IPhoto vs Aperture Photo Books

How does the quality of photo books produced in Aperture compare to those produced in iPhoto? Is there more freedom in layout? Can you adjust text box sizes on a page? What other things make Aperture books better (or worse) than iPhoto?

Hello,
on my experience Aperture´s books could be absolutly customized, so that´s more freedom in layouts.
You can adjust / change text boxes, fonts, sizes, color, and so...
You can create your personal book´s theme, or just only one or more pages within choosed theme, then you can print your book via on-line service, or print as PDF, PDF-X, TIFF (every composed page) or JPEG (same as tiff) to your computer...
but if you choose a theme and/or size, style (hardcover or softcover) but you want to change it for a different order, for example for parents, with another size or hardwork style, you must start creating another book ;<.

  • Aperture photo book vs iPhoto quality

Hi, will photo books printed from Aperture give me better quality than photo books from iPhoto 6? This will help me decide if I should buy Aperture or not.
Is it true that Aperture prints books at 300 dpi and iPHoto at 150 dpi?
Any advantages to printing photo books in Aperture (what does Aperture photo books do that iPhoto doesn't)?
    Thanks,

Recently I uploaded and had printed a hardbound book that had been designed within Aperture. Prior to this, I have used iPhoto to produce 10 such books starting back in 2002. I have always chosen the picture book format because it provided the largest images.
This time I used Aperture because it allows large images with small captions and a good deal or freedom of length and placement.I particularly appreciated the good snap placement between the pictures and other captions. The ease of producing 2 page spreads was impressive. The book ran 84 pages and the quality of the resulting was very good–on a par with my other Apple photo books.
On only one occasion have I had a problem with quality control of these books. In that case an a good high resolution image was pixelated. In that case, I was able to call Apple and speak to someone, who after hearing my description, asked me to send my copy back and issued a reprint order.
My only bit of consternation with this order is that I found no such contact information enclosed with the book.
Finally, I haven't seen any specific suggestions within this formum for third-party print houses that can produce good quality books. Just assertions that alternatives do exist. I would be willing to strip down the .pdf file of the book I have just created to some of the trickier images and see how these one of these print houses fare.

  • Raw files in aperture photo books

    Hi,
I'm creating my first aperture photo book. I uploaded raw files to aperture, made adjustments, and then placed the versions into the book. It is these versions (with all crops, adjustments, etc.) that will show up in my photo book, correct? (That's what it looks like when I preview the book, but I just want to make sure I didn't need to convert them to jpeg or anything before I spend over $100 on this book!)
    Thanks!

When you create a version in Aperture it automatically creates a jpeg, so you don't have to do anything else. It is all automatic.

  • When using iPhoto to buy photo books, is Apple going to take ownership of my photographic material?

    Hi,
I like iPhoto for its features and ease of use; however, I'm unclear on its privacy policy.
When using iPhoto to buy photo books, is Apple going to take ownership of my photographic material?
Can Apple use my pictures to advertise Apple products or services?
I've asked these questions twice to the apple privacy postmaster, but they only reply with a boiler plate of links to get further support or they simply ignore my email. Should I assume the worse?
I like iPhoto, but I'm not going to use it if I don't know that my privacy is satisfactorily safeguarded.
    Thank you for any insight

  • Aperture Photo Book

What is the lead time for an aperture photo book?

    Hi,
It's all listed in the shipping and delivery section (http://store.apple.com/us/help/print_products) depending of your location and if you chose standard versus express.

  • Can a completed Aperture photo book be placed on a website for viewing by friends?  I already had several copies successfully printed by Apple.

Can a completed Aperture photo book be placed on a website for viewing by friends?  I already have several copies successsfully printed by Apple?  Thanks. Buzz22

There is no direct web publishing of a book, sorry. But as a work-around: You can print your book to pdf - select it in the book in the Inspecktor panel and use "Print book".  Then select the "PDF" buttun in the print panel and save a pdf file. Upload the pdf to a server for sharing (ftp, Drop box) and send your friends a link or place a link to the file on a webpage.

  • APERTURE PHOTO BOOK WORKFLOW

I'm new to Aperture (1.1) and am looking for advice on the best workflow to create Apple Photo Books. Issues include:
    1. Getting the correct version of the photo into the book
    2. Copying the photos in correct order with a single copy/drag command
    3. Ensuring there are no duplicates
    4. Not having the photo name in the Book
I had created an Aperture Album for the Photo Book. Took care to drag the best version (which is the last version) of the photo into the album (with an error here). After numerous attempts, I gave up on trying to get the correct, better version of the photo into the Book (just re-edited the version I had). Tried to manually arrange the photos within the Album in the order I wanted to have them in the Book (they are ordered by date) but was unsuccessful in re-ordering. In creating the Book I had to individually drag each photo to it's page and had to manually keep track of which ones I was using (resulting in one duplication). As I was fine tuning the Book and rearranging the photos, there wasn't a place to temporarily store the photos (this is how I inadvertently got a duplicate). Also, I had to manually remove each photo name that was attached to each photo in the Book(perhaps there is an easy option here I don't know about yet?).
Interested in any pointers to expedite creating these Photo Books. Missing some of the iPhoto Book creation tools!

i am no expert on books, but in the one i am working on, i set the image i wanted to use as the stack pick before i made my book selections. i always manually load pages, so i can't help you there. in the browser of my book, the thumbnails of images used in the book have a red badge in the upper right corner showing how many times they have been used in the book. that should help you with duplicates.

  • PDF of Aperture photo book?

I'd like to design a photo book in Aperture; will I be able to save it as a high-res PDF?

Yeas, you can save the file, that would be sent to Apple for printing as a high quality PDF. See this support document:
iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040
    Open Aperture.
    Click the Buy Book button.
Click the Preview Book button. Aperture will begin assembling the book. This may take several minutes depending on the size of your book.
When the assembly is complete a PDF of your book will open.
Note: With Aperture 3, the first page of the PDF is the wrap-around dust jacket for your book, and the second page is the photo wrap cover that will be wrapped around the casing of your hardcover book.
After previewing the book, go back to Aperture. If you decide to continue with the order, click Continue. If you decide not to order the book at this time, click Cancel.

  • Aperture Photo-book Deadline for Christmas?

Does anyone know what the deadline is for receiving photo-books by Christmas Eve? iPhoto's is the 18th. I'm assuming it's the same for Aperture but just want to check.

    Hi TxOutsider,
Just picking up your post from the weekend - I emailed Apple Photo Services at the weekend with the same question, and from a European perspective at least, it's definitely the 18th. Hope that helps!
    Cheers,

  • Using Places in iPhoto with aperture photos

If we have a picture in aperture with the City and Country Name attribute filleds, this picture in iphoto will not have the info. So, iPhoto no uses the EXIF City and Country Name fields.
are there any solution to use the exif info filled in apeture with Places in iPhoto?
    Thanks.

I am not familiar with Aperture so I don't know what it can do or if any helper programs/plug ins will do with Aperture.
However there are other Geotagging programs out there. One that is very easy to use in conjunction with Google Earth is Graphics Connverter. With GC, you can open Google Earth, find the location of you want to tag your photo with, then switch over to GC and use the menu item to geotag the selected photos (you can do many photos at once) with the currently displayed Google Earth location. In addition there is a menu command to simply type in coordinates if you do not want to use Google Earth. GC can also tag using GPS data logger files.
GC will write the coordinates to the EXIF data and I have done it myself on both normal JPGs as well as Olympus RAW format. I know when I geotag with GC and then add the photos to iPhoto, iPhoto sees the tags just fine and show their locations. I assume Aperture would do the same.
iPhoto can tag photos as well, but it only writes the data to the database and doesn't actually add the info to the EXIF of the photos themselves until you export the photos out of iPhoto. Do to do it with iPhoto is a multi step process that would require adding them to iPhoto, tagging them, then exporting them back out of iPhoto. I think CG would be an easier solution.

  • HT1040 iPhoto on iPad photo book pdf preview

    Hi all,
I've made a photo book on my iPad. I submitted it and when delivered there were a number of issues with it.
Apple have been very good and refunded the cost and recommended previewing the book in pdf before submission.
Only problem is that on the iPad there doesn't seem to be an option to do that
Anybody know of a way to do this?
    Thanks

  • When I order 4 Aperture photo books can they be sent to 4 different addresses?

I am using Apple Aperture on an iMac. I plan to order soon at least 4 photo books and more later. Can 4 printed books be shipped to 4 different addresses in one order, or do I have to make 4 separate orders? If Apple has filled an order to print a photo book can I make another order without having to upload the book again, since Apple has the book from the previous order?

All parts of an order have to be delivered to the same delivery address. And for additional copies you have to place a new order and upload the book again.

  • Layout grids Aperture Photo Books

I am attempting to make sure all of my photo boxes and text boxes are consistent throughout a book I am designing.
I can not seem to find any feature that will allow me to precisely create and place images, text on pages.
There is a very basic center tool and outside margin tool -are there more tools somewhere I am missing or do they not exist?
If they don't Apple please add them. How can you have a professional tool without this basic function.
Also can you link text boxes to flow text?
Any advice as to how others have dealt with this.
    Thank you

    Hi,
I just finalized a photo book in aperture. When running a preview as part of the first steps in buying the book, many pictures turned out to be corrupted. The showed lines and patches of the picture with different colors. I'm afraid to order the book since I'm not sure if the problem will also appear on the actual book. Can anyone help.

  • Aperture: photo book won't print

When I click to order a photo book or want to print it, there is a warning of missing links and lower quality pictures. I would like to order nontheless. How can I do that?

If it is only a warning, you can proceed on your own risk and ignore the warning, but probably you wan't like the results.
I'd recommend to print the book to pdf first, and to browse the pdf-file, so you will see exactly what you will get for your money, and frankly, if there are missing links, there will be pictures missing from book. Why not repair those links first?
