IPhoto won't start after upgrade 1.1 for my new iMac. Now what do I do?

Had to upgrade according to screen.  iPhoto won't start after upgrade 1.1 for my new iMac. Now what do I do?
I have restarted the computer. Brand new iMac intel. v 10.9.4

You need to upgrade iPhoto for Mavericks. Download the upgrade using App Store.

  • IPhoto won't start after upgrade

I just upgraded iPhoto, and when I try to start I get the "application unexpectedly quit" message before it ever opens. Any ideas?

Start with this basic fix: trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)

  • FireFox won't start after upgrading

This morning I upgraded to FireFox 5.0, when it was done installing the upgrade the last window had the option to start FireFox on completion, I left this option checked but after clicking the "Finish" button nothing happened so I clicked the new FF icon on my desktop. Still nothing. I opened Task Manager and nothing was listed on the "Applications" tab but when I clicked on the "Processes" tab there were several instances of FF running so I selected each one and clicked the "End Process" button which worked to exit all but one of them. No matter what I tried it would not terminate that one instance of FF so I shut down the computer. After firing up the computer I tried re-running the FF install app but it kept telling me that I had to exit FF before it could run, I looked in Windows Task Manager again and there was FF listed under "Processes". I restarted the computer to get rid of the running FF and then downloaded the FF file again, but am getting the same results. It just won't start (and it won't even give an error message)! I surfed the Web and found info stating that you could SHIFT click the FF icon to open it in Safe Mode, but that didn't happen either. Any ideas????

it does not work even in windows safe mode with networking. same issue. if i wait for some time firefox comes but in not responding mode. then a pop shows up with - script: chrome//browser/content/tabbrowser.xml 2123 .

    startx at the command line.
I just tried Xorg -reconfigure again, adding the AutoAddDevices = false option - still doesn't work, giving the error about config/hal. Without the option, it just goes back to the terminal with no errors.
Pacman log says the only thing upgraded today (after pacman) was the kernel, nvidia, and kernel-firmware. cdfs conflicted with the new kernel, so I removed it. Then I rebooted, and X stopped working. Downgrading those back again doesn't fix it. I don't get it.
    >>EDIT:
Okay - what does cdfs have to do with Xorg???? This makes no sense. I downgraded the kernel pkgs and nvidia again, and this time installed cdfs, which I forgot to do last time. Now X starts. I don't really get it.
Maybe hal in xfce or some plugin needs to use cdfs for something?? I don't really know - but I'm just glad it's working. I guess I'll file a bug report for cdfs so it can be built to the new kernel and hold off upgrading until it's fixed with 2.6.31. sheesh! too weird.

  • ITunes won't start after upgrading to v9 on WinXP

I dutifully upgraded to iTunes 9, and now it won't start. It attempts to start, and I get a few moments of the hourglass icon. And the Task Manager shows the iTunes process is running. But the UI never appears. I tried deleting via the control panel and reinstalling but same problem. Never had a problem before - this is aggravating since I don't have access to my library and there doesn't seem to be a way to downgrade back to v8. I turned off (actually deinstalled) Norton but that didn't help. Tried disabling a bunch of start up processes at boot time and that didn't help either. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar issue. After doing the upgrade, tried to open iTunes & got an error message saying that I needed the latest Quicktime version and telling me to uninstall and reinstall iTunes. Doing so resulted in the same error message.
Per a suggestion in another thread here, I repaired Quicktime (control panel- add/remove programs- Quicktime- repair). This disappeared iTunes but once I reinstalled it the problem went away.

  • ITunes won't start after upgrade--error message

When I launched iTunes after upgrading to 6.0.1, I got the following message after agreeing to the usual legal terms:
"The folder "iTunes" cannot be found or created, and is required. The default location for this folder is inside the "Music" folder."
    Any suggestions?

    Jeff,
Thank you for the reply and your suggestions.
Yes, I did take a look in the Music folder--and no, the file was not there. I then used Spotlight and did find an iTunes Music folder, but when I tried to copy it to the Music folder I got error message -36, saying that parts of the file weren't readable and, therefore, not copyable.
I also used my disk utility to repair permissions and re started the computer---with the same results.
I'm not sure what else to try and may take my computer to my local expert.
    best,
    als

  • Iphoto won't open after upgrading to mavericks

I just bought my macbook air from a pawn store a few days ago. I just got the OS X upgrade to finish after upgrading itunes, iphoto, safari, etc. Now when I tried to open iPhoto it said I need to upgrade. When I go to the App Store and click update all, I get the following message: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
does this mean I can't open the photos I've uploaded or load any new ones? I bought this laptop for school and I'm honestly not a computer guy so this is extremely frustrating and I'm seriously considering just taking this back before my 30 day return window closes because this is nuts.

The iPhoto on that machine belongs to the guy who hocked the machine. If you don't have his ID you'll need to buy iPhoto for yourself.

  • Macbook Pro won't start after upgrade to 10.5.2

I just updated my Macbook Pro 1.Generation to 10.5.2 via software update. After a double boot, the apple logo and the loading wheel appeard as expected. After several minutes of loading, i had to login. After login, the leopard wallpaper appears and then nothing happens. I cannot do anything. It seems that the finder and the dock won't start up.
I have several apps installed, which may cause this issue. For example DockDoctor.
What can i do? Do i have to reinstall leopard and try again to install 10.5.2 via CombiPackage?
    Thanks for help

    Start by:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Then download the standalone updater and reinstall 10.5.2. If that doesn't solve your problem then you will have to do an Archive and Install.
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    2. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    3. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    4. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    5. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • RADIUS won't start after upgrading to 10.6

I upgraded a Mac mini from 10.5 to 10.6 recently, and for some reason RADIUS won't start. The only way I can get it going is to run "radiusd -X" from the CLI which starts it in debug mode.
Has anyone else had this problem? It doesn't seem to log any error when trying to start normally through Server Admin; it just doesn't start.

    I solved the problem.
For some reason I could not even start RADIUS using launchctl.
    $ cd /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    $ launchctl start org.freeradius.radiusd
launchctl start error: No such process
Doing a "launchctl list" didn't even list the radiusd even though the file was there.
    I then ran:
    $ launchctl load -w ./org.freeradius.radiusd.plist
And that did the ticket. I can now start and stop RADIUS from within Server Admin.
Hopefully this helps someone else should they go through such a painful upgrade as we did.

  • Calendar won't start after upgrade to Mountain Lion

    Hi,
After upgrading to ML, my calendar service didn't want to start.

Where do I start troubleshooting this issue?

  • Itunes won't start after upgrading

I just upgraded to itunes for windows 6.0.5 and now it won't start. The windows error report box comes up. Please help!

don't be silly, zenbeer. let's wait until the original poster tells us explicitly what message s/he's getting. there are at least two different error messages that miracon could be getting that fit the information that we've received so far.
why on earth did you reinstall Windows in response to that error message?
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
