Iphoto with two macs

Hello
I have a fairly old MacBook (purchased ~2006) that seems to be really struggling with iPhoto 11 and the volume of pictures.
I also have a iMac (purchased ~2009) that I am wondering might help solve things.  It has never been used for iPhoto before.
I'm using iLife 11
My challenge was how to get pictures off of our camera when we are travelling.  Previously we would take the older MacBook and synch to iPhoto there.
My idea was to not have to buy more software and do something like this:
1. Copy the iPhoto library from the old mac to the new one (using the option key to select the library on startup)
2. Delete the library on the old computer - i.e. start over
3. While traveling, import the new photos
4. Once home, somehow export them from the MacBook and import to the iMac
Is this logical?  Any other creative ideas?

That sounds like it would work fine.  Just export the folders from your MB when you get home and transfer to the iMac which will hold your master library

  • Synching iPhoto on two Macs

I've read some older discussions on synching iPhoto between two Macs but is there anything new on this. I'd like to have the same library on both Macs.

Brie Fly is right. You can't do a straight sync. Doing so will make sure each folder in each library has the same files but it can't sync the database files that tell iPhoto which photos are where. Each library will just appear the same and may eventually have problems with all those "unofficial" files in it's library. You can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to merge photos from each library into the other. It would not be automatic in that you'd have to know which are new. You might use the "Last X rolls" feature to do that. But it will copy them and maintain the rolls, album, keyword and other metadata information. I've not used it but many users have reported successful merges with it.

  • How to share iphoto with two users in the same imac maverick

I can´t find the way to share iphoto/itunes with two users in the same imac with maverick software

In conclusion, the new software is worse than the old one, really?  Because in my old mac I could share easily without copy with an external USB
It's not iPhoto that dropped the ball but the system.  I believe it was Mavericks that broke the Shared folder compatibility for iPhoto, not iPhoto itself.
Also having the library on an external HD is a good way of freeing up space on the boot drive to assure optional system and application performance.

  • Using Aperture with two .Mac accounts

I am moving all of my photos into Aperture 2, and we have two .Mac accounts for my office, one for business and one personal. My assistant's machine is set to the business .Mac account and my machine to my personal .Mac account.
I would like to keep all of my photos in Aperture but deploy the photos into web galleries and websites on both .Mac accounts. I can see how to handle the web pages by outputting to disk and then dragging them into the right folder in each iDisk. But I can't see how to do this with web galleries. In the past, I've tried changing the .Mac account in the system preferences and then using iPhoto and iWeb. This doesn't seem like a good solution.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? Right now, I've having to export the photos from Aperture and import them into iPhoto on my assistant's machine and then publishing the web galleries from her machine. There has to be a better way.
    Thanks,
    Alfred

Multiple User accounts are the answer.
Each is independent of the other and stores your iWeb files (on the same machine).

  • Sharing ITunes/IPhoto with another MAC?

Have a Mac Pro on Snow Leopard and Mac Mini on Tiger. Also have a wireless Airport Extreme.
Am I able to have one ITunes/IPhoto library and share with the other Mac without using a Network Media Center? Thinking about the Iomega Home Media Network Drive. If able, assume would be best to put everything on the Mac Pro since I have so much space than the Mac Mini.

The Mac Mini isn't set up to share - it is running Tiger, how do I set it up to share with the Mac Pro? Is there something I need to do to the Pro to allow it to share with the mac mini?
I believe that the sharing declaration is done entirely in iTunes and iPhoto. It's easy to try. Launch iTunes, open its preferences window, select the "Sharing" pane, and select "Share my library on my local network". Then see if that Mac's music appears under the "Shared" heading in the iTunes sidebar on another Mac.

  • Can you setup handoff to work with two mac computers on the same network?

I am attempting to setup handoff to work with two computers on the same network. I cannot seem to get it to work. Should I be able to?

I'm not sure but I haven't seen anything on the Apple site that indicates that it would not work. The following troubleshooting documents may help: Get help using Continuity with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite - Apple Support
Note in particular the Mac models supported. The other thing that occurs to me is that in addition to being on the same network they would have to be within Bluetooth range of each other.

  • What are some cool things you can do with TWO Macs (one MBP and one MB)?

What are some interactions that can happen between two Macs?
I have a MacBook Pro, and my sister just bought a MacBook for herself.
I can sense that there must be something cool we can do between them, because it's Apple !
Any input would be appreciated, thanks and happy holidays.

You can use Bonjour to setup a file-exchange network easily and efficiently.
You can use iChat to create a video conference on your home network.
If you are into power processing, I personally have set up a miniature render farm with 3 machines all processing 3d scenes to make my own 3d movies and special effects.
You can share music through iTunes music sharing, and listen to each others music, video, and whatever-else libraries.
And thats all I can think of as of now. Hope that helps!

  • Using time capsule with two macs

    Hi
I am using a MBP and an iMac. Is it possible to set up TC to save work from the two macs?

Ah, that's good to know, i was thinking that it may only be used for one dedicated mac.  Ok, so at the moment I have my MBP linking with TC wirelessly. I want to do the same for my iMac, do i just set it up the same way? If so does TC then just save both without conflict, or does one have to partition TC?

  • 802.1x phone with two MAC address

    Hello,
I have following scenario: Computers are connected behind phones, and phones are authenticating with MAB. The problem is with phones, because they have two mac addresses one is in voice vlan and another is in data vlan. Both phone and computer are authenticated successfully but when switch sees additional MAC address of phone in data vlan it shuts down port. Here is sample configuration:
    interface FastEthernet0/1
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 10
    switchport voice vlan 15
    authentication host-mode multi-domain
    authentication port-control auto
    dot1x pae authenticator
    authentication violation shutdown
    mab
    spanning-tree portfast

Can you verify if the phone's mac address is being learned on the data vlan and the voice vlan? Because cisco phones use cdp to discover if a voice vlan is configured on the switchport before forwarding traffic.
Please issue a show mac address table interface x/y after bouncing the port to see what is causing the port to error disable.
Also what version of code is running on the switch and phone?
    Thanks

  • Using POP Mail With Two Macs?

Is it possible to use two Macs with Apple Mail? I use Mail on my iMac, and I would like to set it up on my PowerBook as well. The only problem is accessing the same mail on both computers. It seems like if I were to open a message, it would store it on the respective computer that I open it with, and I would not be able to access it with the other. Is it possible to set it up where I can see the same messages on both? I use GMail. Thanks.

Like Kappy said, it's a hassle if you are using pop mail. But no problem with imap because the "master" copy is always maintained on the imap server, and your two computers are, essentially, nothing more than mirror sites.
I don't know if GMail is pop or imap.
What you would have to do for a pop account is set up account prefs to leave message on server after downloading on at least one of the computers, if not both of them. If you do that with both, I expect you will be hearing from your pop provider real soon about excessive disk space use. If you only do it to one computer, make sure that it is the one you will always be downloading mail from first. Plus, I can't remember whether that would cause multiple copies to download or not, on subsequent mail checks, when mail is left on server; it has been so long since I have had to play that game with pop servers.
Again, imap is no problem, because imap was designed to address this very problem.

  • Sharing one monitor and keyboard with two Macs

    Hi,
I have two Macs - one Pro and one G5. I want to be able to use both easily, using just one keyboard and monitor. Can anyone recommend the best way of doing this, and what splitter I should buy?
    Thanks!

    Hi
I like the Belkin Flip - it's really simple for a 2-computer setup and works well with the Mac.

  • Share library with two Macs

I am using an iPhoto Libary from different accounts (on one Mac). I can alter anything from each account and the changes have the same effect with the other account. The only restriction is that iPhoto will open with one account at the time.
I am looking for the same thing with Aperture 1.5, but with different Macs. With iPhoto this would probably mean having the library online all the time on the 'primary' Macs, plus slow browsing performance on the 'secondary' Mac when connection through Airport. Since it seems that Aperture makes JPG preview images in high resolution for offline viewing I wonder if I can use it as follows:
iMac 24-inch as main user for importing and managing photos
PowerBook 15 inch (meets requirements) for online and offline viewing in Aperture and iPhoto
    iMac G4 800/PowerBook 15   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hello, Yoram
Quote: "iMac 24-inch as main user for importing and managing photos

Unless I am mistaken when you purchase Aperture you can load it onto your desktop and also your laptop in which case you can have access to the Aperture Library and make previews of the photographs on the portable and view, rate, metadata, catalog, search, them.
Go to the Aperture Help menu and read the "New Features" pdf for an overview of what you described.

  • Speaker buzz/hum with two Macs

I have recently purchased a Mac Pro Dual 2.8 Quad Core Xeon to go with my crusty MBP 2.16. I am using a Yamaha speaker system (2 desktop satellites and a sub). The Yamaha has two 1/8" inputs on the back of the subwoofer. When I plug the two computers in, one input each, the Yamaha system emits a prominent buzzing/bassy hum. This doesn't occur with either computer plugged in alone, only when both are plugged in. I tried using a Y cord so that both would go into one input, and it still buzzed/hummed. I seem to recall this same thing happening years ago with a different brand of speaker system. Is there a way to hook the two Macs up without the humming?? Any help appreciated. Thanks!

    Hello pingvuiini,
It almost sounds like you have a ground loop happening.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundloop%28electricity%29
Are both comps plugged into the same power?
Have you switched the 1/8" cables around to see if one is bad?
Does it buzz if you unplug the MBP from power and run from the battery?
Do you have any audio cables laying on top of the computer power supplies?
Sorry to hit you with so many questions so quickly.
I have a very similar set up:
    Yamaha speakers w/sub
    (2) 1/8" inputs
MacPro 2.8 quad and a powerbook conected, no buzz.
I would check these things first.
    Good luck!

  • Is Thunderbolt file transfer working with two mac?

    Simple Question.
I have two mac with Thunderbolt input.
Connect two mac with thunderbolt cable.
and i want transfer files like useing as firewire,Ethernet.
i can't add thunderbolt service in Network preference.
    what did i missing?

Hey. I have IMac late 20013 with SSD and one Macbook Air SSD, both running maveriks.
After connecting them with Thunderbolt activating the interface on both under network and closeing the wifi on one of them. TB file transfer worked just fine. But if wifi was on it tends to prefer that interface and get much slower transfer. I tested with a 1gb file and it took about a second. So yes. Filetransfer works with out jumping in to target mode.

  • Sharing an i book created in iphoto with another .mac user

I need to have another .mac user look at an i book that I have created in i photo. Does this person have to have a .mac website for this to work? If not, how would he view this?

Thanks so much for your answer, I saved it as a PDF and stored in
on iDisc in the public folder as you suggested. Now he can access that
by going to his iDisc, and 'Other User's Public Folder. Thanks for your
help. Are you with Apple, or just an individual?
    Laurie:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Do you want your
friend to be able to work with the book in iPhoto or
    just look at it?
If it's just look at it then do a Print to PDF and
send them the pdf file. If it's too large to email
then you an post it to your Public folder on your
    iDisk for them to download.
If you want them to work on it in iPhoto then there's
no easy way to accomplish that. One method would be
    the following:
1 - duplicate you iPhoto Library folder and name it
    Book Library.
2 - open the Book library (launch iPhoto with the
Option key depressed and, when asked, opt to locate
the Book library and open it.
3 - delete all of the photos except those in the
book, all albums, slideshows and any non book items.
4 - now you can either burn the Book library folder
to a CD and get it to your friend or make an archive
of it (Control-click on the Book library folder and
select Create archive in the contextual menu) and
upload that to your iDisk Public folder where your
    friend can download it.
You friend can then unzip the library folder and open
    it as noted above.
    Do you
    Twango?
    TIP:
    For insurance against the
iPhoto database corruption that many users have
experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the
Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If
problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any
photos or thinks there are no photos in the library,
replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the
backup will often get the library back. By keeping
it current I mean backup after each import and/or any
serious editing or work on books, slideshows,
calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem
pops up and you do need to replace the database file,
you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long
to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application
(requires Tiger), iPhoto dB file backup, that
will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your
iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder,
replacing any previous version of it. You can
    download it at Toad's
Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf
    file.
