  • Blurred images when using photoshop to edit I-photo

    Hi
I set my iphoto up so photoshop is the editor of choice. but whenever i go to edit an image, even with it being crystal clear, it blurs when opened in photoshop.
I cannot find this problem online at all, can anyone help?

But what size are you setting them at?
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
If you're using Raw then in the iPhoto Preferences -> Advanced, elect to use Raw with your External editor
You cannot save a Raw. The work you do must be output to a new file, in a new format (jepg, tiff, whatever). However, as the External Editor is making this new file iPhoto has no knowledge of its existence. Therefore you *must save it to the desktop and then import it back to iPhoto as a new file*.
This means that you will have your Original Raw and the processed version in iPhoto but they will not be recognised as version and original. iPhoto will see them as two separate shots.

  • How can I pull photos from iphoto into Photoshop to edit them?

Uploaded some photos on my new Apple Mini (I'm converting from Windows to Mac) and they uploaded fine - but then I couldn't see how to get them from iphoto into Photoshop to edit them. Surely they must automatically save but if so, where??

Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • HT2506 I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any Preview updates in the works. I find there is a problem with Preview crashing, or taking a very long time to "catch up" (spinning beachball of death) while I'm editing.

I use Preview to edit photos, and would like to know if there are any updates to this program in the works. It seems Apple is constantly updating its software, except for Preview. I find it crashes all too often, and also takes forever to "catch up" with me (as in spinning beachball of death) when I'm editing a lrge amount of photos. Yes, I know I should be using Photoshop or somesuch, but it's just too **** confusing, and I don't have the time to figure it out. Thanks!!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Using Photoshop as edit application fails to open image

I have Photoshop CS selected as my edit application. PS opens to a browse screen and the selected image in iPhoto fails to appear for edit. With the new lib structure I cannot search for the individual image. I can export the mage and edit but then I am forced to import the edited file.
    Ideas? Thanks.

    Mercury Graphics Engine
The Mercury Graphics Engine (MGE) represents features that use video card processor, or GPU, acceleration. In Photoshop CS6, this new engine delivers near-instant results when editing with key tools such as Liquify, Warp, Lighting Effects, and the Oil Paint filter. The new MGE delivers unprecedented responsiveness for a fluid feel as you work.

  • Accessing photos from hard drive using photoshop starter edition 3.2

Hi, I have recently bought an external hard drive and have now copied all my photos from my c drive to my external hard drive. I would now like to access my photos directly from the external hard drive as well as download photos from my camera directly onto the external hard drive, can someone please help? I am currently using Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition 3.2 and running Microsoft XP. I read somewhere that I will need to change something in the Organizer, is this possible for Adobe Starter Edition 3.2?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Christina Fletcher

    Hi Christina,
The only thing you will encounter in doing is you might have to repeat
the process of bringing the images back into PSA SE because unlike the
Elements Family, it does not have the ability to move things.
I would suggest trying two things:
    1. Begin by moving the images and then (AFTER YOU MOVE THE IMAGES) click
on File>Reconnect all files. The problem with this method is you have
reconnect EACH file separately. Not a very pleasant option.
    2. (Recommended) If you are not worried about tagging as much, then
simply click on Get Photos>From Folder and then pick the External Drive.
It might force you to pick a certain folder, so I do recommend keeping
them in something like My Picture Ext so that it is easier for you, but
    it will do it.
    Cheers

  • Cropping in iPhoto reverses Photoshop's edit - help

I was helping my father edit his pictures by dragging them from the iPhoto album they were in to Photoshop CS5.
After editing I'd click "Save" and the highest setting "12" for the jpeg. When I'd go back to iPhoto the editing doesnt appear in the thumbnails but it does when I open the images.
The problem is, he has gone through and cropped some and all the editing I did on them is gone.
What is the issue? How do I fix it?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • How can I use photoshop elements with photos

Title says it all.  I would like to use Photoshop Elements to edit my photos--how do I open them in PSE?

Yes your edits will be there if you import the edited version. Yes it will go to the Cloud with the edits. What you read is that edits made in iPhoto and Aperture after the library has been migrated will not be available in Photos. But you could still export from iPhoto/Aperture to the Finder and then import to Photos, like with PSE.

  • IPhoto 6.0.1: editing photos

I have just installed iPhoto 6 and upgraded to 6.0.1.
I am unable to edit photos with this product. Can anyone say why?
I have installed and re-installed; adjusted privileges on my iPhoto libraries; repaired permissions; tried to rebuild the data base and generally followed the lines of advice offered in these pages.
This product does not seem to work as advertised - at least in my hands.
    Any clues?

In addition to Dave's suggestion there's another method that has worked for others. It's discussed in this thread:

  • Using Photoshop to Edit Clips

After working a bit with PExx and PrePro with an eye for production work, it seems obvious that some complementary apps and widgets are handy to accomplish a finished product. I count Photoshop among these. I recently came across a teaser video that introduces the clip editing feature in CS5. I had no idea this was possible.
So now I wonder... is Photoshop a better venue for “tweaking” video whatnots prior to final production rendering in PE or PrePro? For example, I create masks in Photoshop that I reference in PE. Maybe it’s better to import an MOV created in PE into Photoshop and mask the clip directly within, then reverse for final production. Another example might be color & contrast grading, blurring, fine detail manipulation... the list goes on. I am much more familiar with Photoshop than either PE or PrePro, and I’m intrigued by the prospect of using either NLE more or less to snip and composite clips that I’ve edited in Photoshop.
Information on this notion is scarce, and frankly there’s very little in this forum and elsewhere about this capability in Photoshop CS5. Comment, advice and referal from the PE and PrePro illuminati on this matter is welcomed.

Photoshop-Extended has some good, albeit limited Video capabilities. It can only Import and Export some formats/CODEC's. Working in PS-Extended, one is basically doing Rotoscoping, or Frame-by-Frame adjustments, but that is tedious. Here is one such TUTORIAL.
For CC (Color Correction) work, like Color Grading, PrPro, or Adobe After Effects, will be better programs. Here is a TUTORIAL for using After Effects and Photoshop.
Now, I use Photoshop to create Mattes (masks) for use with Effects, like Track Matte Keying.
For more advanced Keying, you might want to see this TUTORIAL on After Effect's RotoBrush.
PrE has some Keying, Track Matte Keying, and some limited CC Effects, but if one is looking into making a profession of CC and Rotoscoping, PrPro, After Effects and Photoshop-Extended would definitely be the way to go. They are all included in the CS 5.5 Production Premium suite, along with Illustrator, and OnLocation, plus Encore, a full-featured authoring app.
    Good luck,

  • Moved iphoto, now can't edit photo

I recently switched jobs and moved from one mac to another.  In preparring to leave my old job, I dragged my iphoto library from my pictures folder on to an external harddrive.  When I arrived at my new job, I dragged the iphotos library to the pictures folder and was ready to boogy.  First problem was an error that said the library had been edited by a later version of iphoto and therefore couldn't be opened.  So I bought the iphoto from ilife 11.  Then it said it needed updatingl so i did.  After that, I could see my thumbnails, but when i double click on a photo, it gives me a triangle with an exclaimation point in it.
I've done the option+command to rebuild, no good.  I've looked for the 'originals' folder to try to relink everything, but i can't find that...
I know dragging and dropping sounds goofy, but it's exactly what i did when i moved my iphoto library from my laptop to the desktop at work and it worked perfectly.  Help!  Thanks!
    Sarah

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IPhoto 9 - Can't Edit photos. Only get black screen

Recently I went to edit some photos I have in iPhoto 9.  When I click on a thumbnail to edit, I get nothing but black.  When I show file, the jpg is there and it opens fine in preview. I tried the iPhoto Library Manager. Made a new library and then tried importing the photos from the existing library into the new one.  It said they were "Unreadable Files" Even though they are all jpgs.
Any ideas? I've rebuilt, etc with CNTRL OPTION.
Is this possibly because of software update to LION? I'm running 10.7.5 and have the latest updates.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
