IPhoto won't install/download after updating Maverick

Good afternoon,
I have updated my OS from ML to Maverick since Apple released the new update. Bundled with the OS updates, there were a few other apps update which includes iPhoto, iMovie etc. I have successfully updated every apps except for iPhoto and everytime I press on the update button on App Store, the updating process freezes there and it does not update.
Now that I have tried deleting iPhoto and re-initiate the iPhoto installation from app store again, the update process still freezes and I get a 'blue' bar at the Launchpad icon whereby it does not state the 'Downloading - x MB of xMB, neither can I launch the  grayed-out iPhoto app in the launchpad. Can someone please help? I need to retrieve photos from my iPhone for my assignments and this process is obstructing my progression.
I created a iPhoto backup on the desktop and deleted the initial iPhoto from the applications folder and opened up my app store again and this is what I got:
Restored the backup copy from desktop to Applications folder, still not working.

Read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data.
Quit the App Store application if it’s running.
Step 1
Hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.appstore
Caches/com.apple.storeagent
Caches/storeagent
Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist
Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.appstore.plist
Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.storeagent.plist
Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist
Leave the Library folder open. Log out and log back in. Try the App Store again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
Step 2
If you still have problems, quit again. Go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop:
Cookies/com.apple.appstore.plist
Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist
Test. If the App Store now works, delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, quit again. Put back the files you moved, overwriting the newer ones that may have been created in their place, and continue.

You need to reinstall as iPhoto is missing bits of itself.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Illustrator update won't install, even after uninstalling and retrying multiple times.

Illustrator update won't install, even after uninstalling (using the "Uninstall Adobe Illustrator CS6" app and retrying (using Adobe Application Manager}multiple times. Now I can't open AI CS6 at all.
The error message I get in Application Manager is:
"Application could not be found. Restore in case it was trashed/moved to a different volume. Reinstall the application otherwise (U44M1P2B)"
    Help!

Can you please try installing the Adobe Application Manager from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4774.
If that doesn't work then the safest course would be to remove all Adobe Creative Software using the uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers.  This should then remove the Adobe Application Manager folder also inside Utilities.  Once the software is completely uninstalled and the Adobe Application Manager is removed then you should be able to reinstall from https://creative.adobe.com/.

  • ITunes won't open up after updating...

    oh no. it won't.
i download the update, i install it succesfully, i open up iTunes and...that's it, it bumps in the dock once and then it disappears without opening up.
Then the only thing that can restore a working version of iTunes is deleting it with appDelete and reinstalling the 7.1.1 version...yes, because all the later updates won't work in any case. None of them.
anyone got an idea? actually i don't need to install the newer version of itunes, but id like to solve it
    thanks

Do you get an error message when you try to launch iTunes? If so, what does it say? (Precise text, please.)

My iPad mini won't install the latest update because there isn't enough stprGe. I have deleted everything from my iPad and there still isn't enough storge.

Connect your iPad to your computer and run iTunes. Select your iPad in iTunes and try to run the update there. Updating requires a lot less free space on the iPad when updating through iTunes on a computer because the update files will be downloaded to and extracted on the computer.

  • Installing downloaded software updates

I'm having a bit of an epic trying to install downloaded software updates. My internet connection is via a USB dongle in a very poor signal area. I downloaded the updates for OS X 10.5.4 and it took me about 36 hours for the download alone. When I tried to install them I got a 'Software Update' box with a bar that was supposedly to fill in with blue shading. Only a tiny bit of the bar filled in and it remained like that for 8 hours the first time I tried and 12 hours the second time. On both occasions text above the bar said 'Installing 3 (or whatever) items' and text below the bar said 'Configuring Installation'. Nothing else happened, for hours. Eventually I simply switched off. I assume I have the software updates on my mac but just can't install them. How can I install them? And if I can't install them are they available to buy on disc? Or should I sell up and move to the city to live in broadband heaven? As you can see, it is all a bit time consuming and I'm not that literate in this sort of thing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Klaus1. I phoned an Apple store and they would only update my iMac if I brought it in but that would be a massive round trip for me (probably 9 hours). I then phoned AppleCare and they bluntly said that they could not send me a disc with the updates. Not good enough. There won't be too many mac users in the UK in the same situation as me so it wouldn't be too costly for Apple to post out updates to mac users who can prove their remoteness (postcodes, for example, could be used). Effectively what Apple seem to be saying is that if you can't access a strong signal then you will be disadvantaged and we will do nothing to help. Like I said, not good enough.
I'll sort it out in the end but I did expect more from AppleCare. I would happily pay them but even that made no impression on them.
    Thanks again.

You can't install the App Store version of Mavericks because your model needs a special version. If you ever need to reinstall it, boot into Recovery.

Mac OSx won't boot up after update to 10.6.7?

    Hi Mike
This is called a kernel panic, similar to s 'blue screen of death' on Windows. When you say you reinstalled 3 times, do you mean the OS or the Update?
When does this kernel panic appear? You may have a hardware issue if it's happening on boot.

Firstly I updated my ipad into ios7 and after watching the video by Apple, iWork, pages and numbers are free for download after updating iOS 7. How can I download iWork pages and number for free? Please help me.

stevejobsfan is correct; iwork for ios is free only for new purchases of new ios devices. A good work around (if you have wifi connectivity) is going to the icloud website on your ipad, and working on your document.
A word of caution (the real reason I am responding to your post). If you do a lot of 'formatting' of a document on iwork for mac, and then save it in icloud; you will probably loose most of the formatting you have done (this will be true if you oppen the document in iwork for ios; also) It happened to me, and I did not duplicate the document before saving it to icloud; I lost at least an hours worth of work.

  • After effects won't install from cloud on mavericks

I've downloaded after effects from the cloud and it keeps failing to install. I'm running new mavericks os?

Be sure that you are signed in and have activated the software—i.e., ensure that you are not running After Effects in free trial mode. The update will not work if you are running the application in trial mode. Sign in to Creative Cloud using any Adobe Creative Cloud application on your computer to activate all Adobe Creative Cloud applications on that computer.
Tip: If you’re not using a trial version, but you’re seeing the message that the update is not applicable, try one of these tips to force the application to be recognized as activated: Sign out of and then back in to Creative Cloud to refresh the activation state. Also, launching the After Effects render engine (not the full After Effects application) can refresh the activation; the render engine doesn’t have the crashing problem that the full unpatched application does. Finally, if neither of these works, uninstalling and then re-installing After Effects CC (12.0) can help.

  • IPhoto '11 (9.3) - Won't upgrade library after update to 9.3 (gets stuck on Step 5)

Two weeks ago I upgraded iPhoto to 9.3 using the automatic Apple updater.  Thereafter, when I try to re-start iPhoto, iPhoto automatically attempts to upgrade the library using multiple steps.  Each time the process gets stuck on one of the steps, hanging for as long as I'd let it.  Force quit doesn't show the process/application as not responding, but I can kill the applicaiton and try again.
I see this is a somewhat common occurrence (for example, here), but I haven't yet found a solution that works, at least not for me.
Since this problem has started occurring, the process tends to get stuck at the end of step 5:
I have tried multiple solutions, including holding down alt/option or control when starting iPhoto for force a rebuild of the library (same result).  I reinstalled iPhoto from the App store (same result).  I went back to a version of my iPhoto library from before the problem started using a Time Machine backup of the iPhoto Library (same result).  And in response to some threads suggesting removing the files like com.apple.iPhoto.plist (see here) but I can't find any "com.apple.iPhoto.*" files on my HD.  Interestingly (maybe) I don't have a HD -> Users -> Home -> Library directory at all.  I only have a HD -> Library directory (although perhaps this is where it shows up for my primary account when I'm using this account).
I'd be very grateful for any help/suggestions/guidance.
For example, is there a log file showing the date that I upgraded to the newest iPhoto release so I can be sure I'm restoring an older iPhoto library?  Any other ideas?
    Many thanks!
    -DJg

I have try to do few things like rebuild library, intalling old version etc. at the end always i got images and events but I loose folders and albums.
    So finally
I bought external drive to make a copy of my images
I found my old backup of MAC OS X before upgrade to Lion and install them
All folers are existing so now I can imoprt only images from last two months and rearrange them into folders.
I will stay with version 9.2.3 and wait at least 1-2 month before I will install any new update from Apple.

  • Won't boot up after update 10.4.7

Help! I downloaded the update from 10.4.6 (didn't see if it was 10.4.7 but assume it was). Now I start up with a grey screen headed
Panic(cpu 0 caller OX0019CAEF) unresolved kernel trap cpu 0 Type 6=invalid opcode) registers
and on for many more lines which mean nothing to me, but I'll type them in if it will mean something to anyone.
Machine was new in March, and had additional 512mb ram pre-installed. No problems apart from failing to network with G4 and G3 running 9.2, until this download (which indicated it resolved some networking problems).
I've taken out both the original and additional ram, tried it with each on their own, with no difference.
It will restart from installation disk and I've re-set permissions and done a disk check which it errors before completing.
I've done a hardware check which is ok.
I've tried installing a clean system and it errors just before completion.
I've tried to use the Firmware Restoration which is supposed to restore the firmware after an interrupted or failed update - but the LED on my MacBook doesn't flash in the sequence indicated in the instructions and doesn't do the restoration.
It has been suggested by the dealer that I reformat the hard drive, but I have some photos that aren't backed up yet that I really don't want to lose. I've tried starting it in Target disk mode, in order to transfer them to another computer, but 3 other computers I've tried to link it to won't do anything.
I'd be grateful for any guidance!

Have you tried rebooting the machine in safe mode? Restart the machine, and as soon as you hear the chime, hold down the SHIFT key, until you see the grey screen. If it boots, you will see the login screen, and it will say (in red letters) SAFE MODE. This disables a good many of the features such as Airport, but also refrains from loading anything other than Apple kernel extensions. You can then log in, and either attempt to fix your problem, or at least offload your stuff that needs backed up so that you can try a reinstall.
