You need to reinstall:
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Still wont open even after installed the prepare file. I haven't felt this frostation since window 5

Go to Applications /Utilities. Find the upgrader app there. Double click on it to run it.

Sorry, no idea what this means.

  • IPhoto won't open, even after 3 re-installations.

My problem is fairly simple; iPhoto refuses to open. I have installed iLife '09 three times because of this, and each time it makes no difference. It hangs for awhile and then offers to relaunch, close, or send a report to Apple. Not really sure what to do at this point.. If it helps, I have a Macbook Pro from early 2008(I think) running Leopard. I've updated everything as of yesterday.

I tried this, and it didn't open on the other account either. Exact same error message. Here's a copy of it:

  • IPhoto will not open even after installation

After importing some photo images from a CD and beginning to edit (red eyes) a few of them, *iPhoto hung up* with the spinning ball. So, I tried to close the application and even shut down the iMac without success. Eventually, I just shut down the iMac using the on/off switch in the back of the globe. After starting it up again, I tried to restart iPhoto without success. Now iPhoto just won't open up. I have tried the MacOS X disk utilities at least twice; and I have used DiskWarrior without impact. I have removed and reinstalled iPhoto 4.0.1 from the iLife disk three times unsuccessfully. At this stage every time I try to start iPhoto, the unpopulated iPhoto screen (no images shown) appears then seems to time out and quit. *I have a LaCie storage disk with pretty recent saves, including the iPhoto and its library.* But, when I tried to transfer that latest iPhoto copy to the iMac, it would not seem to work. Anyone have useful ideas for me?

I've corrected one problem and generated another, I'm afraid. I could not seem to load the iPhoto files, even though the screen said it was loading. So, I followed a suggestion found on this forum to restart iPhoto and create a new photo library first, then drag the older photo library folder into that newer folder. It did not specify whether I should select all folder contents, copy, and drag into that new folder or merely to drag the old iPhoto Library folder inside the new one. I chose the latter. Once that happened, iPhoto restarted nicely but spent hours repairing the photo library. It seems to have corrected several image date problems I'd always noted, but now I'm left with the dilemma of deciding which photo library to use. I no longer have the albums within the iPhoto displays when I open iPhoto; and all images show they were made and imported today. In the previous process, another photo library emerged with a "-1" appended to it. Its contents seem to be correct, but when I specify for iPhoto to use that new photo library_1, the iPhoto contents appear to be empty. At this moment, I'm reloading the newest iPhoto Library-new using the select-all, copy, and drag the contents into it to see whether my albums will appear this time. Before I restart or do anything else which might jeopardize success, any suggestions?

I am at my wits end with iPhoto error messages and inability to reload it. It has worked fine until yesterday when I started getting the library not loaded error message. I deleted the app, removed the pkg files from HD/Library/Receipts and reloaded the app from my iLife CD as suggested. I have done this 6 times without success and continue to receive the same error message. During reinstall it runs for a long time saying loading packages. After reload there are no new pkg files in teh HD/Library/Receipts location. I do not know what to do next . . . I am open to any assistance.

  • Updated itunes, now it freezes upon opening. even after reinstall.

Hey, I recently updated to the newest version of itunes and whenever i open it it freezes automatically. It pops up and i can't click on anything or do anything.
I've tried reinstalling it and redownloading it multiple times but I still get the same results. I've also made sure to download the one with quicktime.
I tried downloading an older version but it says that my library was created by a newer version and it can't be read. Something along those lines.
Can someone please help me? I'm at my wits end about what to do.

I'm having the same issues! iTunes over the past few days has been freezing on opening (sometimes), freezing during routine playback (sometimes), and when it freezes it refuses to die even when I try to force-quit!
I tried rebuilding my iTunes library as suggested, but it didn't work for me. It froze less than 30 minutes after I went through that rigamarole...

I have clicked on the link for itunes in my start\all programs location
I have searched this support community and can not find a converstaion that has to do with no specific error box.
    PLEASE HELP!!
I am so frustrated and about to just give up and deal with the fact I won't have iTunes again

    Hi Kacey,
I suspect that somewhere in all of this your iTunes library database got removed. Here is my usual approach...
    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder (inside your main iTunes folder) should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
If I've misunderstood the situation please provide more details and I will do my best to help.

Iphoto cannot be loaded because of a problem.
Check with the developer to make sure that iphoto works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application.  Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I reinstalled iphoto from the disk (so now I have iphoto and iphone (original) .....i reboot and then try to access the new iphoto....same error.  iphoto library appears ok. I can still attach a pic via "photo browser" button in email.

  • IPhoto won't open even after running library upgrader

    I upgraded to Yosemite.
When I received the prompt " To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared.", I did that (several times) but I continue to receive the prompt.
I deleted my iPhoto preference file - com.apple.iphoto.plist - and tried again, no luck.
I deleted iPhoto and installed the application anew, no luck.
If I MOVE my iPhoto library out of my Pictures folder, I could create a NEW iPhoto library - but I don't want to do that.
    Help?

Did you go to your Applications/Utilities folder and find the upgrader there? Then double click on it to run it?
If I MOVE my iPhoto library out of my Pictures folder, I could create a NEW iPhoto library - but I don't want to do that.
No need to move anything: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

  • Appleworks won't open even after reinstall

Okay folks, this one has me stumped. First, I'm working on my G4. I have two user accounts, a business account and a 'fun' account. My 'fun' account is my 'home' account, if that matters. Here is the problem: Appleworks stopped opening on my business account. All I get is the spinning wheel of death and I have to force quit. I have tried reinstalling Appleworks on both the 'fun' account (where it still works flawlessly) and on the 'business' account, where I still get the spinning wheel of death. During my last round of battle with this problem, I reinstalled AW on my home account, then put the new AW icon in the 'Shared' file, thinking this might solve the problem. No luck. Any help would be appreciated.

You have run into the "Recent Items bug" & it has been around since AppleWorks 6 was released in March, 2000. It can make it appear that AppleWorks has frozen or failed to launch. The recent items are stored for each user which is why one user may be affected but not others. The user tip by Dale Gillard, AppleWorks slow? Spinning ball appears?, explains a lot.

  • Firefox crashes when opening, even after reinstall, on OS X 10.5.8

Firefox will open but crash within 5 seconds of opening. I have done deep uninstall and clean install of firefox using both 3.6.12 and 4.0.7beta versions, but continue to face the same problem.
I have followed instructions on https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/762084 to try to resolve my problem, attempting to create a new profile by accessing profile manager via Terminal. After entering Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -profilemanager, the Mozilla Crash Manager pops up again informing me that Firefox has crashed.
Help is greatly appreciated. Prior to this problem, the last activity I remember doing on FF was checking my gmail. Other browsers like Safari and Chrome run fine, but is frustrating because FF is my primary browser!

Try running "Repair Disk Permissions" in Disk Utility (easily found with spotlight). Have been re-running Firefox without troubles after that.

  • ISync wont open even after reinstalling with Pacifist

I hate to revive a topic that Mr Lafferty (god bless) must have thought dead and gone, and replaced by all the Leopard iSync complaints threads, but...
I have a refusenik iSync in 10.4. I have done all of the reinstallation using Pacifist and OSX combo updates as recommended on other threads, but I still don't have a revived iSync. When launched, the logo still bounces away for a while, then sits in the Dock with no little triangle beneath - just like before I reinstalled. Still no response when I click on it except that the word iSync appears in the top corner and everything freezes until I click on Finder or some other icon.
I have used the 10.4.11 combo update. I have done it twice, and I have tried both Update and Replace when those options appear in the combo update.
Aargh. Is there another more fundamental way of getting rid of this annoying defective iSync and installing a completely new version?
As some may realise, I'm reposting - apologies. But I never get a reply to my posts- help!!!
    Gareth

    Where to start? Try this…
Look for an iSync crash log—iSync.crash.log—here:
    Macintosh HD:Users:<username>:Library:Logs:CrashReporter
Use Technical Note TN 2123: CrashReporter to get some idea of why your copy of iSync crashes.

  • IPhoto '11 suddenly not launching even after reinstalling

I am currently running version 10.6.8 and was using iPhoto '11 for many months without any problems until today!  Suddenly slideshows disappeared, so I checked for any updates - which there was one - and downloaded it.  I then restarted my computer however afterwards iPhoto wouldn't launch at all!  It gives an error message:

Check with the developer to make sure iPhoto works with this version of Maac OS X.  You may need to reinstall the application.  Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X."
Tried restarting again just to make sure. Nothing but same error message.  So, reinstalled the Life '09 disk (since I had purchased iPhoto '11 online).  Even after reinstalling I am only getting the same error message.  No idea what to do now... Please help?!

    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.
