IPhoto videos seem to hang iMovie for 10-15 minutes

When I first launch iMovie and click into the iPhoto Videos in the Events Library the app hangs for around ten minutes. After that it seems to work normally. Non-iPhoto videos do not cause this problem. Any ideas?

  • Incorrect dates on iPhoto video when accessed by iMovie '09??

    Hi,
I have a few videos in iPhoto. All have the correct time and date.
iMovie '09 has access to these, but is showing the incorrect date on some of them (even though iPhoto is showing the correct date). The date is the same - 31 December 1903.
It has been like this since I first used iMovie '09.
    Can anybody help?
    Cheers.
BTW, how do I contact Apple support about something like this? I can't find any e-mail support.
    Message was edited by: NeddySeagoon

NeddySeagoon - wondering if you found the answer to this?
I too have iPhoto videos showing up in iMovie fine, but the dates are wrong in iMovie (correct in iPhoto).
Also, I have updated video titles in iPhoto, but those titles are not showing up consistently in iMovie. Perhaps related issue, I'm not sure.
Any idea if this could be a permissions issue? (Video is stored on an external drive). Or something else?
    Thanks!

  • Can i move iPhoto videos to events in iMovie ?

Is it ok to create a new event in iMovie and drag iphoto videos into it from the iphoto videos list in the imovie event browser, and then delete the videos in iphoto via the Trash) ?
    Thanks in advance

No. That would cause you to lose the videos.
When you use videos in iMovie from the iPhoto section of the Event browser, it is referencing the copy in iPhoto.

Look in Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and see if you have any runaway processes using a lot of %CPU.
I would also strongly recommend running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode. If it reports errors you can Google them or post them here.

  • New iPhoto Videos stopped appearing in iMovie (and media Browser too)

I only recently discovered the usefulness of viewing iPhoto videos in iMovie, simplifying the process to editing my videos.
However recently my videos have stopped appearing. I am using Leopard 10.5.6 and the videos are captured using a Powershot SD750 camera into an AVI format. up until the 12/12 the videos appeared fine, and I am sure that I haven't changed anything. The iPhoto library is stored on a NAS drive. Which does seem to lose connection on a regular basis, causing me to need to choose the library in iPhoto again.
When I launch iMovie it used to ask about loading the Iphoto videos though I have not seen this dialogue recently.
I also notive that in the media browser iDVD or web upload these particular videos are not shown.
I would be grateful for any help...
    Thanks,
    Richard

Suddenly today, this is working fine, not sure why, as I had rebooted the machine several times to try and resolve...
If anyine has any ideas as to why, I would appreciate it. When I opened iMovie today I saw the dialogue that had been missing:

And when it was complete the missing videos were shown.

  • How to make iPhoto video clips appear in iMovie 11 under "iPhoto Videos"

I use photo camera to shoot both stills and videos these days. I would like to just see all my clips in iMovie.
I tried to use Import but it is very painful to use as iMovie PRETENDS it knows nothing about iPhoto photo library. So monkying around and drugging clips out of iPhoto "bundle" is huge hustle.
Is there is a streamline way?
Apple historically make hard to do, I even had to use iMovie HD and Handbreak to to all these conversion, but I just want things to work: I want to make a cool clip to share from my iPhoto library clips.
Is there is a easy way to do it?

Normally, any compatible clips in iPhoto show up in iMovie in the Events Library under the category "iPhoto Videos". You will see this item at the top of the list in the Events Library. Clicking on it will reveal thumbnails for each clip in the Events Browser (to the right of the listing). Are you not seeing this?
If this is not the issue, you could try converting the iPhoto clips by using a program such as MPEG Streamclip. If recognised by Streamclip, convert the clips to either H.264 or AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) and import the converted file into iMovie. Both these formats work well with iMovie - AIC is in fact the codec that iMovie converts AVCHD clips to in order to edit efficiently at the individual frame level.
MPEG Streamclip is a free program downloadable here:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    John
PS. Regarding the conversion, I notice that you've already tried iMovie HD and Handbrake - sorry! Perhaps MPEG Streamclip will do this more efficiently.

  • How to remove the iPhoto video clips from the iMovie Event Library

    Hi,
The new iMovie took a couple of hours to index my iPhoto video clips. That didn't bother me so much as I have 2564 video clips in my iPhoto library.
However, when I launch iMovie, it now takes approximately 30 minutes to be ready for use.
Is there anyway to de-register the iPhoto video clips in iMovie?
I'll switch to only importing the clips I want to work with as iMovie does not appear to be written to handle a large quantity of video clips efficiently (for the G5 cpu anyway).
Perhaps if when selecting "iPhoto Videos" in the Event Library, it would first show the video clips divided into Events as with the new iPhoto approach. Would surely be quicker to scroll through. Scrolling through the video clips is far to slow.
iMovie won't even playback the video clips without pausing every couple of seconds. My iPhoto library lives on my internal drive.
    Regards, Tony.

  • Videos not showing in iMovie for iPad

    Hey all
I just downloaded a bunch of videos from my camcorder to my PC... Then proceeded to put those vids on my new iPad.  I'm trying to edit tthe videos in iMovie but they are not showing up.  I already did the locations services so that is not it.  Does anybody know what needs to be done?

    Hi
iMovie needs iPhoto and other components in iLife bundle to address their respective libraries. if they point to a newer one - iMovie will not find the old material.
    So close all
Open iPhoto and select the right library - open
Now open iMovie and let it up-date thumbnails photos
Does it work better now ?
    Yours Bengt W

  • IPhoto Videos (iPhone backup) in iMovie 09

They display as clips in the bottom right hand window but do not behave like normal event clips. i.e. Split event before selected clip is greyed out. Help!

I have been struggling with the same issue (I have iLife 09 + 10.6.1). I spent a few hours with the Apple support to figure out the issue. Here is the cause of this problem, in my case:
In iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced, Importing: the default is to "Copy items to the iPhoto Library". I have unchecked this option, which means I don't want to copy my files into iphoto library. After upgrade to Snow Leopard, any videos imported into iphoto without copying don't get listed in iMovie.
Apple support now has accepted the bug (they reproduced it on their own machines). Of course, I don't know what that means. We may see a bug fix in the future.

  • Converting a .mkv video to open in iMovie for editing.

I have a video with the .mkv format.
    The video details are;
    720p.HDTV.x264.mkv
    codec H264 MPEG 4
    which has a resolution of 1280 x 720
I have little experience with video though would like to edit this in iMovie and think it needs to be converted first.
Have both iMovie HD (used a little)  and iMovie v7.1.1 (which I have never used).
    1. Which of iMovie's video format would be the best choice or most suitable for this video ?
here they are as a reminder.
    http://www.mac-videoconverter.com/imovie/imovie-supported-video-formats.html
From doing some reading I believe Kigo Video converter is good but its output format names don't match the terminology used by iMovie.
From the Kigo application. I've posted an image of some of the most likely choices to convert the video.
    2. Would the last one, Customised MP4 Movie (*.mp4) be the most suitable format to convert to, for iMovie?
    3. Would it matter if I used iMovie HD? I know it is very old but all I want to do with this video is simply cut out content to make a shorter/smaller condensed video. Fairly straight forward edits.
Please say if I have anything wrong with the above ideas and so look forward to any answers.
    Thanks.

Try converting it to .mov, if that's possible. .avi was originally a Window format, and iMovie might not like it

  • Why Does My Email all of a sudden Hang up for 1-2 minutes?

Just recently, my email hangs up (the spinning color wheel) for one to two minutes whenever I move around to different mailboxes (inbox, sent, etc.). It really never happened before but it does now. I have a CPU activity monitor and whenever this happens, mail accounts for 100% of my cpu activity. Something is going on. When I view "force quit" it looks like mail is NOT Responding but if I wait, it sorts itself out and everything works until it happens again. I went through repair disk permissions, check disk, and tech tool deluxe but it still happens.
Any one have suggestions as to why this happened? I have rebooted several times just to be sure something hadn't created the problem.
Happy new year and thanks for any help.

Recently I have been having the same problem. Let us know if you fix it.

  • After watching a music video or a home movie for a few minutes in my ipad, when i go back to home screen the colors look lighter and weird for some seconds, is that normal? Thanks

IT has happened to me like three times, i use my ipad all day literally and it gets kind of hot, i have tried to take a screen shot to show it but the last time it happened(thethirth time) i was shocked, i wanted this product for so long and if this is a big problem i would be very dissapointed, please help!

Your iPad should not get "kind of hot", but since that is subjective, what is hot to you may not be hot to me. But no matter what, it should not get too hot to hold comfortably. I use my iPad all day long a work and it never gets hot.
If you are getting shocked when you are using the iPad, that doesn't sound normal either. But once again, that is sort of subjective as well.
My suggestion would be to take your iPad to an Apple Store and let an Apple Genius take a look at it just to be sure that there isn't nothing wrong with it. It is still under warranty and if there is a hardware, problem, it can be replaced under the warranty.

  • IPhoto videos not showing up in iMovie

I researched this topic in a couple of previous discussions and don't seem to find a solution for my situation. I have iMovie 09 and iPhoto 11. I have lots of videos in iPhoto that I shot with iPhone 4 this year, but none of them are showing up in iMovie. iMovie says "updating iPhoto library" every once in a while when I open up iMovie, but no movies show up under iPhoto view. Anyone knows what the solution could be?

    Hi Folks,
Your iPhoto access in other programs such as iMovie depend on ~/library/preferences/com.apple.iApps.plist. Whenever you add new videos to iPhoto and close iPhoto, this file gets updated. If corrupted, pull the plist, open iPhoto and a new movie and then quit. See if iMovie picks it up.
As long as you have the latest dot release, I believe you should be fine in compatibility.
    Calbe
I had this problem and this fixed it. The problem started for me right after I upgraded iPhoto 9.4.1 to 9.4.2. I had to quit both apps, remove the plist file, launch iPhoto, then quit iPhoto, then launch iMovie... then iMovie asked about thumnails for videos and the iPhoto videos were back in iMovie.

  • IMovie 11 does not see iPhoto videos

Using iLife 09, iMovie showed my iPhoto videos in the lower pane event browser.
    Upgraded to iLife 11.
iPhoto spent some time converting my library - but it completed; and seems fine.
iMovie, however, no longer shows the iPhoto videos. The text says no video clips match the current selection - but this never changes no matter what is selected.
My previous iMovie projects all still exist; and seem fine. The videos that were added from the event browser in '09 are also still fine within those projects.
I'd appreciate any suggestions for fixing this.

As I always have my preference set to copy items to the iPhoto Library, hopefully I won't see any problems. Once I'm running with iLife '11 (hopefully some time on Monday) I will let you know how things go.
Neville, just to let you know (as promised), everything went very smoothly with my iLife '11 upgrade. All my iPhoto videos showed up in iMovie '11 within the item "iPhoto Videos" in the Events Library. But, as I mentioned earlier, my preferences are set to copy photos to the iPhoto Library.
After installing iLife '11, my first step was to open iPhoto and allow the database to update. Once I was satisfied that iPhoto was running OK, I then opened iMovie and waited for it to do all the upgrading. That went smoothly also, other than a warning about a Centred Title missing from one of my iPhoto Videos and that the video wouldn't play without it. I haven't bothered to track that down yet - the video wasn't identified in the warning message.
I appreciate this doesn't really help you solve your issue, but it does help to confirm that things seem to work OK when the iPhoto preference is set to the option I've selected (copy photos). Note that my iPhoto Library is located on the internal drive. I have a small number of photos that I keep in separate folders outside of the iPhoto Library - mainly stuff I've done for other people that I don't want cluttering up iPhoto (although I realise that these can be hidden in iPhoto).
