IPhoto won't run

First time user.  During program start up program attempts to update the photo libraries for the first time.  The program crashes back to the iPad home screen each time at the 3/4point with no error message. I tied uninstalling and reinstalling iPhoto with the same result.  I have 90 albums and over 14,000 images.  How do I fix this or how do I get my money back?

Tim
The file u mentioned wasn't there in the folder
Home (as in home / library / preferences folder ) means HD/ Users/ Your Name... so it's the library in your account.
The fact that iPhoto launches okay in the other account means that iPhoto is okay, and suggests that something in your Library is the source of the problem.
If deleting the plist file doesn't help, then try rebuilding the database. Hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys and launch iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • IPhoto won't run. iPhoto can not run due to an incompatible version of ProKit on this system.

Eh, See title. When I attempt to run iPhoto it pops up "iPhoto can not run due to an incompatible version of ProKit on this system." So. What's ProKit and...
I really need iPhoto today, quite urgent. iPhoto worked perfectly fine before the upgrade but now it seems to.. not be compatible. Yes it is the most updated version. I'm about to order a book and I really need to order today. And in other question, (Don't want to make an other one for no reason in the forums) how long does it normaly take for the books to print and arrive in Singapore? Please answer as quick as possible.
    Thanks.

Did you install any third party software earlier? Pro Kit is a frame work in your system Library that is used by several multimedia applications. If you have an incompatible version, reinstall your system, that should fix it: Use the Client Combo to reinstall:
Download and reapply the OS X Lion Update 10.7.4 (Client Combo) updater.
    Good Luck!
And sorry, I do not know anything about the book delivery in Singapore. But you live in a fine city!

  • IMovie and iPhoto won't run after Migration Assistant

After I used Migration Assistant to transfer my PowerPC files and apps. to my new Intel Mac, iMovie and iPhoto won't open. Any ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks!

sorry, if you have a new mac it should come with the new version of iLife which is what you want to install. My bad. So, insert the istall DVD that came with your new Mac. On that DVD there should be a directory called Optional Installs which should contain a .mpkg file for installing iLife (I don't have an install disk handy so I don't remember the name of the file). double click on that file and it will guide you through the installation process.

    Hi Beatriz,
Did you use iPhoto before the upgrade and do you have an iPhoto Library folder that your images are in?

  • Iphoto won't run slideshows?

    iphoto version 9.5.1. OS X 10.9.1

Does here. For more helo you'll need to give us some information to work with:
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

What matters is the version of iPhoto you have on the different machines. Can you tell us what they are, and what exact error message you get.

How did you "move everything" over?
Migration assistance does not handle the iPhoto library well sometimes - the best way is to drag the bad iphoto library from the pictures folder on the new system to the desktop, connect the two systems together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old system to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto on the new system - it will open and convert the iPhoto library as necessary and you will be fine - once you test the iPhoto library you can delete the one on the desktop

  • Iphoto won't display photos or run a slideshow. Thumbnails all OK etc. Tried rebuilding library and reset Mac Air but no result.  Ideas please!!!!

Iphoto won't display photos or run a slideshow - just a black screen. Can't see photos to edit etc. Thumbnails all OK and all else seems visible in the usual way etc. Tried rebuilding library and reset Mac Air but no result.  Ideas please!!!!

and was told to go home and rebuild the photo library (there are 2257 photos). Did this but problem is still there.
When you rebuild the library did you rebuild the database?  Also did you repair the library's permissions? Is this the First Aid window that you got?
Those are the two options to use.
Here's another fix you can try:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.>Click on the Add Library button,
2 -  select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
3 - make sure that in the rebuild window the checkbox  "Scavange orphaned photos" is checked.
4 - now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
5 - in the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed. Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2:  Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
You'll have to recreate your slideshow after using this method.

  • Iphoto 9.6 won't run with Yosemite 10.10.1

I'm running a mid 2011 Macbook Pro with Yosemite 10.10.1 and iPhoto 9.6.  After upgrading OS to 10.10.1 yesterday, iPhoto won't completely load.  The software opens but the "death spiral" icon just keeps spinning, and my photo library won't load.  Any suggestions to fix it?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPad iPhoto app won't run

After initial installation of the new iPad iPhoto app, you run iPhoto.  It attempts to "Update photo library".  Approximately 3/4 through, the software crashes going first to a black screen, then to the iPad's Home screen.  IOS 5.1 installed. I have 90 albums and over 14,000 photos in the iPad "Photo" application.  Over 1.2GB of storage remaining and 189MB of memory during the iPhoto operation.

    Greetings,
With that number of images you might be getting a bit low on space but I'm not convinced thats the source of the issue.
Consider trying the following to issolate the issue and please report back if one of these helps:
    Power cycle your iPad
Double-tap your home button and remove all persistent apps (If you are a quick access user I know this is a pain but try it anyways please.  You can always go back and re-open them and call me names I won't mind )
Delete and reinstall iPhoto -- Be aware this will make any journals you've made uneditable.
    Failing the above:
Backup and restore your iPad: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
You have another app that is interfering with iPhoto installed on your iPad OR one or more images / albums is corrupt and is causing iPhoto to fail.  I don't have a magic way of fixing this beyond importing all the images to your computer and then putting them back on systematically testing iPhoto each time to see where the bad image is (although importing / deleting / re-syncing may vary well resolve the issue).
    Hope that helps.

  • IPhoto error- won't run at all! Please help

I just got my mac a few weeks ago. I love the iLife applications, and they all worked well. But I upgraded to Leopard a few days ago and since then my iPhoto will not run. It opens and asks if I want to import recovered photos. It doesn't matter if I click "yes" or "no", the application quits and I get this message:
    "The application iPhoto quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
Clicking Relaunch simply re-opens it with the same problem. In the report is this information, in part:
    "Process: iPhoto [374]

And also the number of recovered photos that it asks me to import increases every time I try to run the program. Please help! I can't be without this awesome application.

That did not work By the way here is the error report in it's entirety as someone asked me to post it:

my iPhoto won't open keeps on giving me an error message and my microsoft office two

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Basic stuff:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
With this kind of information somebody can develop a starting point for troubleshooting the issue.
Posts that consist of "iPhoto doesn't work. Help" or "iPhoto won't print" or "Suddenly I have no photos!!!!!!!!!!" mean that any helper is simply guessing. More information means you get better assistance. (And no, more exclamation marks do not get help faster or make your issue seem urgent. They just make it seem like you have a stuck key )

  • My iPhoto won't open. It says "Your photo library is either in use by another application or no longer readable." Please tell me I haven't lost all my pics?! I do not have them backed up. I have tried restarting my mac. Please Help!

My iPhoto won't open. It says "Your photo library is either in use by another application or no longer readable." Please tell me I haven't lost all my pics?! I do not have them backed up. I have tried restarting my mac. Please Help!

What haven't you backed them up? You should always have a back up of any important material on your Mac. Make one now:
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
What version of iPhoto do you have?

  • How can I back up the iPhoto library when iPhoto won't open and I can't simply copy the iPhoto library packet because "some of the data in the packet cannot be read from or written to"?

How can I back up the iPhoto library when iPhoto won't open and I can't simply copy the iPhoto library packet because "some of the data canny be read from or written to"?

Regarding not being able to open iPhoto.  As a test  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Were you able to create a new library?
If so then your current library is damaged and needs to be repaired.
Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
