IPhoto Update Problem

I updated my software as usual, including an iPhoto update.  The install of the update worked well until the program began updating my iPhoto library.  The updating got to step 5 and 99% complete.  It gets to this point again and again and never moves forward.  It is like I am in one of those internal loops of the olden days.  What can I do?  Please help.  Davis

force quit, Back up your iPhoto library, Depress the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library

  • Iphoto update problem-please help

    Hi everyone,
everything started trying to look some photos out of a CD (200 JPG files) I was trying to import them to my library but the program crashed or stopped everytime at photo number 31. I was using Iphoto 5.0.4 so i decided to update it to 6.0.3 version but when I select the destination (Macintosh HD; 55.8 GB-35.3GB Free-)
    I got a message saying:
You cannot installed it in that volume because the eligible iphoto application was not found in the location / Applications/iPhoto.app
I looked, and the iphoto is under applications, now I'm not sure if I have memory space problems or what, could anyone please help me?
I am not familiar with this, so I'll appreciate any advice.
    thanks

    Hi panis,
iPhoto 5.0.4 is the last update to iPhoto 5. To
update to 6.0.3 you have to purchase iPhoto 6 (part
of iLife 6) first, then update to 6.0.3.
    thanks for the answer,
but i am still having problems using the iphoto 5 then.
I try to import the photos I have in a CD but the program blocks and I'm lead to force to quit when working on it.
I don't even can see the photos all the photos from the CD in thumbnail version, and I've tryed in a PC computer and I am able to see all of them. memory problems?
the computer is asking lately to quit an application or to restart it.
    any idea?

  • IPhoto update problem accessing files

I installed the iLife 06 on my computer today, and when I launch iPhoto, it prompts me to upgrade. When I do so, it runs its course loading photos, but at the end, I get the following dialogue:
"There is a problem accessing one or more files in your iPhoto Library folder. In the Finder select the iPhoto Library folder. Then Choose File> Get Info. Make sure you have read and write permissions for the folder and then apply this setting to all inclosed items."
So...I did as was suggested, and the Library folder and the folders it contained SEEM to have read and write permissions. Do I have to open each of THOSE folders and check within them too (YIKES!), or am overlooking some basic thing I need to do.
Your help is appreciated. Thanks! --Kari

    Hi Karl,
Wow, I can't believe how many people have had the same problem. You will find many threads here dealing with it but here is the jist of it.
" Unable to upgrade this library because the current user does not have access"
-First make sure your Pictures folder has the correct permissions for you, the user. Do this by highlightling the Pictures folder, hit Command i to bring up the info pane.
Make sure you are the owner and have read and write permissions. Click the button at the bottom of the window.
-If your problem is a locked file/files follow the info in the following Apple kb
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303232
If all this fails you might want to try BatCHmode.

  • IPhoto Update Problem: Log In On Other Account

I am attempting to update, via App Store, my iPhoto 9.3 to 9.4. However, I keep getting a warning that I have to sign in to another account to update. But I don't have another account...
The iphoto was originally loaded onto my old (2007) MacBook Pro.  I'm now on a 15" Macbook Pro Retina.  Everything else seems to have migrated well.
Any ideas, solutions are greatly appreciated.

Simple: Sign in to the App Store with the account you used to either set up the machine or purchase the app.
If you did neither of these then contact the person who did.

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • IPhoto update failure after updating to yosemite

Updated to yosemite, now I can't use iPhoto without updating that too.
Error message when I try to update iPhoto : "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled". Neither is true, no other option or explanation given. The iPhoto was bundled with the computer when I bought it in 2009, never had any updating problems until now, checked Apple ID and it is the correct one. This was obviously caused by the update so why is a fix not obviously available. Makes me wonder what other problems will arise.
How can I get the proper update?

That means, that iPhoto has not been associated with your AppleID. You do not say, which iPhoto version you are trying to update from.
Associating iPhoto with your AppleID should have happened, when you bought the computer with iPhoto preinstalled with MacOS X Lion or later or with the Mavericks upgrade, if your Mac came with SnowLeopard. Try, if you can "accept" iPhoto now:
Sign into the AppStore with your AppleID
Open the "Purchased" tab. Do you see iPhoto with an "Accept" button?
Accepting associates your Apple ID with the preinstalled iPhoto. It should move iPhoto from the "Accept" portion of the App Store to the "Purchased" tab. After that, you should be able to update iPhoto from the Updates tab of the AppStore.
If you do you not see the update there, try to buy iPhoto. iPhoto may show for free, so you do not have to pay again.
Backup your iPhoto library, if you do not have a current backup.
Uninstall iPhoto by deleting it from the Applications folder, otherwise you cannot buy it again. But do not empty the Trash, so you can put iPhoto back, if need be.
Launch the App Store, click the "Store" menu, and sign in with your current AppleID.
Open the main page "Featured" of the App Store and search for iPhoto.
If iPhoto is listed as "Free", click the "Free" button to buy it with your current AppleID.
If it is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support to sort out the AppleID. Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/
After you update iPhoto, your iPhoto Library will need upgrading. Make a backup of your iPhoto Library, before you open iPhoto the first time after updating.

  • IPhoto update from iLife06 won't open HP Scans. Help?

I decided to install iLife06 and had instant problems. I have a 2.5 Dual G5 running 10.3.9. and am using an HP 4890 scanner. Prior to installing the iPhoto update as part of iLIfe06, everything worked fine. I would scan a photo and transfer it to iPhoto and open it and work on it and whatever. Now...scans won't open in iPhoto. No matter how I try to sneak the scan into iPhoto, (via Preview, etc.), it won't open, freezes and has to be force quit. Reinstalled HP software to no avail. All the prior scans done on the same HP 4890, that were already in iPhoto, open fine, but new ones....nada. Had issue with iWeb too, not happy with this iLife06...how do I get rid of it, get back the old iPhoto, and back to serenity? If I use the original disks can I just install the old iPhoto?

    Hi redcatres,
I do not know the answer of why the scans are not opening in iPhoto. Do you scan and save to a folder (not the iPhoto Library folder), then import into iPhoto?
To get back to iPhoto 5, you would really need a backup of the iPhoto 5 Library folder that has not been updated to version 6 in order to keep your metadata such as comments and keywords, and also all your albums, slideshows, books.
You can go back to 5 if you do not have a version 5 backup, but you will have to reimport your photos and lose your metadata.
    Steps:
    To reinstall iPhoto 5
Drag the iPhoto Library folder in the Pictures folder to the desktop and rename it it iPhoto 6 library
Navigate to /Applications and drag iPhoto to the trash
Navigate to /Library/Receipts and drag all iPhoto receipts to the trash
Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences and drag com.apple.iPhoto.plist to the trash.
Insert your iLife 5 CD/DVD and choose to do a custom install. You will have to keep ongoing through the steps of the install before you get to the screen where you can choose a custom install.
    Install iPhoto.
Run Software Update and update iPhoto to the latest version of 5
Put your backup iPhoto 5 library in the Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.
If you do not have a backup iPhoto 5 library:
Open the iPhoto 6 library folder on the desktop
-double click the iPhoto Library folder on the desktop to open it
-the two main folders you will need to import are the Original folder and the Modified folder (only if you want to import the edited images).
-the Originals folder has all your originals photos unedited. the Modified folder has all images that you have edited, rotated, cropped, etc.
-Drag these two folders to the desktop
-If you want to save the edited image, find it in the roll in the Modified folder and drag it into the roll of the same name in the Originals folder. It will replace the originals and now will be the original.
-If you don't care to save any edited images, then don't import the Modified folder into iPhoto or don't bother replacing the edited image with the original image like I just described.
-If you import the Originals folder into iPhoto you will have all your originals in their named rolls.
-If you import the Originals and Modified folders into iPhoto, you will have all of the being in the originals folder in the finder. The roll with the same name as the other will have a _1 appended to it's name (in the finder)
-the roll from the originals will be next to the same roll from the Modified folder within iPhoto. You can then delete any of the images from there if you want.
I know this might sound confusing but it really isn't.
Get back if any of this sounds like something you might want to do.

I just downloaded an iphoto update and when I tried to share my photos was asked for email and password.  I must have typed in the info wrong because I keep getting an error message.   I don't see how to change the info to the correct mistake..

I too added 2nd apple ID when I tried to get Free app from apple store just to get to NONE on the credit card needed. It said it sent confirmation email to my new apple ID email that I have to confirm. Problem is I can not get to the new apple ID email account.  On my ipad it logs into my original email account and I see no where to log into another email account.  If I go to my laptop, the new apple ID I created does not let me log into email where apple said it was sent to.  It did not send to back up email account either.
Can I log into 2 email accounts on my ipad where it says mail at bottom?
Can I have 2 apple ids?
If I created a 2nd apple id to get to NONE on credit card needed, can't I log into it also on another laptop in gmail?
    (won't let me)
If I used my original apple id I created when I got my new ipad, it will not let me get free app without credit card, there is no where it says NONE needed. I am too new to apple to start with credit cards etc until I get use to it.

  • After iPhoto update some photos go black when trying to edit them and am unable to edit those photos

After iPhoto update some photos go black when trying to edit them and am unable to edit those photos. How do I fix this as this is the latest update?

If I hold down the Option key while launching iPhoto, I get the option to start a new library. Do I have to import all my thousands of photos into the new library?
In his original post the poster referenced the following. As to the new Library, see the end.
There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. *Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. *Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. *A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. *A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. *A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *If none of these help*:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Losing Keychains from iPhoto Update

Since the iPhoto update yesterday, when I attempt to click on Mobile Me to upload a gallery, I get prompted to keep my current keychains or update them (nothing new). However, when I click to update them (which I usually do), I lose them ALL and I can no longer access any secure sites, including Mobile Me.
My iMac basically becomes non-functional as far as internet/email/networking/etc. Although, if I re-start my computer, my keychains return but I am once again prompted in iPhoto to update them. If I say no, it will keep asking me.
    Help???

    Andrew:
First quit iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again. If that doesn't jump start your MMe access give the following a try:
    Source: http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/mobileme/index.html#d30jul2008
    Page Title: MobileMe
    Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2008 9:06:25 AM
    Jim Oase
After waiting a day for the rolling restore to happen, I called AppleCare because Apple had sent an email saying my service was back, and it wasn't. I still could send and not receive using Mail.
Here is what fixed it. Go to MobileMe (terrible name) in System Preferences, log out. Then enter a garbage name and password and try to log in. This apparently clears the MobileMe preferences. Then enter your real UserName and PassWord. For me this was lights on.
I am left wondering how long ago I could have had email had I known this preference reset scheme.
Although it's for a Mail problem it will let you flush out the MobileMe preferences and enter your user name and password for a fresh start. See if that will help.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto Update Gliche

I have just downloaded and installed the new Iphoto update, all 1.2gb of it, yet the Mac store still shows it as an update available, even theough the little grey box says that it is already installed.
Support has told me to clear the Updated Folder in the library, which I have done, but the update still shows as available.
Anyone else with the same issue or anyone with a solution ?
    Cheers

    Sounds like another indexing problem.

  • IPhoto update 'paused'

My recent (last week) iPhoto update is 'paused' and will not complete.  I see other users have had the same issue recently.  Being new to Apple, I am not clear on what to do to resolve this.  Is there a task manager in the Apple environment whereby I can stop the update task?  Thanks in advance...

I found this fix for the App Store pause/lock at MacIntouch.com:
    Brian S
Re:"Is Apple hiring stupider coders, or is this just the way software goes, getting more complex and yet less intelligent?"
A few days ago a sign-in to the App Store app failed for me ( as a developer I use several Apple IDs for testing and it had saved one of my testing IDs but needed to do software updates for my primary ID ). My primary Apple ID works for iTunes and signing in via Apple's various web pages, so the failure was surprising. The sheet window sign-in appears and after entering the id/password and pressing enter, the window clocks ( SPOD ) and doesn't return to confirm success or failure.
After a long search and checking the machine (verifying keychain certs and a lot of other stuff), I discovered the following:
The App Store app has a debug menu that may be turned on via:
defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    in Terminal.app.
The 'Reset Application' debug menu option solved my problem. Maybe this will help someone else.
    Might be worth a try.
