Iphoto won't open just has question mark over icon
My iphoto won't open on my iMac spotlight doesn't akknowledge it. Just a question mark covers the icon on my dock. Any help to get it back would be great
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

I have an os x 10.6.8 and my iphoto will not open, just has the searching icon going round & round! Can anyone help?
backup your iPhoto library and launch iPhoto while holding the option and command keys down until the first aid window appears - repair your database and if necessary rebuild the database

My iphoto won't open and has a ? on iphoto picture?
my iphoto won't open and has a ? on the photo picture in the dock
Look in your applications folder - is the iPhoto application there (it probably is not) - if it is double click on it to launch it
If it is
reinstall from the original source
Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer
or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always. -
Installation issue - Question Mark over icon?
Hi.
I just purchased FCE4 to upgrade from my old version.
I did the install, and it said it was successful.
I rebooted.
My FCE icon has a big question mark over it, and clicking on it doesn't open the software.
Any ideas?
Thanks. It sounds like you're looking at your Dock icon which can't find the old version. Open your Applications folder and see if FCE will open using that icon.

Sent Mail shows as "Delivered" but has question mark in icon
I have a user with a few sent emails to multiple parties that are listed as "Transferred" in the mail properties but have the question mark icon next to it. The definition of the question mark icon reads: "The item couldnt be delivered to the destination post office or it failed to transfer to the Internet."
Am I right to assume that these emails are successfully being sent out but are receiving the question mark icon due to an error on a recipient's end?
Thanks!brianmier,

Question Mark over icon??
I guess this means that i've lost Safari, but how do i get it back? i tried to download again, but nothing happens. i lost firefox and IE at the same time i lost Safari...but i'm connected to the internet as i'm still getting mail, and can go to itunes. What's happening?
It doesn't necessarily mean you've lost Safari or Firefox. But IE? IE hasn't been available for Mac for several years, so was this a holdover from pre-Tiger days?
You should try looking in your ~/Applications folder to see if the programs are there;. Unless you deleted them, they should be, and in that case you'd just have to drag the icon back to the Dock and drag any remaining question marks off the Dock.
Failing that, do you have a backup of your system? If so, you can restore all your programs and files since your last backup.

It will not open my photos as well. I see this question asked in 2010 but I don't have the files it says that are there.
Where are you storing your iPhoto library? In your Pictures folder or on an external drive? Or are you trying to open an iPhoto library on a CD? If you save your iPhoto library to a CD, or DVD you need to copy it to a writable disk, before you can open it in iPhoto.
ANd what is your iPhoto version and your MacOS X version? What happened, directly, before the problem occured? -
After I loaded ilife 11 and tried to open iphoto, I could not and had a message saying it may be damaged or incomplete. It was working fine yesterday and I've never seen this message. What should I do?
First run Software Update so you have the latest version.
If you still have trouble then hold down CMD and OPT as you click on iPhoto. It will give you options to rebuild your library.

IPhoto has a question mark over it. Wont open! Help?
iPhoto has a question mark over it. Wont open! It is completely inaccessible. How can i restore this to my computer and get my pics back?
iPhoto has a question mark over it.
You mean in the Dock? Then the Dock icon is no longer linked to the application.
Did you upgrade MacOS X, so iPhoto is no longer compatible?
If you moved or deleted iPhoto, reinstall it. It will depend on your iPhoto version and MacOS X version, how to reinstall.
If your profile signature ""OS X (10.6.8)" is still valid, reinstall iPhoto from your system install disks, if iPhoto came preinstalled on your Mac, or from your iLife install disks.
If you already upgraded to Yosemite, you can reinstall iPhoto from the App Store. -
My iphoto has a transparent question mark over it and will not open. How do I fix this?
My iphoto on my imac will not open. It has a transparent question mark over it...how do I fix it?
Is the question mark on the Dock at the bottom of your screen? Then it means that the Dock can't find the application.

iPhoto won't open. Little circle/wheel icon just keeps spinning. Reinstalled from iLife disk, and still no luck. Any suggestions?
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
