Iphoto to IDVD having trouble

I have 59 images on iphoto with ken burns and music, I click the share to IDVD and it does it act like it is going to it, I make my custom page with titles, but then where are the photos. I can drag them over to put them on the cover. I have done this about 3 times, and I can't remember, or I am not doing it right, but It won't work. Can someone Please tell me, in basic, short do this. do that, and maybe I can understand. I Know how to make the title page, I can put on music with pictures on the cover, I HAVE burned them before, but for some reason no luck today, WHAT am I doing wrong. I push preview, and all I get is the motion cover with That song that I selected. I am very frustrated right now. Any help would be appreciated. Judy

Judy,
Because I am not the brightest bulb... when something like that happens I usually go back to the beginning. I don't know if you made a slide show (it sounds like it..re the KB effect) or just sent them to DVD. If you did are you sure they were highlited. Did you make a album or just highlite.
I would suggest you make a album and send that to DVD. If that doesn't work make an album and go to DVD and import them (if you want) with the KB effect.
You only have 59 images so I would import them to i movie without the KB effect and play with them in imovie then send them to DVD. There are alot of choices if something isn't working. And like OT said...and I always take his advice...read some stuff for a few minutes and somehow the frustration dissapears!

  • Imported pics from old iphoto now am having trouble finding them on my HD..

    hi there,
so here is my situation. I previously was using iphoto (from '05) and had several thousand photos, but last month one day when i opened iPhoto 95% of the photos were gone from iPhoto (my computer kept shutting off, power supply problem), but I could still find all of my photos on my HD under my username/pictures.
in any case, i just got a new mac with iphoto '09 and my local tech friend managed to get all of my old photos onto my new computer by creating a new folder (yadda yadda yadda) and all of these photos now show up in the new iphoto, but i am having a few problems, so here goes...
    1. I like to view most of my photos in the 'photos' area of iphoto (as opposed to events, faces and so on) but it seems like with the older photos many show up in both an 'originals' folder and in a dated folder. i'm guessing this has something to do with photos that were edited or something of the sort. ideally, i'd just like to see one of everything. is this possible? also, of the 10K+ things moved onto the new iphoto were a number of movies uploaded from my camera. all of these show up in 'originals' wereas in the dated folders the show up as jpeg stills. why is this?
    2. my biggest/most annoying problem has to do with newly uploaded pictures. actually uploading them is fine (they all go into 'untitled events' folders as opposed to the 'originals' or dated folders like all the others) it's just that i'm having trouble accessing them on my HD once they're on iphoto. in short, i email a lot of photos using hotmail. when uploading i'll typically go to macintosh hd / jeremiahpOLD(everything from old computer) / pictures / iphoto libary 2 (created to put all old photos) and they're all right there by date. but all my new photos that i'm uploading, which i thought would show up in the same place separated by date, aren't showing up. if i search for them on my HD the location shows up as 'jeremiahpOLD / modified / 2010 / date. so, i guess my big question is, how do i get newly uploaded photos to show up in the 'pictures' folder as opposed to the 'modified' folder (where i can't access them unless searching for a particular on my HD or thru iphoto)?
sorry, for the rambling. i'm just trying to figure this all out at once...it's very different from my old iphoto!
    thanks in advance,
    Jeremiah

iPhoto changed the way we access photos with iPhoto 7 (08) when the library folder became a package. Using the methods Larry linked you to will provide you with access to your photos for use outside of iPhoto. Another version of Terence Devlin's treatise with screenshots is shown below. The following is from one of Terence Devlin’s posts on file access for use outside of iPhoto. It’s the definitive treatise on the subject.
Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Accessing the iPhoto Library Folder directly has never been supported in any version of iPhoto.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For Users of 10.5 and later
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
For users of 10.4 and later ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
All of the above are a: faster and b: Safer than rooting around in the old Library Folder.

  • Idvd having trouble with QT movie

    Hi everybody,
So I've exported my FCP 6 project using : Quicktime movie
    Setting: Current Settings
    Include: Audio & Video
Make movie self contained is checked
It plays fine in QT, there is plenty of space on my G5, but idvd for some reason is playing the movie all jerky. Any ideas?
    Thanks for any help!
    Sue

Suggestion: Try again but this time uncheck self-contained to see if this helps.
Quick question ... What is the source of your original video?
Open the file/s within QuickTime Player and do a WINDOW > SHOW MOVIE INSPECTOR
Tell us what video and audio formats are shown.

    Hey William Dofflemyer,
Thanks for the question. I understand you would like to move some photos in your iPhoto library to free up space. The following article may help you with that:
iPhoto '11: Move your iPhoto library to a new location

Also, I understand you have some questions about iDVD. The following video may provide more information:

  • Having trouble importing select pictures from a cd to my iphoto library

I am having trouble importing (and viewing) my vacation photos from a cd to my iphoto library. Some of the photos I can view in finder, but when i click on the rest, I get a message that says "Item xxxx.jpg is used by mac os x and cannot be opened". When I tried to import the photos to my library... the ones I could view imported no problem, the ones I couldn't view will not import and I get a message saying "unreadable files: the following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)". I am just sick that I cannot find these photos!!! =( especially since I had them on iphoto before I cleaned out my computer (so I've had them in my library before). Any ideas? I am in desperate need of help! =(
P.S. When I try to move the pictures to my desktop, I get a notice that says, "you may need to enter the name and pasword for the administrator on this computer to change the item named xxxx.jpg"... when I click continue, another message pops up and says, "the item xxx.jpg contains one or more busy items that cannot be changed"

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What do you have set in the System/CDs and DVDs preferences to do when a disk is inserted? If the option is not set to the Finder do so and see if that will make any difference.
Otherwise boot into Safe Mode and see if you can copy the files from the CD to a folder on the Desktop. Boot back into your normal account and see if you can import. Or import while still in the Safe Mode.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Having trouble with iphoto on my laptop and desk top computers.  On laptop will not let me print full image and having trouble getting correct rotation to print
On desk top printing too dark and cannot get correct rotation there either, seems like the problem just started recently

    Ronleedek-
What App are you using with the microphone?  I've used Skype, which has a "test call" feature to check your microphone.
There is a good chance your microphone is defective, possibly disconnected inside the iPad.  If an Apple Store Genius can not fix it, you may get a new iPad on the spot.

  • E-Mailing Photos from iPhoto - Having trouble with resolution

I am having trouble with emailing pictures from i-photo. When I email pictures as attachments they end up being low resolution versions and the receiver can not print them. I can not figure out what sort of setting I must have set. Please help.

    MMVP
Welcome to the Apple user assistance forums
1 - how are you selecting and attaching the photos?
2 - what is the resolution of the photos in iPhoto?
3 - if you are using the iPhoto e-mail capability (recommended) you select a photo(s) and click mail - there you can choose actual, large, medium or small
4 - this creates an e-mail message in the e-mail client of your choice (iPhoto preferences) - if you are using Apple mail in the lower right hand corner under the e-mail there is a menu where you can set Actual, large, medium or small
Be sure that both selections are set the way you want them - if either is se tto small you will send a small (low resolutin) photo

  • I am having trouble with iPhoto-it won't launch.

am having trouble with iPhoto-it won't launch and leaves a blank white screen box and spinning wheel of death-if I re-install software-will I lose all photos and faces settings? Any ideas-this is a Mac Pro and Xserve school system.
It seemed to stem from when I was transferring some movie footage from an HD camcorder to iMovie.
This is a school system and I'm worried I may lose many photos and face recognition data.
    Phil

    1. The library is separate from the application, so re-installing shouldn't cause an issue with the actual photos. But it would be foolhardy in the extreme to do anything without first backing up.
    2. Often these issues are caused by a damaged Library, so reinstalling doesn't change much.
    FWIW
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
    Alternative approach:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

i am having trouble opening iphoto as it keeps showing the loading sign. I am using os x 10.6.8 and my iphoto version is 9.2.3. Please help

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I am having trouble moving files from iPhoto to a thumb drive.  Sometimes I can move 20 photos next time I can only move 2 photos or 0---this is during the same session.  I also have trouble downloading photos to the internet.  Can someone please help?

I am having trouble moving files from iphoto to a thumb drive.  During the same session sometime I can move 10 photos at a time, the next time I can only move one photo and sometime no photos will move.  I also have trouble downloading photos to the internet.  I was using a MacBook Pro and had no problems like this.  I then upgraded to the MacBook Pro with Retina Vision and this is the computer I am having problems with.  Can anyone please give me a suggestion in how to fix this problem. THANK YOU.

iPhoto problems should be posted in their forums.
I also have trouble downloading photos to the internet.
Needs clarification.  You upload from your computer to the internet & download from a website/internet to your computer.  So which are you trying to do?  Either way, sounds like a browser issue.  You need to post in the forum of whichever browser you are using.

  • Having trouble exporting photos from iPhoto to external drive.

I am having trouble copying files to my external drive.  It is a shared external drive connected through my wireless router.  I can copy some photo's to the externaldrive folder and they transfer no problem and some of the photo's from the same folder appear to be transfering but as soon as the copying window goes away so does the photo's from the folder I was putting them to.  New to apple so I am still learning the in's and out's and I am sure it's probably something easy.  Any help would be appreciated.  The external drive I was using on a PC before and the Mac seems to see most everything so not sure if that matters or not.  Pic and video's came from same camera on the same day.

is there anyway to transfer direct to the hard-drive?
What does that mean? Do you mean have your Library on an external drive? Yes, that's easy.
I have a network HDD connected to my router
    Two issues here.
    1. That NAS is not an appropriate disk for an  iPhoto Library -  iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos. Later versions simply won't allow the Library on such devices.
    2. Router? Wireless connection?  A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
    To move an  iPhoto Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
