IPhoto won't let me import photos from my camera

I've been uploading my pictures from my camera to iPhoto for a while now and suddenly it's telling me that it can't import the photos because they're unreadable files but they're all jpegs! What do I do???

Will Image capture (in your applications foldr) see them and bring to disk? If so then once they are safely off the memory card and on disk use the camera's format command to reformat the memory card
and can you impoprted to iPhtoo from disk? Will preview open the photos on disk?

  • Iphoto won't let me import photos from my iphone5

I go to iPhoto on my Mac Desktop (Version 10.9.3) and plug in my iPhone 5 and it recognizes my phone. But when i go to click to import photos, none of my photos will show up even after hours of waiting. Other iPhone 5's in the house have the same problem. I've been able to import photos before with ease, but now they won't even show up!

With your iPhone connected by USB open iTunes.
When a dialog comes up in iTunes, confirm, that you trust your Mac on the iPhone., when the "Do you trust this Mac"  comes up on your iPhone.

  • Lightroom will not let me import photos from either camera or desktop. I can see them in the preview part of Lightroom but when I click import, just says they can't be read.  HELP!

Lightroom will not let me import photos from either my camera or my desktop. They show up in the preview bit of Lightroom and I select the ones i want to import, then add my metadata info etc and file handling, but then when I hit IMPORT just keeps saying they can't be read.  SO FRUSTRATING.

You are copying the photos. Does LR have the permission to delete the files from its source location - as DdeGannes suggested? Maybe this dialog is misleading.
Did you try to just add files copied to the destination before - just for finding the issue?
If nothing helps: Any chance you can upload one of the jpg to some file sharing service so we can have look at it?
I believe DdeGannes suggested permission on the Destination folder (not the source folder).  Performing a copy requires only Read&Write permission on the destination folder, not the source folder. You need to go into your operating system and change the permissions to Read&Write on the destination folder. (If you don't know how to do that, go to your favorite search engine and type in Change Permissions Mac)

  • Iphoto won't import photos from my camera

My hard drive crashed about 2 months ago and I had a new one installed. It worked great for the first month but then began importing my photos very slowly and now has stopped. It will still import/snyc from my iphone but has since, stopped importing photos from my camera.
It recognizes that my camera is plugged in and the window pops up that asks if I would like to import duplicates or not. I check the box and then it stalls. I've let it sit for hours and nothing.
Now, with my old hard drive, I was current with the newest updates. I just realized whoever that with the new hard drive in that I'm back at 6.0.6.
Would it help if I updated iphoto one by one until I get up to '11? or is there another fix for this version? I wouldn't mind keeping it if it WORKED for me... or is it my camera???
I'm not computer savvy at all so please give specific instructions as if you are speaking to a child.

How much free space do you have on your hard drive?

  • Iphoto won't let me drag photos to a directory

I've been using iphoto for years to import photos from my camera, now all the sudden it's changed its behavior. After importing the photos, I drag them to the directory of my choice in Finder, but now it won't let me. There's a little icon with a circle and diagonal line that follows the photo when I drag it, and it doesn't copy to the directory, it bounces back to iphoto. Anybody know why this is happening? I'm running Mac OS 10.5.8 and iphoto 7.1.5. I've dug through the preferences and can't find anything relevant, and of course, "Help" is worthless.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Rob

Well the reason it's not working is because iPhoto cannot find the files.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    As to the Workflow question
I don't want to use twice the disk space. I don't want a "Library". I just want the photos in the directories that I've created.
Then don't use iPhoto. Check out Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) for the job you want.

  • Since downloading Iphoto 11, we now cannot import photos from our Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ-15 camera. Any ideas out there as to why this is occuring. I can still import them onto my laptop which is running Iphoto9

Since downloading Iphoto 11 onto our desktop computer we now cannot import the photos from our Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ15 into Iphoto. However I can import them from the camera onto my Macbook which is still running Iphoto 9.
When I connect the camera and IPhoto loads, the spinning wheel just keeps on spinning and nothing happens, I have to Force Quit Iphoto to get out of the program. Totally frustrated, it would seem that it is an Iphoto 11 software problem.  Any suggestions out there?

    Terence,
not sure what happens here right now, I didn't mean to be offensive. So please let's stay calm. There are some issues with Panasonics described in these threads, and they do sound similar to the issue I'm facing (somewhat hard to say, as a) these people do not use exactly the same camera as I do and b) the descriptions of their problems are not very detailed). I would retract the term "a LOT of issues". Sorry.
Back in September I described my issue here
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3308591?start=0&tstart=0
but then the discussion there stopped. Since we were still able to import images manually into iPhoto (and took care of leaving out already imported pictures ourselves), we could live with this as a workaround.
Since everything worked well recently on my machine with the latest iPhoto version, I decided to upgrade iPhoto on my wife's Mac (where the import problems occured) from '09 to latest '11 (9.2.1). However, after that iPhoto still could not import from the Panasonic's SD card (rotating ball when inserting the card reader, and rotating ball after starting up iPhoto afterwards even w/o card reader plugged in, until the next reboot). So I re-built iPhoto's database (32000 images - 12 hours). Didn't help either. It worked however with a Casio Z-1000's SD card. Thus I re-formatted the Panasonic card yesterday and it seems to work since then.
My point is that I consider it weird that a SD card works with one Mac and doesn't work with another, although both use the same version of OS X and iPhoto. And, I'm somewhat doubtfull that re-formatting the card will  solve this issue permanently. I believe that I tried to re-format the card already back in September, when I dealt with the issue for the first time, but I have no prove of that.
I will keep an eye on it and will report here if the problem comes up again.
    Thank you for your help.
    Best wishes,
    Thomas.

  • HT2498 How do I import photos from my camera without being forced to use any silly mac software?

I haev a PC as well as a new Mac Mini.
It has always bugged me that Mac seems to force me to use a silly image managment software (like iphoto) to import photos from my camera when i plug it in.
On my PC (windows 7) it simply recognizes it as a "removable storage device" and i can access the flash memory as if it was a hard drive and simply drag my photos to a folder on my computer. (this same technique works with my iphone photos)
However on my Mac it seems there is no way to open up the flash memory and just drag photos off and manually import and manage my photos. I do not like all of the complicated software to complete a simple task like this.
Am i missing something? if so please fill me in. thanks!

Mac seems to force me to use a silly image managment software (like iphoto) to import photos from my camera
It does not force you to do that.
Open iPhoto, go to iPhoto / Preferences and change the setting so no application opens when the camera is connected.
Whether you change the setting or not, the camera does indeed appear as a "removable storage device". At least mine does:
And you can double click the camera icon and navigate the contents. The contents are shown exactly as they would be on any "storage device":
Thus you have the option in iPhoto preferences to let it do it for you, or do it yourself if that is your choice.

  • Trouble importing photos from Panasonic camera

I'm getting error messages when attempting to transfer photos from my Panasonic camera to my Mac. Details:
    * Running Lion 10.7.4 on MacBook Pro
    * iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2
    * Brand new Panasonic DMC-ZS20
    * SanDisk 4 GB SDHC card, which I formatted using the camera function when I first installed it
This was my first weekend with the camera and I went out and shot 300+ photos. Used the USB cable that came with the camera to hook it up to my MBP. On the camera screen I selected the "PC" option. Camera disk appeared on my desktop and iPhoto loaded. iPhoto recognized the camera and displayed all the photos correctly. The problems happened when I tried to import them. I selected "Import All" and the first few 4 or 5 imported OK, and then it just hung there (little spinning circle and one photo file name displayed). Finally after a few minutes, I got the error message "The disk was not ejected properly" even though I hadn't touched the camera or cable. Photos that managed to import were fine - no corruption. Steps I took to trouble-shoot:
    * Tried reconnecting to iPhoto and this time importing them one at a time. This worked for a few and then again, it go hung up. Thinking there might be an issue with one particular photo being corrupted, I tried different photos from different parts of the disk. There seemed to be no pattern to the issues. A photo would hang one time, but then import fine the second.
    * Thinking it might be an iPhoto issue, I quit iPhoto and just tried to drag photos from the camera disk directly to a folder on my hard drive. I was able to open the camera disk and locate the photos (file names were like P1000150.JPG). But the same things happened when I tried to copy them to my hard drive -- a few would copy and then it would get hung up. I got system error messages -36 and -43.
    * I tried restarting my computer and restarting my camera.
    * At one point my camera got so "confused" that it wouldn't turn off, or even recognize that I had unplugged it. I finally had to take the battery out to reset it.
    * Thinking it might be an issue with a faulty SD card, I loaded the card into my printer's card reader and was able to transfer all photos without any problems. Photos look great.
    * In a possibly related issue, I tried to load the GPS data from the CD that came with the camera to my SD card, but it the GPS data would not load. Even though the card was empty (this was the day I got the camera, before I took photos) it kept telling me it needed 1.6 GB of space and I only had like 45 MB available… I'm typing these numbers from memory, not sure they are exactly right, but the point is that I had an empty 4 GB card and there should have been plenty of room.
So, is there anything else I can try here? Has anyone else had problems with Panasonics and Macs? Could it be an SD card issue, even though it worked fine in the other card reader? Or do I have a defective camera and need to send it back?
    Thanks,
    Jill

I finally figured out the source of my problem. I (foolishly) was connecting the camera to my computer through a USB hub. Turns out the hub was the problem. When I connected the camera directly to my computer, it worked just fine. Just figured I would post in case anyone else has the same issue.

  • Using the sd card slot to import photos from digital camera?

Can't figure out how to use the sd port on my macbook to imports photos from my camera?

Take the SD card from the camera and put it into the sd port.
Open the software you use to manage photos and open the card....
Or copy the photos from the card to the HD.

  • I cant see how to import photos from my camera

I watched a video on how to import photos from a camera using Adobe Photoshop, based on this video I have downloaded the Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 but the Command G function to import photos from my camera doesnt appear to exist

    Hi Barbara
I see that this problem with creating a sub folder names as the shooting date has been an issue since 2011 as I found out
    on the following forum
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4055234
I am struggling to see why this is occurring with purchased software

    Hi Barbara,
Your information has been very helpful and I do appreciate your kind assistance
I have contacted iTunes and they are going to refund my money which is great.
I went to store and purchased Adobe Photoshop and Premier (single package) Elements 10 s. I am using a new iMac with OS 10.7.4
The Photoshop installed OK but she I chose to import photos from my camera and chose to create new folder named as the date shot a new folder is created but it totally shows the wrong date, I am sure we are not in 1970 or 1999 LOL. This happened with both a Canon Powershot and a Canon EOS camera. This problem does not occur with Picasa which works perfectly and does beg the question why I am persisting with Adobe products!
The Premiere (on the same disk as Photoshop) will not install and I get the following error message
    Exit Code: 7

Ensure there is a checkmark in the box “show import dialog when a memory card is detected”
Then quit Lightroom and insert the card again. Does LR launch ready for import?
If not, check that your card is mounted. You should see an icon on the desktop.
Launch Lightroom and click the import button (bottom left)
Expand the tree in the left-hand column of the import dialog e.g. from Mac HD >> Users….down to desktop.
    Highlight your card.
Choose “Copy” at the top and either a named folder on the right or automatic dated folders.
    Then start the import.
