IPhoto unbearably slow!!

iPhoto takes ages to load up, when scrolling it will hiccup every, say, 20 photos, opening photo will take a few seconds, and every time I close it, not only does it take 30 seconds to close, but then it'll freeze up my computer for like 10 minutes where everything slows to the most unbearable crawl and almost every application goes "not responding."
Is there anyway to make iPhoto work a little faster, and like not slow my whole computer all the way down? BTW, I have a Macbook Pro 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo with 2GB of ram and about 10gb free on the HD.

Have you rebooted your laptop recently? If you tend to just sleep it shut it down and then reboot.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Macbook Air 2014 unbearable slow

Ever since I updated to Yosemite back in October, my macbook air has been so god **** slow. I can't get **** done on it, and my fans are overheating all the time. When I start IntelliJ, the CPU overclocks itself to 300%, same goes for photoshop. I can't even get anything done on my laptop anymore, and using an exernal screen is almost not worth it because of all the lag on the graphics and overall performance. It feels like I'm using this laptop back in 2008 with 2003 hardware and ADSL internet.
    Problem description:
Macbook Air is generally slow, the animations are laggy, safari is unbearable slow and I can’t have Photoshop and safari on at the same time for example without suffering so much lag, and the fan starting to go on.

  • IMac has been unbearably slow

    Hello,
I purchased this iMac in early 2012, and it has recently become unbearably slow. Creating new folders, loading new tabs in Chrome, just doing basic work on the computer...it all takes frustratingly long! I don't do any heavy graphics processing, just some light gaming, word processing, excel. I have rebooted within the last few days and don't really want to purchase more RAM unless it's absolutely necessary. Just looking for advice on what options I have!

  • Email review creates workflows file size that makes Acrobat 9 unbearably slow.

I have been using the email review features in Acrobat pro version 9.3.1. All was going fine until, apparently, my workflows file got to around 1.5mb. If I understand correctly this is the file that Review Tracker uses to track PDF emailed for review.
The problem is Acrobat becomes unbearably slow to open and operate.
I narrowed down the reason by opening Acrobat with no plugins loaded and it operated fine. Then by enabling and disabling various plugins I found that when any plug-in having something to do with the commenting and tracking process was enabled acrobat again became unbearably slow. Through searching on this forum I found the workflows file that is created for tracking email reviews. I discovered with all plug-ins enabled and with the workflow file removed acrobat operated fine when I put the file back it again opens and operates unbearably slow.
So I know how to make Acrobat operate correctly by removing the Workflows file. Acrobat will create a new one if I start another review. The big problem is I have lost all my tracking on previous reviews.
I was wondering if anyone else might have had a similar problem when the Workflows file became larger than 1.5mb or so?
Does anyone know of a way I can keep my previous email reviews and still have acrobat operate correctly?
I also wonder if this will happen again?
Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Flattening should be expected to make files bigger, much bigger in the worst case. It is rarely a way to reduce size, though sometimes it will be - it all depends on what is in the file.
An example where it could reduce size is where a series of images are overlayed transparently. This would end up being a single one. There may be cases where lots of layers get consolidated into something simpler, but if the layers were vector and the result is raster it won't.
So, flattening might be a useful tool, but it's best to try it and test the result.
Better still to stop the proprietary software from choking... !

  • Unbearably slow Mac book pro

In the last week my mid 2009 17" has gotten unbearably slow. It took 50 minutes to boot up earlier today and I don't know what is causing it. I have upgraded to 8gbs of ram and I have 37 gbs of HD space free(which I know is a little low but it still shouldn't run that slow. I've ran it on 8 gbs for a whole before and it was fine) Could my Hd be dieing???
I can't even open up finder without getting the colorful busy cursor.
If any one has an idea what it would be I would greatly Appricate it!
    Cheers

    Hi...
and I have 37 gbs of HD space free
37GB's of free space on a 500GB drive is not sufficient. Rule of thumb.  Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

  • Unbearably slow wi-fi?

Is anyone else finding wifi on iPhone 4 to be unbearably slow? I'm stuck waiting for my sim to activate, so it's the only connection to me, but with my 3GS side-by-side, the speeds I'm getting on wifi on iPhone 4 are twice as slow or more as 3G speeds on the 3GS. Could I have a faulty unit?

Actually mine wifi seems better. When I used to go outside at work with my 3gs, it'd drop the connection to the office wireless and then I'd have to sign in again once I got back inside. Now it's held the connection after being out there (in the same area) twice this morning.

  • IPhoto 08' Slow?

    Hi,
Is anybody finding iPhoto o8 slow?
I'm getting a lot of spinning wheel when selecting a photo to edit full screen and it stays really pixellated for several seconds becore becoming sharp on screen. I've got the latest update, 900 photos in this particular library, a 2.16ghz 24" Imac and 3gb of ram.

    Mark
Back up and try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto.
If that fails, launch Activity Monitor ad watch for other processes using the cpu as you work.

  • Why is my iPhoto so slow?

Why is My Iphoto so slow when I open it a use it?   It takes forever to open and utilize.

    Because something's wrong?
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

  • Glade unbearably slow

    Hello everyone,
I've searched all over but couldn't find many topics about this, and especially not solutions.
My problem is that Glade (the GTK visual GUI builder) is unbearably slow. Whenever I click anything, it takes several seconds to respond.
Does anyone know of a solution? What information could I post to help?
    Some info:
    ‘glade’ package version: 3.10.2-1
    ‘gtk3’ package version: 3.2.2-2
    QT Designer works flawlessly.
    Thanks,
    Nanthiel

    Bump?
I've almost switched over to C++ and Qt.

  • K9copy Unbearably Slow

    Hello,
Recently, I have noticed that k9copy was unbearably slow compared to what it's normally like.  Nearly unresponsive the whole time.  I was wondering if anybody knows a workaround to it, or if it has to do with some KDE libraries (btw, I'm running Gnome).  What used to take it ~20 minutes to backup a DVD is literally taking hours, and it's not even close to being done.  I haven't had a problem for the ~6 months that I've been using it until now.  It also likes to spit out DCOPServer errors and crash eventually, and whilst I Googled it, came up with no useful answers.
If anybody knows why it's acting up, or if they have any suggestions, your help is greatly appreciated.
    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    Gnome 2.22.2
k9copy 1.2.3-1 (from AUR) and from version that used to be in the repo.
and the basic requirements for k9copy to run (also had KDE fully installed to see if it would work, but since uninstalled due to program clutter from KDE)
    Thank you in advance.

try running it in a terminal and see if there are any errors, and check and see if you have your hostname in your /etc/hosts file.

  • Unbearably Slow WiFi (Yosemite)

    Fellow Apple users,
I am writing this on my iPhone 6, connected to WiFi, while listening to some music via iTunes Match on my Apple TV, also connected to WiFi. Once Yosemite was finally finished installing on my MBP, I decided to give it a spin. It looks great, The only downside is that my Wi-Fi connection is unbearably slow. I've reset the router and restarted the computer to know avail. As I mentioned before, I am enjoying swift speeds on both my iPhone and my AppleTV, yet it takes upwards of a minute  (sometimes several minutes) to load popular webpages like NYTimes.com or pitchfork.com. Sending messages also take several seconds, when it should be instantaneous. Haven't even attempted a FaceTime video, for it was surely fail.
Is anyone else experiencing this? What should I do? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

My 2014 MacBook Air runs wireless flat out at 300Mbps all day long using a 5Ghz wireless n connection from my 4th gen Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. I don't have one here to test, but the iPhone 6 specs include 5Ghz 802.11n and ac. If your iPhone 6 is sipping on 2.4Ghz wireless g or n, it may be subject to considerable wireless competition in dense apartment, or neighborhood Wi-Fi saturation.
Providing your router supports it, offering your iPhone 6 with a 5Ghz wireless-n or ac connection will improve the WLAN experience — barring a slow ISP Internet package, concurrent streaming media, or Internet anomalies that impact bandwidth.

  • Flash runs unbearably slow on my Powerbook, help!

    Heya,
So I'm running a 12" Powerbook with a 1.33 Ghz G4, 1.25 GB RAM, and an NVidia GeForce FX Go5200 64MB RAM... Flash runs unbearably slow on my machine and it just happened all of the sudden. Although this issue came up the first time about two years ago I just bore the burden of it. But being a web developer it's just ridiculous. Now this only happens with videos, and no it's not related to the buffer, I've read that there an issue with Flash rendering techniques that caused it to slow down dramatically at like Flash 8 or something. I desperately need help resolving this and I'm wondering if anyone can help?? Thanks!

    Hello,
How much available disk space is there?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop, then click: Get Info. In the Get Info window, click the discovery triangle so it's facing down. You will see; Capacity and Available Make sure you have 10% available disk space, 15% is better. Your Mac needs free disk space in order to render video. Could that be the issue?
Wouldn't hurt to check the boot disk for errors:
If not, shut down PBook. Now, press the power button, hold down the C key, and insert the restore disk all at the same time. Keep holding down the C key until you see the Apple logo. An Installer window will open but DO NOT proceed with any installations, instead from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Disk Utility. In the DU window, select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab and click: Verify If DU reports errors, click Repair. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar select Utilities/Startup Disk and select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.

  • My iMac boots up unbearably slow.

My iMac has become unbearably slow recently.
It takes over 10 minutes for the computer to boot up and for the dock to appear.
It also takes forever to open a program. But, from my observations, the computer starts to behave normally afree several hours of usage. It was not like this previously.
I have done some Googling and have tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, but it is still the same.
I have over 900GB free in my startup disk, so a lack of storage is not the problem.
    Please help me.

Before you do ANYTHING backup the computer and check the backup. Next run Apple's Hardware Test in Extended Mode 2-3 times back to back, your HD may be failing. The reason to run in multiple times is AHT does not always find errors on the first or second pass, however when it does they are correct. If errors appear then take it to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
