Iphoto unexpectedly shuts down while importing photos
Recently iphoto has been shutting down every time i try to import photos from my camera. i originally thought that it was a problem with my CF card but i tried uploading with a new one and als an SD card but i have had the same problem. ANyone haveing the same problem, any ideas how to fix it? i am using v6.06.

Ensure that you have the latest version of the OS (10.4.10), Quicktime (7.1.6) and the app.
1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the home / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.
4. Are there movies on these cards as well as photos?

IPhoto '11 shuts down when importing photos
I upgraded to Lion and iPhoto '11. When I try to import photos into iPhoto (from my camera, saving from an email, etc.), the application immediately shuts down. Any thoughts?

Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

IPhoto v9.2.3 shuts-down when importing photos
Each time I try and import photos from my camera, iPhoto just shuts down. This only started happening in the last day and has never happended before. Can anyone suggest how I might rectifiy this issue?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

IPhoto shuts down when importing photos
Whenever I have 35,000 photos or more in iPhoto when I try to import more the program just seems to quit. Is there some sort of limit to the total photos that can be imported?

Well Steve said around 20,000. We have found, depending on the camera you use, the number to be a lot less. I strongly urge you to divide up that huge library into smaller libraries.

Iphoto '11 shuts down when importing from a SD reader

Computer shuts down while importing
This doesn’t happen with every song I try to import in iTunes, but let’s say with 2 out of 10 songs, while importing my computer simply shuts down. Just before it dies on me it says something like: Error, disk locked. I just can’t figure out what’s his problem.
Hp Pavilion dv1000 Windows XPProblem solved for me... I changed the place of my computer which seem to have helped. I think the problem was heat... too much heat and now I can import a full CD without my computer to shut down. If it is not heat, I read that it could be bad memory. if my computer shuts down again, I will check the memory of my computer.

Iphoto keeps shutting down during import
Is there a limit on the number of pictures you can have on iphoto? I am trying to load the pictures from my vacation (yes there are around 800 of them) and the computer either errors and shuts down the iphoto program. Or restarts the entire computer automatically. I don't know why it's doing either. I have the pictures on my laptop but I would like to put them on our big computer for editing and safe keeping. Thoughts on this?

Yes. 250,000, so you may have some headroom there.
How are you getting connecting the two Macs together? While things can go wrong causing iPhoto to crash it would be very unusual to cause the Mac to restart.

IMac G5 shuts down while importing HDV video in iMovie
So here is the problem, my 20" iMac G5 will be importing video from my Sony HDV camera, and will just shut down. I mean turn off completely. It happened 6 times yesterday to my wife. When I try to turn it back on, sometimes it will work, sometimes, I have to unplug the iMac from the plug and wait 30seconds before it will turn on again. Any one have any experience with this? Is it a power supply issue? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Windows shuts down while importing CDs
Please help!
I purchased my iPod 30 Gig Video about two weeks ago. I have a Windows XP Home SP2 computer. When I’m importing CDs Windows shuts down the computer and dumps the physical memory. This happens when I usually put in the second CD. Here are the specs of my computer:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
2.08 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
I have a Memorex DVD 16+/-DL4RWD2 DVD/CD-ROM drive
For my virus protection I’m using Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security2006
When the problem first started I uninstalled and reinstalled the iTunes/iPod software. I made sure that all of the previous versions of iTunes and Quicktime were deleted. When I reinstalled I turned off my virus protection.
Lately when I’ve come across this problem I turn off the virus protection thinking that that might have something to do with it.
I have all the current Windows updates and the drivers for all of my hardware is also current. I don’t know if my virus protection is causing many problems (i.e. firewall, etc.) Can someone please help?
Thanks.Your's isn't a dual processor (or simulated dual processor, aka, hyperthreaded) machine, is it? I and many others have found this problem to occur on such machines (when is Apple going to fix this problem?) Some have found forcing iTunes to run on only one processor to be a successful workaround (there are at least a couple freeware utilities out there (I don't recall their names OTTOMH) that will force a PC app to run on only one processor on multi-processor machines, or you can try, after starting iTunes up, cntr-alt-deleting and selecting Task Manager, then in the list of running apps, right-click on iTunes and choose Go To Process, then right-click on the selected process and select Set Affinity, and uncheck one (or all but one if you happen to have more than two processors) of the boxes) but this didn't work for me: I had to physically remove one of my two processors - I haven't had the problem since, so I'm confident that was (is) the problem in my case. (But I'm still ****** 'cause I very purposefully bought a dual processor machine; it just so happens that right now I'm doing more CD importing than dual core work, so for now it's the best solution for me, but I eagerly await the day I hear that Apple has FIXED THIS PROBLEM!)

Computer shuts down while importing audio cds?
When I am on the 4th or 5th song, mu computer justs shuts down? Any ideas?
Jennare you getting any sort of blue screen, Jenn? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)

if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked. -
Why does iphoto6 shut down while importing pictures?
This happens when I import IMG_xxxx.jpg pictures from the desktop, documents folder. iPhoto shows the same problem when opening IMG_xxxx.jpg pictures that already exist in the library.
This has been happenning since the latest update to iphoto.
What has gone wrong here?

Anyone having issues with your iphone4 shutting down while editing photos
Recently I have been cropping some photos on my iphone4, while in the midst of cropping the phone shuts off. Everything is up to date on the phone and I am not sure what the cause of this is. Has anyone else had this issue and what have you done to resolve it?
Thanksthere were quite a few people that had the probably when trying to crop a screenshot, the solution hasn't been found. i haven't seen any threads on here of people having problems editing regular photos.

Iphoto shuts down when uploading photo book
Since upgrading iPhoto to v11 I cannot buy photo books. Have created a photo book but when uploading iPhoto unexpectedly shuts down. It always occurs at page 48 of 50. I have tried hard cover, soft cover and wire but same result each time. frustrating given the time spent creating the book.

Thanks for advice. I had to completely reconstruct the book but it is now uploaded.
This has presented a new problem for me. I have just found out that my credit card has been charged 8 times for the book, a charge for every failed attempt. hopefully these will be credited back quickly. Have others suffered the same and was it rectified quickly.

Aperture shut down during import
I started the import of photos from iPhoto to Aperture. Aperture shut down in the process. How do I upload only the photos that did not transfer? I tried import again, but it appears to want to upload the entire library again..
Have you done any work in the Aperture Library? If not, just delete it and redo the import into a new Library.
This may be a good idea anyway, until you determine what caused Aperture to shut down during the last import. Aperture allows you to easily merge Libraries.
Make a back-up of your iPhoto data first -- after confirming that nothing was harmed when Aperture shut down while importing.
Also, if you haven't upgraded your OS to the current version (you have 10.7.1 listed), you should.
