IPhoto / Web Gallery / Subscriptions

Having only recently gotten round to playing with web galleries.
I processed one of my albums into a web gallery (I think). It appeared online in 'My Gallery'. OK.
But recently I made another web gallery. This one has appeared under the heading 'WEB GALLERY' in iPhoto, whereas the first one appears under 'SUBSCRIPTIONS'.
How have I managed this? Is it possible to subscribe to your own galleries? If so, where is my 'web gallery' version hiding?
Driving me mad.
And don't get me started on the fact that I can't delete the Web Gallery in MobileMe.

Steve:
Yes it's possible to subscribe to your own gallery. However, be careful as that may replace the original files with those uploaded to the gallery and they will be smaller depending on what you set up. Check it out carefully, i.e. the original files, to make sure you have full sized versions of them. You might even make temporary duplicates of them, delete the subscription, and see if the first originals are still in the library. If so then delete the subscription and check the originals again. If they are there then you can delete the copies and create a new gallery.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How to use iPhoto web gallery with iWeb & personal domain name

So, another question about iWeb 08:
I've set up my site to use a personal domain name, like www.mypersonaldomain.com. I've configured everything with my DNS settings so that it actually points to my iWeb site, and I'm happy about that.
However, I've imported a few iPhoto '08 web galleries into my site, but when I browse to them by going to www.mypersonaldomain.com and clicking on the link for my gallery, it goes to a URL that actually shows my .mac account, i.e. gallery.mac.com/sockdaddy/gallery1/photo.jpg
Is there any way to have the web galleries that I'm using become a more transparent part of my iWeb site, and use my personal domain?

I've never done this on .Mac but I do use this on my server. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
In iPhoto select your web gallery and in the "file" menu select "export" and then "Web Page".
Select your options and click "Export" to the desktop.
There are now 4 folders and an index.html file.
Change the name of the index file to whatever you want to call the page e.g WebGallery.html
Now go to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites and open your website folder.
Drag and drop the 4 folders and the html file from your desktop into this.
Create a link to this from your website in the "link" inspector and choose "external page".
The URL for the link will be the same as any other page on your site except WebGallery is substituted for the page name.
If you check the "open link in new window" you won't have to worry about the fact that you don't have a link back to your site from the WebGallery page.

  • IPhoto - MobileMe gallery subscription - problem with password-protected

I am having a peculiar problem with subscribed galleries from MobileMe in iPhoto 08 and iPhoto 09. For galleries that have password-protection enabled, the full URL of the gallery subscription feed is pulled through as the Subscription title instead of the gallery title.
    For example "http://gallery.e.com/ACCOUNT-NAME/XXXXXX/?webdav-method-truthget&depth=infinit y&feedfmt=atom....
This doesn't occur for public MobileMe galleries. The title of the gallery comes across and the URL of the subscription is hidden.
Anyone having similar problems? Local Genius Bar couldn't help and assumed it was just a bug, but it doesn't seem to be typical of Apple.
As an aside, it would also be nice to have these feed subscriptions behave similarly to the way RSS subscriptions work in Mail, with the ability to select how often the feed is queried and indicate the number of new items. This would alert users of changes to feeds.
    Joe

Upon further research, it appears that this problem occurs when publishing from either iPhoto or Aperture to MobileMe. The problem seems to be when a gallery is published and one chooses not to have the gallery appear on the main gallery page (hidden). It seems to have nothing to do with whether or not one protects the gallery with a password.
So, Apple, if you are listening, can you provide any information on how to have the title of the gallery come through when subscribing using iPhoto while at the same time not listing the gallery on the main MobileMe gallery page? This seems to be a fixable bug.

  • Iphoto web gallery link

I have exported a couple of iphoto albums to an .mac web gallery using iphoto08. I can open them in safari ok. When I try to link to these within iweb 08 using web widgets or the menu, no albums are available. Anyone had similar experiences?

When I try to link to these within iweb 08 using web widgets or the menu, no albums are available.
How did you try to do this exactly? Did you try a simple link to the url?
The normal way I think is to drag/drop from the media browser into a My Albums template.

  • Unable to edit, add or change passwords in iphoto web gallery

Iphoto and Web Gallery were working great but recently, I am unable to add, change, or delete passwords to my web galleries. When I go Settings and into Edit Names and Passwords, I can add or change a password but when I click OK, it will not allow either clicking on OK or hitting return. I have also posted an album to web gallery and it does not appear in the list in Settings or in the Edit Name and Password lists but I can see my gallery out on the web with all photos.
Any help on why this is. I have both a IMAC and a Macbook and it is the same with both computers using my imac account. Both have updated software and the Macbook has Parallels installed. I
ran repair in Keychain Access with no problems. I created another account and this did not help.
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following:
1 - repair disk permissions with Disk Utility.
2 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder..

  • Iphoto - web gallery

i've created a new web gallery and iphoto will not publish it. it says "pending". all of my others have worked in the past and i've deleted my old ones. why is the new one still pending?? my iweb will not not publish my site after changes either. i'm guessing something is wrong with the server these last 24 hours....

It could be that the server was slow. How many photos in the gallery and are there any movies? When I've added a movie to a gallery it was pending for a long time. When you see the pending notification do not do any more editing on the gallery. That can mess up the gallery on line.

  • Unable to add or edit users in iphoto web gallery

I'm unable to add new users/passwords in the "album viewable" drop-down when trying to start a new gallery away from my home gallery. I can also not delete old user/passes that are in there from galleries that I've deleted. I hit OK, and everything just greys out. Is there a preference file that needs to be trashed? It may be a result of using multiple computers to post photos into galleries, but I am just looking for a fix for now.
    THANKS!

Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Now try editing them again.

  • Can I put iPhoto slideshow on Web Gallery?

Our school is using iPhoto 08 and a .mac account to post pictures on the Web Gallery. While we are very satisfied with the formats allowed by Web Gallery, we'd like to put up something more in the style of the SlideShow feature in iPhoto, i.e., Ken Burns affect, music, etc., but I don't see a way to do this. Rather than give up, I thought perhaps someone might know of way to put the Slideshow on the Internet.
    Thanks,

Yes, you can add a QT movie file to an iPHoto Web Gallery. However, I would suggest you reduce the size of the file before importing into iPhoto and the gallery as they can become very large and very slow to load. QT Pro can do the job as well as VisualHub and some others. You might want to post over at the Quicktime forum on the best way to reduce the size and keep good quality. QuickTimeKirk is the reigning guru over there (IMO). Lots of smart QT users there.

  • Web Gallery Not Viewed in  Source List

I just created a web gallery with no problems and it is viewable on dot mac but now I cannot see it in the source list on the left hand side of the iPhoto page. It does appear momentarily when I do a manual check for changes in the Web Gallery preferences but then it disappears and is not visible. I would like to make some changes but cannot see or access the gallery in iPhoto. Any tips?
    Bill
    I am using iPhoto '08, version 7.1.1

I've been having the same problem, can't figure out how to fix it. If I go under Preferences/Web Gallery in iPhoto, the gallery is still there in the list, but it will only allow me to pick there "Stop publishing." I can't refresh it back into my iPhoto web gallery list.

  • Web Gallery password problems

After recently publishing and setting up a random password for a new iphoto Web gallery, I'm noticing that regardless of the password I assign to this gallery, the viewer ( or myself when testing it) still needed to enter my actual .mac password in order to view the page. Obviously I'd rather not give my personal .mac password out so I'm wondering if I'm missing a step. Can anyone help to correct this problem because I'm finding that the password I assign to it does not seem to work solely on its own.
    Thank you.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I suggest you first create a new album with the photos in the gallery, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder and, in the iPhoto Web Gallery preference pane, delete the gallery and try again.

  • .mac web gallery

    Hey Guys
I was wondering if this is possible.
I do have a .mac account but i wanna be able to download the whole mac album and be able to bring it to my clients office to show them pictures.
The whole thing is that i dont want to worry about internet connections.
I did try to download gallery but all i download are all the images no html file or php file or anything to run the interface.
ANY KNOWLEDGE ON HOW TO DO THIS IF IT IS AT ALL POSSIBLE.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. No, you can't do it with the iPhoto web gallery. But you could create an iWeb photo page with slideshow and publish that to a folder, burn to disk or flash drive, and play it on any computer with a web browser. The Black and the Darkroom themes are somewhat similar to iPhoto's web gallery in appearance.
    Do you Twango?

  • Iweb linking to web gallery

is tehre a way to link to a web gallery and not have the MY GALLERY button show up. I only want the link to open one album and not allow access to all my albums.

    redcloud:
No. You could password protect the other web galleries so if a viewer went into the main gallery they would not go any further. Otherwise create an iWeb album page from the album in iPhoto used to create the gallery like I did in this Album and Gallery Test page. There's an album and iPhoto web gallery on the page.

  • Syncing from mac to web gallery

I just published to my web gallery. I then updated the text to all the pictues in iPhoto. The next thing I know, my system resynced and all the text was replaced with the P9170033.JPG names that are shown in the web gallery on the web. How do I tell it to sync with the contents of my iPhoto?
    Thanks,
    Alfredo

is it possible that you updated your iPhoto photo titles before the web gallery sync completed? I just up dated on title in iphoto and forced a sync - the updated title remained in iPhoto and was synced to my Web Gallery
Try updating one or two then syncing and see if that does not work
If it does, be positive that the synce is complete and then do the rest (note that the sync icon seems to be out of sync with the actual sync sometimes - movies for example do not complete syncing for a long time after the sync icon indicated that the sync is complete)
Making changed to the iPhoto web gallery album while the sync is still in progress can create strange occurances (duplicate photos, etc)

  • Web Gallery Questions

Sometimes, when I add photos to my Web Gallery, they remain in perpetual pending mode and never actually show up on the Web gallery, even though they are in my iPhoto Web Gallery Album. I can't seem to solve this unless the only answer is to delete and reload the entire web gallery??? I have deleted the pending photos and reloaded them but they stay in pending mode forever and never show up on the actual web gallery.
How do I, as the owner of my gallery, access photos other users have uploaded and edit them, such as editing the title? I do not see these new photos in my web gallery album in iphoto despite them showing up when I go to the gallery via the browser.
Can you upload, as a visitor to some else's web gallery from your own iPhoto or do you have to drag the photo out to the desktop so you can access it from the upload dialog. The upload dialog does not seem to have a photo browser, just as normal open dialog.

    Mark:
I don't have an answer to your problem but do want to warn you against subscribing to your gallery to get those added photos. If you do you'll be in danger of replacing your full sized original files with the 800 x 600 files that the gallery uses.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. • Web gallery albums disappear

The problem: An album in iphoto web gallery has just disappeared from my iphoto program. I created a replacement album in web gallery but now when I go to my web gallery I see the old one and the new one. I cannot delete the old one as it does not show on my dot mac account and in iphoto. How do I delete the old one? Why do these albums disappear from iphoto in the first place.

How do I delete the old one?
THis is the easy qustion - go to your iDisk and delete the gallery -- finder ==> iDisk ==> web ==> sites ==> _gallery
Why do these albums disappear from iphoto in the first place.
    That is the hard question.
First be sure you are using the latest version of iphoto - 7.1.3
Second be careful not to make changes to the gallery while it is updating (this should NOT be a problem but appears to sometimes cause problems)
Third report to Apple -- iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
Because of this issue (although have not experienced it myself) I suggest creating standard albums for all galleries and doing all of your changes before creating the gallery - this avoids some problems and gives you a back up in case you need to regenerate the gallery due to a problem
