IPhoto witn Adobe Photoshop Elements 4

Hi
I wish to use Adobe Photoshop elements 4, in conjunction with iPhoto.
So I would like to purchase a video tutorial to assist me in using Adobe Photoshop with Mac. However whilst I can find a Windows version of video tutorials, I have been unable to find a Mac version.
Can anyone give me a Web address where I could find this software?
One problem I am trying to overcome is that when Adobe photoshop is loaded, it takes up the full screen, I would like to be able to also have iPhoto on screen as well, so that I could simply drag photos straight to Photoshop for editing. Is this possible?
Thanks for any advice.

Can't help you with the first part of your query.
However:
so that I could simply drag photos straight to Photoshop for editing. Is this possible?
If you drag photos from iPhoto then they are exported, and the changes you make will be to the exported file, not to the one in iPhoto.
The correct way to use PSE with iPhoto is to configure it as an external editor. If you do this then
double click a pic in the iPhoto Window and it will open automatically in PSE
save a pic in PSE and it's saved back to iPhoto automatically
To set a PSE as an external editor, go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> General Pane. At EDIT IN from the drop down menu, choose Other app, then navigate to PSE.

Can anyone tell me how to get my pics in iPhoto into Adobe Photoshop Elements?

Are you talking about iPhoto for iOS or iPhoto on your Mac?
If iPhoto for iOS export the photo to iTunes. Then sync with your Mac and drag the photos out of the file sharing section of iTunes on your Mac. Then open them in Adobe Photoshop Elements.
If iPhoto on your Mac then export the photos. I believe that's Menu > File > Export.
Select export at full resolution and choose a location for the files. Once they have been exported you can open them in Adobe Photoshop Elements.

  • IPhoto with Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 and Adobe Bridge

I have not used iPhoto before now as I have been downloading photos from my Canon and Nikon cameras using their software. I have now moved everything into iPhoto but cannot find iPhoto using Adobe Bridge so I am unable to do any editing using Elements 4. Previously I could find the Canon and Nikon photos using Adobe Bridge. With a simple click on the relevant photo it opened up in Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 and I was able to edit it. Now using Bridge I simply cannot find iPhoto thus I cannot use PSE4. Can someone help before I go crazy ? I havde called Apple support but they have been unable to help me and suggested using Discussions@Apple

Many thanks for your quick response although, as a new iMac user, the mere mention of the word "corrupt" scares me ! I previously used a PC with Windows XP and PSE3 and loved being able to sort all my photos into albums with PSE3. Unfortunately the PSE4 which I have installed on my iMac doesn't let users sort their photos into albums and the only alternative is Adobe Bridge. I only recently started to use iPhoto after a visit to an Apple Store and it's great being able to catalog my photos so easily. Unfortunately PSE is far and away superior to any editing software that iPhoto has to offer. Anyway, I'll cross my fingers and try your suggestion first thing tomorrow morning.

  • Using photos from iphoto in adobe photoshop elements

I'm new to the mac world. I do a lot of casual digital photography. I like to edit pictures and create things in photoshop elements.
I'm trying to make sure I'm opening photos from the correct folder in the iphoto library.
I think either using photos in the modified or original photos is the proper way? Any input.
Also, can I create new folders within the iphoto library (finder side) to better organize my photos? I had pictures broken down by month on my pc and iphoto seems to only group by year. It makes locating the proper picture in photoshop elements easier if the pictures are broken down by month.
I know I can use folders and albums within iphoto, but those catagories don't show up when trying to open photos in elements.
    Thanks for your input!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There ias a caveat to using PSE with iPhoto. It is: if you create a layered file or do edits that causes PSE to want to save as a .psd file you must either flatten the file and force PSE to save as a jpg or do a Save As to the Desktop and import the new file. Subsequent edits to that new psd file from within iPhoto like Terence pointed out can proceed normally.
Using 2 Image Editors in iPhoto
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and a 3rd party editor without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected the 3rd party editor as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". Then when you Control-click on an image, you can select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu to edit in your selected editor.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • IPhoto and Adobe photoshop elements 4.0

I recently downloaded adobe so that I could do more editing with my photos then iPhoto would allow. However, now I don't have access to my photos so that I can put them in slide shows with iHD or iDVD. They don't show up in iPhoto and I can't get them to import into iPhoto from Adobe. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

To expand on Terence's post a bit, if you use PSE as your editor of choice in iPhoto via iPhoto's preferences and edit a file it may be changed to a psd file during the Save process. You'll be presented with the navigation save window in PS. If that occurs you can take one of two routes:
1 - navigate to the Desktop and save the psd file as a new file and then import it into iPhoto.
2 - cancel the save, to to the Layers pane and flatten the image. Then save as a jpg. You'll get the smaller save window where you select the quality of the jpg and the type of format, Baseline, Baseline Optimized or Progressive) You'll want to choose Baseline. If you select this type of save the edited version will be saved in the Modified folder and the thumbnail will be updated as it should.

  • How to import photos from iPhoto Library to Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor?

I can't use Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor to edit photos from iPhoto Library. If I choose File, Open, and then select 'iPhoto Library', error message is "could not complete your request because of a program error."

You can't do it that way. Any attempt to poke around in the iphoto library from outside iphoto is very likely to damage the library and cause you to lose your photos, so PSE won't let you. You have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photos from iphoto, and save them without changing the name or format (you may need to adjust the editor prefs>Saving Files>On First Save to let you do this). Then iphoto will remember your original and the last edited version.
Be sure to choose this file in Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10>Support files as your external editor, not the one at the top level of the PSE 10 folder in Applications:
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use File>Open in the PSE editor to open the images and then save them with whatever changes to name or format you like, and reimport the saved images to iphoto as new files. This way you can save as many versions as you like.

  • How do I get IPhoto pictures over to Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Windo

I was told I can use Windows edition of Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0 with my .Mac IPhoto. Question is: How do I get them from IPhoto to Photoshop?
I have a 20 inch screen .Mac that was purchased Dec. 31, 2006. Not totally sure what model, it's my daughter's Mac. It has latest updates, though.

    You were misinformed.
The best you can do is export your pics from iPhoto, then transfer them to your windows machine.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 for Mac does not show up in Applications. Tutorial for editing from iPhoto shows selecting the Adobe software in Applications. Am I missing a step in registering product?

I answered my own question: There's a difference between "download' and "install." Hunt for "install" (1.5 hrs in my case) and line up your passwords, Adobe ID, etc, then install. Took 15 min. The right choice shows up in Applications. Now it's on to figuring out why photo selected for edit in iPhoto does not show up on screen in Elements.

  • Can I use Adobe Photoshop Element 11 to manage my photos rather than iPhoto?

What are the problems, if any, with by passing iPhoto and using Adobe Photoshop Elements 11?

Are you referring to actually managing the image files with the Adobe Elements 11 organizer as well as editing the photos or just use PSE 11 to edit the photos?
The latter is easy.  The former would have you abandon iPhoto, move you photos out of it to folders and then manage the folders and their contents.
What exactly are you wantng to do:  manage and edit or just edit.
By the way the file management capability of PSE is far less capable than the photo managementcapability of iPhoto which is a DAM (digital asset management) application.

  • Resetting iPhoto to Open as Photo Manager vs. Adobe Photoshop Elements

How do I reset iPhoto to open whenever I connect my SD card and have photos upload to iPhoto directly rather than to Adobe Photoshope Element's Bridge?
    Moms90

would that be reverting to default?
If you are referring to the "Revert to default" option for a modified photo--then no, that restores the "version" photo to the original "master" image. (I.e., modification of photos in iPhoto or Aperture is not applied permanently to the original photo so it unchanged in case you ever want/need to restore/re-modify it.)
I am referring to the "Preferences" window under the main application menu. If you click the "General" tab at the top of the preferences pane, the window displays a "Connecting camera opens;" line with a "pop-up" that allows you to select which application (e.g., iPhoto, Aperture, etc.) is to automatically open when the digital camera is detected.

  • Import photos from adobe photoshop elements (win) to Iphoto 08

    Hi,
I just got an imac and I want to import my old photos and adobe photoshop element tags from my windows machine. I want to keep the tags the same. Does any one have any suggestions?
    -D

Yes, use File>Write tags and properties to file and Elements should pick up the metadata keywords this creates. However, if you have raw files or tiffs from an epson scanner, the metadata creation can be unreliable.

  • Edit images in Adobe Photoshop Elements

I am helping a student who is running iPhoto on Maverick.  He wants to edit his images in Photoshop Elements.  We set his preferences to do this but when he selects an image and clicks on Edit, all he gets is the welcome page of Photoshop Elements.  The image doesn't open in Elements.  What could we be doing wrong?
    Mary Lou

Previous versions would install a folder with the file you want, Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor.app, buried one layer down in another folder named Support Files.  That's the one you want to select from iPhoto.
I don't know if the layout of the installed files is the same with the newest version. However, the following may be of help:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • Can't send photo from iPhoto 9 to Photoshop Elements 10.0

I just got a new iMac with Lion 10.7.2 and Photoshop Elements 10.0. In iPhoto 11. I set the preferences to use Photoshop Elements to edit photos. When I double click on a photo, Photoshop Elements Editor comes up, but there is no photo. There has been some discussion on this for earlier versions, but this is the latest available for both versions. I don't think I should have to go through hoops, trashing system files and stuff to get this to work.

Thank you. It worked. And it also explains why I always got the Adobe Photoshop Elements welcome screen evey time I opened Photoshop from the Dock. I had the wrong icon in the doc as well.

  • Moving images from iPhoto 11 to Photoshop Elements Organizer

I understand that iPhoto 11 kept all images within the iPhoto Library.  In order to move them into the Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer, they must be moved to the hard drive of the Mac and then imported into Elements 12 Organizer.
Is there any way to do this in one step?
    Mary Lou

If you want to keep the photos organized by the Events they are currently in use this export setup:
If you want to keep the keywords, titles and descriptions added in iPhoto change Kind to JPEG and set JPEG Quality to Maximum and check both checkboxes.
