IPhoto thumbnails are missing

A few hours ago I imported a new movie into iMovie. Something went wrong and now all of my iMovie thumbnails are missing from iPhoto in the event area. The only movies I see are ones I imported, nothing from iPhoto is showing anymore. When I click on the camera icon and go to the folder where my movies are in iPhoto nothing shows up. And for some reason my movie is stalling now when I play it where as before it was playing smoothly, well the movie I have so far.
I have tried to delete the iMovie cache file, it took 3 hours to rebuild my thumbnails and they were still not there. I deleted the new files I imported into iPhoto and emptied the trash. Any idea how to fix it? I don't really need all the old thumbnails back as long as I can reinsert them and it doesn't look like iMovie can see them anymore. I wouldn't even care about that if my current movie wasn't stalling, I can hear the sound but the picture pauses. Anyone?

Hi
Just thinking - Have You tested to turn off Your Mac and re-boot from zero ?
In many cases this helps - might do so now too.

  • After a rebuild/repair of my photo library thumbnails are missing for RAW images.

Every few months I rebuild my iPhoto library to make sure the database stays clean and up to day. This time was different though - after the rebuild/repair of my photo library thumbnails are missing for all RAW images (Canon). Images from other cameras and jpegs are all fine. Only the events with Canon RAW images have no thumbnails.
I am rebuilding the thumbnails once again but has anyone else seen this issue? Losing thumbnails to RAW images during a rebuild?

Every few months I rebuild my iPhoto library to make sure the database stays clean and up to day.
There is no need to do this. It doesn't achieve anything.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • My iphoto photos are missing, what should i do?

    hi
my iphoto photos are missing, what should i do?
    can anyone help me please.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • IPhoto thumbnails disappear - missing photos

iPhoto crashed a few days ago, and I had to rebuild the library. After this was done, my events were all out of order but the photos were still in tact. However, there were about 100 photos in one event that were missing. They were represented by black squares. The thumbnails would show for an instant while I was scrolling through the event, but then the thumbnails would disappear and turn black. When I selected a photo, it showed a black exclamation warning sign.
I back up to Time Machine, so I tried to restore my iPhoto library from an older backup. Those same 100 photos seem to be corrupt in every single backup since the photos were taken. To make it even harder for me to understand, I actually viewed these 100 photos in iPhoto last week and they were fine, so I know they haven't been corrupt since they were imported to iPhoto.
    Are these photos recoverable?

The exclamation mark is an indication that the link/file path between the thumbnail and the master photo has been broken. Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - apply Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • IPhoto thumbnails are blank, but maximized photo shows up.

I had to power of my iMac while iPhoto was uploading some photographs. When I turned it back on, iPhoto prompted me to restore the library. I said yes. Now the thumbnails aren't appearing, and when you double click a photo to maximize it, it briefly shows up with the grey yeild "!" icon and then the photo shows up, but the thumbnails are still grey. Is there a fix for this?

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window.
2 - Run Option #2, Rebuild Thumbnails.  It could take more than one pass to get the job done.

  • Iphoto thumbnails are disappearing....

Some of my thumbnails have disappeared. When I click on the photo all I get is a circle with a question mark in it. Are the photos gone for good? I recently moved from a PC to a Mac and have imported most of the photos from an external hard drive. thanks for your help

Well, tried that (took over 4 hours)... about 20 pictures are missing--- from the same event. I no longer have these pictures on a photo card (and as yet have not hooked up Time Capsule as my permanent back-up). Any other thoughts as to where the missing pictures disappeared?? They are not life or death but they were there last week.

  • My iPhoto thumbnails are trashed photos...

... and yet when opened, produce the larger version of photos - in order - not trashed at all.
Apologies if this is repeated anywhere; I'm quite ignorant and tend not to fiddle with things hidden (like directories), but I'm at a loss as to what to do.
Out of the 7000+ photos I kept on my MBP up to last week, I trashed about 4000 and this is what has happened.  Photo Browser looks fine when emailing, with everything where it should be, but iPhoto (version 8.1.2) presents the first 200-odd thumbnails as photos and movies I thought I'd gotten rid of and, when clicked upon, the photos I kept are 'underneath'.
It's time for me to clear this machine out and reload what I need, but I'm a little wary of starting this and maybe losing the vital photos.
Could anyone offer me a reason?  A solution?  (In really easy-to-follow steps?)
    Thanks,
    Louise

  • Event thumbnails are missing

My event thumbnails has dissapeared but all the pictures are still in them, however one picture appears as the thumbnail in all my events. I have a iphoto libery of 45,000 pictures. Help why and how do I fix this dissaster.
    Thanks

I found another thread and it looks like basically you're hosed if repair/rebuild doesn't work and you have to re-create all the events:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11633855#11633855
    suck.
Anyway I tried Autosplitting Events which split the files (which was great) but just means I need to go through and resort and rename all the of the fracking events again, going back 10+ years.
    <sigh>
I guess the only good thing for me is that I have a 12 hours flight back to the states, and 12 hours back to the east coast so have ample time to do this, but may switch to another photo program because of this.
Anyone else if you have any suggestions or ideas to try to fix I'd apprecaite it.
Any ideas or recommendations on alternative to iphoto would be great. I'm leaning towards picasaweb due to the fb and picasa integration...
    Thanks,

  • ALL of my photos and my iPhoto library are missing!!!

Anytime I want to download photos (whether it is from an SSD card, iPhone or iPad) I simply plug in the device, wait for iPhoto to open, then choose the photos I want to upload. Today when I did so a message appeared saying "Which photo library do you want iPhoto to use?". The window options were blank! There were no libraries!!! I did a bit of research on the web and looked at quite a few other discussion threads. I cannot find my iPhoto library anywhere - under my user account, etc.
I have done nothing out of the ordinary lately. The last update to the system was May 22nd: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2.1
I don't have a back-up, because the 1TB external hard drive I have has other files on it, and I haven't wanted to erase them to use it for Time Machine. And I can't afford another external hard drive at the moment. I HAVE transferred about 60-70% of my photo library, but not all of it. Also, I downloaded iPhoto Library Manager as some of the other threads suggested. It found no other libraries to restore.
Can anyone tell me why my photos would have mysteriously disappeared in the past two days (my iMac is at work - a church where no one has been the past few days due to the holidays)? And where they might be?
This is serious!! (hundreds, if not thousands, of pics missing)
    Thanks!

    Give this fix a try:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager demo version and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
4 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • I right clicked on a image and now all my thumbnails are missing, how do I get them back?

I was in Facebook trying to delete/block an image from my likes (I wanted to delete the like but couldn't so I thought I would just block the image) Anyway what I clicked on in the right click box took all my thumbnails off of Facebook. I would like to get them back, how do I do this?
    thank you

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
Check the image exceptions: Tools > Options > Content: Load Images: Exceptions<br />
You can see the permissions for the server in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions<br />
*A way to see which images are blocked is to click the favicon (<i>Site Identification</i> icon) on the left side of the location bar.
*A click on the "More Information" button will open the Security tab of the "Page Info" window (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
*Open the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Page Info" window.
*Select the first image and scroll down though the list with the Down arrow key.
*If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

  • Iphoto Albums are missing

I just got back from vacation and when I went to upload my pictures from my camera I noticed IPhoto no longer shows my old albums. I use to be able to retrieve all my pictures from the picture folder, but with Iphoto 09 they no longer give you a folder to get your pictures back. ahhh Please help. Where do I find my pictures on my hard drive or on my Time Machine? Is there a hidden folder I'm just not finding or an Album folder? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails try Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Your files are stored in the iPhoto Library in your Pictures Folder. With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Unix Style Package File. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
You can see inside: right click on the Library icon and choose ‘Show Package Contents’.

  • IPhoto pictures are missing

I wanted to put pictures on my MacBook with my Camera, but when I opened iPhoto, all my pictures were gone! Where are they? How can I find them?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • DPS Folio Producer: Editor thumbnails are missing.

How to you get thumbnails to appear within the DPS dashboard?
I can see them in the list view, but not in the thumbnail view window. The appear fine on the iPad Adobe Viewer.

  • Missing iPhoto Thumbnail Images in iMovie Project Library

    Okay, here goes...
I'd created a short movie and have it in iMovie's project library. The movie included video footage from a dv camera as well as video from my digital photo camera. I recently reorganized and merged several events folders in iPhoto from my vacation, which included parts of the video used in the iMovie short movie project. Now, when I select the project in iMovie, some of the thumbnails are missing from the video sequence to the right of the project name.
It still plays (thankfully), but it's irritating me that I cannot figure out why the thumbnails have disappeared.
Does it have something to do with merging iPhoto files? If so, or even if not, how do I fix this and have the thumbnails reappear?

Something similar is happening to me. I created a project a couple of months ago in iMovie '08, and now the "upper window" thumbnails are showing with an exclamation mark - but just the video clips! The photos are still there. You can see the thumbnail with the exclamation mark and when you drag the cursor through it to see it play, it only does in the little damaged thumbnail but not in the screen. After touching it, it becomes black. It does not play at all when the project is played completely. I someone finds out how to solve this, please advise.
    Thanks so much.
