Iphoto won't open after latest update

Just upgraded to latest iphoto using software update & also latest OS update (10.8.2) & tried to open iphoto & it said that there have been 'inconsistencies in your library' detected & needed to repair library database. It tries to do then then crashes & crashes every time I try to re-open. It tries to repair library but never opens, even after repairing.
Any suggestions please?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

iPhoto won't open after iLife update.  How get iPhoto to funtion again?

What version of iPhoto? What happens when you try?
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • ITunes won't open after latest update on Windows8

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • ITunes won't open after latest update

Hi, I've just downloaded the latest version of iTunes today and since then it won't open!
It tries to open - i.e. the iTunes logo sits there in my taskbar, but when I hover my mouse over it, it just comes up as though it's 'blank' and left-clicking on it does nothing.
Oddly enough right-clicking on it gives me the usual options - eg 'close window', 'go to iTunes store' ... but if i then click on any of those options it does nothing.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

According to multiple reports on this site, Apple Support has given the following instructions to others who had a similar problem. I can't confirm that this procedure works or that it's necessary, but it won't leave you any worse off than you are now.
    First, back up all data.
Select the iTunes icon in the Applications folder and open the Info window. Click the padlock icon in the lower right corner to unlock the settings.
In the Sharing & Permissions section, change the Privilege setting for each Name in the list to Read & Write. Close the window. If the settings aren't visible, click the disclosure triangle on the left so that it points down.
You should now be able to drag the iTunes application to the Trash and empty. Your iTunes data won't be affected.
Click the iTunes link at the top of this page, download the installer package and run it.
If iTunes still doesn't launch, or if you can't complete the procedure, reinstall the OS.

  • IPhoto won't open after Software Update

All, after re-installing my System from the CD, re-updating with Software update to 10.4.11, I can not open iPhoto. No error message, but the dock just bounces and if I try Open from the finder nothing happens.
I tried fixing permissions and rebuilding the disk with Disk Utility.
I tried re-installing iPhoto using Pacifist.
    Nada nada nada.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I'd try the Custom Installs from the iLife disk, or whatever disk you have it on... it may need more than what you replaced with Pacifist.

  • My applications won't open after latest update on my MacBook...help?

I just updated itunes (10.5), iDVD, and Safari, as well as Security update 2011-006 and a HP Printer update. Upon restarting my computer, various programs do not open (iTunes, iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto, Chrome, etc.) It tries to open, but then a "enter program name here has unexpectedly quit" box pops up.
I'm not having any success with the little things i've tried to do. Safari seems to be the only application that is still working, though not at it's best performance.
    Any thoughts out there?

I'm having the exact same problem. It is amazing how many problems the Macs actually have. I'm glad to see Apple has discontinued their false advertising pretending that Macs have fewer problems than PCs. Maybe the FTC made them stop.
Anyone found a solution to this? I have work to do and my computer is now paralyzed. Have already used Leopard disk to repair drive and permissions. App icons blink for a bit like they are turning on but then disappear. Happened immediately after I downloaded the updates that Appled told me to download.

  • ITunes won't open after OS update to Yosmite

ITunes won't open after OS update, ITunes has been updated, it won't open or bounce. It will not allow me to move it to trash or reinstall it. I have already updated to OS X Yosmite two times as directed by apple, I have rebooted in safe made as well as Command/Option/P/R before start up. I have opened console/system log to see if there is anything going on but when I click on Itunes nothing happens, not even so much as half a line of script. I'm stumped. If I wanted someone to tell me to turn it off and on again I'd just watch IT Crowd. please help

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities
If you head into your applications folder and locate iTunes. Right click iTunes and show package contents. In there there will be a contents folder --> MacOS --> double click on the iTunes terminal icon. This should force iTunes to open via a terminal window and at the very least it will tell you what it is getting stuck on.

  • IPhoto won't open after reinstalling

iPhoto won't open after installing "bundled software only" from the Leopard cd. The thing is that I already had everything installed , I installed the bundled software thinking that it would install the bootcamp in my mac (I know , I'm stupid...It is because I never had a mac..
    What shoud I do?
PS: other program are not working either , iWork and Garage Band.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Start with the troubleshooting basics:
    1. Repair Permissions using Disk Utility
    2. Delete the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. You'll need to reset your User options afterwards.
    3. Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts) and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • IPhoto won't open since last update V9.5.1

My iPhoto won't open since the latest update (V9.5.1) was installed.  I do not get any error message, the icon bounces a couple times and then nothing happens.  I've tried the following solutions found in other forums:
-Using "iPhoto Library Manager" to rebuild library and repair iPhoto, did not work because "iPhoto failed to open"
-Removing the file iPhotoLock.data from Finder>Pictures>Right Click iPhoto Library>Show Package Contents, this also did nothing.
I can't find any other solution and I'm worried that I may lose my pictures (over 20GB of pics).
Is someone else having similar issues?

You don't always have a good current backup?  Without one you are 100% guarenteed to lose everything including your photos sooner or later - things do fail - Time Machine is included on yur Mac - use it - you eed a large external hard drive that is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - once set up it is automatic and will save you when things go South
For now all you need is a copy of the iPhoto library
I stated in my original message that I have the most current version of iPhoto, iPhoto '11 V9.5.1.  Is there a way to reverse the update because I had no problems with it until the update was done automatically.
Yes - but since things are not wroking ti is important to verify facts - not work on assumptions
No - you can not "undo the update" easily but you can fix things
