IPhoto Wireless to my HDTV?

I have a fairly new iMac where my iPhoto library is located. In another room, about 30 feet away, is my 63" Samsung plasma HDTV. Our home has an Airport Extreme (AE) that we use to access the Internet, email, etc. Two iMacs and a MacBook Air connect to the AE. In addition, we've got a Sony '570 DVD player that is wireless enabled, and it connects to the AE to get stuff from Nexflix, Hulu, etc.
So, what I'd like to do is to play a slideshow of my iPhoto movies on the plasma TV. Can this be done? I know I can burn a DVD from selected iPhoto images, but that isn't really what I want to be doing.
Is there any way to do this slideshow across our network? I don't mind if I have to buy some type of relatively inexpensive wireless device if need be (Airport Express, etc.)
Thanks, Jim

Hey Jim,
You are correct that iTunes is the gateway through which music, movies, and pictures are accessed by the AppleTV.  It runs on the same theory as iPods, iPhones, and iPads which also use iTunes as the organization point for what content they use.  iTunes talks to all the various locations on your computer that have the afore mentioned media (think of it as a media hub).  There is no need for iPhoto to talk directly to the AppleTV as iTunes does the work on it's behalf.  Home sharing is not part of the equation (thats used for moving music between different computers).  If you like, stop by a local Best Buy or Apple Retail Store and try before you buy to see how it works!
Happy shopping.

  • Accessing iphoto wirelessly from other computers

    Hi
I'd like to know if there's a way to access my iphoto library wirelessly using my MacBook Air.
I have my iphoto library on an external drive connected to my iMac.
    I have a Belkin router.
I prefer to keep one library for all my photos (as well as itunes music).
Can wireless access be done, without using Airport and/or Timecapsule?
    Thanks
    AS

    Depends on two things
    1. What version of iPhoto you have.
    2. What you want to do with the LIbrary.
If you have any version of iPhoto prior to iPhoto 11 v9.5, then you can use iPhoto Sharing to access the library to view it,
If you're thinking of editing - actual photos, or even things like importing photos, adding albums or keywyrds - then you run into the standard networking warning:
    See this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5168
    for more. Note the comment:
“Additionally, storing the iPhoto library on a network rather than locally on your computer can also lead to poor performance or data loss.”

I want to Sonos or Bose wireless speaker with hdtv connected to macbook pro.  I think apple tv might free my tv from being tethered to macbook pro.  PS Im new with this. Thanks for any advice.

I'm not exactly sure what it is that you are asking, however I feel that if you take a look at the Apple TV manual, it may answer the questions that you have.

  • Streaming iPhoto to HD-Plasma Screen

    Hi guys,
I love my new iMac G5...just switched from Windows XP.
I posted a question to the iDVD forum, but need more details. I would like to stream a slideshow I created in iPhoto to my plasma HDTV that is 2 rooms away. A guy in the iDVD forum suggested I connect a Mac Mini to the TV. Then I could stream from my G5 to the Mac Mini, and use the video out to the Plasma.
Does this sound plausable? I'd hate to spend $700 and end up with a technical nightmare.
    Any thoughts?

You can connect your iMac G5 to your TV using the Apple Video Adapter M9109G/A.
The Mac mini would require the Apple DVI to Video Adapter M9267G/A.

  • Using iPhoto library with Apple TV

Just st upo the Apple TV and have the iTunes bit working for music, purchased movies and home movies stored within iTunes from my late 2012 Mac Mini.
    Must say am impressed.
The boss has 64Gb of photos on an a mid 2013 airbook and wants to know how the photos can be "shown" on the TV.
I have read a little on Airplay but not sure on how it might work for these photos.
    Both computers running 10.9.2
    Thanks

Solved my own question, I was on a different wifi network in the house:( so the airplay icon was missing
Set up Airplay and the boss now has iPhotos mirrored on the HDTV.
It is really good, highly recommend it as you dont need a Smart TV for it just one that supports 1080

  • Digital camera to Extreme for wireless picture downloads.

I have an AirPort Extreme to which I have successfully added a printer and external hard drive using a powered hub. I can access both wirelessly.
I am also trying to add a digital camera to the hub so that I can download my new pictures to iPhoto wirelessly without having to physically plug the camera into my MacBook, but I am having no luck with that.
Is it possible? If so, how do I do it?

Now I'm travelling to China at the end of the year I am hoping even more that some Apps guru can come up with even a basic processing App to load images that can attach to say, my daily news to my Friends on Facebook!
I know my Sony uses USB2.0 so all that would be needed is an intermediary link to plug into the Touch? I noticed there is Apple iPod Camera Connector (M9861) available but reviews don't cover the Touch and there's conflicting reports.
Already you can now get a useful photo retouching App (Picoli) which makes life even easier.
    Fingers crossed I guess!

  • Extended desktop for airplay

    I've got a 2013 MBA w/ Mount. Lion.
I would like to mirror my second (or third) desktop on TV by airplay, while working on a separate desktop on the computer screen.
Is this possible? (it looks like no)
    If yes, how?
If not, is there any software which can do this? Also are there any rumors that Apple is working on this.
It's such a crucial function (extended deskop) that I've never thought it is not possible in Apple computers.
    Thank you

    Hey pasink,
Great question! Apple will introduce this feature with the release of OS X Mavericks, coming this fall:
Apple - OS X Mavericks - Do even more with new apps and features.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/#multiple-displays
    Multiple Displays
Do more on this screen. And that one.
OS X Mavericks takes full advantage of every display connected to your Mac, giving you even more flexibility to work the way you want. There’s no longer a primary or secondary display — now each has its own menu bar, and the Dock is available on whichever screen you’re working on. You can have multiple app windows running on either display. Or run an app full screen on each one. Even show a desktop on one display and a full-screen app on another. Mission Control can give you a bird’s-eye view, making it easy to drag what you want where you want it. You can even drag it across the room, because now AirPlay and Apple TV can wirelessly turn your HDTV into a fully functional display.
With AirPlay and Apple TV, your HDTV works as a fully functional display. So while you’re using your TV to present a slideshow or stream a video lecture, you can take notes on your Mac or chat using Messages.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Refurb iPad questions

My family just bought a refurbished 3rd-generation iPad from a third-party web store. The refurb iPad appears to be the same as this model on the Apple Store, but with a deeper discount price tag: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD330LL/A/refurbished-ipad-with-wi-fi-64gb-whi te-3rd-generation
    I have a few questions:
1: will this model be able to update to iOS 8?
2: none of us have experience with iOS devices. Is there a database of iPad software that will help us seek out and identify an app that can be used for timing outdoor sled dog races? Some races are two-day races, with the total times added for both days to get the "final" total time.
3: Can an iPad like this be used to connect wirelessly to an HDTV or a digital projector to deliver presentations? Will this iPad be able to do this right out of the box, or do we need to add something?
4: In a discussion thread on a Tom Bihn forum, an Apple education sales employee posted a video demonstrating his use of a backpack as a mobile office.
    http://www.tombihn.com/forums/photos-videos-reviews/6905-my-first-whats-my-bag-v ideo-synapse-25-a.html
His video showed how he carries all that he needs to use an iPad Mini, AppleTV and other accessories to make digital business presentations wirelessly while pitching to education clients on-the-road. Will this refurb iPad be able to do the same thing, using the same accessories he shows in his video? The reason I ask is that my family has a regional business and they may want to take the iPad to make presentations while on the road. I was wondering if a similar setup would work for them.
5: This refurb is sold through a third-party web-store. Does that mean there will be no warranty?
6: What accessories will my family need to recharge this iPad while on the road, using a car's ciggie lighter / power port? Are there any really good quality accessories that they can seek out for this?

You didn't say which model of iPad you got - is it the WiFi only or the WiFi+3G model?
iPad 3rd Gen came out in March 2012 and was discontinued in Nov 2012 when the 4th Gen model came out -- see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPad for the iPad history of different models.
iPad 3 will work with iOS 6, 7 or 8 - but before updating to a specific iOS version you might want to make sure of the apps you wanna use and which iOS version they require. Once you upgrade you can't go backwards, so keep that in mind.
As far as a timing app for sled dog races a quick check on the App Store didn't show anything related to sled dog racing timing, but found something called "Race Beacon" from Vega Discoveries - see https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/race-beacon/id866715826?ls=1&mt=8 for more info. I would think any generic timing app would work that can do multi-day events.
Keep in mind that only 3G iPad models (not the WiFi only ones) have GPS capability, but it uses a lot of battery according to the Race Beacon app -- "Please be aware: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life."
Using the iPad to put up presentations to projectors is doable but with a MacBook driving the projector and the iPad streaming to the MacBook using something like AirPlay to software like AirParrot or Reflector type apps. You can also send your iPad screen images to an AppleTV but have not personally done this (I have used iPad 3 with Reflector and AirParrot). See this for lots of ideas on using iPad video streamed to other devices:
    http://learninginhand.com/blog/5-ways-to-show-your-ipad-on-a-projector-screen.ht ml
As for the warranty, call Apple and give them the serial number of the iPad to check if it's still under any AppleCare extended warranty and if it is you should be able to take advantage of it -- see https://www.apple.com/support/products/faqs.html for details.
Another couple of apps I really like are AudioNote by Luminant Software (see http://luminantsoftware.com/iphone/audionote.html for more info) - it does both audio and regular notes and keeps track of written notes and when they happened during the audio recording. Very handy and easy to keep track of when things occurred during the audio recording session and they make an OS X version as well. My favorite app of all time for the iPad is called "Elements" - amazing graphics about all the periodic table elements - really shows the graphics power of the iPad and has all kinds of stories about how elements got named, what they are used for and all kinds of trivia about the things that make up this universe -- see http://apps.theodoregray.com/the-elements/?tpnav=1 for more info.
Have fun with your new iPad and good luck in the dog sled races.

  • Often lose wireless connection when using HDTV as monitor

I have an unusual wireless networking problem when using my Samsung HDTV in my living room as a monitor for my MacBook (when watching Internet TV shows, for example). Frequently when I switch URLs, networking freezes, even though the connection appears strong, with the Airport symbol at the top of my screen showing all bars. To re-establish the wireless connection, I have to go through the process of re-joining my network through the “Join Other Network" option. The signal holds as long as I don’t try to change it, as in selecting another URL.
I connect to my HDTV via HDMI cable, using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter from my Macbook’s video-out port. The audio connection is a mini-plug from the Mac’s headphone out jack to stereo RCA plugs associated with the TV’s HDMI port.
The wireless connection is through a Lynksys Wireless-G 2.4 Ghz, 54 Mpbs Broadband router.
I’d appreciate any solutions the Apple user community has to offer.

I'd say this has nothing to do with your display. The problem will likely lie in either your router settings, network settings or a simple signal strength issue. Try first changing the broadcast channel on your router, and make sure all settings are correct for your desired network.

  • Can I connect my MacBook Air wirelessly to my Panasonic Viera HDTV

I would like to connect my MacBook Air to my Panasonic Viera HDTV wirelessly, so that we can view family photos, videos etc on the large flat screen. Is it possible and, if so, how do I go about it?

I believe you would need an Apple TV:
    https://www.apple.com/appletv/
FWIW, you are not running iOS (any version) on a Mac computer, it would be Mac OS 10.x.x (which is helpful for anyone trying to help you).

  • I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • How can I connect my new macbook pro to HDTV, either wirelessly or via a cable?

I just got a Macbook Pro about a month ago and I'm trying to figure out how to connect it to my HDTV. Is it possible to connect it and simply use the HDTV as a display that way?
Ideally, I'd like to connect it wirelessly, but if not, I understand that a cable should work. I tried to look for a cable from one of the Macbook Pro's ports to the HDMI port on the tv... but couldn't find anything. My old Macbook had a DVI port and I don't think it exist anymore (unless I'm missing it).
    Hope to hear back soon.
    Guy

If your MBP can use it, I highly recommend the following adapter:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/H1824ZM/A/Moshi_Mini_DisplayPort_to_HDMI_Adapt er
I'd be very surprised if it doesn't have a capable mini DisplayPort, since my not-quite-one-year-old MBP does.  But to be sure, first make sure you've got a mini DisplayPort, then scroll down on the page above and find a user comment titled "How you know if it is supported w/o guessing."

  • How do I connect my Canon wireless to iPhoto

I bought a Canon Elph 300HS wireless camera.  I want to have the pictures I take go into iPhoto.
    How do I do this?

iPhoto has no such ability. You'll need to establish contact between the camera and the Mac before iPhoto can see it. I'd ask Canon.
