Iphoto transporting to dvd

I am trying to transport my iphoto pics and ken burns plus music to dvd. it plays nice in iphoto but will not transport. only the first two tracks play (album selected) photos look good and kb looks fine . . . but no music after two tracks. i should mention that these two tracks have been edited. but first track only reflects part of the edit. should i make his dvd in idvd and no import? help! frustrating!

This is becoming an all too common problem experienced by many including me.
To find all the responses that already exist, go back to the "Editing & Organizing" section (one step back from where you are reading this) and do a search for "song" In this folder.
You will find many answers to your question. Unfortunately, there's no fix for the problem as of now, only a multitude of work arounds.

  • Putting an iPhoto slideshow on DVD with Toast

    Hello
I have a LaCie DVD burner, bought from the Apple shop in London with Toast Titanium 6. I want to save an iPhoto slideshow to DVD. Problem is, every time I try to drag a song from the Finder to Toast, I get the message that I do not have a valid Jam license.
Can anyone please explain this to me? I am wondering if the Apple shop may have sold me the wrong product for my iBook!
    Thanks...

PS. I can now get both slide-show and music on the DVD but can't play them simulteneously.
Thanks to anyone who can advise..

  • I want to compress or zip a photo album in iPhoto to a dvd cd

i want to compress or zip a photo album in iPhoto to a dvd cd

Why do you want to zip it? and what exactly is it? If your photos are JPEGs then they are very compressed and zipping is not going to save much if any space - it might increase the size even
If is is an iPhoto album of photos then open the album in iPhoto and select all - export to a desktop folder (see Exporting From iPhoto for options) and select the folder in the finder and right click - either burn to disk or compress and then burn to disk
If it is a photo book then
Before  preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF  - right click on it and either burn to disk or compress and then burn the compressed file to disk

  • How do you burn an iPhoto slideshow onto dvd?

I am trying to burn an iPhoto slideshow onto DVD - any tips? Thanks!

If you want to create a video DVD that will play on a set top DVD player to your TV read the following:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • Burn iphoto album to dvd

I successfully burned an album of photos that could be read by Windows (export to folder, burn folder). I'm not having any luck burning the same album directly from iPhoto.
The DVD appears on my desktop as "Untitled DVD." I select the album name in iPhoto and use the "Burn" function in "Share" ... and nothing happens. (I was expecting a window to open up asking about the target.)

Repair permissions with Disk Utility. If that doesn't help:
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7+: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Backing up iPhoto Library to DVDs

    Hello,
I'm planning to back up all my files and reinstall Leopard. However, I'm a little worried about backing up my iPhoto library (~22 GB). I don't have an external hard drive so burning to disc is the only way.
I want to retain _all my events and both original and modified photos_. Which method is right for me: using iPhoto's built-in Burn feature or manually copying sections of the iPhoto Library to DVD?
    Thanks!

    Chris:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Be sure you don't select much more than 4GB of photos as reported by iPhoto in the Information pane at the bottom of the left window in iPhoto to burn because iPhoto adds a lot of overhead, i.e. the modified and thumbnail files, and various database files that can bloat each burn. You don't want to get into the burn and get the not enough space message. You can see this
Since all of the disks that get created have the same disk name, keep a written record of the contents of each disk and number the disks with a pen so it will be easier to locate what you need.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Backing up iPhoto Library to DVD: too big

I want to back up my iPhoto library to DVD so I can have an "off-site" copy. However it is 17GB, and won't fit on one DVD. What's the best way to back up to multiple DVD's? I do have Toast 8, if that's the best way.
    Thanks!

Use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to create a 20GB disk image, copy the entire library to it, compress it, and then use this tool to segment the image. You need all the segments to recover anything.

  • How do you burn iphoto slideshow to DVD?

How do you burn iPhoto slideshow to DVD?  I exported to Quick Time & burned as movie but won't play on DVD player.

If you want it to play on a domestic DVD player then the disk must be created in iDVD. The format of such a disk is quite specific and iDVD is the app the makes these formats.
So, Share -> Send to iDVD

  • Back up large iPhoto file to DVD

I want to back up a 25 gig iPhoto library to DVD's to store off site. There is no breakdown into folders to burn individually. Any idea how to burn this large file onto multiple DVD's?

To add to Terence's suggestion make sure the total size of photos selected, probably best done by Events, is only about 4 GB. That's because the acutal burned size will be larger due to the overhead of modified, thumbnail and database files. If you select much more than 4 GB as determined by iPhoto you'll get part way thru the process and get the not enought room message.
How do I burn a slidshow from iPhoto to a DVD?

Export the slideshow from iPhoto, that makes a movie of it.
Do you want to use this DVD in a domestic DVD player? If so, then the disk will have to be 'authored' to make it the correct form for that. If you have iDVD then that's the app you use. However, iDVD is no longer developed or distributed by Apple. You may be able to get it on an old iLIfe install disk.

    Burn: http://macupdate.com/app/mac/21992/burn

But there are lots of others too. Search on the App Store or MacUpdate

  • IPhoto slideshow to DVD for TV and PC viewing

I am creating a slideshow that needs to be able to be played on a DVD with unknow TV and a PC with a projector. Will not know exactly which one. The slideshow is simple (200 images estimated), would like to have Ken Burns effect if possible.
I also have Keynote available if it would be a better appliciaont. What is the best workflow to produce a reliable, high quality product? Thanks in advance.
    Mark

The tip refers to the file "Library6.iPhoto" that is in the iPhoto Library folder. That's the file that often gets damaged or corrupted and makes iPhoto think there are no photos in the library or that the files are missing but the thumbnails are there. I just select it and type Command-D to make a copy of it which ends up as "Library6 copy 1.iPhoto". When I need to backup again I delete that file and make another copy of it.
For protection of HD problems and really losing your files I suggest an external Firewire HD. An 80G drive is not that expensive and can hold your iPhoto Library folder and, in general, your entire User folder. That folder contains all of your important, non-replaceable files. The system and applications can be replace
That being said DVDs can be used with iPhoto's Share->Burn Disk menu option to burn multiple rolls to disk in the iPhoto format. This will allow you to mount that disk in iPhoto like this to copy back those rolls into a new library is that were necessary. As you get a number of new rolls you can burn another disk. Or use a CD and burn fewer rolls as they are added. That preserves the keywords, albums they were in, comments, etc. You can also burn slideshows.
The external HD is the easiest and quickest way. By backing up the entire iPhoto Library folder (i.e. copying it to the external HD and then keeping it current with a backup program like Synk, you can avoid most any catastrophic crash on your HD. I don't have my external drive running all the time. I only turn it on and mount it when I have some backups to perform.

  • How to burn albums in iPhoto with external DVD drive?

I have the new iMac which doesn't contain a DVD drive... so I bought an external DVD drive and I am trying to burn albums from iPhoto but in the "share" option, the "burn to disc" option doesn't come up. It's as if iPhoto doesn't recognize a DVD drive available, but it is. Anyone know a fix to this? Thank you!

open the album and select all - export to a desktop folder (see the user tip on exporting for the various options available) and then in the finder right click on that folder and burn to disk

  • Importing iPhoto Created CD/DVD

    Hi all,
Recently my Powerbook crashed (thanks filevault), although I had made a DVD of my entire iPhoto library as a backup.
I'm the proud new owner of a new Mac Pro, and I'd like to import that DVD albums and all into my iPhoto library.
I realize that the easiest solution would be to do just drag the contents of the DVD into my iPhoto directory on the hard disk. However, there may be a few other discs hanging out there with photos burned by iPhoto that I may also like to import without having to resort albums, etc.
One thing I spend a lot of time doing is getting pretty granular with my album organization. I have found it's easiest to organize photos at the time of import, so I have a ton of individual albums within folders.
It seems to me that this operation should be very simple - just drag the album folders within iPhoto from the disc to the iPhoto library icon. While this does accomplish the import, all of the album settings are gone. A folder with 15 albums does not appear in the library, but the 100+ photos do - unorganized.
Does iPhoto allow one to simply drag a DVD with its hierarchy into the library, or do you have to rebuild everything?
    Mac Pro 3.0ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Only if you burned your iPhoto Library folder to the DVD disc via the Finder. If you did a Share->Burn in iPhoto then what you need to do is create a new library, open it and insert the DVD disk in your optical drive.
The burned library will show us in iPhoto like this. Then all you need to do is drag the disk icon onto your library icon to import the files into the new library. If this is how you created the disk then what I've described will let you import your photos into the new library and keep albums, rolls, keywords and comments intact.
