Iphoto unreadable file error

I have iphoto on my mac and I recently imported some new photos. When I try and access the photos through iphoto my iphoto reads "FINISHING IMPORT" then an error pops up saying "UNREADABLE FILES: THE FOLLOWING FILE COULD NOT BE IMPORTED (THE FILE IS IN THE IPHOTO LIBRARY FOLDER).
I understand that iphoto cannot import files from the iphoto folder but why can I access the files in iphoto once they are imported. I'm double clicking the photos that usually full screens the image and now im getting that import error. Please help! Thanks

not sure to understand your concern.
This error message usually occurs when trying to import non image files (or image files not recognised by iPhoto or corrupetd files). The error message in that case is accompanied with a list of files which could not be imported.
I am getting confused when you say that you want to import files that are located in iPhoto folder. If they are already there, you don't need to import them...
Never put manually pics in the iPhoto folder directly.
If not answered, please clarify your question.

  • Unreadable Files Error when Importing

Hi - I get an "unreadable files" error when trying to import from my iPhoto Library folder. I've read the other postings, and it sounds as though I should not have moved files directly into this folder. If that's the case, can someone please tell me how to move iPhoto Library files from an external HD onto my computers HD so that I can access the files in iPhoto? What I did was move pictures from my external HD "Pictures,iPhoto Libray, Originals" into the the same folder on my computer's HD - Thanks for any help you can provide!

    misstexas:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
import from my iPhoto Library folder
That's the reason. iPhoto will not import any file that resides anywhere inside the iPhoto Library folder. Move them to the Desktop and import from there.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Unreadable file error when downloading from Iphone

I recently updated my Macbook Pro to Mountain Lion OS and iPhoto 11.  Now when I try to import any video or pics I get the "unreadable file" error.  I think it may have to with my system preferences or something because when I try to back up my phone on iTunes it says not enough disk space when my hard drive says there is 200gb free.  Anybody have any idea where I should start?  Go easy on my this is my first post.

Actually if the files download on her husbands computer then the problem is unlikely to do with either the files or Blackboard
Blackboard inc would be the wrong contact as they are simply the company that sell the software - the people to contact would be the support people at the institution hosting the blackboard installation who look after all the configuration of the servers - however if they download fine for some users for some then  it is unlikely to be a blackboard issue.
The most likely cuprit is the internet connection which is probably timing out before the download finishes - the other possiblity is that something running on your computer i momentarily breaking the connection with a loss of data.
Normally if you have the adobe browser plugin for IE the file will actually open in the reader in the browser but this doesnt always work in other browsers.

  • IPhoto Unreadable Files ITS A JPG!!!

    Hello! (:
I'm trying to import some pictures the rest have gone fine but the most recent pictures i've taken keep going up as 'unreadable files' but they're normal just a jpg so nothing unusual. I REALLY need to upload these help!
    Thanks for any help!

    Are they in B&W?
    If not:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Iphoto 09, file error message when sending book

when I was selecting images for a 52 page book iphoto froze a few times but recovered itself. But I finished book and pressed Buy book. It assembled the book, and started transmitting it. I wasnt watching all the time but it seemed to have sent about half the book size when it stopped giving me a message saying there was a file error. none of the pics had that ! appear when I was choosing the images. Clicked Retry and it started all over again. Same thing happened.
Anyone got any idea how to tell if there is a particular image that is causing a fault. I had a couple of images on a previous book that i had to remove because they were corrupted and I wondered if this was same thing. Mind you different error message this time. So maybe not?

Have you previewed the book according to these instructions - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 ?
If that works try ordering again - if it fails too then Backup your iPhoto library and rebuild it form the last automatic database backup (launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and command (apple) keys

  • IPhoto to file error message

Upgraded to Mavericks. Trying to scan photo and when the scanning is complete, I get "iPhoto to file" cannot open. So I hit reopen and the same message occurs. How can I correct this?

Try using the free version of  iPhoto Library Manager   to rebuild your library and have it safe the rebuild version directly to the EHD.
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

  • Unreadable Files error message

I am trying to import photos from a Sony DSC-N1 camera that i have done numerous times since getting my macbook. I am getting an error that says the files are unreadable and can not be imported and they are all in the jpg format. I have never had this issue before. please help! thank you

1 photo uploaded via the preview option you suggested but it looks like the other picture files were corrupted from not removing the camera correctly from the computer (maybe?). However, i can see them on the camera and the iphoto screen, but not on the preview screen (only a sliver of each is showing). Any suggestion on how to get them back so they can be uploaded? this might not be a question for this forum, but thought i would ask. thanks for your help

  • Unreadable file error

I'm trying to add to my iphotos library .jpg files from my pictures directory in finder. however i keep getting the follow error msg:
The following files could not be imported (they may be unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)
I've also tried using copy and paste and get the same msg. NB the photos I am trying to bring across were originally imported into my mac from a memory stick rather directly from a camera.
I can however view JPG files imported directly from a camera.

I connected my iphone one day and the thing said "no access privileges" or something along those lines. I realized at that point I could not open iphoto. The same thing, no access privileges. I tried a bunch of things to get it to relauch, rebuilding iphoto etc. Sometimes it would load but when I closed iphoto on the next launch I'd get the same problem. I eventually tried to just create a new iphoto library. I was successful and thought I'd just grab the files from the iphoto package contents. Well...none of the 8891 photos I have in my library will import. I get this error:
*The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)*
I spent about 6 hours over 2 days trying to get to the bottom of this. I eventually called apple tech support and $49 bucks and over an hour later the guy says "at this point we've determined that iphoto is working properly and that it has to do with the content and therefore it is not there problem anymore"! Thanks for the 49 bucks! In their opinion I must have done something to the files so they wont import. Which by the way is total b.s. These files load into any other program fine. Somehow, iphoto f'ed up and these photo's must have some sort of protection embedded in them exclusive to iphoto. What the ****? I'm not an iphoto expert and I've been hung out to dry.
Anyone else out there ever have this problem. All new photos or I should say any photos not previously loaded into iphoto will load no problem.

  • "Unreadable Files" error r/c when importing JPG

My computer was recently serviced and now iPhoto "doesn't recognize" my HD photo card filled with JPG files (photos).  My camera settings haven't changed, and I've never had this problem before.
HOWEVER, my daughter's same laptop imports them without error.  I suppose I need to change some setting beyond my capabilities.
Can anyone please offer some help?
    Thanks, in advance!

Other than that, have you considered returning to where it was "serviced" and getting them to "service it better"?

I have already tried to create a new library and it still does the same thing. I have never had this problem with my camera before so I don't know what's wrong. I'm using iPhoto '08

  • Unreadable File when trying to import Pictures from CompactFlash in Reader

In the past I have been able to read images from my compactflash.
    This just started happening.
I have a Canon EOS Rebel and it stores images on a CompactFlash. When I put it in my Dazzle* Hi-Speed USB 2.0 reader to download the images into iPhoto, I'm getting "unreadable file" errors. Then I take the same reader and flash card to my Windows laptop, I'm able to read the images. Then I figure.. what if I manually copy the pictures to a folder on the Mac... Well, they copy over, and if I single click the file when my finder is on Column mode, the thumbnail of the image comes up in the Preview pane, but when I double click it for Preview Application to open, the image comes up digitally corrupted. Even if I take my USB cable that came with the camera, I put the flash back into the camera and then I try to download the images and still get the same error.
I HAVE TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO GET MY PICS TO IPHOTO!!
So, I scaled down the capture from LARGE to SMALL, and tried to read the files from the reader again. I GET THE SAME ERROR! Then I try the USB Cable direct to the camera, and lo and behold, iPhoto is able to pull in the pictures.
My question is... Has anybody out there experienced CompactFlash card reader problems? You think this is a Tiger problem?
PS.. I've tried reformatting the flash using the OS from the Camera, and with Windows OS with no success.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the reply...
When I was experimenting, I copied the files from the reader unto the mac, discovered I couldn't read it, then from the Windows computer, I networked over to the Mac to attempt to view the images. It was corrupted, that's when I went on a wrong tangent.. and started blaming the camera. I foolishly formatted the card, erasing the good images. So, now I'm left with bad images on the Mac because, I missed the opportunity to copy the images unto the windows laptop with the reader. There weren't that many pictures, but darn... we could've used one of them for our XMAS card.
This experiment still begs the question, "How come the reader can work on the windows computer and not the Mac?" but, life is short... readers are cheap, I'll just buy one just like the one I borrowed... that works, on the Mac, and keep the other reader on the Windows computer with a sign that says "Doesn't work on Mac!".
But just curious, what is a "kext file"? Is that a driver?

  • Unreadable files-related to Photshop CS2???

Today I installed Photoshop CS2 on my PowerBook, and I used it to edit an image from my iPhoto library. Of course, I did NOT save the edited image back into the iPhoto library, but the next time I tried to open iPhoto, NONE of my images were visible.
The images are still in the Library folders, but when I try to open them I get an "Unreadable Files" error message.
I have tried moving the library to the desktop and creating a new library with it, but no no avail. Any suggestions? I'm in the heart of Alaska right now and miles away from the nearest Apple professional.

    ok, that's better.
    Close iPhoto
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto Holding down the Option key
At the prompt, choose to create a new library
Once the new library is open, go to File/add to library
Navigate to the library on the desktop and choose it.
Your images will import in dated rolls.
If you shoot in RAW, have video clips, and have edited images, then you will also get Original rolls that contain these items.
If you had video clips you will also get the jpeg pointers for those clips that are now just jpegs not pointing to anything (you can delete these as iPhoto makes new pointers for the video clips)
The thumbnails will not get imported as new ones are created.
Good luck and get back with the results!

  • When importing photos into iPhoto I get an error Unreadable Files:

When importing photos into iPhoto I get an error Unreadable Files: The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).
I can open the JPG in question with PREVIEW, photoshop etc.. actually if I try to import a photo that I had originally imported it also fails..
    Please help... Thank you..

I too had this error message (and to be honest, it was becoming a bit of a pain). I resolved it in a slightly different way to Terence.
I had 10 photos that were allegedly unreadable; however, as Terence rightly says, they are duplicates. When I opened iPhoto I mad a note of each of the files concerned and did a Spotlight search throughout my hard drive.
For each photo, there were four or five duplicates. I deleted all but one of each of the photos and then reopened iPhoto. No more error message.
The original problem stemmed from importing my files directly from an external device I was using with a previous computer [that was running XP].
    Anyway, hope this helps.

    Need information to help
what version of iPhoto? Is OS X 10.8 as you state correct for the OS? Has it ever worked? What has changed since it worked? Will Image Capture  ( in your applications folder) import the photos? How are you importing - USB to the camera? USB card reader? built in card reader?
Any other clues that would help a total stranger who can not see you or your computer assist you?
