IPhoto won't recognize iPhone as a device

I have talked to apple about this and sent information to help, but it didn't work. When I plug-in the phone to the computer and open iPhoto, iPhoto does not do what the Apple tech said it would do. It does not acknowledge the iPhone camera as a device. I tried a different USB port and I tried the directions regarding image capture, but it didn't help. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it! And hopefully avoid having to go the mall to the store!!

I am having the same problem. Mine was working fine until I had to restore my phone from a backup. Since then iphoto has not recognized my phone even though it has 50 photos sitting on it. Suggestions?

  • IPhoto won't recognize iPhones when connected

I have iPhoto 8.1.2 on my iMac, and all of a sudden it has stopped recognizing our iPhones when we plug them in. (Have tried three different cables on each of two iPhones - iTunes recognizes them, but iPhoto doesn't.)
Is it failing all of a sudden because it needs an update? I clicked on the button to learn more about iLife 11 from "check for updates" in the menu, but the page it links to says "Hmm, the page you're looking for can't be found." I can't seem to find any other way to update the iPhoto software, and the only way I can figure out to upload my current photos and videos is by e-mailing them to myself from the phone and importing them to iPhoto. There has to be a simpler solution, right?
Additionally, every time I quit iPhoto and restart it with no phone connected, it shows my iPhone under the devices, as if it is connected, with photos and videos waiting to be uploaded (that didn't upload during its last connection because it told me there were errors in the files??), and it is unable to get past that. Once I click to unmount, I can't get either phone to show back up in the device list. (When I connect my digital camera, it still shows up properly in the device list.)
Finally, I recently had my phone's dock connector replaced, so I thought that might have had something to do with it, but it is responding the same way to my phone and my husband's phone, which still has its original connector.
    Thank you!
    Liz

  • Iphoto won't recognize iphone?

so i plug in my iphone 4s to iphoto so i can upload pictures, but instead of recognizing it as "my iphone" (that is the name of it) it comes up at "apple iphone" none of the photos show up there are just a bunch of squares with dotted lines around them which usually are unloaded pictures. the pictures never load. i tried using the app image capture that comes on the mac but that is doing the same thing. Please help!!!!

Do the photos display correctly on your iPhone, when you browse them in the Photos.app or iPhoto.app on your iPhone?
If not, you may need to trouble shoot your iPhone and restart it or restore it.  See:  http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/#section_5
But before restoring, you will need to get the photos from your iPhone. If iPhoto on your Mac does not see them, try to share them to iTunes on your iPhone  http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/1.0/#blnkbe43137b

  • IPhoto won't recognize my iPhone 3Gs.  just says there's an apple iPhone, instead of the device name, and says there are no files to download, but there are 62 items on my phone... what's going on?

iPhoto won't recognize my iPhone 3Gs.  just says there's an "apple iPhone" instead of the device name, and says there are no files to download, but there are 62 items on my phone... what's going on?  as far as I can tell I have everything up to date and it's always worked in the past.

Have you already confirmed your Mac as a trusted device?  Try this:
    Lauch iTunes.
    Connect the Phone/iPad
When it asks you to trust it, say yes.
    Now try again to import.

  • TS3540 iTunes and iPhoto won't recognize my iPhone when plugged into my mac.

iTunes and iPhoto won't recognize my iPhone 4S, or my wife's iPhone 4 when pluged into my MAC.  I am running OSX v10.5.8, and both iPhones have the latest version of iOS.  I tried a few of the other trouble shooting tips from the community, but nothing seems to work.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks.

I tried that and iTunes and iPhoto still won't recognize the device.  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • IPhoto won't recognize my iPhone

hi hello, all of suddenly my iPhone 3GS will not appear in my iphones when i sync to my iMac. Now I can't retrieve any photo's I've taken. There was no preference changes, and I already tried Applications>Image Capture>Preferences>Camera:when a camera is connected, open:iPhoto. ..nothing
Still iPhoto won't recognize my iPhone. What the heck happened?? and how to fix?
    Thanks for your time, James

    Try trash the following file
    com.apple.ImageCaptureNotifications.DeviceDiscoveryDatabase.501
    from HD/Library/ Caches
    and restart your mac.
If that fails: try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Iphoto won't recognize my iphone when importing images.

I have had problems with importing images from my iphone 4s to my macbook for a while. For some reason, iphoto won't recognize any of the images on my iphone, meaning that I can't import any of them. I have tried unlocking the phone with iphoto open, with it closed and then opening it and without unlocking the phone at all. I have also updated all programs involved. Has anyone had this problem before, and if so how could I fix it? Thanks in advance! (Text in the picture is obviously Swedish, but you catch my drift.)

See if this fix will apply for your problem.

This solved my questionRe: ios update problem - 7.1 11D167 iphoto not picking up new photos
Mar 20, 2014 7:15 AM (in response to JdinPa)
I figured out the fix for the Mac users having this problem. I connected my iPhone to my iMac and started iTunes. A dialogue came up in iTunes, I OK'd that and then OK'd the usual "Do you trust this Mac" that comes up on my iPhone.
Suddenly Image Capture launched itself and there were all my photos, ready to be downloaded.

  • Iphoto won't recognize my memory card anymore (since a month ish?) but the mac itself does and puts the icon on the desktop.  How do I get it to recognize it again?

Iphoto won't recognize my memory card anymore (since a month ish?) but the mac itself does and puts the icon on the desktop.  How do I get it to recognize it again?

Thank you so much for responding.  I will look for the other disks.
One more question - I initially decided to do this because my Mac kept opening with the date changed to 2008, and I keep having to re - enter my Web key.  In addition, it was running much slower.  Since I 'cleaned' everything out, I thought all would work perfect.  This morning, the date changed to 2008; again AND it again asks for my Web key.  Does this mean my Mac has reached it's almost end or could I have a 'bug' on it?
Again, thanks so much for your suggestions.

  • IPhoto won't recognize SD card placed directly into my iMac's SD slot.

iPhoto won't recognize SD card placed directly into my iMac's SD slot. Image Capture shows the name of the SD card but does not show any photos. If I use the Finder I can see all of the photos on the sd card so I know they are there. I've previously imported lots of photos from teh SD slot directly into iPhoto. Tried a second SD card with the same issue.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help
    Using iPhoto 8.1.2
    Mac OS 10.6.8

Make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
any tips on how to recover those lost photos?
If you don't recover the photos with the above you'll need to run a recovery app like MediaRECOVER to recover the photos from the memory card.

  • Replaced hard drive and now iPhoto won't recognize camera

I have been using iPhoto 4.0 with my Nikon Coolpix 775 for years with great success. My hard drive needed replacing and I have lost so, so much. Now iPhoto won't recognize my camera, and I can't import. Also, it won't import the hundreds of photos I had backed up on my external drive. "Don't contain valid information" or whatever that message is. I just got a download of Nikon View 6.2.1 on the manuf. website, but that didn't seem to help. What setting am I supposed to change?
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.3.8)   iPhoto 4.0.3

Sounds like you're describing two problems...
    1. iPhoto won't recognize my camera, and I can't import -- Open iPhoto Help and search on the word "camera". Seems like about the fourth item returned to tell you how to have iPhoto open when you connect your camera. If you have not imported any pictures to this library yet, then solve problem 2 before tackling this issue (so you don't have to contend with combining two photo libraries).
    2. it won't import the hundreds of photos I had backed up on my external drive -- most likely cause is that the external drive is not formatted as a "Mac OS Extended" drive. If you backed up by copying the iPhoto Library folder in its entirety, you might try just dragging it back into your Pictures folder (you may need to rename the existing iPhoto Library first if there's one already there with pictures you treasure). After the move, try starting iPhoto and see if it opens to the photos you had backed up.
If that doesn't work, come back and we'll go to plan "B".

  • IPhoto won't recognize my Iphone 4.

It used to work, but today when I connected the phone a Dropbox message appeared, and a "never again for this device" box was checked. I just clicked "continue", and now I can't find the Iphone in the source list.
How can I restore the settings ?

I tried that and iTunes and iPhoto still won't recognize the device.  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Itunes won't recognize Iphone but device still charges

Today, I had my Iphone 5c replaced after having issues with the software on my previous iphone 5c. I'm trying to put the data that was on my previous phone back onto my new replacement but Itunes won't recognize my device. I have tried getting the data back on my phone using Icloud but the backup data that is for my Iphone can't be selected as the backup data requires software that is ios 7.1 or later (or something like that). I have selected the option of "set up as new iphone" and just downloaded the software update but I don't know how to get back to the screen that shows the icloud backups.
I have also tried all the recommended things for when the device cannot be detected with itunes (ex. reinstalling itunes, restarting apple mobile device support< ect.)
If you can help with how I can get my itunes to recognize my iphone or how i can set up with icloud after selecting "set up as new iphone" that would be great

Set the phone up as a new phone. Then update the iOS to 7.1. After the update is complete restore your phone from your backup.

  • I have the new iphone 4S (this is my first iphone) I am having trouble connecting to my bluetooth device - the iphone is searching for the device but won't recognize it (my bluetooth device is a jawbone)

My iphone 4s does not recognize my bluetooth device - I don't know why
My bluetooth device is a jawbone and I have turned it on and sitting next to my iphone which is searching for bluetooth devices but will not recognize it
    Not sure why

    Thanks for the advice
I just tried turning the jawbone off and then turning it on and shaking it 4 times but the iphone 4s still won't recognize my jawbone
Do I need to unpair the jawbone from my blackberry first?  And if so, how do I do that?
so after double shaking, is the ring flashing red +white? If it is not, then it is not in pairing mode. (I'm assuming you have the ERA) And you see nothing on the iphone? Nothing is found? Or is the device found, but not paired.
try placing the jawbone in pairing mode first, and then turn off/on the iphone blue tooth.
I don't think you need to unpair with the BB. But you can try. go to BB settings and there should be a way to  forget the device.
