Iphoto upgrade problem

I just bought iPhoto '11 for my Mac from Apple online store, and installed it yeasterday around 10 pm, so far it has shown a spinning wheel (no rainbow wheel) after more than 12 hours, I have about 7000 (7k) photos, 20 GB size, what should I do?  I was told do not force it to quit, shall I keep waiting?  How much longer should I wait?  Any suggestion?  Can I force quit it? How to restore the old system, I know I can get photolibrary back from time machine, but not sure what other files to recover?

@TomekP  --  Please read the post carefully
You can restore your iPhoto library from before the upgrade and reinstall iPhoto from the original sourced and update it up to version 9.2.2 --  or you can restore the library and depress teh option and command keys and rebuild it - that should work with 9.3
Reinstalling the previous version will not work unless you RESTORE the previous library as instructed - if you do as instructed it will work

  • IPhoto Upgrade Problem Version 8.1.2 to iPhoto 9 (iLife 11)

    Hello,
I have purchased the iPhoto upgrade from the Mac App Store ($15) and currently have iPhoto version 8.1.2 installed on my computer. I would have thought that the upgrade would have pushed or automatically upgraded my existing iphoto version; however, it just appears to be queued in the Mac App store. When I look in the Mac App Store Purchases tab, I can see the Purchase, but I still have version 8.1.2 installed on my computer. Am I overlooking something? Thanks for the help!
    Philip

Make sure the installer isn't paused in LaunchPad, and/or the App Store

  • IPhoto upgrade problem not completing

I ran IPhoto 11 last night and it came up with a box saying need to upgrade. It showed steps from 1 to 9 and I let it run for more than 12 hours and it was still showing the spinning segmented wheel after completing 100%. I have forced kill it earlier today now it's stuck at 5 of 9 with 98% complete. My version is 9.2 i think and it's running on an iMac. Any help will do also the file size it 47GB on my external hard drive.

I must say, when I read Hassan69's post, it looks just like my problem.  My upgrade is stuck at 94% in process 5 of 9.  However, using "command" + "option" on my keyboard when I launch iPhoto doesn't do anything different.  The upgrade is already rebuilding the database, so forcing the database to rebuild has the same result. Am I missing anything here?

  • Iphoto upgrade problems

I downloaded the new version of iPhoto (v.9.6) for Yosemite (v. 10.10.2 - I'm on an iMac 2010). I aslo downloaded the iPhoto Library Upgrader as advised. When I run the iPhoto Library Upgrader, it says my library will work with the latest version of iPhoto and doesn't need to be upgraded. When I run iPhoto, it says the library needs to be upgraded! It then says it is examining the library, and goes into a hang. Has happened four or five times.

Which version of iPhoto did you upgrade from? The iPhoto Library upgrader is only necessary, if the old iPhoto version was a version if iPhoto7.x.x or earlier. the upgrader does not upgrade the library but prepares older libraries for upgrading.
When I run iPhoto, it says the library needs to be upgraded! It then says it is examining the library, and goes into a hang.
If you install a newer iPhoto version, the iPhoto library will always need to be upgraded.
It then says it is examining the library, and goes into a hang. Has happened four or five times.
How large is your library? A very large library may need hours to upgrade, without any visible progress. Don't interrupt iPhoto during the upgrade by force quitting it. That may corrupt the library beyond repair.
Do you have enough free storage on your drive with the library? The upgrade requires temporarily more storage, that will be released again.

Hard Drive warning when upgrading to Mountain Lion. 2nd try and I was able to upgrade. Software update for IPhoto, had problems restarting. Do I need my hard drive checked

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • Iphoto upgrader has caused a problem, iPhoto will no longer open its library

I had an old dvd of iphoto pictures which I wanted to bring into my current version of iphoto, I downloaded the iphoto upgrader and did as the instructions indicated but it seemed like I was in a loop, when I selected the library from the saved photos, the imac would indicate that I had to download the uopgrader (which I had, this is were it kept looping)  So after several attempts I gave up, but when I treid to open my existing iphoto it came back with the same mesage saying
To open your library with this version of iphoto, it first needs to be prepared.
to prepare the library, use the iphoto library upgrader avaialble from Apple
So now it seems I cant access my existing iphotos ( I cant even tell you what version of iphoto I have as I cannot look at the "About iphoto" as it is greyed out)  My imac is 2 years old.
Any help would be appreciated as I seem to have gotten myself into a hole and have no idea how I got there and more importantly how to get out.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you get when you launch iPhoto?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Problems with iPhoto upgrader on iPhoto 7.1.5. HELP!

I installed and ran the iPhoto upgrader for iPhoto 7 in preparation to install a newer version of iPhoto (9 or later) so that i can get photo album and books printed via iPhoto.  I downloaded a number of available iPhoto 9 upgrades, but none worked even through i had run the upgrader.  I am now stuck with a MacBook (OS X 10.7.5) with a version of iPhoto that won't open (error message: You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto) and also wo';t allow me to install any iPhoto upgrades.  Help!  I have tried to restore iPhoto from time machine, but that hasn't worked, plus trying the original install disk for my laptop hasn't worked, presumably because i have upgraded the OS a few times since i got it (it's a late 2008 dinosaur of a macbook!).  I am worried that now i have lost my photos and will have to pay 50 quid for a iLife disk with no guarantee that it will work.  All i really want to do is un-install the upgrader and return iPhoto to it's original 7.1.5 state.  Is that possible? Also how can i check that my photos are still stored somewhere without being able to open iPhoto? Please help! Thank you.

You only need to run the upgrader if you have iPhoto 9.5.  It's not needed for other iPhoto 9 versions, i.e. 9.0 thru 9.4.3.
You might be able to downgrade that library by following this iPhoto LIbrary Manager tutorial: Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto

  • All my photos in the iphoto have disappeared, not sure if this related to any iphoto upgrade or other issue, tried to find the photos through the finder (JPG or photo) but failed, can you help me to get back my photos please?

All my photos in the iphoto have disappeared, not sure if this related to any iphoto upgrade or other issue, tried to find the photos through the finder (JPG or photo) but failed, can you help me to get back my photos please?

Help us to help you: There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance. (And no, more exclamation marks do not get help faster or make your issue seem urgent. They just make it seem like you have a stuck key )

  • Iphoto will not launch after lion and iPhoto upgrade

"your iPhoto library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable
Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup.
This is the message i get after paying apple3 0 dollars for the lion upgrade and 14.99 iphoto upgrade. Can you now help fix?? you have my money. Now give me back my computer

Do as the instructions tell you.
Hold down the Option and Command keys and launch iPhoto at the same time.
You'll see a dialog box open.
    Select:   Repair Database
    Or, restore from a backup.

  • IPhoto upgrade for IOS5 to get Photostream on your my MacBook.

What's up with iPhoto upgrade for IOS5 to get Photostream on your my MacBook. The reviews are horror stories. Thoughts? Any fixes since these issues started? ~ Byrne51

    Welcome to Discussions.
One of the problems with upgrading is that you still have an older machine but if it's working well it could continue to do so for some years. However, newer software may not be able to be used on the older machine.
You haven't indicated which model of eMac which can also make a difference to our advice.
The suggestion to increase the RAM is certainly a priority for more satisfactory performance.
System updates may provide you with new features you will find useful. Check Apple's website for details.
If you need more disk storage the best option is to get a firewire drive with as large a capacity as you can afford. If formatted to Apple's specs you can put an OS on this and use it as the startup. Only the oldest eMacs might have a problem coping with Leopard. It works well on mine. Then you are effectively using your Emac's processing, display and cd-dvd drive mainly. The external drive can be used with a later Mac if subsequently you decide to upgrade.
    Hope these thoughts are useful.

  • Yosemite and iphoto upgrade missing photo library

While painfully transferring one user acount to another mac, my external hard drive died with all back-ups.  After I sucessfully and with great trevail migrated the account , I found that I had neglected to upgrade both computers to Yosemite.  When I did so, along, I believe, with iphoto, my photos all disappeared.  It opens up to the screen with the yellow sticky note.  When I try to access the library under Finder, Photos, it still opens up the to menu with the yellow sticky note, and no photos (oddly enough, the trash in iphot is filled with the many many photos that I have deleted and never gotten rid of).
    Help....

Have a look at this discussion - iPhoto Upgrade and Library Issue
It may be the same problem.
Select your iPhoto Library in the Finder. By default the iPhoto Library is in the Pictures folder. Ctrl-click or right click the iPhoto Library. From the contextual menu that will pop up select "Show Package Contents". Are there folders "Masters" and "Old Masters"? If there is a folder "Old Masters" the upgrade of your iPhoto library has failed.
Copy both folders - Masters and Old Masters to a drive, where you have enough space. The Old Masters folder will probably contain most of your missing photos. We do not know any method right now, how to fix a library, that has been corrupted in this way. If you cannot restore from an earlier backup, since your backup drive failed,
    backup the corrupted library,
create a new, empty iPhoto library,
then try to recreate the iPhoto library by importing the photos from Old Masters into a new iPhoto library. also, import any photos from Masters.
And send feedback to Apple. This bug needs attention urgently.  http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html

  • IPhoto Upgrader not working??

I had a white Macbook from 2008 that I am clearing off and getting rid of. I cleared everything onto a WD My Passport Hard Drive and am trying to get everything on to my new Macbook Pro that runs the latest version of iPhoto. I downloaded the iPhoto Upgrader and every time I choose the library that needs upgrading, it says, "Your library can now be upgraded by the current version of iPhoto. Do you want to launch iPhoto?" and when I click "launch" it tries to open the latest version of iPhoto and it still won't open.
    Anybody know what to do??

That is your problem  --  at least part of it  - maybe all of it
For the iPhoto library to work correctly it must be on a drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled)
    Not case sensative

  • IPhoto upgrade doesn't allow me to search backups

really disliking the iPhoto upgrade that doesn't allow me to search backups for specific pictures anymore. my time machine won't even let me import my entire library from a few months ago when i press restore. if i would have known iPhoto does not store files in a reachable way such as a master folder with .jpg and .mov files i never would have been using iPhoto for my personal photos.

That was removed about 5 years ago.
my time machine won't even let me import my entire library from a few months ago when i press restore.
That's a Time Machine problem and best asked on the Using Mac OS X forum for whatever version of the OS you have.
if i would have known iPhoto does not store files in a reachable way such as a master folder with .jpg and .mov files i never would have been using iPhoto for my personal photos.
That's exactly how it stores them so I have no idea why you say that.
