IPhoto 'unreleased version' won't open?

Help! I have a 7 year old PowerPC G5 running on all the original software it came with. When I tried to open iPhoto I got this message:
'The photo library was created with an unreleased version of iPhoto. Please quit and upgrade this library by opening iPhoto 2 or iPhoto 4'.
Anyone know what this means? To my knowledge I haven't installed an 'unreleased' version of iPhoto. How to I get iPhoto to work again?
I know very little about macs, so if anyone cn help please could you explain exactly step by step what I need to do.

App Store version won't open. When I click on the icon, I get the following pop-up. "Warning. The Library in "Users/me/Pictures/aperture library.aplibrary" cannot be upgraded" and then an option to quit. So the App does not even launch. I deleted and re-downloaded it and the same happens. It is a new 15" Mac pro, all software up to date. I use iPhoto for all my existing photos, located in the Pictures folder on the hard drive (all default settings). Help please appreciated.

Thank you. That did it, but now when I have imported from iPhoto library, all my pictures are coming out with patches of Blue or Red (a bit like when you are selecting areas for instant alpha, or when looking for blown out areas of a photo (I am no pro as you can tell). This is the case on most photos (around 9000). Could you help here too?

Please help me figure this out. I'm very unhappy at the moment. I'm fustrated and don't have any idea how to revert to the original version before the update was done on iMovie 10. I NEVER hated APPLE until NOW!! I love APPLE products and apps so please help me stay in that mindset. So I worked on some movie projects when I got my macbook pro 6 months ago. I update reguarly. I saw the update prompt and honestly, I did not think I would have ANY issuess with opening my previous files that I created only a few months ago with this updated version.The new updated version of iMovie 10 won't let me open my previous files I created before the update today. I have a wedding that I'm trying to finish and deliver and now I can't because that file version won't open. I keep getting an error message and the iMovie app closes. Last night I saw the file and tried to open it but no luck. Error message came up again. I reboot and turned off my laptop for the evening and tried again just now but nothing!! I need that video. My job depends on it! I worked so hard on this wedding video and now it's lost and won't open. I work another job and don't have much time. I really don't want to start all over again. I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?
I am running Yosemitie on a iMac.

Updated to Yosemite, no problem. now iPhoto and iMovie won't open. Says I need to update software however, when i try to update indicates my User ID and PW won't work for these two pieces of software. User ID and PW works everywhere else.

I am having the same problem. I even changed my password and updated all of my security information. Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work. Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00. So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid. Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?

you could also clone the drive or volume, or just some of the user folders. look for carbon copy cloner, then enable the "use checksum to insure file integrity."
you can have multiple iPhoto Library catalogues in different locations.
Continue to use TimeMachine and make sure it has 350% or more capacity than your system and data.

which is odd as I have been on iphoto 5 since I can remember - clearly it was not created with an unreleased version of iPhoto as I don't have any unreleased versions of iPhoto !!!!!!! do any even exist !!!
do you think there is a wider issue here ? (I am sure sorry I did that last software security upgrade !! - for ages no probs til the day after ....)

So far I have not seen any solution for that error message in these discussions. If you have a recent backup of your iPhoto Library folder then take the old library out of the Pictures folder and put your backup library in there (I suggest you backup the backup before you do this) Launch iPhoto and hopefully everything will be back to normal. If you don't have a backup then...
The only thing I can tell you to do right now is to create a new library and import/add to the library to reimport your images.
these are the steps:
Close iPhoto
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto
In the next window that opens choose to create a new library.
When the new empty library opens go to File/add to library
In the next window navigate to the library on your desktop and choose it.
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
You will have to redo your albums, keywords, etc.

IPhoto unreleased version

Hi,
I'm trying to fix a friends iMac G5 powerPC only 4 months old with a problem with iPhoto. The info says we're dealing with iPhoto 5.04, but in place of the usual iPhoto icon in the apps folder, there is a generic icon with an "A" on it.
Tried a few suggestions in this forum, repairing disk permissions, trying to rebuild the iPhoto library, trying to create a new one, each time it just hangs, and I've gotten a message
"The iPhoto library was created with an unreleased version of iPhoto. Please quit and upgrade this library by opening it in iPhoto 2 or 4"
I've tried reinstalling 5.04 but not successful, the install quits half way through.
Any suggestions? We're on the latest version of Tiger. Do I have to reinstall the whole OS from the disks?

If the G5 iMac is only 4 months old then he should have iPhoto 6 as it would have come with the machine.
I suggest the following:
1 - boot into the system install disk and run the disk repair routine. (If there's a message that files have been repaired rerun it until there's no repair reported).
2 - download and run the 10.4.6 COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions.
3 - Download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
4 - and lastly reinstall iPhoto 6 from the disks it came on and immediately update to the latest version. Then repair disk permissions. You'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.

Iphoto default library won't open

I've been having iPhoto problems, and after all the research.... I've found that my computer STILL DOES have my photos!!! (hallelujah) I downloaded iPhoto Library Manager & the "missing photos" are in my "DEFAULT" folder on iphoto, containing a couple thousand pictures and whatnot. Ex:
HOWEVER, (this is what is giving me the biggest issue), I can't open that default library!!! I know that it's still there, the pictures are in there.... I just cannot open the Default library! I clicked on "launch iPhoto" and it asked me to choose a library to launch. A whole bunch of rebuild libraries popped up, but not my DEFAULT library that I need to open! Ex:
Why isn't my DEFAULT library popping up in this table? And how can I open this library? I've been "missing" these photos for weeks now, and have been searching high and low for answers. I am finally so close! Found the pics, but can't retrieve them! Help! -

IPhoto and iDVD won't open after I reinstalled iLife '08

I was unhappy with iMovie '08, so I tried to load an older version from my iLife '05. However, it copied over all of my iLife '08 apps. I was hoping it would give me the option of just installing the iMovie app. Everything opened except for iPhoto and iDVD. I then reinstalled iLife '08, to try and fix the problem, from the bundled software that came with the computer. But still, iPhoto and iDVD don't open. Here's what iPhoto report says...

delete all of your iLife applications and your iLife receipts - do not do anything with your iPhoto library
Install iLife '08 and go to the Apple downloads page and download iPhoto 06 (a free download for iLife '08 owners) and install it and you will have the best of both worlds iLife '08 and iMovie 06

Ordered book from Blurb and pdf version. Pdf version won't open properly in Digital Editions 2.

My pdf version of a book I ordered from Blurb tries to open in digital editions 2 but only shows me random pages. It cannot "read" the book page by page. Any suggestions?

Elements 11 trial version won't open

I've just downloaded a trial version of Elements 11. However, it won't open on my Mac.
I've installed it twice, and have restarted my computer, but to no avail. When I click on the icon for 'Open Photoshop Elements 11', all I get is a window containing 'Read me' in four different languages, and the installer icon (containing 'deploy', 'install', 'packages', and 'payloads'.
Am I missing something?
Any advice appreciated.

When I double click 'install', I get the adobe installer screens, and the installation goes smoothly. No 'error' message.
I don't have 'sugarsync' or anything like it. I'll uninstall the programme and download it one more time.

Conflicting Versions, Won't Open Photos

I have a bunch of photos on my Pro. It's using iPhoto v.11. I'm giving this laptop to my daughter so I'm transfering those photos to my iMac. It's an old one (6 years) with OSX 10.6.8 and iPhoto. When I try to open the photos that have been transferred I get a dialog that says "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto." It goes on to say that I can quit and use the latest version of iPhoto or create a new photo library. However, the dialog only has a quit button and all the regular iPhoto menu choices are grayed out. (consequently, can't determine which version this is) Anyhow, is there any way to get my newer version photos to open in my older version of iPhoto?
Also, I tried to buy an updated version of iPhoto but the old iMac doesn't support it.

No - older version of iPhoto can not open newer libraries
You can use iPHoto library manager to rebuild the library for an older version - directions are in their FAQs - this does not maintain non-sharable items like projects and keepsakes

IWork '09 Pages test version won't open saved document

I worked on a Pages (30-days test version) document the whole day, saved all my changes but after I restarted the computer Pages wouldn't re-open it telling me that it can't be read. There are several versions of my file, all with the same name, but the only one I can open is an old version without all today's changes...

OK, Numbers 3.5.2 is doing the same thing, save an unchanged document and then it won't re-open… I found a fix, export as a Numbers 9 version, then re-open and save as latest version. Seems to be robust…

After Effects 2014 updated version won't open

Hi,
Ever since I updated after effects on Thursday 4th December 2014 (I think it was) it will not open. We downloaded an older version of CC but I cannot open any of my projects as they were made in the new 2014 version. We have uninstalled and installed but yet to figure out why the updated 2014 version will not open. We only bought this less than 2 months ago.
Any help would be appreciated.
