IPhoto won't show Photoshop Elements 6 editing.

When I drag a photo from iPhoto into Photoshop Elements 6 and edit then save it, the edits do not show in IPhoto. What am I doing wrong. Right now I'm doing a work-around of saving to desktop, importing and merging events but this is tedious. I thought Photoshop was supposed to be compatible with iPhoto. I am running iPhoto 8 with Photoshop Elements 6 on a PowerBook G4 and Leopard OS.

Although you've solved your problem there may be some info in this tip that will help:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

this is an iMac that I just got so its all new to me...
    thank you

If you set PSE as external editor, be sure you pick the right file, which is not by any means the logical choice. You want this one:
You can also export the photos from iphoto, edit them and save them under new names and reimport the edited photos as new files. This is more trouble, but lets you save as many different versions of your image as you like (iphoto only remembers the last edited version + original).

  • I have photoshop 6 and tried to update to element 11, it says i am updated but only shows photoshop 6 editing tools

I have photoshop 6 downloaded on my computer and I tried to update but it will not show Photoshop elements 11 editing tools.  When I check the update it says it is all updated to 11, but does not show 11 editing tools.

Click on Expert and see if that makes a difference.
By the way, you should still have your older version of photoshop elements on your computer.
pse 11 is a separate program/application and doesn't delete older versions on your computer.

  • Why won't my photoshop Elements 10 load?

Why won't my photoshop elements 10 load?

    Hi Brian,
    Continuing this saga:
What does it mean to uninstall & reinstall PSE 10?
I did that, renaming SLStores not a fix, Disappointed (not shocked) at result:
Editor still hangs on loading, just as before. But real mystery is that it lauches directly into Organizer. No welcome screen. This was setting I had changed in attempted fix, trying to maybe get to Editor via Organizer. Obviously not what program is supposed to do out-of-box, nor what it does on my xp laptop.
Some file or files not deleted in uninstall were used at launch. It is not the setting or pref going straight to Org that is the problem. That was created as attempted solution.
But this shows the persistence of mystery file(s) that ARE probably the cause. What & where are they?
-- Is there a way to find the files used when launch attempted? Event viewer doesn't afaik.I know how to find "modified", but not same oc.
-- Application Data & Local Application Data have Adobe folders, some specific to Elements. I should have deleted these in uninstall, have since deleted obvious ones. I may delete everyting Adobe.
-- I would try install on my D drive but often programs wont work from there, and bad file on C might still get in the way. Any thoughts?
    Your persistence is welcome!

  • All my desktop files will now only open in the photoshop elements edit page. How can this be corrected?

As stated in my question I tried to open a manual I have on my desktop and it opened it Photoshop Elements edit page in a thumb nail format.  I checked and all my desktop items will only open in the photoshop elements edit page.  what do I need to do to correct this?

Now that we have your post in the correct forum, I have a few questions, please:
What is the file format of this "manual?"
What OS version are you running?
If this is Windows (a PC), then what is that file format associated with in File Types? It is likely that the particular format has been associated with PsE. If that is not what you want, the association can be changed from the Control Panel, to link it to the desired program.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How to import photos from iPhoto Library to Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor?

I can't use Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 Editor to edit photos from iPhoto Library. If I choose File, Open, and then select 'iPhoto Library', error message is "could not complete your request because of a program error."

You can't do it that way. Any attempt to poke around in the iphoto library from outside iphoto is very likely to damage the library and cause you to lose your photos, so PSE won't let you. You have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photos from iphoto, and save them without changing the name or format (you may need to adjust the editor prefs>Saving Files>On First Save to let you do this). Then iphoto will remember your original and the last edited version.
Be sure to choose this file in Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10>Support files as your external editor, not the one at the top level of the PSE 10 folder in Applications:
    2. Export the photos from iphoto, use File>Open in the PSE editor to open the images and then save them with whatever changes to name or format you like, and reimport the saved images to iphoto as new files. This way you can save as many versions as you like.

  • Using iPhoto, Aperture 3 and Photoshop Elements 9 together...

    Hi everyone,
I recently upgraded from iPhoto to Aperture. It does almost everything I need but there are some much more advanced editing tools in Photoshop Elements that I need occasionally and also I like to be able to quickly create attractive template based e-mails using iPhoto, so I need all three apps.
Currently I have my photo library in Aperture 3 but it's really clunky to create attractive photo emails using iPhoto because I have to click 'Show Aperture Library', which is very difficult to navigate and is pretty much unusable. My next attempt is going to be to see whether I keep all my pictures in an iPhoto library and then browse and edit them in Aperture and Photoshop Elements.
Has anyone got any tips on this topic?
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Ernie,
Thanks for your post. I will try to explain in a little more detail what the problem I'm having is. If I want to create an iPhoto picture template e-mail, say a postcard, then I select File/Show Aperture Library. A browser window pops up. If I browse to 'Projects' then the previews of each project are huge - about 6 fit on a screen with the window maximised. I can't find a way of zooming out in order that I can browse the hundreds of projects in my Aperture library. Is there a way of doing this? Also, I can't seem to control the sort order. The options in View/Sort Order seem to sort the iPhoto album, not the Aperture library browser.
If I select Photos from the navigation tree then I get previews of all my 13'000 pictures and about 100 fit on the screen. Again, I don't seem to be able to zoom in/out nor control the sort order.
What surprised me this morning is that I finally deleted my old iPhoto library and then opened iPhoto to see how it would react. I selected whatever the default was (forgot already!) and now I see my iPhoto library as it was before I deleted it. However, I can't find the library in my Pictures folder. Could it be that iPhoto is reading it from the trash can??
Finally - is there a way of adding pictures to my posts in this forum? Perhaps I could illustrate the views i'm getting in iPhoto's Aperture library browser.
    Yours,
    Jim

  • IPhoto doesn't show pics I edited

I have added hundreds of photos to iPhoto. I recently used Adobe Bridge to open and edit a bunch of them. When I go into iPhoto to see them, I only see the original versions. How can I update iPhoto to show the most updated versions of my photos?
    So annoying.

You opened your photos from Bridge and saved directly into the iPhoto library folder. These actions mean that iPhoto's database is totally unaware of the edited photos, because they haven't been imported. *It is recommended that you do not use Bridge or any other file browser to probe into the iPhoto Library folder, as changes you make from outside iPhoto will damage your library.*
To use another application for editing, go to iPhoto's preferences and set it as your external editor. Don't open them from Bridge; use iPhoto to select and open the photos (up to 4 at a time). With the external editor set you can either double-click to open or right-click and choose "Edit in External Editor" from the contextual menu. Now iPhoto is aware that the photo is opened for editing, and you can use the other application to edit your photos. When complete, Save (NOT Save As) with the same file name and extension, and the edited version will save in your iPhoto library and be linked to the original version. To Save As with any changes (including saving a layered .psd file) you must save to any location NOT inside your iPhoto Library folder, then Import it to your library. In that case the edit will be a new Original, with no connection to the unedited photo.
I have Bridge with my Photoshop Elements 4, and once I got used to this workflow I find it to be productive. I don't use Bridge with any items inside my iPhoto library. I do keep some scrapbooking images outside of my library, and I use Bridge to browse and open them.
    Regards.

  • IPhoto Won't show nef files

When I download my raw (nef) files, iPhoto converts them to jpeg.  When I transfer the file to Photoshop Elements 10 it shows up as a jpeg.  I want to edit the raw file.  Help

In iPhoto's Advanced preference pane check this check box.
Be aware that if when you edit the RAW file in the external editor you'll have to save it to the Desktop and import as a new file.  That's the only way iPhoto will recognize it.

  • Iphoto 09 compatibility with Photoshop Elements 10?

I've recently upgraded from Photoshop Elements 8 to PSE 10. I'm using iphoto 09. (after all I've read I'm kind of worried about upgrading to iphoto11) While I've set my external editor in iphoto to PSE 10, the photo I choose to edit doesn't open in PSE 10. I'm getting really frustrated. Does anyone know of any conflicts between the 2? Could it be an issue with Lion? Any ideas/comments/suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Thanks Keith, I see you understand Exactly what's going on. I tried to choose (in iPhoto Preferences) the support" file but am unable to access it from there. Is that where you meant for me to choose it? I can find it through the Finder but don't know how to get it in iPhoto. I also noticed that Elements 10 isin a folder called MacOs- maybe it's in the wrong folder?
So glad someone actually understands the problem! Need more help though! Thx.

  • IPhoto 08 vs Adobe Photoshop elements 6

I have just recently started to really enjoy digital photography and digital scrapbooking. I bought my first MAC about 2 months ago (20" iMac) and love it.
I also purchased my first SLR camera and have really dived into photography being a hobby and something I plan on doing for quite some time.
With that in mind, I have a lot of ideas about creating all sorts of things with photos.
I recently d/l a trial version of Elements 6 on a old PC and found it, interesting. I did like some things about it.
So my main question is, what is the main differences between the two? Is one a better photo editor than the other? Does one have more options from the startup (basic install)? Does one have more things to add on down the road.
Other things I was curious about was photo organization. Is one better than the other? What is the difference?
Lastly, perhaps it is possible to use them in conjunction?
    Appreciate the feedback.
    Cheers,
    JW

    Thank you.

Do you have iPhoto's iCloud preferences set as shown in this screenshot?
If you do and it's not displaying the My Photo Stream or Shared Photo Streams try the following:
Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's iCloud preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.
