IPhoto Viewer window disappeared

My album viewer window disappeared. I have only a single photo showing and when I double click on it, I can bring up the thumbnails, and can edit the photo that shows, but no longer am able to organize many photos at one time. In fact re-organizing is impossible. The disappearance occurred when I double clicked to edit a photo. I don’t know what I did, but I don’t like the results.
I tried re-installing from the iLife disk. Nothing changed.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hmmmmm, well I guess you can try deleting the preference file and see if that helps.

  • New Viewer Window disappears

I am running Yosemite 10.10.1 on my Air. This evening my mail viewer window shrank to two (from three) columns, then to a single message preview (quite wide, I must add), then disappeared. When I select New Viewer Window from the File menu, this very brief window flashes by, then disappears.
I have repaired the disk and permissions to no improvement. The console log reads thus:

  • "Self-View Window" Disappeared in Video Chat

Hello all, I hope you can help me out.
When launching a video chat tonight, I noticed that the self-viewing window that usually sits in the corner has disappeared. I closed the chat, restarted it, and found that the preview of myself that appears before the chat is connected zooms into the video of the person I am chatting with as soon as he connects, disappearing.
I have scoured the 'net looking for any documentation about this, and have found nothing. I've tried quitting iChat, and restarting my MacBook, both to no avail.
While in the video chat, I have ctrl-clicked, cmd-clicked, and hit every key on the keyboard and nothing brings it back. I imagine there is just some simple cmd+ stroke that'll bring it back, but I can't seem to figure it out.
    Anyone know? Thanks in advance...

Do you have any add-ons for iChat, such as Conference Recorder or Chax? They have options for hiding/showing the picture-in-picture.

  • Disappearing Mail viewer window

I just started having a strange problem with Apple Mail application. Mail works fine for a few minutes following a restart, but after a few minutes, the view window disappears. It's not hidden, minimized, and Spaces is not enabled. Mail shows as running, but the window is simply gone. Quiting and restarting Mail does not resolve the problem, nor does relogging in. Only restarting the Mac works, and then only for a few minutes. Anyone else having this problem? I suspect it may be associated with some kind of bizarre .Mac syncing issue.

I think I have a solution. I had a hunch it had something to do with spaces because re-enabling spaces brought back the missing window.
What seems to happen is that the mail window is moved to some space even though spaces is turned off. What seemed to solve it, is deleting all informationen from spaces, i.e. in which space programs should live. In my case mail was assigned to space 3.
I haven't had time to thoroughly test it but everything seems fine for now.
The time machine backup probably only worked because it went back to a state before spaces was enabled for the first time. Or maybe it's altogether a different though similar looking problem that I had.

  • ICal week view window is gone. When selected the window disappears.

Whenever I click on view->week view (or just the "week" button on the bottom row) my ical window disappears. No idea where it is going. If I click on view->day/month the window comes back. However, after it comes back in day or month view, the info sidebar (and button at the bottom to control it, along with the todo and results list buttons beside it) now isn't there.
Any ideas how to fix this? I think it happened when I plugged my laptop into a 1024x768 projector and then changed my mind quickly and unplugged it, but it has been like this for a couple of weeks now through several reboots etc.
This is a macbook pro running tiger.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Bruce,
Often iCal display anomalies can be rectified by refreshing the iCal plist file.
Quit iCal, and drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file which is located in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder to the Desktop. Then log out/in or restart and check iCal for desired behavior.
    ;~)

  • Month View makes window disappear

HI I am wondering about this - I was using iCal and it was working fine, then I cam back to the computer later, and the calendar had disappeared. I quit restarted, repaired permissions, all to no avail.
What I am finding is that I can see my calendars in Day and Week view, but if I change to month view the window disappears. It also does thew same if I press cmd+3.
I only use it on one computer, am not syncing to anything. The only that may have been strange was that I was connected to an LC Projector when i was using it, then I disconnected while it was still open. Afterward it doesn't seem to work. But I have also reset the displays to detect that there is not a second monitor, etc.
    I am using a Powerbook G4 17", 1.67GHz, running 10.4.8, and iCal 2.0.4
I also can't seem to find an updater.
And just to try - how does one reset iCal to begin with, and not lose all calendars - I've been using it for about 3.5 years (and have the next 8 months scheduled out on it) and haven't had trouble until now, and don't want to lose everything.

    Hi,
The window positions are kept in your preferences.
Quit iCal and try moving the com.apple.iCal.plist file in User>Library>Preferences to your Desktop, then re-start iCal. The preference file will be re-created with the default settings, this will not affect the contents of your calendars.
    best wishes

  • The "File Edit View Window Help" menu disappears after opening Adobe Acrobat X Standard

After installing Adobe Acrobat X Standard, when I run the program the "File Edit View Window Help" menu is visible for only a brief second then disappears.  I tried to press F11 or other functions keys to bring it back.  I also installed Adobe Acrobat X Pro which I also have a license for and it would do the exact same thing. Reinstalling the programs did not seem to resolve the problem.  Is there an issue inside the registry?

Thank you for your comment.  However, F9 does not seem to work.
When I press F9, the menu bar appears but the words "File Edit View Window Help" are still missing.
When I press F9 again the menu bar will close.
This is a screen capture before the words "File Edit View Window Help" disappear.  After only about a second they are gone.

  • Since March 2012 my iphoto 11 trash folder says that I have 13,346 photos in the iphoto trash, but there are no thumb nail copies in the viewer window.  I can delete additional photos but clicking on the "empty trash" button.  Any solutions?

Since March 2012 my iphoto 11 trash folder says that I have 13,346 photos in the iphoto trash, but there are no thumb nail copies in the viewer window.  I can delete additional photos but clicking on the "empty trash" button.
My system trash finally emptied when I discovered "trash it!" is not longer supported by the most recent osx.  Then I found an updated version of Onyx that did work with that trash emptying problem.
I have a total of 5,723 photos in my library.  A macdevelopers group recently started suggesting a multi library manager for iphoto to overcome some kind of library quota limitations with iphoto as opposed to "more advanced" photo handling, storing and editing programs.  If I went to a mult library manager for iphoto would that cure the apparent incongruent data retrieval problem in iphoto 11 regarding 13,346 phantom photos that will not securely delete?
Are there any other possible solutions out there?

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Viewer window for Log & Transfer disappeared

    Hello from Bonnie.
I am capturing on P2 cards using the log & transfer.
My viewer window which lets me see the clip & trim it disappeared, & I cannot find it.

    Hello Shane,
This is an old post but I tried to find the the FCP preferences in my library & there weren't any there.
    I am using FCP 6
Still can't get the trim/viewer window in my log and transfer from P2 Cards.
    Thanks for any info.
Also I am trying to render a 45 minute timeline that is a year old & had lots of 3D VFX. I keep getting General Error & it won't let me render.
I have had this problem over the years.
Even if I close all other tabs, I get this.
I really need to render this.
    Anyone know what to do?
    Cheers,

  • Main view window locked on 'one pic at a time'???

My main view window ... somehow I locked it into displaying only one-pic-at-a-time. Can't seem to get back to the library mode, or whatever it might be called, when I can see all the pics in the folder at the same time. I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the view mode. And the scaling control, bottom right, has disappeared (or I've somehow disappeared it).
Any help would be most appreciated...
    Ben

    Thank you Ian,
Aie yie yie. I cycled through the V yesterday ... and somehow never got to that thumbnail view (go figure). But it worked first try this morning. Maybe my Mac was tired yesterday, like me.
    Much appreciated,
    Ben

  • Why can't I create a response to an email from the Viewer window?

Why can't I create a response to an email from the Viewer window?
When I select an email to respond to in the viewer window and click on the respond arrow that appears just under the header, a new response email opens for a split second then disappears.
I have to actually click on and open the email message in its own screen to be able to then click on the respond arrow and succeed in having Mail open a response email that I can edit - one that remains open.
This seems to be a bug that we need to have squashed.

Do I have to connect the iPad to a computer to make this work? Is the fact that I used another email address to set up my Apple ID years ago causing the problem? A friend of mine just got a new iPod and he was able to set up a me.com account. I am feeling rather stupid. Hope someone here can help.

  • When trying to save a bookmark to a specific pre-established folder the window disappears and will not allow me to make a selection. If I hover in the area it will flash on the screen and disappear again, it's annoying please help!

When I attempt to save a new bookmark and want to save it in a folder the window that typically appears just below the address bar will not stay on the screen. It flashes on the screen and as soon as I move my cursor over it, it disappears. It will not allow me to make a selection of any kind. If I randomly hover over the general area the window will flash back in view but disappear again just as quickly. If I then show all my bookmarks, the bookmark was saved and I have to move it to the folder I actually want it in. Just a few extra steps, but still very annoying. Please help!

  • Photos not appearing in view window

I have located all my photos on an external HD....well over a year ago. Never had any issues. Today I log on to do some work, and all of a sudden, where every photo should be in iPhoto viewer is a blank space....around 6500 library pics!
I've re-booted both external and mac several times but to no avail!
When looking at pics through Finder they are all there, but just not showing in iPhoto.
    I've done NOTHING different!
    Please help someone! Thanks! Kieren

    Some things to try:
Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the library. Does iPhoto see it?
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
If these don't work then you may have a corrupted library. Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Customize the Picture-viewing window

Hi, I just purchased iweb and played around with it. It is a really well-made software and I was able to design my first hand-made webpage in a short time.
I just have one question and was wondering if anyone can help me.
When you publish your site to a folder, i am aware that you are not able to use the slideshow palette which comes with .mac.
Instead, you will get a viewing window when you click on a photo on your page.
The viewing page comes with arrows that allows you to go through your gallery and has a white background. Is there anyway to change the backgroud color from white to black??
I know that when you publish your site to a folder, you end up with a folder named "slideshow_assets". The folder contains all the components that are used to display the viewing window.
Please let me know if someone have any idea how to change the background color, Thank you

When I published my site using .Mac homepage, the slideshow did, in fact, have a white background as you point out here. When I upgraded to iPhoto 6 and iWeb, the slideshows now appear with a black background. I don't know that this is the answer ... but you may want to check your version of iPhoto that you are using to view the site. It seems to me the slideshow is dependent upon the viewer on the visitor's computer ...
