Iphoto trouble and library trouble.....plez plez help

Ok here goes I have all my photos stored on an external harddrive. The other day while i was viewing my pictures my external got unplugged and all the pictures suddely turned grey. They continued to do this even when i restarted iphoto and plugged my harddrive back in. Then i decided to import all the pictured again from my external harddrive and somehow it added them all to my labtop making the program slow. So i then just went into iphoto and hit select all and then clicked delete. The photos are still safe on the external. My question is is that i'm trying to make a new library because when the program can't find an iphoto library it asks me to locate it which i want it to do. Its like there is a "hidden" library on my labtop that i can't find. PLez help this is driving me crazy. If you don't understand i'll clarify......

Great! I'm glad the worst didn't happen. One thing you can do to check your library is to move the size slider all the way to the right, then click the down arrow to scroll through your photos. Chances are that if you can see your photos at their largest size, then the database is fine. You can also do some spot checking - double click on some photos to see if they open in edit mode. If so, then iPhoto has not lost the links to your photos.
If you start noticing strange behavior you can do the auto database rebuild. Launch iPhoto while holding Option and Command. Check the first 3 options in the dialog box, then click Rebuild. It can take a while if you have a lot of photos. For more information on the rebuild, read this Apple article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107947

  • IPhoto 6 and Library Mangagment

Well, I just got my copy of iLife '06 at the Apple store but I am waiting to install it until I know weather iPhoto Buddy or Library Manager will work with it.
I know that this new iPhoto is supposed to be so much faster and able to store a ton of photos in a single library but I have a nearly 50,000 photos as of now spead out over 6 different libraries and each library is for a different subject matter.
iPhoto Buddy has been an excellent way for me to organize my photos and artwork for the past year and I am not sure I want to give it up yet. The creator emailed me to let me know that he is going to test everything out when his copy of '06 arrives.
Anyone out there using iPhoto 6 yet, I realize not too many would even have it yet as I got my copy when the store opened today.
I may hook it up to my laptop and test it out myself later today and let you know what I find out.

O.K. I just found out that you can switch libraries within iPhoto natively. I had been using iPhoto buddy so long that I never noticed when that became a feature of iPhoto itself. I am hooking up iPhoto 6 now...

  • Updated iPhoto '08 and library no longer found, all events gone

I just updated iphoto '08 via update manager. Now it can't find my library. When I navigate to the folder of photos, it refuses to accept it, and when I do an import, I lose all my events and get a mass of 12,000 photos completely unorganized? Why does Apple do this? Its an incremental update - if its going to corrupt your library why not some warning.

    Gregory
if its going to corrupt your library why not some warning.
If they thought it would corrupt your library then they'd hardly have released it now would they?
Of course before any update, you backed up right?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • IPhoto app and library install - which first???

I had to replace my MacBook. I just picked up a MacBook Air. I was able to install the iPhoto app from the app store.
I have not yet run iPhoto. I am in the process of restoring my iPhoto library from CrashPlan (I know - should have a local back up - it fried - long story).
So, here's the question: Do I need to restore my iPhoto library and THEN run iPhoto for the first time? Will it make a difference??? When I open iPhoto for the first time, will it create a new library that would replace what I restored???
    Thanks in advance!!

restore the library first and then launch iPhoto
However the record of restoring from crash plan or any other cloud backup is very poor - it is likely that you will have problems - if you do post back

  • HT5037 photo library upgrade has hung up my iPhoto program and library

I got this message to upgrade my photo library, and it has made my iphoto inoperable. I get a continual spinning circle in the center, while it is supposedly upgrading my photo library. I can't select the Quit button on the upgrade message, and I can't close the program.  If someone knows how to get out of this inconvience I would appreciate the advice

Force quit, backup your iPhoto library, depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your library

  • ITunes and Library missing! Please help!

    Hi everyone
Need a bit of a help. Just download the new version of iTunes and i have lost all my library and my playlists. How can I locate them and get them back I suppose they must be in some folder?
Any help will be deeply appreciated.
    Thanks Ret

If you mean they do not show up in your iTunes libray on your computer:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
In iTunes 11 use Control+B to show the Menu bar then go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

  • The songs on my Ipod and library are gone! Help me Please!

I already tried recreating the library thing and it did not help me and i'm really desperate to have them restored! If you know how to fix this please tell me. I would really appreciate any kind of help you can offer to me.

If your library was "Magically" wiped out, You should scan your system with antivirus and a malware program like Ewido http://www.ewido.com or your personal adware/spyware scanner.
If you have recreated the library and it still pulls nothing in iTunes, Id say the library got corrupt and you will have to add it all back by either going to file>add folder to library or deleting a hidden pref file in windows to get iTunes to auto search your whole system for all your media files like songs and video.
Did you recently update your iTunes?

  • Just updated my OSX and iPhoto  books and library are gone!

I imported the library but no luck.

    What exactly did you do?
Note that you NEVER import one iPhoto library into another one
What version of iPhoto do you have?

    Dear Michael,
    In response to your questions, please see below;
    What OS? OS X 10.8.2
What happens? When i click on the ''AdobePatchInstaller'' i get this message, ''Update Failed, Updates could not be applied. This patch is not applicable for you. Please check for updates from the Help menu in your product to see a list of latest updates available. If the problem persists, contact customer support for further assistance.
    Any error messages? No
Did you have previous versions of the software on your system? No
Is the trouble with the download or the installation of the software? I am not sure but i think it may be the download. It shows that the download was complete and icon appears on the desktop.                                                                                I plan to buy the ''Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium'' but i wanted to try it first via the free trials, especially Photoshop and Illustrator. So please let me know what i need to do.

I have just installed iPhoto 11 and all of photos on my iphone have now all disappeared and ended up in my photo stream and the library in iphoto does not display all my pictures?? Can anyone help?

And I cant work out why all of my pictures are not diplaying in iphoto?
Is this iPhoto on your Mac?  Are you referring to the photos that were in your iPhoto LIbrary prior to the upgrade to iPhoto 11?  If so then apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If that's not what you're referring to then you should describe what is happening in more detail. Remember we can't see your Mac or your iPhone so need detailed and accurate descriptions of what you're experiencing.
Also we need infomartion like do you have an iCloud account and are you logged into it on all of your devices, iPhoto and Mac? do you have Photo Stream enabled on both.

  • I baught second hand iMac and having trouble to reset to factory setting Help pls

I baught second hand iMac and having trouble to reset to factory setting Help pls

The previous owner left a Recovery HD partition on the drive. You cannot use it because it will only install a version of OS X that is tied to that persons Apple ID. You cannot use his/her Apple ID nor reinstall his/her copy of OS X. You must start, literally, from scratch.
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • IPhoto Faces and Contacts.app Trouble

Yosemite (clean install) and iPhoto (MAS) installed and are up-to-date.
iPhoto uses my previous iPhoto Library backed up from external drive (before clean install Yosemite I moved iPhoto Library to external drive, after installing Yosemite I moved iPhoto Library to "~/username/pictures/" folder and launched iPhoto with holding Option key and choosing my iPhoto Library as default).
Then, trying to add picture in Contacts.app I double-clicked photo-field and in pop-up window chose Faces section (which is not gray or absent as it was in some users reports after upgrading to Mountain Lion OS X. in my case the Faces section is normal and can be chosen).
Inspite of my iPhoto Library has a lot of recognized faces the Faces section in popup window of Contacts.app does not contain any of them just advising me to use iPhoto or Aperture apps to recognize faces.
Rebooting and reinstalling iPhoto.app did not help.
    Any ideas?

Have you updated to the current iPhoto version 9.6?
I had the same problem and repairing the iPhoto library solved it. (iPhoto 9.6, Yosemite 10.10.1)
After that the Contacts.app showed those faces, that had been assigned in iPhoto using the contact card. So, first create the card, use the name from Contacts to label the Faces in iPhoto, and then assign the profile picture in contacts from iPhoto's Faces.
To repair and rebuild open the iPhoto library with the First Aid tools:
Launch into the First Aid Tools  by holding down the key combination option-command ⌥⌘ and double clicking the iPhoto Library icon to launch iPhoto on this library.
Keep the two buttons firmly held down, until you are seeing the First Aid panel.
    Then select "Repair database".
If that does not fix it, back up your iPhoto library and try the other First Aid options as well.
