Iphoto will not quit or force quit
iPhoto will not quit, will not force quit, and if I turn off my mac and turn it on again, it is still trying to import photos from my disconnected iphone6. What shall I try next??
Open the iPhoto Library Package:
Select the iPhoto Library in the Finder. By default it is in your Pictures folder.
Ctrl-click or right-click the iPhoto lIbrary. Select "show package contents" from the panel, that will pop up.
Look for a folder named "Importing" or "Import". Remove this folder, but don't touch anything else.
Then launch iPhoto again.
If iPhoto now is working again, check the folder you removed, if there are any photos that you want to keep and save them.
If you cannot quit an application even with force quit, you can usually kill it from the Terminal.
Open a Terminal window.
Then try first to stop iPhoto by typing
killall iPhoto
If that does not suffice to terminate iPhoto, try this modification:
killall iPhoto -KILL
The "kill" command sends a signal to the process to be terminated. Without a signal name as parameter, it is the "TERM" signal, the same as "Force Quit" will send. This request can be ignored. The "KILL" signal is the ultimate killer, it is not catchable and cannot be ignored.
KILL (non-catchable, non-ignorable kill)

IPhoto will not import photos and quits unexpectedly
Please correct me if this is the wrong forum for this problem as I am new to all of this.
I have a mac mini running OS X 10.6.8 and iPhoto 11 version 9.2.3. I'm trying to import photos. I tried doing it through the camera's USB which is how we've always done it, and it quit unexpectedly. I tried putting photos from camera onto a flash drive on another computer and importing them to this computer that way, same problem: quits unexpectedly. I have looked for some 3imx file I read about (didn't find it). I deleted some other file in iphoto in the library/application support which I can't remember the name of because I've tried so many things. I have rebuilt my library. I have tried making a new library and importing into it (same problem). I'm getting desperate as I am supposed to be doing a project.
My report is:

Mail application will not close OR force quit
I own a macbook pro running mountain lion. The problem is that my mail application says its open but i can't find a way to close it or force quit it. Is there any way to stop this bcause it won't let my computer shut down because mail is open. Thanks.
3rd party Safari items would include SafariStand, SAFT, PicLens, Inquisitor, etc. They are installed in your HD>Library or User Account Library>InputManagers folder.
I suspect you may have created some directory problems (on top of the existing problems) when you shut down your computer with applications still active. A second time won't matter. After the shutdown, restart holding down the Shift key until the log-in screen appears (above the Log-in screen you'll see "Safe Mode". After the log-in completes, go to the Finder: In your HD>Library, look in the Startupitems folder for any odd items. If anything is there, let me know what is installed.
If nothing odd there, then restart the computer, except this time hold down the P/R/Command/Option keys until you hear 3 chimes. Then release the keys to continue to the log-in etc.

I have just added I cloud to my PC and my Calendar is stuck trying to move to server account.
It has shown a couple of failure messages but I cannot access preferences as ther are greyed out.
What can be done to stop calendar trying to upgrade?I am having the same issue. I am on MacOS 10.9 and the "genius" at the Apple Store deleted all my events on iCloud and attempted to re-upload them but the Calendar app has been in limbo, "Moving calendars to server account" for days.
If I quit the Calendar app and start it back up it immediately resumes uploading. So currently my Calendar app is unusable.
I would like to do 2 things. First, get it to stop moving events to iCloud. And second, find out how I can sync Calendar events from my Mac (running OS 10.9) and my iPhone 5S.
The reason why the Apple 'genius' was trying to clean out my events from iClous and re-upload them was because despite having iCloud turned on for Calendars on both my Mac and iPhone, they were still not syncing all my events. -
iPhoto will not let me close, force quit, or turn off the computer because it says it is "importing photos" when it isn't. How do I fix it?
Thank you- so simple, and it worked!

Iphoto will not quit without a force quit. Help!
Iphoto will not shut down without doing a force quit everytime. It also won't connect to my camera to get some new photos.
Any suggestions?Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Iphoto will not upload / freezes have to force quit.
Mac OSX version 10.6.8 iphoto will not upload photos. After iphoto is open , it freezes and I have to forcequit. Any one have a simple fix for this?
Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists.
If iPhoto does not freeze when importing photos into the new, test library then your current library is the culprit. If that's the case if you have the space available on your hard drive and don't aready have a backup copy of the library make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

After dumping out a couple of hundred photos from my library iPhoto would not quit, I forced quit and now I have a couple of hundred "ghost" photos, the photo meta information without the photo. If I try to delete the "ghost" photos and empty iPhoto trash, iPhoto will not quit again. Any solutions? I tried opening the content of the iPhoto file but there is no way I can figure out what meta data to delete that way.
I had same issue a week or so ago with iPhoto 09 hanging during an upload of new images. While naming a new event, the app froze. After a force-quit, I relaunched iPhoto with same resulting crash.
Disk Utilities permissions repair did nothing to re-establish iLibrary functionality. On rebooting the iMac, after a looonnnggg wait watching the spinning gear(?), a greyed out 'Quit' symbol (circle with diagonal bar thru it) appeared and the OS (10.6.1) never launched. Several reboots had same effect. No OS launch. I booted from the original SL install disk, which ran OK, and launched Disc Utility, repair disk. It could not be repaired! A hardware diagnostic check resulted in OK for the drive.
After spending the better part of a day with Apple Tech Support, upgrading from one expert to another (4), the problem issue remained unresolved.
Two weeks prior to that I had one of my 2 external HDDs crash, and could not access some of my most recent iPhoto Events. Had to replace the HDD and have not been able to recover any data from the failed drive.
Finally resorted to a fresh install of the OSX10.6.1 (auto data archive) and restored iMac operationally intact with no data loss. Immediately did a TM backup and then reinstalled all the current updates again with another backup.
iPhoto 09 is back running again, but I still find that it is very quirky with unexpected outcomes.
Can't really trust that it won't blow up again.
Bottom line - multiple backups on variety of media for important data and photos! -

mac osx 10.6.8 itunes launches automatically and will not respond to quit or force quit in the Activities Monitor. When I quit or go into the Activities monitor and try to quit, it goes off, briefly, then immediately relaunches. If i turn the computer off, and then on, iTunes launches automatically. ITunes 10.4. The only thing I remember doing different, lately, is I just updated a couple of days ago. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks!
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems, make sure that the window is not maximized:

itunes will not quit or force quit . light simply stays on? any suggestions?
I have a 13 inch MBP. I had to log out. It would not let me restart or shut down unless iTunes was closed. And, iTunes was not responding to the FORCE QUIT option. It would quit, then reappear. Hope this helps.

I am using iPhoto 11 and my library has 736.5mb on disk. I have problems with iPhoto stalling and needing to force quit. I have rebuilt my library. Can you suggest anything else? Thanks, Rose
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that does'nt help log into another user account on your Mac and try iPhoto from there. -

Clicking on the OK button removes them from the library.
