IPhoto Tray not available on an Intel iMac 24" running OS 10.5.1

I have two computers in house. One is a PPC iMac 17" running OS 10.5.1 and iPhoto 5.0.4. With this computer I can print a 4 x 6 photo on an HP Photosmart C6180 all in one printer using iPhoto.
My other computer is an Intel iMac 24" running OS 10.5.1 and iPhoto 7.1.1. On this computer I cannot print a 4 x 6 photo on the same printer. The reason I cannot is that Paper Tray selection option does not function on this computer. One is supposed to click on the box showing "iPhoto" and select the option " Paper Type/Quality" Which should then reveal the options of "MainTray" and "Photo Tray.
Clicking on "Paper Type?Quality" does make the Option appear, the selection box remains on iPhoto.
This problem can only be solved either by Apple or HP. I have e-mailed HP numerous time but only after extensive investigations on my part have I finally really understood the problem.

Had you done a search in this forum for either "Paper Tray" or "HP Photoshmart"? This has been discussed many times previously and there may have been a solution that someone has come across.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Why iPhoto is not available after OS X recovery?

I have Mac OSX Mountain Lion installed in my brand new MacBook Pro (mid 2012) and it comes with iPhoto. After I recover my system using Recovery from Internet, iPhoto is not available.
What can I do to get it back without paying 14.99 in Mac App Store?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running a program at the instance of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait about a minute. Then paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for your password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator rights.
The test may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. There wiil be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress until it's done. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." That's because the forum software falsely identifies something in the post as a violation of the terms of use. If that happens, please post the results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • System 'CE3' is not available. Make sure it is running properly.

    hi,
im in CE 7.1 EHP 1. when im trayin to assig a Role to a new task in my process Model i get the error http 502. so i went to  Process Instance Tab where i got the error System 'CE3' is not available. Make sure it is running properly.

    any Idea?
    Thanks.

    Hi Rodrigo,
The HTTP error code 502 is 'Bad gateway'. I also experienced this once or twice when I configured a certain proxy (or proxy script) that wasn't able to resolve that host. Try bypassing the proxy or using a special proxy for your host CE3 in the Proxy Settings of your NWDS.

  • Help! iPhoto library not available to other Apple applications

My iPhoto library is not available for browsing in other Apple applications like iMovie, Mail or even Desktop and Screen Saver. I've rebuilt the iPhoto database, fixed permissions, tried to do over starting with a clean plate and importing the database and nothing seems to work. The iPhoto library is unavailable to other Apple applications that can make use of it.
Any ideas as to how I can fix this problem? FWIW, iTunes is available in other Apple applications and iPhoto seems to work just fine as a stand alone application it just doesn't want to play with the other children anymore.
    Thanks.

    Eric
Sharing between applicationns is enabled by a file in the iPhoto Library Folder called the Albumdata.xml file.
First step: Remove this file and restart iPhoto. This will force iPhoto to rebuild the files. Then relaunch the other apps, see if they see can see iPhoto.
If not, do you have any non-ascii characters in your titles or keywords - bascaly anything that's not 0-9 or a - z.
If that's not the issue, have a look at this thread

especially Dave E's discovery about malformed strings in the albumData file.

  • Iphoto library not available as screensaver

I want my computer to show my pictures from the iPhoto library, as the screensaver. I always had that but now in Mountain Lion the iPhoto library is not available as an option to select. I do have the possibility to select my PhotoBooth picture, but I want my iPhoto Library. Anyone have the same issue and, more importatn, does anyone know how to fix this?

you can choose to use your iphoto library pics by going into system prefs/desktop & screensaver
click on screensaver and make sure you choose a screen saver option that uses pictures (such as floating, snapshots, etc)
now next to source option hit the drop down and your iphoto library should be an option to choose
once you choose iphoto library it will further give you options to use specific event pics etc.

I update to OS X and now iPhoto is not available

In what  way is iPhoto not available? Does it show as crossed out?
Then you are running an iPhoto version that needs updating or upgrading for compatibility with MAvericks.
Depending on your previous version you need to buy an upgrade or can update for free from the appStore. See Old Toad's list of compatible versions at this link:

  • Snow Leopard will not install on 2008 Intel iMac

Trying to install a purchsed copy of Snow Leopard onto an Intel iMac (2008 model). System previously on system was 10.4.11. Started the first Upgrade attempt and the upgrade stopped at 33 minutes remaining - would not progress any further.
Force power down and tried again selecting Upgrade. This time it got to 16 minutes and never went further.
Next attempt I reformatted the drive, ran Disk Utility to Repair Disk (no problems detected). The ran a full install. Stops at 16 minutes.
Tried again - Partitioned drive, erased drive, tested drive, ran installer - 15 minutes - no further.
No error messages - nothing - it just sits there.
Reset PRAM, reset SMU - same thing after another attempt.
This system was running fine under 10.4.11. We just wanted to upgrade it to 10.6 for application compatibility requirements (10.5 or higher required to run latest version of application).
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Next I'd run the AHT (Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test) - if that picks up any hardware issue then you don't need to waste any more time troubleshooting. (Run the long test in the AHT, maybe loop it overnight if you're not in a hurry)
After that I'd boot the machine in target disk mode (How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode) and boot the other machine to the install disk - you should then be able to install to the first iMacs HD, it'll show up with a firewire symbol when you "select you destination".
If still having trouble, then I'd go into disk utilty, erase tab, options and select the "zero out data"" option. Then click the erase button. This will write to every byte on the HD, so an additional test of the integrity.

  • DVD  +RW (not finalized) will not play on an Intel iMac

Stand alone DVD recorder burnt a +RW disc. This machine never finalizes rewritable discs, yet the DVD can be played on all players I can get my hands on. Only the Intel iMac refuses to play it back because it identifies an empty disc.
    Any idea why?

The only other thing I can think of, is have you made sure there are no Firmware Updates from either Apple or Matshita for your Optical Drive.
Some of Apples Optical Drives were not a problem reading and writing different Formats of DVD, but in some of the Newer Optical Drives they were limited as to ther eability because of Firmware restrictions on some of the Newer Optical Drives. It seams to me that these were done because of copyrite laws and Apple not wanting to get involved in this and thus placed restrictions on the Drives ability.
But that shouldn't affect your particular problem, My guess is the copys you are making. Different Software on different machines have several choices that can limit your ability to play them because of settings. Some have settings that make copies that are PC only, Mac only or PC and Mac Compatible.

  • How can i run OS 9 (classic) on an intel IMAC G5 running Leopard 10.5.6

    Hi,
I run a program that requires classic, i have been running a G4 laptop on the side of my imac, but i would really like to just use my iMac as a 'one does it all' scenario. Does anyone know how i can run the Classic mode as a background to my Leopard system, ie in conjunction?
    many thanks.
    Keith

If you have an Intel iMac, you can't use Classic.
If you heve a G5 iMac, you have to install 10.4.11 or earlier on a Firewire external hard drive, or a separate partition after partitioning your hard drive for both 10.5 and 10.4.11. This article tells you if you have a G5 versus an Intel iMac:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301724
Partitioning is described here, and will erase the entire contents of your hard drive:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61301
You will also need to use the original iMac G5 install and restore discs to install Mac OS 9 on your 10.4.11 hard drive/partition following these directions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61802
See my FAQ* on possible alternative Mac OS X compatible titles for your Mac OS 9 applications:

  • All Intel iMac are running 10.4.4 out of the box, right?

I got my iMac about a couple weeks ago. Since the Intel iMac was released on the same day that the 10.4.4 update came out, I assume all the new Intel iMacs already have that update installed. Am I correct in assuming that?

    Hi Mr. Large
Click on the apple in your menu bar and then click on "About This Mac". This will tell you what version of Mac OS X you are running. If you want to find out more about your Mac's hardware and software you can click on "More Info…". This will open the utility System Profiler (this is to be found in your Utilities folder). It's worth browsing this to see what you have got.

  • External iSight not working on my intel iMac

I have a few reasons to want to use my external iSight instead of the built-in, sometimes using both at the same time. A few months ago I had tested it and it worked flawlessly and I could even write a small quartzcomposer application that used both.

When I plug it in, the light turns on for one second then turns off and the mac does not recognize the extra camera.
    Any tips?
