Iphoto toolbar offscreen

The toolbar and some photos are above the screen and I am unable to drag it down. It works fine on my user screen ,but not on another.

This is an OS issue, and not specific to any version of iPhoto. Open iPhoto in the affected user account. Select "Displays" in the System Preferences and temporarily reset the screen resolution. Return the screen resolution to the previous setting and close the System Preferences.

  • Can't print from Iphoto 7.1.2

When I select a photo and try to print (from file/print) I get an error message:
"No available themes. There are no themes located. Until at least one theme has been installed this feature will be unavailable".
When I try to print from the icon on the iphoto toolbar it just blinks when I click on it and I don't even get the error message.
    I have tried the following:
    Deleted and trashed my user/library/preferences/iphotoplist.
Trashed my Canon Pixma ip4000 printer application software and reinstalled the latest Canon OS X software and driver.
Downloaded Iphoto 7.1.2 from Apple and reinstalled - ( I did not not trash the old iphoto application because I was worried about losing my library)
Downloaded ilife support 8.2 from Apple and installed.
I reran my permissions on Apple Disk Utility
I recently downloaded and installed iphoto Library manager because I thought it looked pretty neat. I looked all thru it and it doesn't seem to have any features that deal with printing.
I recently upgraded from a G4 Mirrordoor to a G5. I transferred all the files from the old computer to the new via my router and file sharing in the target mode. Everything else seems to work fine. My printer works fine on all other applications
I am just about out of gas.
    Can you suggest something?
    Thanks,
    Phil

    Old Toad:
I still am having problems printing. I spoke way too soon.
When I was using iphoto 06 I had no problems. After upgrading to iphoto 08, I found I can't print in the contact mode. I can print single pic's but the minute I try to do more then that it totally screws up.
I did everything you suggested (two times!). Trashed everything I could find with Iphoto on it. Very carefully reloaded 08 from my 08 disc and upgraded to 7.1.2. I am now able to print. Yea!
Is there some way I can send you an Email with some screen shot attachments?
I can go thru a long explanation of my problem but if I could attach some screen shots to an Email I think you could maybe tell me whats wrong.
I tried to dump the whole iphoto 08 program and go back to 06 but it wouldn't let me because my 06 library is now all screwed up with 08. What a mistake "upgrading" to 08).
I hate to bother you with this mess but I am just dead in the water.
Anyway, if you can bear with me... heres my sad story.
    1. I load iphoto 08 and select 12 JPG photos to print. ( I have a need to print 8, 10 or 12 photos on a single page).
    2. I click on print and the print screen drops down. I only have five themes to select from (Standard, Contact Sheet, Simple Border, Simple Mat and Double Mat). I select Contact Sheet. The rest of the setup screen shows details about my Canon ip4000 printer, photo paper and US letter.
    3. I click on Customize and select Settings to remove some unneeded titles from my pic's. I then select 3 columns to give me all 12 photos on a single page. On the same screen I then click on Print Settings and a box pops up so I can select select paper size. I use Credit Card 2.13 x 3.39 borderless. This what I used before under iphoto 06 and it worked fine. I click OK and at this point everything looks fine on the screen. I am ready to print.
    4. In the tool bar, I click print. A print bar drops down and I click on Preview just to take a look. At that point the whole screen locks up and I get a double box - one overlaying the other. The lower box says " Processing page 1". The second box is blank with the word OK in Apple pulsating blue.
    5. If I click the OK (still in Preview mode) I get some garbage stating " Preview of Untitled .pdf (page 1)" and I am frozen dead.
    6. If you go back to step 4 and I just skip the Preview step and just click on print I get the double box routine again and If I click on the OK then thats what iphoto prints --- a white box with the word OK in blue.
    7. I tried this exact same approach on my other G4 with Tiger, iphoto 08 and a HP Deskjet 3650 printer. With exception of a few different words because of the Canon vs. HP printer software I got the same result.
As I said, I could show you all of this with some screen shots but I guess by now you have got the idea. I had none of these problems with iphoto 06! A real waste of $75.
I am so **** frustrated as I have spent many hours trying to figure this thing out. I have deleted and reloaded many times. I have read and reread the so called Help menus.
My gut feeling is that iphoto does not get along with Preview. At first I thought it was Canon software ( which I reloaded from their website) but the same thing happened with HP software. Or maybe iphoto 08 is just a piece of crap like so many Apple users are posting.
Am I the only nut with this problem with 08?.
I really appreciate your wading thru all of this and I sure would like some advice. Especially how to get back to iphoto 06 and just forget about 08.
At this point, I don't think iphoto 08 is ever going to work.
    Thanks again,
    Phil

  • Organizing pictures in IPhoto

If I have uploaded photos from multiple CDs and cameras into the same album, i.e. "ireland 2007," how do I organize them so that the same photos are together? My recent family vaccation produced lots of pictures on multiple cameras and I would like to get them all grouped by each place we took pictures without having to keep highlighting and dragging. Help??

    Hi.
With the PC you were used to file browsing, in which you had to deal with the files directly. The whole philosophy of iPhoto is that you never touch the files and folders in the library folder. Once you import your photos into iPhoto, you manipulate them through the application.
When you make Albums in iPhoto, you select the photos you want from the iPhoto window and create the Albums. There's no going into the folder structure at all.
I love Photoshop Elements. It will work seamlessly with iPhoto, as part of a larger workflow. In iPhoto's Preferences, see where it says Edit photos in... You choose Other, then navigate to Photoshop Elements in your Applications folder. Once done, you can select up to 4 thumbnails in the iPhoto window, double-click, and they will open in Elements for editing. To save your edits, do a Save in Elements, and the edited version will be written to your iPhoto Library. Do not "Save As" with a different file name or location, because those changes will not be recognized by the iPhoto database. If Elements creates a layered .psd file you can flatten, then save the jpeg. Or to keep the layers, Save As to a location OUTside the iPhoto Library folder (the desktop is convenient) then use iPhoto to import that file to the library as a new original.
You can also right-click (Control-click) a thumbnail and choose how you want to edit it. You can choose among several iPhoto edit modes, or choose your external editor (Elements). If you click on the iPhoto Full-Screen Edit Mode icon (the box with the arrows pointing outward) in the lower iPhoto toolbar, then the photo opens for editing in iPhoto. This is useful for quick cropping or red-eye fix, for example.
I recommend that you do not try to use Adobe Bridge (or any other file browser) to browse the iPhoto Library folder. If you do, you are accessing the photos directly from their folders. Any changes you make to the photos will not be recognized by the database, and you can damage your library. Think of iPhoto as a much superior substitute for Bridge. Some people delete it from their Macs. I do keep some image files outside of my iPhoto library for digital scrapbooking. I use Bridge to browse those files.
When you edit a photo in your library, iPhoto keeps the Original and saves your edits in its Modified version. You can always revert to the original if you wish to delete your edits. Each photo in your library exists only once inside the library folder structure (in up to 3 versions: Original, Modified, and thumbnail). Albums are virtual structures that exist only in the iPhoto database file. That is, placing a photo in an album does not duplicate the file on your hard drive. This allows you to place a photo in one album, 100, or none, with no duplication. When you edit a photo, the Modified version will appear in every instance of the photo in your library. If you wish to have one version in one album, and a different edited version in another album, you can create a Duplicate in your library and edit the duplicate, resulting in 2 separate, unlinked sets of that photo in your library.
Apple has created a set of multimedia tutorials that can help you get started with iPhoto and the other apps in the iLife suite. I found them helpful and easy to understand. For the iPhoto tutorial, start here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/iphoto/

  • IPhoto refuses to open

I've tried everything else, so now I'm coming here.
One day, with no apparent cause (no new downloads, no system changes, no updates) iPhoto stopped opening.  The icon is still there at the bottom of my screen.  I click on it, it bounces as if it's working, and the iPhoto toolbar appears at the top of the screen.
However, the iPhoto screen itself never appears and all the items in the toolbar are greyed out (unselectable).  Has anybody else run into this problem?
Potentially related:  I've been doing updates on my wife's macbook air, which included doing an update to her iPhoto (which works fine).  In the app store, under iPhoto, it gives her the option to update.  When I go to the app store on my computer, it gives me the option to purchase iPhoto for $14.99.  Both of us are using the iPhoto that came with our respective computers.  Could this be the culprit?  The fact that apple doesn't seem to recognize that I do, in fact, own this software?
    Thank you all, in advance.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • IPhoto won't open, can't access external hard drive

I have recently had to re-install my OSX Tiger software and while troubleshooting I unplugged my external LaCie harddrive (with my iPhoto, iTunes, and iMovie files). Now that I have re-installed my OS, I can't open iPhoto at all, though I can see that the photos are still on the external drive. I dragged my iTunes music folder to my iTunes library and this seemed to do the trick. However, I can't open iPhoto at all, and I am hesitant to start moving iPhoto stuff around b/c I know you should only access photos directly from iPhoto.
    Any suggestions?

I tried holding down the option key and it opened normally. When I say "normally" I mean what it has been doing recently which is opening the iPhoto toolbar, but nothing on the rest of the screen. If I try to open an image by navigating to it through the external drive in finder it opens in preview.
I did an arhive and install and saved my preferences and settings. Do you think I need to also re-install iLife?
    Thanks-

  • How do I turn back on my thumbnails in Iphoto

I have lost the Thumbnail option under View in the Iphoto toolbar. It is there, but I cannot click on any of its options, such as Always show, rows, etc . So now when I click on an event, it always goes to full screen with an editing option to see the thumbnails above the picture. I don't want this, I want all of the thumbnails to show larger like they used to! I have tried changing preferences and it makes no difference. I simple can't do anything with the thumbnails.

  • How do I transfer files/folders to an external hard drive without "dragging and dropping"?

Hi, I'm having a lot of trouble trying to transfer folders of pictures and individual pictures to my external hard drive (which God forbid isn't an Apple product). I attempted to drag and drop, which usually works. I have also attempted to find an option in any drop down menu which will allow me to import/transfer/etc. the photos from my Macbook to the external hard drive. This is maddening because the hard drive was immediately compatible and I can see everything that's on it already, I just can't really do anything with the content going either way. Is it because I need to compress things? Something like that? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    William

  • Export to Google Apps mail vs Gmail?

I think there is a plug in to export iPhoto photos to Gmail, right? I'm consider Google Apps Premium mail - anyone know if there is a similar plug in or if the Export to Gmail will work for that? Or, if not, I can drag and drop to Google Apps mail webmail?
I suppose I could just put it in Mac Mail and IMAP it so I can still do export to mail, but still would love to know if anyone knows the answer to the question.
    Thx!

You can set up the Apple Mail application to use GMail and the all you have to do is select the photos you want to email and click on the Email button in the lower iPhoto toolbar.
Unless Google apps mail can be used as a POP or IMAP account you'll have to export the photos to the desktop and add them to the email via the browser.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Freeze during editing

When I edit in full screen, I lose the ability to open up the bottom "toolbar" by dragging the cursor to the bottom of the screen.
When this happens I have to hit the escape button to get back to the iPhoto library.
When I go back to editing the photo, none of the changes (edits) are saved.
Any idea what could be causing this issue. It happens quite a bit.
    Thanks in advance.

Do you mean the iPhoto toolbar? If so, try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
When I go back to editing the photo, none of the changes (edits) are saved.
They won’t be saved until you click on Done or the Next arrow.

  • How to have rotating desktop images?

In 10.2.8, I could set my preferences to use images from an iPhoto album as desktop backgrounds that changed on each login. Now that I have upgraded (10.4.3), the "Change picture" command is greyed out when I have any iPhoto album selected.
I am still able to set iPhoto images as backgrounds, but it will no longer allow them to rotate; I have to manually change them in preferences.
Is there a way around this? Thanks.

    Hi luneluxe,
Things have changed a little in the new version.
Now the only album that will rotate photos is the one you choose WITHIN iPhoto by selecting the Album and then hitting the Desktop icon in the iPhoto toolbar.
When System Preferences open after doing this, you will see you can now check the box to have a random image at intervals.

Question: How can I change the music when I am looking at photos with FrontRow?
Where do I put my movies if I want to see them in a 'Videos' section of frontrow?
I have some music videos NOT from iTunes, how do I put them in the 'Music Videos' section of 'Videos' in FrontRow??
    ahhhh.
    iPod mini ; iPod shuffle ; iMac G3 DV+ ; eMac 1GHz ; MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Mark,
For changing the music for viewing slideshows:
    1. Open iPhoto.
    2. Click on the Library (or any other album), then click the Play button in the iPhoto toolbar.
    3. Select the Music tab, select the song you want to play, then click Save Settings.
    4. Exit iPhoto before going back to FrontRow -- I've found it freaks out iPhoto if you leave it open when using FrontRow.
    For Videos:
    1. You can add them to your iTunes Library from within iTunes, or
    2. Any movies placed in the Movies folder within your Home folder will appear under the Movies section in FrontRow.
