IPhoto+Tiger is freezing my computer

I recently had Tiger installed on my G5. I began to have problems with iPhoto stalling during photo uploads. Now it is not only stalling, but eventually freezing while the ball spins, then, if I leave the computer for 15-20 minutes, the computer freezes and I must re-start with the button on the front of the computer. I read some of the posts. So I started iPhoto with shift/command/option pressed and clicked yes to rebuilding my photo library. It was taking forever. I left for a few hours. When I returned it said that iPhoto had quit. I checked my Pictures folder and found two library folders. I compared the content. All photos seemed to be in the new library folder, although the file names of the thumbnails were different. I moved the old library file to the desktop and removed the -1 from the file name of the second, leaving it in the Pictures folder. I opened iPhoto and it opened with nothing in it. I restarted iPhoto with the option key down, it asked me to find a library, I moused to the new library file in the pictures folder and clicked open. iPhoto opened but still nothing in it. I tried this a few more times and still the new library would not open when I depressed the option key while opening iPhoto, then clicked open after mousing to the new library. Help.

I used the finder to open the library folders (old and new) so I could compare to see if they both had the same content, but I didn't do anything to the content. I opened the year and month and date folders to I could compare content, file by file. And I changed the name of the new library folder by deleting the -1 that separated it from the old library folder.

Apparently there's some preference files other than iPhoto's that may be causing the problem. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
Trouble Shooting Preferences
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Home/Library folder and Option-drag (copy) the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
3 - select the contents of your Home/Library/Preferences folder and drag them into the Trash bin in the Dock. You will be asked to provide your Admin password.
4 - reboot. Be sure to know your account's username and password as you will be asked to log in with it.
5 - run the application again and determine if the problem(s) is fixed.
6 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
B - Open the Preferences folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Home/Library/Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace or Skip button.
D - reboot.
7 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the contents of the Preference folder on the Desktop into the Home/Library/Preference folder and replace the entire contents that were created by clicking on Replace.
8 - reboot and you're back as square one.
Note: keep the Preference folder on the desktop until you're sure all registration info for your apps are working. If not you can copy the required files from the desktop pref folder to the working one.

I can't upload any pics to the web from iphoto anymore, I click "upload pictures" and it freezes my computer

Whenever I click "upload pictures" from websites like picmonkey, shutterfly, jibjab, iphoto doesn't pop up like it us to..suddenly when it does, I'm unable to click on any pics and then it freezes my computer and I have to "force quit" everything open to use safari.. THis has been happening for approx 2 wks now

i have snow leopard and installed iphoto 11. Now my computer freezes especially when i have my iphone plugged in

Regardless of what Intego claims, test to see if it works better without their software. If it does, then I'd submit a support request to them. Firewall software by the way has one serious weakness, and that unlike firewall hardware, the software can more easily be manipulated than those settings on a hardware firewall.

Just to note, there are currently no Mac OS X viruses in the wild. You are primarily preventing yourself from passing on viruses to PC users. Of course you can also do this by proactively only accepting e-mail attachments from people you know have no risk of having put viruses on their attachments in the first place.

When I try to delete the trash bin in iphoto, the program freezes?

When I try to delete the trash bin from iphoto the program freezes. The only way to get out is to hold the on/off button down shut the computer off. Can anyone tell me what to do to fix this?

Tiger installation freeze

Hi,
I bought a used ibook. I'm trying to upgrade to Tiger - during installation, the computer freezes. No mouse movement at all. I chose the erase disk option as I wanted a clean start. There was no data to backup.
I tried to repair disk - no repairs needed. I ran the Apple Hardware test - no issues. I went back to the original installation disks and started again -- installing OS X 10.2.4. I chose the erase disk option. Everything went perfectly - no issues at all.
So i tried Tiger again. Same - it gets to about 2% of checking the installation DVD then freezes.
I checked that the installation Disk was ok, by copying the whole thing to the hard drive (as suggested in Apple help documentation) Again no problem and still freezes.
I have enough hard disk space and RAM - and the RAM is the original RAM that came with the computer.
Am out of ideas - anyone got any?

IChat AV freezes entire computer

My husband's iChat crashes often and freezes the computer--he cannot force quit the application, the colored ball spins and spins and he must do a hard reset of his G4 Cube with lots of memory, running Tiger.
It crashes many of the times (but not every time) when he tries to do a video or an audio chat, There is no problem with written IMs.
Once in a while, he can hear me but his microphone shows him that it's not on and it won't go on, and of course, I cannot hear him.
Here is the log from this morning. I had him copy it immediately following his two consecutive freezes, one when he tried to AudioChat with me,(when I accepted, his machine froze) and one when I saw him back on line after that failed and I then tried to initiate an audio chat with him. When he accepted, he froze again. He emailed me this log.

I was trying to suggest all the likely causes based on my experience that were not

ruled out by the info you posted. I now understand that you are an experienced user who did not need to check some of my suggestions, but I did not know that from your initial post. I am just communicating here and trying to help.
Why would you assume the battery is bad...
I have four reasons, although I did not "assume the battery is bad". I only asked how long since it had been replaced.
(a) Because I did not know from your initial post that you were such an experienced user who could spot such problems.
(b) Because the Mac Cube is an old enough model to make a weak battery a possibility if it had not been replaced recently.
(c) Because the Performa PPC that I owned at the time the beautiful Cube was introduced

gave me strange problems (other than date and time) that required battery replacement to correct.
(d) Until your second post, I did not know that all other apps were working fine.
This is a log following a hard freeze (repeatable) caused by iChat/iSight, not following a kernel panic.
With that information, my first recommendation is

a Safe Boot.
Then, and after again doing any other required maintenance, Apple's Isolating issues in Mac OS X Technical Support Article may be of help in tracking down what needs to be reinstalled.

Ipod will not sync to itunes, just stops half way and freezes the computer

my ipod has suddenly stopped syncing to itunes half way through and freezes the computer. it is not the songs because they sync to my phone. how can i fix this?

Have you tried plugging the Nano into another available USB port or using another USB sync cable? Does it seem to be freeze when syncing the same track?
I assume iTunes is up to date (10.7 at the time of this writing).

Adobe Reader keeps on crashing and freezing my computer

I have Adobe reader 9.4, the latest version, on my computer but even after numerous reinstalls the software continues to cause problems by freezing my computer. I've thought about other problems like viruses or bugs that could be and explanation but I have run scans on my computer which have come up with nothing. My computer does not have that much software running on it and I have checked for issues with those programs but have come up with nothing and still believe Adobe Reader Is the cause.Any advice? Thank You!

Uninstall Reader 9.4 and try the latest Adobe Reader X (10.0).
If you still have problems, please state your operating system and version.

Old iphoto library from an old computer's hard drive doesn't open anymore

My old computer broke some time ago, but I got the hard drive saved with its iPhoto library. I used to be able to open the old iPhoto from the old computer's hard drive with my new computer connecting them, but now it says that the old iPhoto cannot be opened because I have to update to a newer version, but the only button I can press is 'quit'. So I don't know how to get a newer version of iPhoto to my old hard drive or how to get the pictures out of the old iPhoto. I have a separate iPhoto in my new computer.
When I press 'show content' of the old iPhoto, there are no pictures anywhere.
Please help, I have my old pictures there!

Petra, do you mean, you opened the old iPhoto application from the old computer on your new computer or did you open the iPhoto Library?
If you have a newer iPhoto version on your new computer, try to open your old iPhoto Library with the newer iPhoto version on your new Mac.
What was the old iPhoto version on the old Mac, and which version do you have now? And which version of MacOS X?
If you now have iPhoto 9.5.1 on your new computer, launch this version while holding down the options key (sometimes called alt key). This will bring up the library chooser panel. Select the old library on your old drive. iPhoto should offer to upgrade the library., unless your old library has been created by a very old iPhoto version.
If the old library had been created with iPhoto '08 or earlier, you need first to run the iPhoto Library Upgrader to prepare the library.

What are .frameworks, and why are they freezing my computer?? Help!

It seems as though every time I open an audio program (Garage Band mainly), a folder entitled CoreMIDIserver.framework pops up on my dock, bounces for a bit, and then proceeds to freeze my computer. I have to force quit it every time. Frameworks are located in System-Library-Frameworks. I looked them up online and it wasn't very helpful.
What can I do to fix this? Why does it keep popping up? Can I delete it, or would that potentially cause more problems?
I really really REALLY need to use pro audio and the fact that it's not working is killing me. Any help is much appreciated!

I had a couple of problems with other frameworks.
I used Pacifist to "Update Prebinding" for entire system.
It cleared up my framework console errors among other things.

DVD Player freezing my computer

I have one DVD that will not play in DVD Player. It starts playing and then freezes on the legal notice. And it doesn't just freeze the application, it freezes the whole computer, and my computer screen starts flashing to black for split seconds at regular intervals. All I can do is a hard shut down with the power button. There's nothing out of the ordinary with the disc that I can tell. It's brand new without any scratches. DVD Player plays other DVDs just fine.
Things I've tried:
Playing the DVD using VLC: No problem at all. Plays just fine.
Playing the DVD in DVD Player in a different user account: Still freezes the computer.
Playing the DVD on my family's PowerPC iMac G5: Plays in DVD Player without a hitch.
Playing the DVD on my brother's Intel MacBook Pro exactly like mine: Plays in DVD Player just fine.
Deleting DVD Player and CDInfo preferences & restarting: Still freezes my computer in DVD Player.
Now I'm out of ideas. Anyone have a clue as to what might be wrong?

One more thing I've tried: uninstalling and reinstalling DVD Player and repairing permissions. It didn't work. The DVD is still freezing my computer in DVD Player. Any ideas anyone?

It Takes DAYS to Move an iPhoto Library to a New Computer Over Firewire?

I'm using Firewire disk mode to move my 150GB iPhoto library to a new computer.
It does the first 575 MB super-duper fast, and then slows to a crawl, eventually claiming it needs over a day to copy.
Same happened when I tried direct ethernet cable.
What's going on, and is there any good way to move a large iPhoto library?
Right now I'm running a terminal and doing a cp -r to see if that is faster.

How much free space do you have on the destination computer? If it's not a whole lot more that the 150GB of the library that could be why it's slow. It may not have enough contingous free space to store the library so it has to fragment it for storing. Being a new Mac that shouldn't be a problem however.
Target Disk mode should be fast as it uses Firewire.

Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. It the problem persists make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If the new library does'nt have that problem then your original library is damaged. Post back if that's the case and we'll go from there.
