IPhoto thinks my USB stick is a camera

Since a few days, iPhoto thinks my 1GB USB stick is a camera. This is very annoying! It feels like Windows where you get asked what to do when you insert a removable storage medium. Is there a way to make it quit this?

Mathias
Change the format of your USB stick
or
Open Image Capture in your Applications Folder. Use the preferences to decide what happens when a camera is connected. Set it to do nothing. The only difference is that you'll have to manually launch iPhoto when you connect a camera.

  • Iphoto thinks my sony psp is a camera... What do I do?

I just upgraded from ilife '06 to ilife '08 today, and I'm having lots and lots of unpleasant surprises. The latest is that iPhoto now thinks my Sony PSP is a camera.
***? This certainly wasn't a problem with iPhoto 6; how do I prevent this while still letting iPhoto recognize my real cameras?

Evidently the formatting of the PSP is such that iPhoto thinks it's a memory card in a camera. You will have to open Image Capture, go to its Preferences and set None as the application to open when a camera is connected. Then manually launch iPhoto when you connect your camera to upload. That's your only option.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Why is it IMPOSSIBLE to send photos from iPhoto to a USB stick??

This is really starting to annoy me.  I want to move photos from one computer to another using a USB stick.  Is that really so difficult?  Yet there is absolutely NO WAY to do this either from iPhoto or Finder.  Or if there is, then it is so totally counter-intuitive that only Apple could have come up with it.  I just wasted an hour of my life on this -- and I am NOT a happy customer.
The problem is that there are several hundred photos.  Do I have to mark and transfer every single photo separately from Finder?

You can find the photos in the finder and copy them over to the USB

  • To upload photos from my pc onto my ipad using a usb stick. I bought a camera connector kit and tried placing the usb stick onto one of the white square adaptors, stuck it into the ipad2 and I got 'the device uses too much power'' message. Pls help.

I am not very familiar with the ipad2. I wished to transfer some photos from my pc (not an apple pc but that is the only one I have) to my ipad2 as I thought it would be easier to cull them, edit, crop etc to create albums for our recent trip (the photos are already on the pc and no longer on the camera memory card). When I place the usb stick on the adaptor and stick it onto the Ipad2 I keep getting 'device uses too much power/ requires too much power' message. I read somewhere on the internet that a usb hub could be used to solve the issue but that did not work either. What am I doing wrong? Is there actually a way around this problem. If not why does apple sell this product for Ipad users at all?
Thank you for any help/ solution you can offer.
    Regards

I'd ask that on the iPad forum.

  • Think M72e start windows 7 with usb stick inserted

I know in the scheme of things my M72e annoyance is pretty minor, but I am more curious than exasperated.
If I try to start the machine with a usb stick in any of the ports it won't boot into windows 7and I get a "No bootable partition in table" message and the machine just hangs there.
If I remove the usb stick and restart, it boots to windows 7 fine.
Obviously, i figured that the machine is trying to boot off the usb stick before the harddrive. So I went into the bios but there is no option to boot off the hardrive first.
I can press F12 and it gives me a one time option to boot off the hardrive but I don't want to have to do this everytime.
Anybody know why Lenovo in its wisdom hobbled the boot choices in the bios?
    Thanks,

  • Why can I not open photos loaded on USB stick from iPhoto on any other computer than a Mac?

I recently loaded a USB stick with various photos from iPhoto & these do not appear when attempted to be opened in My Documents on a Windows computer. Is there any way of fixing this issue?

Check the formatting of the USB stick. You have probably formatted the stick for Mac with a file system MacOS Extended (Journaled). This file system cannot be read by a Windows computer.   Save the photos to different drive and format the USB stick using Disk Utility to a file system both computers can read, MS-DOS   should work.
Disk Utility is located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.

  • How do i transfer a compilation photo file from iPhoto consisting of canon(img) and lumix(p..) in the order i compiled them to a usb stick as at the moment it is putting all the lumix files after the canon files?

    I have a macbook pro 15 inch retina 16 gb 1600mhz 2.7intel i7 osx 10.8.5
I have just put together an iPhoto file of wedding photos consisting of a compilation of images from my canon(img files) and lumix(p..files) I want to know how to transfer them to a usb stick in the order i compiled them as at the moment it is putting all the lumix files after the canon files which is not how i want to present them to the newlyweds?

Files are ordered by the file-viewer being used.  What viewer are you using, and what data field are you sorting by?
In Finder, as in most applications, you can select the data field to sort by clicking a column header.  Clicking the selected header will reverse the sort.
This is the Aperture forum, but what applies to Aperture is likely also true for iPhoto:  if you want to be able to sort your files in a specific order in a file-viewer, you should give them names that allow for sorting in that order when the name field is selected as the data field to sort by.  In Aperture, one creates new files by exporting, and one uses a File Naming Preset to name the files.  The File Naming Preset can start with an ordinal count or a sequence number.  Either of which will allow you to retain your order when viewing your files in a file viewer.

  • NEED HELP! - Installing Camera raw presets from USB Stick

NEED HELP! -installing Camera raw presets from USB Stick.
I am attempting to install the Camera Raw Presets.
It says to put them into User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/Settings...
When I get to CameraRaw the ONLY folders in there are CameraProfiles & Lens Profiles.
I have searched everywhere looking for a CameraRaw-Settings folder and cannot find one.
I have latest version of CameraRaw installed and still no settings folder.
I even attempted to find it by looking in camera raw where it has saved the custom settings I made as presets and it shows that they are saved but will not show me where.
I am using CS5 specifically Photoshop v12.0.4 and Bridge. I have Lightroom 4. I have iMac OS  10.7.3
Do I need to reinstall Camera Raw and how do you do that?
Will I then lose my presets that I made in CameraRaw?
    Thanks for your help

Why is it no longer required to place the plug-in file in the specified directory on my hard drive?
The Camera Raw update process has grown to include lens profile and camera profile files which are easiest to install via a single installer process instead of updating several different directories manually.

Everytime I boot my iPhoto starts because it thinks its a memorycard or a camera... the funny thing is that if I close and restart iPhoto it's not there

If you don't plan to move this disk to a Windows PC, I recommend you reformat it with the Disk Utility to use Journaled Mac HFS (the default file system for Macs). That will wipe the disk clean, so temporarily store your files somewhere else. HFS is more reliable, and uses a naming scheme that is 100% compatible with all your Mac applications. iMovie in particular doesn't work well with FAT file systems (this comes up on the iMovie forum a lot).

  • IOS4.2 kills Camera Kit operation in combination with USB-Sticks and more

    Hi guys,
When I decided to go for an iPad, one of the main reasons why not to stay with Microsoft was the connectivity in combination with cameras and USB-sticks.
Well then, the update to iOS4.2 killed this because the software seems to lower the max.current limit from 200mA down to some 20mA. This "unfriendly" action by Apple is in my opinion fraud. I bought a lot of accessories to work with the iPod and all of them I can now dump into the trash cane, because Apple is doing the same ignorant "politics" to consumer just like their biggest rival Microsoft.
This is company arrogance in excellence....
...never again an Apple product, that was is, over

I'm experiencing the same problem and Apple is jacking me around. A great product but behind the phone are no customer service.
Bring back the true IPAD and apple fix the problem.
Apple can read the Dissuasions and do something about it.
    Unhappy customer too

Can you download data to a usb stick using the cammera connector?

The camera connection kit can only be used to import photo/video files form a camera, SD card or USB flash drive. You can't import other types of files. You can't export any type of files using the camera connection kit.

  • Is there a way of viewing photos from a USB stick without adding them to my iPhoto Library

Is there a way of viewing photos from a USB stick without adding them to my iPhoto Library? I am using OS Snow Leopard.

Use the Preview application. If you have it in your dock you can drag a group of photos to the icon and they'll open with the first picture large and the rest as thumbnails to the side. Use the buttons at the top to go to the next picture and zoom in or out.

    Hi,

USB cameras either internal laptop or external USB can fail if a device you connect either has a driver issue or saps too much power from the controller/motherboard either by design or due to more than standard current draw.  So the issue could be related to that one USB stick or even the internal USB cable in the laptop if fatigued too much and it's sensitive to the current changes.  You should see if this happens with other USB devices, powered or not powered.  There is also a possibility it's motherboard related.  You might want to put a hub (ideally powered) between the thumb drive and your computer and see if that helps.  If software related the presence of the USB stick may be causing explorer-like crashing or freezing when the drive letter is added and an error might be present in the Windows system logs possibly pertaining to a Windows explorer shell add-in or USB root hub problems.  You also may want to scan for viruses/malware (malwarebytes.org) just in case adding something causes something to trigger.
You can also follow the guidance I provided in this thread to see if anything changes.
