Iphoto very slow since upgrade Snow Leopard

i aprreciate your help, here.
Since we've upgraded our MacBook to Snow Leopard, iphoto '09 is very very slow. it takes up to 45 sec to go from one photo to another if I use the adjustement tools or crop.
What do we do?

I really don't understand why you're surprised. The idea that software makers somehow cripple existing apps to make users upgrade is common. It's also silly.
Let me give you a simple example. Today I paid €900 to repair the clutch on a Renault Espace that has 36k on the clock. Should I suppose this is a plan by Renault to get me to buy a new car? If it is, it's a remarkably stupid plan, because I can pretty much guarantee you that then next car I buy will not be a Renault. So too with Software. If you really think that Apple are trying to trick you or force you to upgrade, wouldn't you be stupid to do that? Wouldn't a sensible person instead by software by some other maker, rather than the one you think is cheating you? In fact, you'd really have to be very stupid to continue to use the software of a company that you believe is cheating you.
So, assuming you're not a stupid person, and assuming Apple are also not stupid, how would it make sense for Apple to trick you into upgrading?
Plus, of course, the fact that I ran 08 on 10.6 with no issues and so do most people.
And, you know, I am quite familiar with this forum, and yes I see the reports of performance issue. Of course, I actually read the posts and learn that there are many possible reasons for the issue. It's a symptom with several possible causes.
Have you tried creating a library in a new user account? What's the performance like on that?

Is there a fix for Mail running very slow since upgrade to 10.8
Mail is running extremely slow since upgrade. Open New Message window (or auto link to new email from another applicatin), click on outgoing email address field and begin to type. Takes 15-30 secods per letter in the address to populate the field. Click SEND and it takes up to 2 minutes to send... another 3 minutes to show up in SENT mailbox. Sometimes completely chokes and have to Force Quit. Have already run Disk Utility (Permissions and Directory Corruption Diagnostics and Repair), have Rebuilt the Mailboxes, have reinstalled OS 10.8 from Recovery partition. IT IS STILL CHOKING, HANGING, AND NOT FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. Any Ideas ??? Please help!
I have my 'Check for New Messages' set to 'Manually'. This is a problem with setting up a New Message to send out. I did go into settings under Composing Tab and unchecked "Automatically Complete Addresses". This has resolved the issue of the spinning beachball when attempting to enter an email address into the "To:" field. So, it is running at normal speed now, but I suspect there s a bug related to that setting... something that is causing a very slow background search through existing address book directory for recognizable email addresses to 'auto fill' in that field. I have already trashed preferences for both Mail and Address Book and that did not resolve the issue, so it must be something else. I can live without Auto Complete. Thanks for the input!

Can't send more than 1 photo from iPhoto to Mail since upgraded to Leopard
Hi there,
I'm using an older version of iPhoto (4.0.3). We recently upgraded to Leopard, and ever since then, we haven't been able to use the Email icon in iPhoto to attach photos in Mail. It prepares to send all the photos, but only attaches one to a message, and then I get an error message saying, "Mail got an error: Can't get paragraph 8 of content of outgoing message id (a long number). Invalid index."
Does anybody have any idea as to what's going on here? It's very frustrating!!!

With the current software combination you are using, there IS actually this need -- your post (and others) here give evidence that it does not work otherwise. Your choices would seem to be -- in descending order of complexity -- a) revert to OS X 10.4, b) install a newer version of iPhoto, or c) take the extra step of exporting.
Alternatively, have you tried preparing a new message first, then just dragging the selected images directly from iPhoto to your message?
Um, you seem to be contradicting yourself, so I have no idea what you're talking about.
As I already said, I DON'T NEED to take the extra step of exporting the photos into a folder, as I AM selecting and dragging the images directly from iPhoto into Mail. -
Jdeveloper very slow on OSX Snow Leopard

I've installed jdev on ubuntu, windows and on osx snow leopard... the slowest one is the mac... very resource demanding compared to ubuntu for instance... and jdev runs faster on a virtual windows machine (virtualbox) under osx than in the osx itself... on ubuntu jdev run really slick... is this normal to be slow on osx ?

Running very slow since upgrade, please look at ETRE Check
So basically the issue is my computer has really been slow since my upgrade to 10.10. I had read some of the forums and because my Etre Check was showing a lot of problem system launch agents, I decided to reinstall the OS via the Wifi recovery mode. The first Etre check I ran post reinstall showed that all of these were resolved, but since then the Etre check has began to accumulate more and more failures. Any idea what might be causing this. I would really appreciated any feedback greatly. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to use iPhoto 9 on an upgraded Snow Leopard
I would like to use iLife 09 on the computer with this Snow Leopard version.

Yes, it required upgrading and changed my library so now I am forced to use iLife 11 which I do not like. I have that version on a lap top and disliked it. Now I just have to get used to the new version however using the desktop and a magic mouse helps with the scrolling somewhat. I may find something other than iPhoto for pictures in the future. -
Internet conection very slow after upgrading to Leopard

after installing Leopard, my internet connection is often very slow. Opening a new website needs a much longer time as before upgading. Sometimes it works as fast as before and sometimes it just can not find the server.
Have you recognized similiar problems after upgrading and have any hints or is it only related to the internet connection/provider?

Applications/Safari and Control Click on the Safari icon and scroll to Get Info, make sure the Open Using Rosetta box is not checked. You can also go to Safari/Preferences and Reset safari, after Importing your bookmarks to reinstall later.
Did you use Migration from a PPC Mac to your Intel? How are the other Apps running?

10.5.8 & Page loading...now VERY slow since upgrade
I'm continuing to fight a very slow pageload problem since upgrading to 5.8. It appears to be a DNS like problem. Ping times to both my router and known servers on the Internet are fine, 72ms for pings across a set of routers, that traceroute fine. However, all pages on my browsers, whether Safari or Firefox are now much slower than before the upgrade. I now routinely wait 15 to 20 seconds to load pages that take Vista only a few seconds to load. To be clear, my Vista computers are fine. No load problems at all. Everything else seems to be normal.
As a test, I ran the Speakeasy Speed test on my connection, download of 1335 kbps, 745 kbps up. So the bandwidth seems to be there, per usual. It's the same on my Vista machines.
I looked on the board, and couldn't find any similar issues. Anyone seen this? Is a reinstall the only way back? Or is this something that is DNS oriented? I show my router xxx.xxx.xxx.1 as my DNS pointer in Airport.
Other ideas:
- Related to IPV6?
-Related to the AirPort Extreme card or it's 1.4.16.2 firmware?
- Firewall at this point is allowing all incoming connections.
Thanks in advance...Same type problem. Starting two weeks ago, it is taking between 15 and 20 seconds to load any page, even my google homepage. Same with Safari and Firefox. Reset browser, cleaned out all cookies and cache, dumped and reloaded browser. Speed test shows connection speed to 5.8 mbps on a nominal 6mbps connection, so that's not the problem. Disconnected power and reset modem twice.

Aperture and iPhoto Running Slow Since Upgrading to Yosemite
IPhoto and Aperture is now running so slow it is nearly unusable. It has an especially slow startup. It was running just fine at first. I had imported some Canon 5D (original) RAW files, and it has been grinding ever since. I have tried deleting OS preferences and creating a new library. Neither suggestion helped the situation. This happened just a couple of days after the Yosemite update. I have added all of the latest patches. I am running it on a very recent MacBook pro.
I rely on this software heavily, so if it is not fixed soon, I will have to switch to Lightroom.

ChrisAs kq6up mentioned you should try to repair your iPhoto/Aperture library. You can do this by holding down the option-key and the command-key simultaneously as you are launching iPhoto/Aperture. You will get some options to try out.
If that doesn't help, I would recommend using iPhoto Library Manager from Fat Cat Software that looks for duplicates and old thumbnails from previous versions of iPhoto. It should be able to fix Aperture libraries as well. I managed to clean up nearly 40 GB off from my 110 GB library using it and with prog99 tip iPhoto runs blazingly fast again.

My Arch is very slow after upgrading to kernel 3.0

I would like you to help me to solve a problem: as i wrote in object my system has became very slow after upgrading to kernel 3.0: system booting, applications launch, general responses of my tasks....what's the problem? However the kernel26-lts looks slower than 3.0 so i returned to the last one...iìm going to see dmesg outputs...i've to remove "quiet" from the grub.cfg

Since installing Snow Leopard and then Lion on my Intel-based iMac two weeks ago, my iTunes program seems to open at will whenever the computer is on. It often begins playing music, as well. What is causing this and how do I make it stop?
There are ways to minimize, mitigate, and help avoid a lot of problems.
Bootable backups.
Zeroing a drive twice before using, and format it with SL DVD Apple Disk Utility for sure.
Even a clean install should import old apps without having to reauthorize.
If you must do an upgrade, do it from the SL DVD, after repairing the drive and be sure to use the SL version of Alsoft Disk Warrior (4.2).
Wait six months before jumping on a new OS.
10% is still too many. Yes, it is more sensitive to RAM and hard drive errors, doesn't like some controllers; most ext hdd cases; and enough software to make for test-only status. And it only IDs some known incompatible applications, drivers, extensions, etc and does not remove even those always in best manner.
Plus, there are problems with the new Rosetta and the cache files it now uses. So some apps and plug-ins will cause more trouble. Not all are ready. Good reason to hold off for the months it takes.
Other devices act different as far as on/off behavior.
(Migrating from G5s to Mac Pro can cause all kinds of problems, weird behavior, sluggish system, and why anyone that went down that road was strongly recommended to NOT use Migration Assistant for any of their applications, and to ONLY do clean/fresh installs of any apps. If you skipped that day, didn't read the Guide to M.A., or didn't want to do fresh installs then, your system could have been on borrowed time. If you did do clean install of applications, great.
Installing SL can result in a corrupt directory - I think and it "seems" to be happening, but no real proof, just gut feeling and instinct (underlying file system problem? weak sectors that pre-existed waiting to happen?).
Remember all the "there just aren't a lot of 64-bit drivers" for Vista and XP? it's come home to roost.
... my guess is not enough incense and offerings. To hop into TimeMachine and SuperDuper backup images and pull the 1TB for another day (week, month, year). -
Why can't I open InDesign Docs in Bridge since Installing Snow Leopard?
I have CS3 Indesign. I have recently installed Snow Leopard. Since doing that I am unable to open Indesign files within Bridge. I get a very strange message that says 'missing required parameter 'from' for event open. What does that mean and can I fix it. If I drag my document to my desktop, most of the time it opens but sometimes it does not. I have to go up to the file menu and open from there. Is it a Bridge problem or is it an InDesign problem. Very annoying! Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?
Also since installing Snow Leopard, I am unable to open multiple files in Photoshop. Once again I am doing this from Bridge.
Any information would be most appreciated.

Upgrading Snow Leopard to 10.6.2
I have downloaded from Apple the latest version of Snow leopard 10.6.2.I am trying to upgrade Snow leopard since about a month.. Every time I attempt it the Sound disappears. I am really fedup. Local Apple support desk is just useless. They have absolutely no idea what is happening. I called Apple care and they suggested that I move some files in ~/Library on to the desktop and try..Nothing has happened. All I am doing is wasting my time. I have to revert back to 10.6 by using the CD I bought. Apple care support must have some really trained staff if they want to make a dent in the Indian market.. which unfortunately is not the case..
Can anyone help me in this problem?? Thanks in anticipationCreate a new User go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" (make it an admin acct) and test the apps in this new account, if they work the problem is isolated to your User and not systemwide.
If the issue is limited to your user account try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your apps functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to ~(yourHome)/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting.
Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If the issue is systemwide then, you may be able to repair this with the The 10.6.2 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
