Iphoto will not open

Question

Problem: When I launch iPhoto it crashes instantly. As a trial I downloaded iPhoto manager and created a new library and imported photos from the iPhoto Library that appears to crash the application and it worked fine. If i didn't have over 5000 photos i would import them all and call it good. It appears to be linked therefore to my original Library.
I tried choosing this original library by holding cntrl+option as the application opens (this only works when opening iPhoto with the new library i created) but it crashes instantly. I haven't changed anything in iPhoto. The libraries are located on an external drive wirelessly connected. I did have some connection issues with this drive recently but they have been fixed.

In the meantime you should download the last free version of iPhoto, 2.0, from here and then immediately run Software Update and update to 2.0.1.
