Iphoto takes at least 10 minutes to open

This is really dumb. I have 5000 photos and it takes more than 10 minutes to open Iphoto. I wanted to show some pictures this weekend and I was embarrassed to tell my sister that it would take like 15 minutes to open them. I would only expect this nonsense on a windows machine. Doesn't someone have a answer?

Do you have Windows installed via Bootcamp? Try unmounting that partition. The problem is caused by Spotlight trying to index it.

Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.
Memory in the MacBook Air is not upgradable. If that's what you have, you should restore the previous system from a backup, or replace the machine. Ask if you need guidance.
The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB  RAM installed.  The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.

Need help. I am running a 27 in imac with 16 gigs of ram. Photoshop runs really fast, except when opening files. It takes 5-10 minutes to open even a small file of 1 meg. When I try to open a file with TextEdit, I get the spinning beachball and the file takes almost a minute to open. When I just start TextEdit everything is fine. Also when I log on with another account TextEdit works like a charm, even when opening an existing file.
What I have done so far:
    checked permissions in Disk Utility
    validated all fonts
    deleted all canon printer drivers
    deleted all preferences
Nothing has helped. Mail shows the same behavior as TextEdit. What else can I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPhoto takes 4-5 minutes to launch...new problem as of today

Hi all, I'm on my phone typing as my Internet is down...all kinds of problems today so bear with me.
Suddenly today my iPhoto started acting weird. Well, it as well as the other iLife programs. At first I was noticing that, when quitting, the apps would hang, including iPhoto. I'd either have to force quit or give it a good 3 minutes.
I started by repairing pemissions. That didn't help at all.
So next I trashed the iPhoto .plist. That really screwed things up as iPhoto would launch, but would only give me the iPhoto window....there was no content.
I then rebuil the library. When I launched it, it again sat there for a while. However, I did finally pull up my photos, everything intact. So I quit it and launched again...and that brings me to where I'm at. It launches, but it takes approximately 4-5 minutes for it to finally do so. The spinnig wheel is up that whole time. Thus has never happened. All of my iLife apps have always been super snappy, opening in mere seconds. That includes iPhoto...it was one of the fastest, but now takes about 5 minutes to launch.
The only change tithe machine is that I installed adobe lightroom 3 the other day, but that also seemed fine...meaning the problem just cropped up today.
This seems to be affecting iTunes as well.
Any idea what in the world is going on and more importantly, know a remedy? I've done all I know to do per above. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Okay, here's what I found out. Followed the above instructions...no joy. I think this maybe needs to be posted in a general OS forum, as I'm thinking this is more about that vs just being about iPhoto/iTunes. Here's what I tried and learned.
A new account allowed iPhoto to open up immediately. However, iTunes seemed a touch slow...not sure if that is just due to it being a new account. So, I deleted that account and moved on to the preferences instructions above.
I removed all preferences and placed them in a "preferences A" folder on the desktop. Launched iPhoto and got the exact same results. Super slow...took forever to open. Took forever to close. Same with iTunes.
So I placed all of the removed preferences back into the folder and decided to start launching and closing apps to see what's affected, what's not. Here are the findings.
iPhoto - The worst of all. Takes 4 minutes to open.
Mail - Opens fine, closes very slowly...apprx 1 minute
Calculator - This now opens incredibly slowly. Also noticed that the blue light below a launching app in the dock that seems to radiate was not radiating immediately....just sort of sat there. About a minutes passes, then it radiates for a second and calculator opens. Quitting is instant
Garageband - Launching is slooooow, quitting is instant.
Lightroom 3 - quitting is slow....quit results in upper-left menu items flashing once, then beach ball for about 30 seconds.
These apps check out perfectly fine with no problems launching or quitting: iCal, Safari, Firefox, Aperture, Photoshop (CS3), Illustrator (CS3), InDesign (CS3), Acrobat, Suitcase, Image Capture, Disk Utility, Text Edit, Photo booth, Final Cut Pro.
So I'm at a loss. This may be more of an OS issue, but figured I'd post here to follow up on the suggestions given. I think I'll pose a question in the OS forums. I'm thinking this might mean boxing up the iMac and making a trip to the genius bar. It's incredibly frustrating.

  • Orders take over a minute to open

Wondering if anyone is having this problem?
Basically when opening orders if the value of the order is above say £200 then the order takes a long time to open - we are talking at least a minute for smaller orders and a LOT more than that for orders of several hundred pounds.
I have submitted this to the Support team over 5 weeks ago - no reply (it was escalated to 2nd level but no reply from them).

  • Applications take 1-2 minutes to open at startup.

    Hello,
I've had a problem for a while with my iMac taking 1-2 minutes to open applications after startup.
I then cleared up a lot of hard drive space & installed Leopard--and that seemed to do the trick.
But the problem has come back. Any application takes at least one minute to open properly after the computer is started up (Mail, Safari, iTunes etc)
I am running Leopard 10.5.8 with 2GHz INtel Core Duo & 2 GB 667 MHz Memory.
With 45 GBs of free hard drive space.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Marc

What video card is your Windows 8.1 (assumed 64 bit) computer using? NVIDIA GeForce or other?
Please check the Device Manager/Display Adapters to confirm the video card/graphics card and how many cards.
Is the card driver version up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
Are you working from a User Account with Administrative Privileges? And, do you have QuickTime (latest version) installed on
    the computer with Premiere Elements?
Are you  using a pen and tablet device instead of a mouse?
Does the problem exist with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
Please consider the above and then we can decide what next.

  • I recently updated to latest version of ITunes for Windows and now takes 2 - 3 minutes to open and does not see my Iphone?  Any suggestions?

I recently updated my ITines software to version10 and since the update it doesn't recognise my Iphone/  It also takes 2 - 3 minutes from clicking the icon to firing up the software.
Is anyone else having this problem and how was it resolved?
    Thanks

Actually, Chris, I found that page yesterday on my own doing a search, before I wrote my post.  After your instructions didn't work, I found that page and tried deleting the iAdcore.dll and that did not work.  When I tried to open it said it didn't have the iAdcore and could not be opened.  There was no QTMovieWin there to delete.  I again uninstalled everything in the order listed on this new page, because there were 7 things to uninstall (not 5 as your last page suggested).  I found that I had iCloud so that was deleted in the proper order.  Did not have MobileMe on the computer.  Also deleted Apple Application support, which wasn't on your list either.  I restarted the computer.  I looked for any files on drive C program files as indicated, and did not find any of those files.  I went to the iTunes page and downloaded the latest version yet again (maybe the 5th time?).  And I got the same notice:
"The  iTunes Library.itl cannot be found or created.  The default location for this file is in the iTunes folder in the music folder."
I went to that iTunes folder in the music folder there are a number of iTunes library folders and none of the open except one.  The ones that don't open give me the same dialogue box as above.  The last folder opens to a page of codes, I guess that's what it is.  Gobbeldy gook to me.  But that folder is listed at the top in the URL as itTunes Library.xml.  I don't see any .itl.  Is that the folder I need?  And how do I get that??
I don't know if that last paragraph is significant, but I thought I'd include just in case it is.
BTW, can I just download an older version of iTunes?  And how can I find it?  I still have the old version on my old computer which is at home.  Not sure how to get it from that to this one.
Thanks for hanging in there with me.  Perhaps there is someone else who could help if you can't figure it out.

  • 25MB outline takes 5-6 minutes to open

I have an outline which is 25MB in size. It has 4 base dimensions and 12 attribute dimensions. The largest base dimension has 7 generations and 12,000 members. It takes over 5 minutes just to open the outline, or to associate with a load rule. Is this an unusually large outline? Are there any rules to building an outline that should be followed? Thanks!

Was it built with Essbase Integration Services? We have seen a bug where it takes a while to open certain outlines built with EIS; the 6.5.1 client seems to make these open "normally".Tim TowApplied OLAP, Inc

The tutorial project works fine, the TravelRequest.pdf opens just fine: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/library/user-interface-technology/wd%20java/wdjava%20archive/offline%20interactive%20pdf%20form%20using%20download.pdf
Would installing version 8.0 solve this ?
    I am on NWDS sp18.
    Thanks
    Tony

Installing the Adobe 8.0 also improves the performance.

  • FCPX Takes 10-15 Minutes to Open a Library

Starting today, a Library for one of my projects (an actual full project, not the "sequences" unfortunately labeled as Projects by Apple) takes about 10-15 minutes just to open, from Clicking the FCPX logo in the dock, to being in a place where I can select something in the app.
I have a library with 5 separate events within. 3 of the events have about an hour of video each. 2 of the events, which were added today, have a few thousand PNG files for motion graphics clips from After Effects. I'm guessing it's the mass of PNGs in the motion graphics events that are causing Final Cut Pro X to load so slowly.
Is there a way to change/expidite this? I need each of the motion graphics and their corresponding PNG files... I can't toss them away to another library as I have to work with them in sequences and events in my current library. I can't "hide" events like we used to... but I also can't deal with such an excrutiatingly slow app.
    Any ideas/fixes/similar issues out there?

    Thought an update was warranted.
I did indeed use compressor to create Animation video clips out of the PNG image sequences for the motion graphics. I deleted all the PNG files from the Library and imported the video clips, and it now works and opens very quickly.
One random side-note with the Animation video clips: Their natural transparency (the background behind the text should be transparent) was not maintained when I brought them into FCPX. Yes, I checked the Alpha settings in the "Settings" tab of the inspector. Still just a black background. Had to resort to using a Luma Key to get rid of the background, which seems an unfortunate workaround. Image Sequences were exported as Animation Quicktimes at Millions Colors+. Not sure what gives there.
At the end of the day, it's still pretty disappointing that Final Cut Pro X can't handle a bunch of image sequence motion graphics sent from After Effects -- seems like a very common part of a project's workflow.

  • Worksheet takes 5-10 minutes to open/save, crashes when cells are modified

I have a worksheet with about 6 sheets of 1000 rows each. The table cells contain some references between sheets. On my MacBook Pro, it takes 5 to 10 minutes just to open the sheet. Switching between sheets in the document takes several minutes as well. When I try to edit the contents of certain columns in the sheet (the header columns), Numbers uses up 100% of the CPU for a while (sometimes hours) and then crashes.
I understand that this is a very specialized problem, and probably has to do with the worksheet itself. Is there anything I can do via this forum to help diagnose this problem and speed up Numbers behavior? I can post the document if that would help at all, or any other relevant facts about the worksheet. Just let me know what would be most helpful.
    Thanks in advance,
    Adrian

    I never got that.
I have to be patient but I never got crash in such conditions.
When I must open such document, I start by launching "Activity Monitor" so I can make the difference between Numbers heavily busy and a possible crash which I never got.

I discovered recently that on PowerPC machines, Numbers make an heavy use of virtual memory (in fact, HD space) which is an efficient slowdowner.
On Intel machines, the virtual memory use is divided by about five.
You may send the file to my mailbox.
From time to time, I got files with formulas which may be optimised to get a better performance but of course, as an end user like you, I can't change what I often described as a serious design flaw.
Click my blue name to get my address.
CAUTION. Like Numbers, I'm heavily busy so I can't guarantee a fast response.
