Iphoto window reduces when pressing command

hi,
I got into the habit of pressing command & holding down command & click on thumbnails to select several pics for emailing etc.  lately, when I press command the whole window reduces & only goes back to full screen after tapping the trackpad again. sometimes I loses the selecting altogether from tapping the trackpad.
How can I rectify this little annoyance ?
cheers
HH

Sounds like a trackpad issue.  Try changing  the trackpad preferences for sensitivity or speed.  If that fails delete the preference file that the trackpad uses.  I don't know which one it will be as I don't have a trackpad.  Go to the form for your particular Mac, Macbook Pro, iMac, Macbook, etc. and ask there for which preference file to delete.
You can first try the following but I'm not sure it's relevant to the problem. It won't hurt to try, though:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
     User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Imac-when pressed command H, word doc was locked .can't open. What to do?

    Hi
Working onimac in WORD with a big document. When I pressed command H the doc went to its folder on desktop and will not reopen. How do I fix that , ie make it reopen.
What did command H do? when I click on the doc it will not reopen.
I may have hit control H like on a PC (to bring me to the top of the first page= home).
If so, how would I fix that . Need to open a very big doc and keep working.

Command-H hides the document.  Command-Tab brings you back to Microsoft Word.  Your document isn't lost.  You just simply switched to the Finder.  In Microsoft's infinite wisdom, they didn't make command-H the same as minimize, and hence why you are probably lost.  It doesn't minimize the window to the dock, which would make it easier to access.   Don't use command-H unless you really want to hide and switch applications.  This discussion explains alternatives.

  • Safari 4 opens multiple windows but when pressing F9 only one is shown

So when i open safari it really only opens 1 window but when i press F9 to show all things i have on the desktop it will show that there are 3 or 4 other boxes - as if there were windows there but when i highlight and click on them it just takes me back to my original safari window. it will do this even when the only things running are safari and then dashboard and finder. I've done restarts and reset finder. Is anyone having this problem or has it already been resolved??? i'm going to the apple store sunday but i'm out of town till then.

I'm having the same issue as well.

  • Juliebell6491 Window reduces when I try to scroll down a page, etc.

I've stolen the Subject heading from juliebell6491 because that person posted a problem, which seems to be the same as mine, in a forum last year but I cannot figure out how to reply to the query. My problem is that more frequently than not, when I select an action, such as scroll up or down, or underline, or anything really, the window reduces down either partially or fully and it might do a wrong action repeatedly. juliebell6491 was advised by another forum post to try adjusting settings, juliebell6491 asked what settings? and then the 'conversation' stopped. Did juliebell6491 find a solution to the problem and if so what was it? I would be eternally grateful for any help. Model Equium A100-337. Windows Vista.

Probably you're brushing the touchpad as you type. There's a pinch zoon function there that can change the screen magnification. Play around with the settings here.
Mouse pointer jumps around as you type
I couldn't find JulieBell6491. Did you spell her name correctly? Which forum was that?

  • Bridge CS5 Windows crashes when I command/move or drag/drop files internally

Bridge CS5 crashes with a Microsoft "report error" dialog whenever I drag images from one folder to another inside of Bridge, or use the right-click "Move To . . ." mouse command.  After months of successful use of the Bridge CS5, this behavior suddenly began.  Unfortunately, I can't now remember whether I did anything to my Windows environment at that time.  Bridge does not have trouble with dragging or command/moving files into Photoshop, but dragging image files (jpg) from a search screen or the Windows Explorer can also end in a crash.
I'm running Windows XP SP3 32-bit on a 4-processor machine with adequate ram and lots of hard drive/scratch drive.  I deinstalled every trace of Bridge and reinstalled the upgrade 4.0.2.1, which makes me up to date. Working with Adobe Support I also cleared and uninstalled, and then reinstalled Photoshop, Bridge, etc. to fix some other problems.
I have experimented with purging the Bridge cache for individual folders I was dragging from and to, but didn't purge all caches.  Typically, the crash appears a few seconds after dragging/moving a file - continuosly sucking-me into thinking things are at last repaired.  On occasion images are lost - i.e. really destroyed, or dropped into some limbo somewhere.
I'd be truly grateful for any ideas to try, no matter how extensive or simple.
    Thanks!

    Hi Robert,
I'm a developer from Br team. Thanks for reporting Br. problems.
It seems like a memory issue. Please try this to help us identify the root cause:
    1. Disable all startup scripts (Edit->Preferences->Startup Scripts->Disable All), then restart Br.
    2. When Br is running, kill "SwitchBoard" process in task manager.
    3. When do Copy&Move operations, don't use Drag&Drop, try to use "Move To / Copy To" menu. (A known issue of Bridge, should be fixed in later versions)
    Does the crash still happens?
    Thanks very much!

  • Apple Script "do when pressed" command?

hey guys i need the right command that would activate a script once i press F1 (for example)
So it should be smthg like:
    If F1 is pressed Then
         tell application "System Events"
              keystroke "123"
              keystroke tab
              keystroke "134"
         end tell
    else
         do nothing
    end if
and i save the script under what?
I need it to work either in text edit- pages- safari.... ect... (wherever there's a text box)
    THANK YOU

To run a terminal command it is usually sufficient to use do shell script. So for your command it would be
do shell script "networksetup -setdnsservers Wi-Fi 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4"
note if the command requires administrator privileges you would need to do
do shell script "command"  with administrator privileges
will prompt for the password when the script is run.
do shell script "command" user name "me" password "mypassword" with administrator privileges
will store the password and username in the script. More convenient but much less secure.
See do shell script in AppleScript

  • Save As window appears when pressing CMD+S shortcut

    Hi!
I had this problem a couple of days ago. Whenever I press CMD+S (which is supposedly a shortcut for a quick save on Mac) the Save As window always appear. I looked at the File menu and there's nothing wrong with the shortcut key. I also tried pressing CMD+SHIFT+S (which is the real Save As shortcut) and it works fine. Please help me with this. Thanks!

Does the image conform to the png requirements?
Does it have multiple Layers etc.?
If so then it can not be saved as a png directly naturally.

  • HT201376 Nothing happens when pressing Command+R during reboot

I am trying to do a factory reset on my computer, and I have tried at least 30 times to restart and hold down the Command+R Keys and absolutely nothing happens.  I have tried during different intervals during the reboot, and have tried doing it after a shut down and startup.  Nothing happens at all. I have done it at least 15 times when the white screen with the apple pops up.  I have waited for the "wait" symbol to try it.  What am I missing?! Why won't this work? I cannot get to the point where I can erase everything.  When I go in manually through the disk utility, it will not let me erase this way.  Help!

do I need that DVD? or can I upgrade to the newest version, would I then be able use the command R option for bringing up the disk utility partition?
What exactly are you trying to do?
OS X Lion and above includes the addition of a Recovery partition (not a "disk utility partition"). If you had OS X Lion or above, then Command-R would boot the Mac to the Recovery partition. From that partition, you could then run the Disk Utility application.
With 10.6.8, you can boot from the DVD (Hold down the C key while restarting), once done, you could also run the Disk Utility application.
Note: There is no way that we can tell whether you can upgrade from 10.6.8, since you haven't provided any specific information about your Mac other than it is a MacBook.

  • Hidden iPhoto window?

I left my sister using iPhoto and she called me back telling me the iPhoto window had disappeared. I tried clicking 'show all' in the iPhoto menu but the window is still 'hidden.' However, if I use Expose to show all open windows, I can see the iPhoto window - however, when I click on it, it darts away under the dock and becomes hidden again.
I had been trying to restore my library and now I am unable to even quit iPhoto because I need to click restore/cancel on the window.
    Please help.

renew the iPhoto preference file -
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Rebuild iPhoto library?  I have opened iPhoto with Command   Option keys held down.  I get the Photo Library First Aid window.  When I hit the repair button for the repair permissions command, iPhoto opens and nothing else happens.  What do I do now?

I have opened the iPhoto First Aid window.  When I press the repair button for the repair permissions operation, nothing happens but my iphoto opens at the place I have been stuck since July 3.  What do I do now.

  • After I updated to Yosemite I can't see my Iphoto library in the attachments window.  When I select Media - Pictures only my Photo Booth Library Comes up

After I updated to Yosemite I can't see my Iphoto library in the attachments window.  When I select Media ->Pictures only my Photo Booth Library Comes up

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto windows goes black (photo disappears) when editing

I recently upgraded to iPhoto 11 and was editing a photo when it disappeared. Basically, the entire iPhoto window went black and I was unable to make an edits.
When I went back to the Events page the picture was there looking normal. But I am unable to edit the photo because any time I go to make a change, the picture disappears.
I restarted iPhoto and rebuilt the database, the thumbnails... every option available when restarting holding the Option + Command keys. Still no joy.
Anybody have any clue what's going on?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. *Permissions in the Library* : Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. *Minor Database corruption*: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. *A Damaged Photo*: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. *A corrupted iPhoto Cache*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. *A corrupted preference file*: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *If none of these help*:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Safari problem:  when I switch back into safari from another application, the menu bar comes up but no tabs or windows.  What's going on?  Just started yesterday.  I have found a workaround: when I Command Tab back to safari, I hit command T to open a new tab and Command W to close it, and my other tabs are visible.
I have tried shutting down, closing tabs, with no success.  What's going on and how can I fix it?
    Thanks,

PS:  I'm not sure of the actual OS level, but I have not allowed it to upgrade to Maverick yet; concerned about it because of a few things I've read...

A Safari extension or third party plugin may be causing the menu bar issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
As for which OS X is installed.
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
    The version is noted there.
v10.6 Snow Leopard v10.7 Lion  v10.8 Mountain Lion
It's your choice whether or not to upgrade to Mavericks. If you decide to do this, make sure your Mac meets the requirements noted here.

Yes, you can do something like that. What you would do is create a button for each image and then hide them. When I do this type of thing I place all of the buttons on a template page and then hide the template.
You can then use JavaScript to copy the icon from any of the hidden buttons to the main button that you've set up to display the image. For example, suppose you set up 10 buttons named b1, b2, b3, ...b10. The code to copy the icon from one of them to the button used to display the image (b0) would be something like this:
// Get the icon from the b3 button
    var oIcon = getField("b3").buttonGetIcon();
// Get  reference to the b0 button
    var f = getField("b0");
// Set the icon of the b0 button to the icon retrieved from the hidden button
    f.buttonSetIcon(oIcon);
    // Show the b0 button
    f.display = display.visible;
This code would go in the Mouse Up event of the smaller button.
