Iphoto video clips vanished

I installed ilife08 without any problems. When I ran imovie for the first time it imported all my video clips as I hoped it would.
After a little while playing around with the new programs I ran a software update which updated iphoto to version 7.0.1. Now when I go back into imovie there is no sign of any of the iphoto video clips. I can't find any way of getting imovie to rescan the iphoto folder. When I go to the import option I find that the iphoto folder is greyed out.
Any ideas?

ok an update....
re-importing the clips into iphoto did work. However to get imovie to put them back into its library I have to rename the files so that they seem different to the original. If I attempt to import the clips back into iphoto using the original file names imovie continues to ignore them.
This has to be something that has occured since the 7.0.1 iphoto update. Any new clip I add into iphoto since the update is added to imovie as expected.
The moral of this story is when installing ilife08 make sure you update iphoto to version 7.0.1 BEFORE running imovie for the first time!
Hope this helps someone.....now I need a drink!

Try forcing iPhoto to load the Library on the External Hard drive by launching it while holding down the Option key. Choose the Library on the External HD, and quit iPhoto, see if iMovie can see the Library with the iPhoto Videos contained inside.

  • IMovie 09 with incorrect dates from iPhoto video clips ?

Hello. I just noticed that the majority of dates in my iMovie 09 for my iPhoto video clips all show the date for 1903. I need to go back and change the date in too many video clips to count. Is there an easier way to go back to the orginal dates? Thank you.

NeddySeagoon - wondering if you found the answer to this?
I too have iPhoto videos showing up in iMovie fine, but the dates are wrong in iMovie (correct in iPhoto).
Also, I have updated video titles in iPhoto, but those titles are not showing up consistently in iMovie. Perhaps related issue, I'm not sure.
Any idea if this could be a permissions issue? (Video is stored on an external drive). Or something else?
    Thanks!

  • How to remove the iPhoto video clips from the iMovie Event Library

    Hi,
The new iMovie took a couple of hours to index my iPhoto video clips. That didn't bother me so much as I have 2564 video clips in my iPhoto library.
However, when I launch iMovie, it now takes approximately 30 minutes to be ready for use.
Is there anyway to de-register the iPhoto video clips in iMovie?
I'll switch to only importing the clips I want to work with as iMovie does not appear to be written to handle a large quantity of video clips efficiently (for the G5 cpu anyway).
Perhaps if when selecting "iPhoto Videos" in the Event Library, it would first show the video clips divided into Events as with the new iPhoto approach. Would surely be quicker to scroll through. Scrolling through the video clips is far to slow.
iMovie won't even playback the video clips without pausing every couple of seconds. My iPhoto library lives on my internal drive.

  • IPhoto video clips does not work in iMovie

I just installed Leopard and ilife '08 into my MAC.
The video clips from my iPhoto library are not shown properly in iMovie. I'm only able to hear the sound of the clip but unable to watch it. when i skim through the clip, i don't see anything on the viewer, i just hear skimming through the sound. when i tried to play the clip, just the sound began to play. even the thumbnail does not show a picture of the clip, its just grey.
    Can someone help me please???

Format: Apple OpenDML JPEG, 640 x 480, Millions 16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Mono, 44.100 kHz
As post in your other topic, this looks like it should be compatible.
I've captured video from my built-in isight camera in my MacBook. when i was trying to skim through or play the video clip in iMovie, the clip didn't appear in the side viewer. I am able to hear the voice of the clip and even see the thumbnail clearly but not in the viewer.
This sounds like part of your original problem. Suggest you try importing the same files to an alternative platform and/or possibly an alternative user account to see if the problem is "global" on your system and "limited" to your system only. Suspect you may have a bad install or corrupted application that may simply be generating unusable "thumbnails" here. You basically need to isolate the problem to see if it is in OS and/or application. For instance, did you update to iMovie v7.1 before or after installing Leopard or better yet, have you installed all of the updates?

  • How to make iPhoto video clips appear in iMovie 11 under "iPhoto Videos"

I use photo camera to shoot both stills and videos these days. I would like to just see all my clips in iMovie.
I tried to use Import but it is very painful to use as iMovie PRETENDS it knows nothing about iPhoto photo library. So monkying around and drugging clips out of iPhoto "bundle" is huge hustle.
Is there is a streamline way?
Apple historically make hard to do, I even had to use iMovie HD and Handbreak to to all these conversion, but I just want things to work: I want to make a cool clip to share from my iPhoto library clips.
Is there is a easy way to do it?

Normally, any compatible clips in iPhoto show up in iMovie in the Events Library under the category "iPhoto Videos". You will see this item at the top of the list in the Events Library. Clicking on it will reveal thumbnails for each clip in the Events Browser (to the right of the listing). Are you not seeing this?
If this is not the issue, you could try converting the iPhoto clips by using a program such as MPEG Streamclip. If recognised by Streamclip, convert the clips to either H.264 or AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) and import the converted file into iMovie. Both these formats work well with iMovie - AIC is in fact the codec that iMovie converts AVCHD clips to in order to edit efficiently at the individual frame level.
MPEG Streamclip is a free program downloadable here:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    John
PS. Regarding the conversion, I notice that you've already tried iMovie HD and Handbrake - sorry! Perhaps MPEG Streamclip will do this more efficiently.

  • IPhoto video clip problem.

After upgrading iPhoto and upgrading to Mavericks my video clips will not play.  This never was a problem before the upgrade.  Any suggestions?

If I stll have video on my card then I will try to load it again,
Do all videos from the new camera have the same problem? Then it could also be a problem of the card. If you have a different card, you could try to record another video for testing and check, if that will give better results.
Here is a list of videos, that are supposed to be supported by Aperture. Since iPhoto and Aperture share the same library format, I expect that iPhoto will also support them:
Aperture 3: About Video and Audio formats in Aperture
The list is not complete. Other cameras may be supported, but have a look at the codecs and formats. You will not be able to open arbitrary formats.  ANd AVCHD video is not directly supported, see:
Using AVCHD video with iPhoto '11

Are your video tracks selected? Are they locked? It sounds like you're simply performing an audio only edit. Are you new to FCP or an experienced user?

  • IMovie is annoying the heck out of me - mostly iPhoto videos acting up and

i recently got the 27 inch iMac i7 - and I migrated most of my photos and videos from a time machine backup. I haven't had any problems until recently (this was about three weeks ago), I notice when I am working on a project (with mostly iPhoto video clips and clips from a Flip Mino, that if I add scenes in between others, it gets temperamental and those scenes start acting up and freezing while the audio continues and then it gets locked on that frame.
I have deleted the preference file and rebuilt it two or three times, it works for a while, now it does weird stuff like not letting me mute clips.
I did have a theme set and automatic transitions and that seemed to have something to do with that, so I removed them, deleted the preference file, now it is letting me do most stuff, but it is just really really weird. I am also up to date.
anyone have any ideas? I thought at first it was something to do with the iPhoto clips and then having moved from a time machine backup, but then why would it work all the sudden when it rebuilds the preferences.
Very aggravating and not what I expect from apple.
    Any suggestions?

It is in Library - Preferences, then it should be com.apple.iMovie8.plist, to be safe, I just moved the file to the desktop. Close iMovie first, then move it to the desktop or delete it (it won't hurt anything), then open iMovie again and it will rebuild your preference files. It takes a couple minutes, and then it searches for your iPhoto videos again.
It's work a few times for me, it seems to happen only after I make changes to a clip or audio, then I have to close it and reopen the program it and it works fine, which leads me to believe the actually iPhoto videos are not corrupted. It's iMovie goofing up.
Hopefully this is something an update will take care of.

  • How do I export a video clip to iMovie from iPhoto?

My video clips and photos were imported from my iPhone 5 to iPhoto on my macbook pro.  Using iMovie, I can import the photos from iPhoto but am unable to import the video clips from iPhoto into iMovie.
Is there a way that this can be done?

How are you trying to import from iPhoto to iMovie? The movies in your iPhoto Library should appear in iMovie in the Event Library in the section for your system drive as event "iPhoto Videos".
Here the videos from your iPhoto library should be shown, that you last opened in iPhoto; for example with my version of iMovie (9.0.8) the event library looks like this:
Don't you see the videos there? What is your iPhoto version and iMovie version?
As a workaround to import to iMovie you can always select the video in iPhoto and use "File > Reveal in Finder" to show the movie file and then import to iMovie using the Finder. Caution: When importing from the iPhoto library using the Finder, be sure to import to iMovie using the option "Copy files", not "Move files". Otherwise they will vanish from your iPhoto library.

  • Can anyone help me figure why there is a popping sound when I move from an iphoto still image to a new video clip?  The sound has been removed from the video clips and there is another soundtrack underneath it all.  Help?

My current project is like many I have created in the past.  I have removed the sound from my video clips and laid another soundtrack under the entire project.  Now, when I add an iphoto still image to the project, when it goes back into video there is a popping sound.  I've never had this happen in the past and have made many projects in the past just like this one.  Any way to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks so much for your help.
