Iphoto videos not recognized

It appears that iMovie does not recognize videos in my iPhoto libraries that are on my external hard drive.
I am wanting to transfer all my videos to DVD now.... but over time my hard drive has been maxed out, so iPhoto libraries have been taken off year by year.  So, even now, I have all years of photos on an external drive to just leave enough space for all my videos and 2011 photos to remain on my hard drive.
Is it that my iPhoto library MUST be on my hard drive for iMovie to recognize?
I tried exporting my iPhoto movies from iPhoto to a folder on my hard drive and then import into iMovie, but it said the file type was not recognized or something along that sort.  I had gone to iMovie help and it indicated I needed to have Quicktime 7 installed... I have Quicktime 10 installed....
It isn't format because it is the same camera creating the movies in previous years and my 2011 iPhoto library.

I am having a similar problem.  I recently downloaded iLife 11 and now imovie says that my movies in iphoto are not compatible and they are not showing in imovie.  I'm using the same camera that I've used for my previous movies and it has always worked before.
I can import them one by one, but it's a long process.  I thought that the newer version was supposed to make things easier.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Issue with recent "iPhoto Videos" not showing up in "Event Manager"

It has been awhile since I used iMovie '11 on my MacBook Pro with Retina Display.  I believe the last time I used it was in September or October of last year (2012) as most of my editing I have been doing on the iMovie iOS app as it has been sufficient for the majority of my needs.  I was running low on storage on my iPhone this past weekend and so transferred off all my videos to iPhoto.
I had need to edit some of the clips I transferred off and imported in iPhoto yesterday and so went to iMovie on the Mac to do so.  It had to process the new files and then it upgraded the thumbnails to high resolution images and it was then I noticed that it did not recognize any movies after September of 2012 in the "iPhoto Videos" section of the "Event Manager."  I was able to go into iPhoto and locate the more current videos to insure they were there and that they worked (I was worried at first they did not transfer off and just deleted or were corrupt in some manner).  I have tried restarting iMovie, rebooting the Mac, etc. and nothing seems to work.  Oddly enough, I can manually import the iPhoto files and iMovie finds them that way and they do work when manually imported.  For whatever reason they just do not appear in the "iPhoto Videos" section of the "Event Manager."  I am hoping someone here has an idea on why the Mac seemingly decided to stop recognizing videos after a certain date (September 2012 as is the case here) and how I can go about resolving the issue.

    Hi Folks,
Your iPhoto access in other programs such as iMovie depend on ~/library/preferences/com.apple.iApps.plist. Whenever you add new videos to iPhoto and close iPhoto, this file gets updated. If corrupted, pull the plist, open iPhoto and a new movie and then quit. See if iMovie picks it up.
As long as you have the latest dot release, I believe you should be fine in compatibility.

I had this problem and this fixed it. The problem started for me right after I upgraded iPhoto 9.4.1 to 9.4.2. I had to quit both apps, remove the plist file, launch iPhoto, then quit iPhoto, then launch iMovie... then iMovie asked about thumnails for videos and the iPhoto videos were back in iMovie.

  • SD Card videos not recognized

    This is what's happening.
Note, I was able to retrieve pictures AND videos on my SD card to my Macbook Pro before using iPhoto.
    After format,
    1. SD Card's video's are not recognized in Image Capture
    2. Videos don't show up in iPhoto.
    3. Videos are not recognized in Finder.
    4. HOWEVER, I can import the videos through iMovie (as a new project which is annoying).
    5. Also I know there are videos in the SD card because I can preview them on my camera.
    I have 2011 Macbook Pro 13'' base model 10.8.2

No, the camera does not see the card either. The camera shop experts tried their programs and could not make any progress as they could also never get the computer to acknowledge there is a card there. They are trying to find someone that can take the card apart to see if they can retrieve the data.

  • New ipod video not recognized by my computer at all

i have an ipod mini and itunes on my windows xp computer. i just bought the new ipod video that it is not recognized by my computer at all. i plug it in and the entire computer freezes. if i plug in my mini everything works fine.
i have tried updating/uninstalling my new ipod video. i am worried that if i uninstall itunes that i will lose my purchased music.
does anyone have any suggestions as to what i should do? does anyone have the same problem as me? i really want to start using my new ipod help please.

I assume you have installed the iPod driver, before connecting the 5G iPod. It is possible the device driver for the mini is different, and thus confusing your computer. The iPod driver is on the CD that came with your 5G iPod (iPod with Video)

  • Most recently uploaded iphoto videos not showing up in imovie

when i try to use iphoto videos in my imovie project, the most recently uploaded videos do not show up.
this has happened to me before, and i got around the issue by importing the original video files (through finder) into imovie. the clips that weren't showing up eventually did show up, long after i needed them.
so, here i am again, trying to edit recently uploaded clips that aren't showing up. i tried closing iphoto and imovie, then opening them again. no luck. has anyone else had this probleml? why won't the most recently uploaded videos show up for days after they've been uploaded? i could import the files through finder, like i have in the past, but that takes up extra hard drive space, and takes way too long. i was under the impression that the ilife apps are supposed to just work with each other... intuitively and such
everything is up to date. here's my specs:
    MacBook Pro - 13-inch, mid 2010
    OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)
    iPhoto '11 - version 9.4.2 (710.42)
    iMovie '11 - version 9.0.8 (1778)
the videos were recorded on an iphone 5

Usually any videos in iPhoto appear in iMovie '09 in the item "iPhoto Videos" at the top of the listing in the iMovie Events browser. Clicking on this item (heading) reveals the video thumbnails to the right of the Events listing. However, I've noticed that my old 3gp videos from an earlier mobile phone don't show up in the Events, whereas some other formats do (for example, avi).
MPEG Streamclip will convert 3gp files to a suitable format for import to iMovie. I'm not sure if it will handle 3g2. In MPEG Streamclip, navigate to your movie and open it, or simply drag it into the workspace. Now export it as a QuickTime movie (.mov) in the format AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) or H.264. The default settings for these formats should be OK. Both these formats work well with iMovie. I just tested a 3gp movie, exported from MPEG Streamclip as AIC - this worked perfectly with iMovie.
To import in iMovie go to File>Import - Movies, then navigate to your movie.
You can download the free MPEG Streamclip here:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
PS After posting this, I realised that you can also export as AIC or H.264 from QuickTime 7.6.6 (although I do have the pro version - not sure if you need that). In QT go to File>Export and select Movie to QuickTime Movie then choose Options and select the format.

  • Iphoto is not recognizing my iPad as a device to import pictures

my iPad is connected to my macbook pro, but it is not recognizing my iPad as a "device" to be able to import pictures/videos.

Is the device recognized in iTunes when you connect it with the USB cable?

  • My iphoto is not recognizing my sd card

I have a macBook Pro and I have been downloading my pictures directly from my SD card to my computer for about 2 years now. For the past few weeks I have been trying to download my pictures and the computer is not recognizing that I am inserting my sd card at all. The iphoto icon usually opens up on its own once the card has been put in, but now nothing. I've opened iphoto then tried to put he card in, but still nothing. I don't see the card anywhere on the computer at all. Any ideas?

Does it mount to the finder? Does Image capture see it?
What you need to do is find a way to get th ephoto soff and then use your camera's format command to reformat the SD card
In the future a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • Recent iphoto videos not showing

In iMovie, under the file "iPhoto videos" only videos up to the end of last year are showing, despite there being a lot of video imported after this. I have checked iPhoto and everything is still there but not showing on iMovie, PLEASE HELP

    Hi
Anyone else have this problem or know how to force iMovie to rebuild the iPhoto video event library?
iMovie can not do this - BUT iPhoto - AND IT TAKES HOURS !
    • Close all application - eventually re-start Mac
    • Keep alt + cmd keys down and now start iPhoto (and keep them down during up-start)
    • Now You get a set of possibly actions to take - SELECT ALL
AND KEEP IN MIND that it might take half the day or more - Just let Your Mac be and it will reach finish eventually.

  • IPhoto videos not showing up in iMovie

I researched this topic in a couple of previous discussions and don't seem to find a solution for my situation. I have iMovie 09 and iPhoto 11. I have lots of videos in iPhoto that I shot with iPhone 4 this year, but none of them are showing up in iMovie. iMovie says "updating iPhoto library" every once in a while when I open up iMovie, but no movies show up under iPhoto view. Anyone knows what the solution could be?

  • Nikon D90 RAW (NEF) files imported via iPhoto are not recognized

Would appreciate your help.  Just got an iMac.  OS X 10.6.7.   Installed Aperture 3.1.2.  I shoot RAW+JPEGs.  Imported both files fine to iPhoto '11 from my old PC.  When Aperture then imported an Event from iPhoto, I  still see two versions of each shot, but Aperture calls them both JPEG.  On one version the metadata is complete, on the second some is missing (e.g., Exposure Mode, Lens).  Both are shown as 12.2 MP, no matter what.  Can't do any editing this way!  Any thoughts on what might be going on?  Many thanks!    --Bob

I just pickup a D300 and unfortunately Aperture nor iPhoto will not import the picture in the RAW format. Do you know if the RAW format will be updated in the new OS release that is to be announced?
I also contacted Nikon about the Capture NX program that came with the camera and Nikon told me that they are working with Apple to resolve the issues with there program as well.
It would be nice if the Camera venders would work with Apple before introduction to make sure the software is available to support the hardware they introduce..

  • IPhoto 08 not recognizing smart playlists

Been trying to make a slideshow and play from my Christmas playlist (Smart Album of Christmas Genre music) and iPhoto 08 either can't find the music or just doesn't play it. If I pick an individual song it seems to work. And hypothetically, if I did get it to work, can you shuffle the order of the songs played?
I'm also trying to figure out the advantage to Front Row over just playing a slideshow from iPhoto.

    elenting:
In a quick test slideshow I was able to select a Smart Album and use it in a slideshow. However, you can't randomize the photos that way. If you click on an album and then on the play button at the bottom of the window you can set your play and music settings and one of the settings is to randomize the slides. If you save your settings that albums will always have those slideshow settings.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto 5 not recognizing previolsy imported folders

this is only happening with some camera imports mainly from several months in a row, and is not happening on recent imports. the files are located in the standard iphoto finder directory file standard. (/Volumes/beta/iPhoto Library/2007/19/imageName.jpg) i can find the folders in the library but iPhoto will not recognize them in the iPhoto library window. the files open in photoshop so they are not corrupt. when i try and re-import them i get this error message:
    unreadable files: 1
the following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type to the files may not contain valid data.
i have dumped the iphoto.plist file several times to no avail.

It sounds like the database has been damaged. This article has details on rebuilding or, if necessary, recreating a v5 Library:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107947
iPhoto will not import pics that are in the active iPhoto Library Folder - a sensible precaution against duplication.

  • IPhoto 9.2: already imported video not recognized

    Hello,
I've recently updated to iPhoto 9.2, with the previous versions I usually import photos and videos from my iPhone.
I usually connected it with the cable and importing photos and videos when prompted by iPhoto.
Previous versions of iPhoto correctly recognized already imported photos and videos and had them hidden.
After the upgrade to 9.2 it only recognizes imported photos but shows all the video in the iPhone as to be imported.
I thought about reimporting all the videos in a new event but I have a LOT of videos and I woudl prefer not to waste time and space doing so.
Did anyone experienced this? any hints on how to let iphoto recognize these videos?

    Unfortunately not:(
    But I have some news:
I tried to re-import ALL the videos into a new event. Then the video disappeared from the import screen.
But then I had duplicate videos: i tried deleting the newly imported videos and they showed up again in the import screen.
It seems like iPhoto cannot flag the videos as "already imported" if it doesn't find the videos in the library. But the very same videos ARE in the library: I can even search for them in the integrated search engine and they do show up.
jhgruber2 any success in sorting out this mess?

  • 30 GB Ipod Video not recognized by either Windows or Itunes

    Hi,
I purchased a new 30 GB iPod Video (5th generation) today to replace my old iPod photo. It's been charging for a few hours, but when I plug it into the computer there is hardly any recognition. Windows will make the "you plugged in a USB" noise but that's it. The iPod will not go into "DO NOT DISCONNECT" mode, nor will iTunes recognize the iPod.
iTunes is updated, and I tried many of the tips on the pages here. I've also tried to reset it by holding the menu and enter buttons, and it reset, but there was no recognition. I even tried toggling the hold switch back and forth a few times and I got noting.
I'm seriously perplexed, so any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Adam

  • IPod video not recognized by iTunes after bad disconnect

I recently disconnected my iPod without ejecting it first, (disk mode is enabled), and I had done it a few times before without a problem, so I figured why not. But this time it didn't work out. All of my music, videos etc are seemingly erased from the iPod, and only one thing remains - the few notes files (song lyrics) that I had on it. The iPod is no longer recognized in iTunes.. but I suppose windows recognizes it, except it seems to treat it just as a mass storage device or something. I ran the diagnostics test here:

I can't restore it because it doesn't show up in iTunes, and I've tried all the support suggestions on the main page. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Ok, since my last post I messed around a bit more. I found that dragging the F drive that the iPod was in from windows explorer to iTunes that iTunes recognized it, but said it was corrupted. So I tried to restore it, but I got error 1418. So I reset my computer, tried restoring again, and it worked. I thought I had it figured out but iTunes says its still corrupted. I figure this is something I'm certainly going to have to send to apple to have fixed?
