on EVERY photo in every event.  Again, I can't delete the name OR the photo AND iPhoto locked up.
Any suggestions?

Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - apply Option #4, Rebuild Database.
3 - try naming again.

  • Help with importing photos - IPhoto assigning file names that already exist

When I import photos from my canon powershot camera, IPhoto has begun assigning file names that are the same as filenames that already exist on photos imported previously. It appears it is deleting those older files (when I go look in my photo library, the older one with the same name is now gone).
I don't know how to name photos as they are imported as it seems to be done automatically and I'm afraid to import more photos and loose my old pics. Can't find anything on the internet when I search on this question - can anyone help?

Thanks so much for your quick reply, TD.
What happens when I plug in my camera is that Iphoto opens, asks me if I want to import photos (and if I want to delete originals), and I click okay or whatever and they are imported. I name the roll/folder, and I photo puts them in the library in that folder in that year.
It makes sense that the camera is numbering them. I think that the ones it is using the same numbers for (ie - IMG0080.jpg) are the numbers on older photos that were assigned by a different camera that we used to have.
So I guess the canon isn't searching on all photo names that have been used, just the ones that it has used in the past.
Unfortunately, when the new photo is named with the same name as an old one, that old one is literally deleted - at least as far as I can tell - and when I go look for it in my photo library, it is no longer there.
I might try to see if there are any help forums for the canon powershot and see what I might learn there.
THanks so much for your help!

You need to reinstall as iPhoto is missing bits of itself.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

    You need to reinstall.

  • Jdbc sender adapter  hangs and starts showing "Processing Started" forever

    Dear ,
We are facing some issues with jdbc sender adapter channel on production system
              Environment : XI 3.0 SP 20 + HP-UX 11.23 ia64 + Oracle 10.2
Sometimes it hangs and starts showing "Processing Started" forever on communication channel monitoring .
There is no error log for this.
If i stop it and then start it , no use.
If i copied this to a new one then it works.
I have found few SAP note like 1078420,1083488 , but my system is already at higher patch level.
Can you please advise me something as we are facing in production frequently.
    Regards,
    Sandeep

    Hi Sandeep,
This problem even we too faced in our project and thought of many stupid things finally found that the JDBC adapter is LOCKED.
Check in the Visual Admin >Cluster> "LOCKING ADAPTER"
we get a option of Display Locks .Check for an entry with
    NAME : $XIDBAD.JDBC2XI
reset the locks and restart the CC ,now it works fine.
Note 1083488 - XI FTP/JDBC sender channel stop polling indefinitely(04/04S)
    Thanks
    Sudharshan

  • FTPs - Status stuck in "Processing started"

    I am running PI7.0 SP10.
I have a BPM conencting to a FTPs server to process multiple files into variable directories.  All works well - apart from...
It is connecting to the Server okay, but not actually processing.
In the Message monitoring, it says - Processing started
Here is the audit log...  The names have been changed to protect the innocent!
Success Message successfully received by messaging system. Profile: XI URL: http://server.fqdn:5<SYSNO>00/MessagingSystem/receive/AFW/XI Credential (User): XIISUSER
Success Using connection File_http://sap.com/xi/XI/System. Trying to put the message into the receive queue.
Success Message successfully put into the queue.
Success The message was successfully retrieved from the receive queue.
Success The message status set to DLNG.
    Success Delivering to channel: FTP_Receiver_EmployeeLookUp
    Success MP: entering
Success MP: processing local module localejbs/CallSapAdapter
Success File adapter receiver: processing started; QoS required: ExactlyOnce
Success File adapter receiver channel FTP_Receiver_EmployeeLookUp: start processing: party " ", service "XE_TST_3RD_FTP_001"
Success Connect to FTP server "ftp.ftp.ftp.ftp", directory "/variable/"
    This is stuck in processing...
I have spoken to the "owners" of the ftp site...
In the their logs, they can see the connection, and "session started".
Has anyone come across this before?  How can this be fixed/released and actually process?

    Barry:
I was watching your thread from the day you posted since we had the same issue
Even we have the same issue for the past month..we tried all sort of solutions to get rid of the problem but were not able to....its still exist..we have logged a ticket to SAP support and waiting for them
for the time being we used "Availability Time Planning" to schedule the polling which is like forcing the channel to wake up and die in the time interval we want....
(sometimes even it stops but not as frequent as the above)
if you find permanent solution to your problem let me know

  • Iphoto won't start. photo won't start because I need Library Upgrader? where can I get I as don't have the original disc.

iphoto won't start because I need Library Upgrader? where can I get I as don't have the original disc.

Sounds like you have a damaged library7  To check launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a test library. If you can import a few photos.  If that works then your original library is damaged so make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Iphoto keywords are not assigned and do not appear in the info.

Until recently I was able to very easily apply my own keywords to my photos.  Now, when I go thru the same/similar proces of selecting multiple photos and start assigning keywords, the keywords list is found and finds the words as I type, when I hit enter, it flashes and does not assign a keyword to the photo.
    I am using iphoto 11 9.3
    Help please

Try using the Keyword pane to assign keywords to single or multiple photos.  Select the photos, bring up the keyword pane open (Command+K) and click on the keywords you want to assign:
Assigned keywords to those photos will display blue.
This may only be a workaround but, IMO, it's a more efficient way to assign keywords.

  • IPhoto does not start up after upgrading

On my new iMac iPhoto does not start up after migrating. Upgrade from iPhoto 6/Snow Leopard > Lion 10.7.1 with iPhoto 9.1.5. When the conversion is finished I can see the new library, it works allright. And with packet-inspection (or how is that called in English) all maps & data seems to be OK; I can check the seperate pics.
But: iPhoto won't start up a second time (grey screen with infinite spinning wait cursor). The same thing is happening when I add a new library and drop in some pictures.
    What can cause this problem?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Iphoto tags not working in facebook

While I am not new with using iPhoto, I am new at sharing a photo album from iPhoto on Facebook.
I went on a trip, added my new photos to iPhoto, created a new album of just the photos I wanted to share but before sharing them on Facebook, I went thru all the photos and gave each a name (so that it didn't say IMG_0514 or whatever the default is) and then tagged the faces. Took me forever. Then I shared the album to Facebook.
At quick glance I thought everything was fine, but then I noticed a couple of things I didn't like. First was the formatting of the photo description on Facebook. For example, in a photo that had two people in it, I gave it the title "Alex & Friend" and tagged Alex's face. But when it shows up on Facebook, it says "Alex & Friend - with Alex Lastname." I didn't realize it was going to do that so I guess I have to figure out how best to title photos without using names in the titles.
Secondly, the name "Alex Lastname" was not a blue link on Facebook. It was just black text. So Alex did not know I just posted a photo of him since he was not "tagged" in the Facebook manner.
To correct this, I had to use Facebook to tag the photo. But then I ended up with "Alex & Friend - with Alex Lastname & Alex Lastname". One was just black text and one was a blue Facebook link. I then had to edit the photo and figure out which Alex Lastname to remove. Of course I guessed wrong, so I had to delete both Alex's and retag the photo.
I really don't want to do this for all 150 photos.
And now that the album has been up for a day, my friends have been tagging the photos like crazy. So a photo with six people in it will have twelve tags - six from iPhoto that are not the blue links and six from Facebook that are the links. Cleaning them up will be a pain, especially since I am not friends with everyone in the photos, so the best I can do is untag everyone and tag the ones I know.
What did I do wrong? Why won't the iPhoto tags act like Facebook tags? Is there any way I can fix this in iPhoto that will clean things up in Facebook?
    Thanks!
    Paul
    btw - latest iPhoto.

I have the same problem, I've made custom tags and they just don't work.
    Very frustrating.

Fortunately, Google Chrome crashes in exactly the same way, and the geniuses at Google have devised a solution that does not require reinstalling the entire operating system.  The same steps that they recommend also work for fixing iPhoto.
