IPhoto Version Issue

Have been using iPhoto 08, and am now suddenly receiving this error message:
You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.
This message started showing up about the same time i started syncing my iphone. I don't have another version of iPhoto on my imac. The message is inaccurate, as I have not made any changes to my existing photo library.
Anyone else have this problem? I would prefer to keep my existing version of iphoto.

This message can be triggered by database corruption.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • IPhoto library unable to be read. Version issue?

I had recently purchased a brand new mac computer and was using the ethernet option to transfer information from my old mac computer to this new one. The information transferred successfully however it left my old mac with a version problem in iPhoto. When I launch iPhoto now in my old mac I get a message saying that there has been a change to my photo library and that I need to upgrade my iPhoto version in order for the library and all the photos to be viewed.
What would be my best option at this point without purchasing a new iPhoto application? My old mac uses the Tiger operating system and the new mac uses the snow leopard system.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
It sounds like you opened the Library on the old Mac with the New Version from the new Machine somewhere along the way.
There really isn't much to do. An early version of iPhoto cannot open a later Library.
You could try Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function.

  • IPhoto migration.  version issue

Have migrated my data from another iMac to new iMac..  When I open iPhoto on the new Mac I get a message that my photos are in a newer version of iPhoto and I need to open a new library or quit.  Quit is only option.  Upgraded s'ware and no change?  IPhoto version on old mac is 5.3.2

Then you need to download this

  • IPhoto Version 9.5.1 Not Responding @ Launch

I'm having this issue with iPhoto launching but never fully opening, then needing to force quit.
    iPhoto Version 9.5.1
    OSX 10.9.2
I dont remember the sequence of events exactly however I was saving a video MP4 from my desktop into the library so I could share it in a photostream with a friend.
The MP4 did not finish loading and then iPhoto quit responding.
I force quit iPhoto, and it gave me a message (as best I can remember) do you want to continue saving the MP4, to which I answered no. It has not been reponding at all ever since.
I have repeatedly restarted my iMac with the end results being the same. All other software seems to be working as designed.
Can I answer anymore questions that might help you, help me figure this sucker out?

That was unsuccessful. The same problem happened at the launch of iPhoto. I held the prescribed keys as indicated and after the launch it just kept going in the launching process. And again I got the message "Not Responding"

  • How do I recover all the pictures from the iPhoto version immediately before 9.4.1?

How do I recover all the pictures from the iPhoto version immediately before 9.4.1?  I have a full system backup version from about one month before the switch , and mistakenly thought the new iPhoto would default to all my pictues as they were.  I also have backups made in Time Machine.

Have you tried what's shown here?  I suspect this will solve your issue.

  • IPhoto Importing Issues

Every time I try to import photos from my sd card through iPhoto, the imported photos are corrupt (blank, lines, crazy colors). I can copy the photos direct from the sd card and import through Image Capture. I've tried rebuilding the library, creating a new one. I've tried importing the photos after they've been added to the computer through another method. I've been able to load the photos on to other computers and sites. I'm using OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2 and iPhoto version 9.6. How can I resolve?

Lots of folks have reported issues with Raw on 10.10. Have you applied the latest camera raw update? That's fixed it for some folks. Others have revert to an earlier version using the method mentioned in this thread:
RAW files suddenly show up as "not supported" (Aperture 3.5.1, OS X 10.10)

    Hi,
I had a different solution in mind but since Safari, Mail, and iPhoto were all having issues, you made the wise  decision to reinstall the OS.
I was going to recommend that you drag the preference files of the apps in question to your desktop. The apps will create a new preference file. What could have happened over time was that the preference files could have got corrupted over time.
In the future, if you want to try this. Go to your home folder > Library > Preferences and delete the Mail, Safari, and iPhoto preferences. (just drag them onto the desktop) It's called:
    com.apple.mail.plist
    com.apple.iphoto.plist
    com.apple.safari.plist

  • IPhoto update issue July 2012

i tried to update iphoto and it got stuck at 99%... for hours..

Back at this abgain.  The version of iPhoto I have on the newer Mac Book is 9.3, and was last updated (automatically) on 13 JUN 2012.
The older version, operating on OS 10.6.8, is version 9.0, and was last autoupdated on 26 MAY 2012.
To recap, both versions of iPhoto are displaying issues.  I rovided screen shots last night from the older version, 9.0.
Following is a series of screen shots to demonstrate what appears when attempting to open iPhoto on the OS LION system, iPhoto version (9.3).
The timeout wheel spins indefinately until I select "QUIT" and close the window.  Nothing happens, unless I select upgrade.  If I do that, a series of status bar windows appear.  Sequencing fairly quickly through 1-9 steps.  I estimate it takes about 60 seconds for the status bars to cycle through "Steps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and then on STEP 9, this window appears.
The timeout wheel continues indefinately--until you "FORCE QUIT" the process.
If you attempt to open iPhoto again, the update status bars appear again, and cycle through all 1-8 steps, terminating at the identical window as above.  The cycle is unbreakable.
Does this help?  Any additional instructions?
    DM

  • I cannot download photos from my digital camera to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to successfully do this up to 4 days ago but not yesterday. My camera/device is recognized in the Source List but photos won't download for me to import to library.

I cannot download photos from my digital camera (via a cable) to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to do this successfully up til 4 days ago but not yesterday (Dec. 25th). My camera/device is recognized in the Source List, but when it tries to download the photos, all I get are the words "Loading Photos" in the area where the thumbnail pictures usually display. The little "gear" symbol next to the words but it just goes round and round. Nothing ever downloads, and instead of showing me how many pictures there are to import it just says "No photos". So therefore I cannot import the photos to my library since they won't even download.
I was getting an error message a few days ago that my Iphoto library was getting full, so I emptied my trash in both Iphoto and on my computer. I had this same problem back in October and emptying the trash and getting rid of some photos did help (can I really be using that much storage space for the pictures?). But it didn't help this time.
Any suggestions as to what to do to solve the problem? I would try taking the SD card out and inserting that into the slot on the computer to see if I could load pictures that way; but the last time I did that, they wouldn't load. Not sure if I lost pics from the disc or not.
    Thank you,
    Novice50

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • How can i view and upload photos from an older version of iPhoto which are on an external hard drive to my new iMac?  i currently have copied the application version 9.4.2. on my lacie backup and want to view and upload this to my new iPhoto version 9.5.1

our old iMac died suddenly, but i had backed up the iPhoto application to a lacie external hard drive.   however, when i try to open it in my new iMac which is installed with version 9.5.1 and is upgraded to maverick, it comes up with “cannot be opened, to open you must upgrade to latest version” and then makes you press the quit button.
the iPhoto version on the external hard drive is iPhoto 9.4.2 which i upgraded on 29/11/12 onto our old iMac (early 2007 version)
my new iMac is running on version OSX 10.9.1
i have looked at buying  iphoto library manager and have emailed them about whether this would work, but any advice would be gratefully received as i cannot be the only person that has had this problem but i cannot find any answers that work.
    thanks
    Julie

YOu can rebuild with Library Manager and this does not require a purchase:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I cannot open iPhoto after upgrading latest apple updates.  Getting a message latest iPhoto version is not available in the US

    MacBook pro, 8GB,  OSX Yosemite
I cannot open iPhoto after latest apple upgrade.  Getting message latest iPhoto version is not available in the US.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • I have a Mac Book Pro with iPhoto version 9.5.1 Can I delete more that one photo at a time?  Thanks!!

I have Mac Book Pro with iPhoto version 9.5.1.  Is there a way to delete more than one photo at a time?  Thanks!!!

    Hi LarryJackie,
When you go into Photos (or an Album or Event), click on the first photo you want to delete. If you want to delete a whole selection of photos in a row, hold down the Shift key, and then click on the last photo in the section you want to delete. All of the photos will be selected. Then click on Photos in the top menu and click on Move to Trash.
If you want to select photos that are not in a row, then click on the first photo, then hold down the Command key, then click on other photos you want to select. Keep the Command key held down until you have selected all of the photos you want. Then click on Photos in the top menu and then Move to Trash.
    Cheers,

How do I transfer all photos from my Imac, IPhoto version 7.1.5, to another Imac, IPhoto version 9.2, but keep the two sets of photos separate

You need to clarify what you are asking.
An iphoto installation has two major parts: 1. The application or program - that's the software and 2. The Library - that's where your actual pictures are.
    So when you say:
I want to keep using the old Iphoto program on the new Imac.  There is already an IPhoto program on the new Imac but I do not want to add or delete from that one.
It sounds like you want to move the application and not the Library. Most folks want to move the Library, and it makes no sense to have two versions of the application on your mac.

Select your My Book Studio for Mac icon on your Desktop and type Command + i to bring up its Info pane.  Check the formatting.  It should look like this:
If it's not formatted as such you'll need to reformat it after backing up what's on there now.
