Iphoto won't start

hi
i have 2 user accounts on a powermac g4. on one user's side iphoto runs fine. on the other side iphoto is just stuck in the "loading library" phase and never goes further. at one point (while trying to start iphoto) it said something about missing system files? and that i should reinstall iphoto. that message has never come back. and the fact that it runs fine on other user side confuses me.

Hi hypertrout,
That confuses me also, as there is only one iPhoto application on the computer.
Never the less, let's try to troubleshoot your user or your iPhoto Library folder.
It could be a corrupt preference file for your user-navigate to the Preferences folder and delete the iPhoto Preference file.
Preference file
It could also be a data file in the library causing this. To troubleshoot, create a new library:
Follow the instructions in the next screenshots for "creating a new library"
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do (YES), or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to.
If iPhoto opens this new library, then some data file in your old library was causing the library not to load.
Get back to me if any of these worked.

  • IPhoto won't start up

Okay, I opened up iPhoto after installing the latest update (6.0.2) and now iPhoto won't start up. I tried reinstalling from the iLife 06' DVD, and it still won't work.
(By the way, I'm using Front Row enabler, if that helps at all)

    Hi patricia,
" Unable to upgrade this library because the current user does not have access"
-First make sure your Pictures folder has the correct permissions for you, the user. Do this by highlightling the Pictures folder, hit Command i to bring up the info pane.
Make sure you are the owner and have read and write permissions. Click the button at the bottom of the window.
-If your problem is a locked file/files follow the info in the following Apple kb
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303232
If all this fails you might want to try BatCHmode.

  • Iphoto won't start. photo won't start because I need Library Upgrader? where can I get I as don't have the original disc.

iphoto won't start because I need Library Upgrader? where can I get I as don't have the original disc.

Sounds like you have a damaged library7  To check launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a test library. If you can import a few photos.  If that works then your original library is damaged so make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete  the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

What installed iPhoto there in the first place?  Was it the same version of iPhoto that came with the Mac?  Was iLife added at a later time from a Mac Box Set?   You can selectively install iPhoto, and then apply the appropriate iLife update without taking it to the shop, after removing the application, or recover it from your backup.

  • IPhoto won't start (Missed theme font)

This is my first Apple experience at all and I'm enjoying it, but I have encountered a problem.
iphoto won't start, it just says: "The font required to run this application is missing"
I'm in Mavericks 10.9.3, fresh installation with few programs, I never touched any fonts or anything in font book.
I tried to reinstall with no luck ... so I don't know which is the problem.
Here just few lines of error log:
    Application Specific Information:
*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'System font path not found in bundle at path: /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Frameworks/ProKit.framework'

terminating with uncaught exception of type NSException
No problem so far with imovie, just iphoto let me go crazy.
Any idea to solve the issue?

Open FontBook. It's in your Applications folder.
From the FontBook menu bar click File > Restore Standard Fonts
Restart your Mac then try iPhoto.

  • IPhoto won't start... Icon bounces a few times and stops

    Hey Guys,
I'm using iPhoto now for a long time, but a few weeks ago it simply stopped working... My iPhoto Version: 9.5.1 on Mavericks 10.9.1
When I double-click the icon it bounces a few times and then disappears again. I tried already many different solutions like repairing disk permissions or deleting the plist-files, rebuilding the iPhoto library doesn't work because the app won't start...
    Can anybody help me?
Thank you already now for helping me
    Macbook Pro Late 2011
    Mac OS X 10.9.1 Mavericks

I found the solution by myself after long time using google...
    Mac Console said the following:
    "Dyld Error Message:
      Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/NyxAudioAnalysis.framework/Versions/A/NyxAudioAnalysis
      Referenced from: /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/Frameworks/iLifeSlideshow.framework/Versions/ A/iLifeSlideshow

Here I found the solution for all who need it:
    http://www.sanebutdifferent.com/iphoto-11-nyxaudioanalysis-crash-error
Simply downloading a new NyxAudioAnalysis.framework and replacing/copying it to the location shown by Console solved everything!

  • Iphoto won't start - disk utility can't fix file volume

I've posted my iphoto problems on the iphoto forum and they suggested I post here on the Tiger forum.
It all started when I completed the automatic software upgrade for iphoto and other applications (can't remember which) and when I started iphoto, all my pictures disapeared in front of my eyes. Tried a number of tricks suggested on the iphoto forum and one worked for a while but now iphoto won't even start up.
One suggestion was to fix disk permissions. This did not work and got a message that there was on error in one of the file volumes. When trying to fix that using disk utility, the application can't exit properly and the problem persists. Another suggestion was to use DU from the start up disk and I did that with no results, same problem as before.
HELP! I can't use iphoto and it appears I have something wrong with my hard drive. All other applications appear to work fine and I have all my photos and music backed up on a backup drive.
Do I need to re-install Tiger? Help Please
    Intrepid 007

If you have run Disk Utility and it cannot repair the drive then you have a couple of choices. First, you could purchase a more robust utility such as Disk Warrior or Tech Tool Pro or Drive Genius. Disk Warrior is an excellent program for repairing the disk directory.
You could do a reinstall, just make sure to backup all of your files first. If it were me I would do a reformat and reinstall rather than an archive and install just to insure that whatever corruption is on your system is gone, but that is me.

You need to reinstall as iPhoto is missing bits of itself.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • IPhoto won't start anymore just for 1/5 accounts

    Hello,
Al over sudden one user is not able to start iPhoto anymore. I just bounces once and stops. No iPhoto task running.
With the other users on the same machine iPhoto is fine.......
-- repair disk permissions didn't help
    -- removing ~/pref/com.apple.iphoto.plist didn't help
-- starting with option key didn't help
-- tried to start from iPhotoLibrary Manager pointing to a shared and will working library didn't work...
Has someone a tip (other than creating a new user and deleting the account causing trouble....)
    Look forward

    Hi Terence,
    txs for your post.
The crash reporter doesn't write anything....
Suddenly I realised that the problem causing account uses the Portuguese language, while the others (without problems) use either Dutch or English. When I changed for the problem causing user language to Dutch iPhoto starts up and runs smoothly.
Well just a work around but still an awkward expierence......
Does this gives you some fresh IDs???

  • IPhoto won't start after upgrade

I just upgraded iPhoto, and when I try to start I get the "application unexpectedly quit" message before it ever opens. Any ideas?

Start with this basic fix: trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)

  • ITunes and iPhoto won't start up

I am having quite a major problem here....
I have downloaded the mac os x lion....
and I just cant seem to open neither my iTunes or iPhoto!
when i try to open iPhoto, it says,"internal error"
when i open my itunes, it either says,"error" or,"error(-50)
i have tried to reinstall my itunes, but all it says is still,"error" when i start it up.
    Urgent help needed,
    mac user [marcus]

It appears, then goes again shortly after.
That's more consistent with malware than most other things ... however the AVG Antispyware typically catches that.
Let's check to see if you've got an atypical set of symptoms of a broken QuickTime. (Following up again on that error message that you get when you click on the QuickTime control panel.)
Let's try swapping out your existing QuickTime.
    let's try this technique first.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching QuickTime again. does it launch properly now?
If the QuickTime is launching properly, is iTunes launching too now?

  • Iphoto won't start ( activly ) when i trying to sync from iphone to imac

iphoto starts only on background when i want to charge and sync my iphone to the imac and if you click f3 it appears but if you click import al iphoto disappears again to the background so i can't upload fotos

Yes, I'm running ESET NOD32. I've disabled NOD temporarily but it still hangs on Calanders when syncing! Any ideas?
Many thanks. There's a couple of alternatives.
Either try the procedure in Samoreen's post:
Re: iTunes 11.1.4.62 freezes while syncing with Outlook
Or, see if you can get hold of the Eset beta addressing the problem. As Samoreen notes in another post:
ESET have a workaround for this issue. They gave me access to a test version of the HIPS module and this fixed the problem. So I could re-enable the ESET_OPTIONS environment variable (although I still consider that it's a questionable idea). I upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5.5 and there was no problem.
So maybe you should get in touch with ESET support and request the new module ? Just send a message to Marcos in the ESET forum.

  • IPhoto won't start up after archive & install

    Hi all.
Recently I had to perform an archive & install after the System>Library>System Resources folder got trashed. I did this as it sometimes gets corrupted and cause the iMac to constantly wake from sleep. Previously the folder always restored itself, but not this last time. See this old thread for more details:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2233465&start=30&tstart=0
My wife actually did the archive & install. We had been running Mac OS X 10.6.3, reverted back to 10.5.6 and then I upgraded back to 10.6 (the iMac came with both OSes) and then downloaded the combi update to 10.6.3 again.
Well now when I try to launch iPhoto I get the following error report:

It looks like something is missing. Any ideas as to how to fix this?
Also we now seem to have doubles of many Apple apps, originals that were saved from before the archive & install and new ones from reinstalling the OS. Perhaps this is related to the problems? The other apps I have tried so far seem OK though.
    Any help much appreciated.

You need to re-install iPhoto as it is missing that iLife Slideshow component.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
