IPhoto will not open & keeps quitting

I've tried repairing & the other options available using the Alt,Command & relaunch key but to no avail.  There was a post that mentioned using the FatCat software but it costs $30.
Can one of my mac experts help me build my iphoto library, so I can get all my photo back...PLEASE!!!

NO!
Sorry I thought my post was very clear on this
the free trial of IPLM will do the rebuild you need - and you probably will find IPLM well worth the small cost - but it is not necessary to purchase it to do this
Simply download the FREE trial and use the FREE rebuild to rebuild your library - this creates a totally new library leaving the existing one untouched for future needs

If you want help you’ll need to give us more information. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance.

  • IPhoto will not open. Keep getting the rotating rainbow

iPhoto will not open. Rotating pinwheel keeps spinning. Have done shutdown three times

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you got it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and select Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • IPhoto will not open at all

This is a strange one!  iPhoto will not open - I get the message that it is not the right version or something - see attached.  (StartUp drive is SCS Mac 500HD)
OK so I take my 36 hour old full SuperSuper! Backup and make that the startup drive - D1-LaCie 505gb MBP BkUp2.  I use iPhoto (from the backup or the "main" drive) and both work fine-- all libraries from both HD's as well as other internal and external drives work (yes, I have a second internal HD on my MBP-13" - removed the DVD drive).
So I am guessing this has to do with something corrupt in the iPhoto plist on my main drive or ???? something.  The HD's all have been verified and are perfect; and disk permissions have been repaired.
Any comments on what to "trash" / "rebuild" or ??? --- again, all works perfectly when I startup from my BackUp FireWire external HD.  All iPhoto libraries open just fine.
THANKS!  I'll keep experimenting but haven't found a solution yet.
    Best regards,

  • IPhoto will not open since upgrading to OSX 10.8

Hi, has anyone come across this since upgrading to Mountain Lion. iPhoto will not open and I get the below error message. I was previously on OSX 10.6 with all updates applied to the OS. I upgrade the iPhoto app under iLife 11 on OSX 10.6 and it worked fine. Since I upgrade to the new Mountain Lion OS, iPhoto will not open. I tried to rebuild the library using the command and option (alt) key but it will not give me the option to rebuild. Should I attempt to delete the application and reinstall?  Any assistance would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

I tried that Terence but keep getting the same message. Firstly, after reinstalling iPhoto, it requires me to upgrade via the App store, and then I get the below message. The odd thing is that my iphoto version is 9.2 whilst the upgrade from the App store refers to version 9.1. The version line item per the below message appears to have changed from the initial message in my first posting here.

  • Iphoto will not open anymore, and tells me to "Update the latest version" even though I have it.

HELP! I have the latest updated version of OS X Lion, but now my iphoto will not open anymore and keeps telling me to "Update the latest version". SO then i tried to update it again and again, but it just does not work. What do I do?

What version of iPhoto do you actually have?

  • My iPhoto will not open. Please Help.

My iPhoto will not open. I try and open the application but nothing happens. The icon appears in the dock, but it isn't open. An error message does not appear either. When I try and click on an option in the toolbar everything becomes greyed out.

Follow the instructions for rebuilding your iPhoto library >  iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library

  • Downloaded and installed yosemite. Now iPhoto will not open and when i try to update it it says not available for my apple id. Help

Downloaded yosemite OSX 10.10 and now iPhoto will not open. When I try to update to iPhoto 9.6, it tells me it can not be be downloaded with "this Apple ID. It is the only Apple ID I have ever had. Please help

    - Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
    - To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.

  • IPhoto will not open. Error message says I must upgrade. But APP store says it is already installed?

iPhoto will not open. Error message says I must upgrade but the AppStore indicates that the newest version of iPhoto is installed so how can I upgrade and why did it stop working in the first place? What is the problem?

Hi Terence. I solved my problem. Apparently a 9.5.1 version of iPhoto was dowloaded, backed up on Ext Drive then deleted from the Mac HD...Leaving the old version 9.4.3 still resident on the Mac HD.
    Thanks for responding.

  • After installing yosemite iphoto does not open keep getting message"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

I upgraded to yosemite iphoto does not open keep getting message"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

Contact App Store support. There's a link on the right hand side of the App Store Window. They're the only ones who can sort out account issues.

  • After a power failure while iPhoto was running, I get the message "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"  and iPhoto will not open????

After a power failure while iPhoto was running, I get the message "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"  and iPhoto will not open???? held down the option and the command and tried to run what was ticked off and it just sits there with a spinning wheel and does nothing, can I throw the app away and download a new one? or will it still not open?

, can I throw the app away and download a new one? or will it still not open?
You could, but the error message is indicating that your iPhoto library needs repairing.
Check, if iPhoto will run, if you launch it on a new library. Hold down the alt/option key, while you launch iPhoto. Select to create a new library from the panel that will show. Can you create a new library? If yes, try again to fix the library. Which options have you tried from the Library First Aid panel, when you launched iPhoto with the option and command key held down?
If you have not tried "Rebuild"; do that next. But be sure to make a backup of your iPhoto library, before you try this.

  • Iphoto will not open I am asked to check with developer that iphoto works with this version of OS x I have followed all the steps recomended and reinstalle ILife but to no avail

Iphoto will not open I am asked to check with developer that iphoto works with this version of OS x. I have Mountain Lion OS X I have followed all the steps recomended  by T Devlin in a previous discussionand reinstalle ILife but to no avail

To reinstall iPhoto you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the:
    HD/Library/Receipts folder (10.5 and earlier)
    or from the /var/db/receipts/  folder (10.6) .
or from the /private/var/db/receipts folder (10.7 or later)
Then install iPhoto from the source it came from originally.

  • IPhoto will not open with pictures when I click on the icon.  It does show that it is open on top toolbar. What happened to my photos?

iPhoto will not open with pictures when I click on the icon.  It does show that it is open on top toolbar. What happened to my photos?

Did you run any updaters recently, i.e. like just before this happened?  Try this first fix: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..

  • I downloaded the new iphoto and the upgrade and now iphoto will not open correctly anymore. please help

I downloaded the new iphoto and the upgrade and now iphoto will not open correctly anymore. it stays on the opening screen and the message
shows up that I must update the mediathek. If I click on update the program shuts down. How can I fix this?

I downloaded the new iphoto and the upgrade
Does that mean, you are running iPhoto 9.6 on MacOS X 10.10.1 Yosemite? Or are you using an older MacOS X? "New" iPhoto is relative and depends on your system.
If I click on update the program shuts down. How can I fix this?
Does "shut down" mean it crashes?  Then post please the error log from the error panel here - copy and paste the report into your next answer (the first 50 lines should suffice)
Where is your iPhoto Library (Mediathek) stored? Have you moved it to an external drive, or is it still in your Pictures folder (the order "Bilder")?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System.
