IPhoto Usage Tips, Tricks, suggestions??

I was hoping someone could help me by answering a couple basic iPhoto usage questions I have...
First, is there a way in which I can automatically create an iPhoto "Album" from each of my iPhoto "Events, without having at manually drag each one over? Perhaps a script or Automator Workflow that someone could refer me to??
Second, what is the best way to find duplicate (and/or similar) images in iPhoto (duplicate no meaning references to the same file as it exists in the Finder, rather two copies of exactly the same image)? The tricky part is the I know many of the identical duplicate will often have completely different names from each other, so the tool I need would have to be able to identify duplicates by more than just the file name.
Also, I wanted to know what some of you think about the advantages/disadvantages of enabling iPhoto's preference setting to "copy items to the iPhoto Library" (which when unchecked, I assume would reference the images in its existing locations as opposed to copying them)...I like the idea of referencing the images in their existing location for a variety of reasons (such as not having to copy the 200GB of images that I want in iPhoto; also keeping the images in their current 'non-packaged' folder structure format so that I can access them images using other image organization tools such as Adobe Lightroom; etc...). Are there any drawbacks to references as opposed to copying? Will I still be able to use iTunes pointed at my iPhoto Library (containing referenced images only) to sync albums/galleries to my iPhone/Apple TV? What about Tivo Desktop...will this still work via this method?
Finally, what about storing the iPhoto Library on in a different folder/drive than the default ~/Pictures folder? Can I store the iPhoto Library on one of the three available (non-OS) internal hard drives in my MacPro and still expect iPhoto to find this library and iTunes/Apple TV/TiVo to sync from this library as well?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...These are the key issues that I have right now with iPhoto, and if someone could help me find the answers to these questions, I would be sincerely grateful!
Thanks!

Well there's some meaty questions there.
First, is there a way in which I can automatically create an iPhoto "Album" from each of my iPhoto "Events, without having at manually drag each one over? Perhaps a script or Automator Workflow that someone could refer me to?
Why duplicate an Event as an Album? How about a Smart Album based on Date? File -> new Smart Album

As to using Referenced versus a Managed Library:
The pitfalls of a Referenced Library:
1. Import and deleting pics are more complex procedures
2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them
3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
Why would you use two photo organisers, such as iPhoto and Lightroom? iPhoto is a consumer application, Lightroom (and Aperture) are Pro apps. If you do use both, remember they both have to reference the files.
Other than that, yes, a referenced library will work the same way as a Managed one. The issues will all occur when you migrate to another machine or hard disk.
Yes, and it will work the same way:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
My final 2 cents: Make a choice of Photo Organiser. Do you shoot RAW? Then consider Aperture or Lightroom. If you're shooting jpeg, then you'll likely be happy with iPhoto. One advantage with Aperture is that it, at least, knows iPhoto exists.

2.Click on the stop watch in the upper left of the timeline
3.Drag the top arrow within the timeline to indicate how long you want the animation to talk place (e.g., 10 seconds)

  • Elgato EyeTV Hybrid tips & tricks

I didnt know where else to put this so im posting this here. I'm looking for any tips & tricks or whatever you want to call it with the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid for Mac. Reason this being is because im using an Xbox 360 with this and i feel my experience could be much better, with quality and responce time.
I know all the Converting/Encoding whichever is all being done by the iMac so i suppose id have to live with the response time but is there anything i can do to the settings for quality? Anything you want to suggest please do, id be happy to try it and give feedback.
    Thanks

There is no interface with the Eyetv to the Dish receiver that would permit channels to return. Your Eyetv is only as good as the channel the reciever is set to. In other words, your Eyetv will retrieve any channels that are not regulated by a reciever to interpolate them, ie: "Over the air" and/or a "straight cable connection" without a set top box. Whether it be a Dish network or a local cable company, any circumstance of a set top box will not be compatible with Eyetv for the lack of it's abilty to change the channels on that box. The only circumstance I have ever seen is when a viewing/recording device has an IR blaster that transmits the channel selection to that set top box and changes the channels much the same as you would with a remote. That being said, there is still the issue of that particular device knowing the IR codes to your particular box.
Your Eyetv is good for "Over the Air" and/or a straight Cable coax connection only. Sorry.

  • LOTS of photos -- tips or suggestions?

I am soon going to have over 20,000 pics in iphoto 5, does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to handle that many photos? I just had to add them all back since iphoto dumped them all from its library (not sure why).
    Thanks.

The main tip I will give you is to not keep that many photos in one library.
Break it up into Years and it will be easy to do the suggestion I gave you in your other post.
You can create a new library by launching iPhoto with the Option key and following the prompts. You also use the Option key at launch to switch between the libraries.
Using the add to library command, navigate to the Year folder to import all images from that year.
Launch iPhoto with the Option key to create a new library and then add the next year folder.
You can break up the library any way you want but doing it by Years will be sure to keep having duplicates in the libraries.
Oh, and don't forget, you can manage your libraries with either of these two programs (there may be others)
    iPhoto Library Manager
    iPhoto Library Manager documentation
this page will show you everything you can do with iPhoto Library Manager.

  • Overclocking the i7 in Tips & Tricks

Harm Millaard, the hardware guru from the PrPro forum has just posted a LINK to his overclocking the i7 guide, in the Tips & Tricks sub-forum.
If you're considering doing this, you might want to give it a read.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

My i7 rig is with a socket 1156 board, an Asus P7P55D mobo, and an 860 CPU. I know the Corsair DDR3 memory @ its stock 1.65v simply doesn't run at 1600mhz like it says on its box - 1333mhz seems to be its stability wall.
I upgraded my Q6600 and Asus P5B deluxe rig because so many people said to never consider overclocking on an editing rig. Was that over-cautious advice?

  • Business Workplace - "Tips & Tricks"

I've just noticed a very, very cool feature in Business Workplace. When you go to your Inbox, and you hover over "Tips & Tricks," something appears, a bit like a Windows tooltip, except far more useful and far less annoying.
Does anyone know how I can get such a feature into an ABAP programme I write myself? It looks like it should be easy - probably something like set a property on an object and watch it happen. But I can't work it out, I think I must be looking in the wrong place...

    Hi Robert,
The Preview Pane utilizes HTML controls. A new item for the "Tips & Tricks" is selected every time you click on a different workitem or deadline message. Function module SIN_WI_PREVIEW_TIPS gets the tip and builds the HTML.

  • Tips & Tricks to manage time to contribute in SCN

    Hi SCN Mates,
The question of managing time to contribute in SCN and be in the top list of contributors is always a challenge, I wonder how other guys are managing it along with project work and personal life.
Through this thread I would like to ask all top contributors to share few tips on how do you manage your time to contribute in SCN and be in top?
I know with dedication and knowledge, at same time everyone will have their office work at priority after family/personal time.
Also contributing for an hour daily is also not possible because you never know whether you get ideas within an hour ;-).
Anyway, share your tips & tricks...
    Thanks,
    Umashanakr

People who become Top Contributors fall into two main categories
Category 1 - There is no need to know anything about SAP at all, but since they are SAP professionals at the end of the day, they know enough to get points. They spend all their time on SCN, Must follow every single member of HCL. Must go to each blog and like it ,and write "thank you". They  read every question posted on the forum, whether they know anything about it or not, and reply to it. They have excellent google skills, so they google the answer and post links in reply to every question. They could vary their approach by becoming active in Coffee Corner as well. Soon they will have million points and be a top contributor.
Unfortunately, this method is not for those who have family/work/other commitments which are more important.
Category 2 - These people have built up a tremendous amount of knowledge after years of practising in the business. They are genuine experts. They do not come into SCN with the sheer intent of accumulating points. However, when they do come in, and see fit to respond to a post, it is invariably the correct answer or  very helpful, that they get marked accordingly. These people post thoughtful blogs or comments or documents or discussions, which are useful and appreciated by the community and they get marked accordingly. Sooner or later, without really trying, but by simply practising their profession, these people accumulate enough points to become Top Contributors.
These people do not have a set strategy intended to accumulate points, but they do have a set strategy of being good and knowledgeable at their job. They manage their work/life balance in a way that suits them to achive this goal.
I am afraid there is no fixed way to achieve lofty goals with little or no effort.
There is a 3rd category, who are pretty decent in their knowledge and sporadically answer questions when they feel like, and who randomly get points for their responses, and they will never become top contributors, however, they are not too worried about it, and they do get to spend time with their families/other interests. This is a technicality that need not detain us.
    YMMV
    Hope this helps.

  • ECC 6.0 Upgrade - Tips, Tricks, Lessons Learned needed (Esp. in SD, LO, MM)

    Greetings Experts!
I am searching for information and/or documentation in regards to tips, tricks, lessons learned, and "steps to take" while upgrading to ECC 6.0 (from 4.6c, to be specific).
We have the install guides, and I'm currently looking at the ERP Solution browser to discern the differences between the two releases... however, we're in need of information on specific actions or things to look for after the technical upgrade. I am having trouble finding any SAP documentation of this kind.
Links to SAP documentation are highly desired. Personal documentation in this regard would be highly appreciated as well! My e-mail address is in my profile.
    Many, many thanks in advance!

  • Updated to iTunes 11.1 and many of my podcasts were, as far as I can tell, deleted from my account. 'This American Life' in particular, cannot be redownloaded for free and I want the unlistened podcasts I accrued to come back! Any tips or suggestions?

Updated to iTunes 11.1 and many of my podcasts were, as far as I can tell, deleted from my account. 'This American Life' in particular, cannot be redownloaded for free and I want the unlistened podcasts I accrued to come back! I'm also afraid that if I sync my iPod now, the podcasts that I have on there but have been removed from the computer, will also be removed from the iPod.
    Any tips or suggestions?

What really cheeses me off here is that Apple isn't allowing users enough customization.  With each update of iTunes (and the OS and iOS) we're forced to give up something that worked well for the way we want to use the app and make do with fewer (and lamer) options.  If Apple keeps this up, they're going to start losing customers fast.  I mean if this isn't fixed soon, I'm pretty sure I'm going to give up on iTunes, and then I'll probably go ahead and get a Galaxy when I need to replace my iPhone.
What I don't understand about how they won't let users delete the list of available podcasts now is why?  How is this making it a better program?  I can understand that not all users are capable enough to right-click on a feed and select "Show all available episodes", so I can see why they want the complete list to be the default (and, surprise, it already was).  But to not give users the option to delete that list?  It's inconsiderate because it makes navigating feeds with a large back catalogue really frustrating.  I'm flabbergasted that no one at Apple considered all the podcast feeds that keep hundreds of episodes available when they removed this feature.  It smacks of rank incompetence.
What improvement were they trying to make here anyway?  There was nothing wrong to my mind about how podcasts were managed in previous versions.  Whatever improvement they were trying to make here, they should have realized that many users would at least want the option to keep things the way they were.
And reverting to a previous version is no solution.  I can't sync my iPhone with the new iOS without this update, and (while I do have some issues--specifically how you can't play podcasts in the Music app anymore) I do like the new iOS.

    Hi ,
I have got 5c. THis thing gets restarted itself randomly. does anyone else faces this problem? any tips or suggestions?

It sounds as if the display is failing. This is supported by your saying the screenshot looks normal. The screenshot is created by using the actual video feed for the display, so if it is looking normal and the screen is not, I suspect the screen.
You could try restoring the device as new and see if it comes back, but you are probably better of making a Genius Bar appointment at the nearest Apple Store to have the hardware checked. Good luck.

  • General Usage Tips and Tricks

    Hi All -
I'm new to this forum... and just got my DROID 2.  Yes I was living in the dark ages and it is the first smartphone I've ever had.  With that being said.... I'm OVERWHELMED!  There is so much to do and so many things it can do.  I was able to find a manual online... and read through it.  I was able to get through navigating the phone somewhat.
However, for those of you out there that are experienced with your phones.... any tips and or tricks for using the DROID 2?
The main things I want to do are:
    1) Check email (both work and personal) - only need to do this as needed.
    2) Google Search
    3) Make Calls
    4) Facebook
    5) Extend battery life
I'm sure the phone does more than I ever need to do... and maybe I'm missing out on some cool things.
    Any input is appreciated.
    Thanks everyone!
