IPhoto will not recognize itunes playlists

I have had this problem for a couple months now where iphoto slideshows and idvd, and imovie cannot find any of the itunes music playlists and the pop-up for slideshows just says "open itunes 6 or higher to populate list" but never does.
I recently upgraded to ilife 08 hoping that that would solve the issue but its still there. After reading some posts online i tried rebuilding my itunes library xml file many times, opened the apps in the correct order, repaired permissions deleted, threw away preference plist files, and even threw away and reinstalled several of the apps. None of them seemed to solve the issue. Anyone have any ideas to get the iapps to see itunes playlists again?? Please help

No, this is a purely diagnostic step. It tells us that both iTunes and iPhoto are okay, there's no need to re-install them and that the issue is somewhere in your main user account.
When the apps interact, iPhoto reads the iTunes xml file, and the problem is in there somewhere, so I would also be posting over there.
All my comments about the iTunes xml file are based on what I've learned about the iPhoto one. They may not necessarily apply.
Where is your iTunes Library? On your start up drive? On an external? If an external, what format is it?
Do you have any non-ascii characters in your mp3 metadata or tags (essentially, anything not a-z or 0-9)

  • My iphoto will not recognize my iPhone 5c

My iphoto will not recognize my iPhone 5c, therefore I can't import any of my pictures.
I read that it could be the cable do I went out and bought another but it is still not working?
Neither itunes nor iphoto open when I plug in my phone, however when I open up itunes manually, it recognizes it. Any suggestions?

Launch iTunes, then connect your iPhone to USB. The iPhone will prompt you, if you trust this computer. Confirm that you trust it.
Then try again to import to Photos.
If "trust" was not the reason, try a different USB port on your computer.

  • Just started. iphoto will not recognize iphone as a camera

frustrated here. All of a sudden, IPhoto will not recognize my iPhone as a camera and therefore will not upload photos taken on the phone. No settings have been changed. Not sure what to do here.

Got any photos in your camera roll that were emailed to you or saved through safari? If so, try deleting them or emailing them to yourself & then deleting them from your camera roll. See if iphoto will then see your phone.

  • TS3988 I have no trouble with email but IPhoto will not recognize my server when I try to send a photo to a friend. Anyone else have this probelm ...a solution??? N

I can email but IPhoto does not recognize my server to enable me to send email photos. Any advice?  N

I've been having this problem too, but here's the catch: originally it was only with my dad, and only sometimes.  Now it's dad and husband, every time!  Pix go through, via imessage, to everyone else, and they go through to dad/husband if I "send as text" after it fails.
And the other annoying thing- the blue bar will run all the way, and it will say "delivered".  So I close out of imessage. When I reopen it again, the "delivered" has changed to "not delivered" with the red exclamation point.  I just googled "imessage not sending photos" and founds TONS of people with the same problem, but no solutions.  (I have rebooted phone, reset network settings, with no luck.  I even had to backup/delete/restore my whole phone the other day for a different reason, and hoped that would fix it, but now it won't send to my dad OR my husband (who is on not just the same carrier, but the same family plan as me)

  • IPhoto will not play iTunes music in slideshow

Slideshow I created in iPhoto will only play theme music.  When I select my music from iTunes, the slideshow does not play the music. I have made dozens of slideshows before without this problem.  Seems to be a bug with iPhoto now.  Any suggestions??

Assuming this is for iPhoto on your Mac:
Launch iTunes use the File -> Library -> Organize Library -> Reorganize Library menu option. Then quit and relaunch iPhoto.

  • BlackBerry Media Sync Will Not Load iTunes Playlists and/or iTunes Library.

I have updated my iTunes to the latest version, and suddenly, my Media Sync (for BlackBerry) will not load my iTunes Library or iTunes Playlists...
Can someone please shed some light on this?

I have no idea, since I don't have a Blackberry.
Is there a Blackberry forum where you could ask the same thing?

  • Imovie will not recognize itunes

All of a sudden imovie will not authorize my computer to play purchased itunes music, It will not allow an older project to play a song that played 3 months ago., or allow a purchased song to be added to a newer project from my library. Do I have a virus? Why wont the imovie recognize itunes.

You are not alone. The following thread may be of help:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7425929&#7425929
You might try closing iTunes and iMovie and then trashing the files com.apple.iTunes.plist and com.apple.iMovie.plist found in User/Library/Preferences. (The programs will create new .plist files upon relaunch.) Then do a permissions repair using the Disk Utility app on your Mac.
Is it possible that you for some reason changed the name on your iTunes account so that the purchased songs are not recognized as authorized?
Is your iTunes updated to current version? But I would avoid updating to Quicktime 7.5 at this time, as some users have reported problems with jerky playback and out of sync music after the update.
Finally, try posting your question on the iTunes forum and see if those folks have a solution.
    Good luck with this.

  • IPhone 3Gs will NOT recognize iTunes NOR charge with my PC but ....

My iPhone 3Gs (16GBytes white model) will NOT show up on iTunes NOR charge with my PC but it will charge with the wall plug.
    My iPhone 3Gs IMEI: 01 203100 586260 3
It is an unlocked iPhone purchased directly from one of Apple store online in Asia.
I am currently traveling in Asia and using a local SIM card.
All of a sudden today, it will not charge on my laptop. It still charges on the wall plug. I suspect that it has to do with me plugging the phone into another public but older PC (running Windows XP) - was attempting to charge my phone but that public PC did not show that it was charging or recognizing the iPhone.
It will not charge or sync no matter what I do. I tried using the power button + home button. I tried holding the home button then plugging in the USB cable. I tried erasing all the data on the phone. All of the above failed.
Now I have the screen where it shows that I have to plug in the USB cable to activate my phone!

3194 usually means one of the following:
You don't have the latest version of iTunes
You are trying to downgrade the phone to a version lower than 5.0.1
Your phone has been jailbroken or hacked to use with a carrier other than the carrier it is locked to

Thanks so much...

  • My Mac and/or iPhoto will not recognize my camera.

So I shot pics in RAW yesterday and when I hook my camera it is not recognized. This happened the other day also when I shot in RAW. What would be the problem?

Did you apply the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 2.2? If so the following may help:
    "Source:http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8142169#8142169
    Page Title: Apple - Support - Discussions - Can't import Canon RAW's (400D) to ...
    Date: Wednesday, September 24, 2008 7:26:47 PM
This might work (from Clem who figured it out):
Delete the file: System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle then (re)install the previous version.
    Get the previous version here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/digitalcamerarawcompatibilityupdate21.htm l
    Restart your computer. "
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IMAC, iMovie, iPhoto will not recognize iPhone, won't charge either

    Hello All:
I just took some video with my iPhoto 3GS, and connected my iPhone to my iMac only to find that:
iPhone is not recognized by either iTunes, iPhoto or iMovie and what's more it won't charge. That is, my iMAC can't detect iPhone as a connected device. I went to the Apple support page and ran through all of the troubleshooting steps (except clean uninstall and reinstall of iTunes.)
As a control, I connected iPhone to my MacBook and all fine: it charges, iTunes recognizes it as a connected device, as do iPhoto and iMovie.
This is a new thing, as when I got the iPhone a month or so ago, I used my iMac to initialize it.
All software up to date, all USB ports on iMAC work, cable is fine.
The ONLY new software I have loaded since I last used iPhone and iMAC together is Snapz Pro X (trial), so I did a thorough (and I mean thorough) uninstall of that...no change.
I live in Spain, so my closest Genius Bar is London, and I'm not flying up with a 24"iMAC under my arm!
    Any help?
    Steve

Isn't it always the last place you look for something is where you'll find it?
Last night when I made the post I was just too tired to delete iTunes and go through the Libraries to scrub out the files.
This morning, with a Cappuccino I did it.
Reloaded a fresh copy of iTunes...all better now.
Perhaps Apple support on this topic should change "on rare occasions you will need to reinstall iTunes" to "you will need to reinstall".
    Anyway, better now.
BTW: the reason all this happened is because I wanted to transfer iPhone videos to my Mac to work on them in iMovie. iMovie won't recognise the iPhone, but, Image Capture does!! Just offloaded the 10 vids from iPhone in .mov format. I'm good to go.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

  • IPhoto will not recognize iPad mini

I have an iPad mini running iOS 6.1.3. I need to move pictures from that iPad to an iMac running OSx 10.9.1 and iPhoto 9.5.1. iPhoto on the iMac is not recognizing the iPad. iTunes does recognize it though. I have tried repairing permissions, as well as restarting both the iMac and the iPad. The iPad does have photo stream turned on as well as shared photo streams. I can not turn these options off or I will lose all my picture. Is there another way to get the photos off of the iPad? or Is there another way that I can get iPhoto to recognize the iPad?

    Hello RedHots,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
iOS: Unable to import photos to computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3195
Verify that there is a photo available to be imported:Save a screenshot by pressing the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time (the screen should flash briefly). Manually open your photo-management software to determine if this software can recognize the device and import photos.
Try using the photo-management software built in to your computer's operating system:
Mac OS X: Open Image Capture (located in the Applications folder).
Check for software updates to your photo-management software.
Verify that iTunes and your iOS software are up to date. Download and install any updates that are available.
Check for and install any available operating system updates. (On Mac OS X, select Software Update from the Apple Menu. On a PC, run the Windows Update application.)
Try using a different computer to import your photos.
Email photos to yourself if you wish to keep them. Then, delete them from your device and reconnect the device to your computer.
Note: If you have a large number of these photos on your device, you may delete them from your device a few at a time and reconnect to the computer until the device is recognized.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • IPhoto will not open iTunes to make a slideshow.

Trying to put together a simple slideshow.  Under settings, I wanted to choose a song from iTunes.  When I select iTunes from the dropdown it says "open iTunes to see your music" or something to that effect.  iTunes IS open and everything is in its place as far as I can tell.  Any suggestions?

Can you access the iTunes Library from another app - iMovie for instance? If not then the issue is with iTunes and you'll get best help on the iTunes forum. If you can then post back here as the issue will be with iPhoto.

  • Installations will not recognize itunes.msi

My itunes was installed on my external drive, marked H: . The drive fried, and i am trying to install itunes on my harddrive, C:
I get an error message during installation:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click ok to enter again, or enter an alternate path to the foldercontaining the installation package “itunes.msi” "
I clicked ok to retry—no luck. This error message came up.
"the path c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\application data\apple\apple software\update\itunes.msi cannot be found. verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package “itunes.msi” "
I found the file "itunes.msi" in Windows\downloaded installations, and I cut and pasted it to c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\application data\apple\apple softwareupdate\ , and I pressed okay to retry, but even though the file is in the directory, the installer didn’t recognize it, and I got the message, “The older version of itunes cannot be removed. Contact your support group.” So, I had to cancel.
    Any suggestions?

When you get these types of message, you usually need to do an installer file clean up.
Here is a method for removal of iTunes and related components with clean up and reinstall.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.
