IPhoto won't upgrade

I just installed the snow leopard and ilife upgrade and my iphoto will not open at all and when i tried to use the upgrade disc to try to upgrade, all applications were available except iphoto was dimmed, not bold, and i could not check it to upgrade. What could be going on? I'm upgrading from iphoto '08 to '09.

About the versions..Oh..ok. When I click the iPhoto icon, it bounces and then I get the dialog box "iPhoto quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple." Clicking "Report..." I get the following:Process: iPhoto [2257]

How did you "move everything" over?
Migration assistance does not handle the iPhoto library well sometimes - the best way is to drag the bad iphoto library from the pictures folder on the new system to the desktop, connect the two systems together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old system to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto on the new system - it will open and convert the iPhoto library as necessary and you will be fine - once you test the iPhoto library you can delete the one on the desktop

  • Had Mavericks, upgraded to Yosmite 10.10.1, iPhoto won't upgrade.

Had Mavericks running, upgraded to Yosmite 10.10.1,  I own iLife 11, iPage & Numbers & other apps updated/crossed over but my iphoto 9.6 has attempted to 'upgrade' my iphoto database for 8 hrs. Running OS 10.10.1, & have used the iphoto 1.1 fix. Still no good. macbook pro dual 2010. here's a screenshot. Shows 2 iPhoto library files? also app not responding.

    Force Quit and try again.
    If that fails:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto won't upgrade! Transition from Macbook Pro to iMac

I originally had a Macbook Pro and I loved it with the iPhoto software. Yet, I recently bought a new iMac and tried to load my pictures from my Macbook Pro (via External HD), yet it says that the my iPhoto needs to be upgraded. I click Upgrade and it says my current Photo library cannot be opened using this version of iPhoto.
Not quite sure what to do. I have to use Lightroom to open and edit all of my photos when I love using iPhoto to upload and share pictures.
Any help will be great. Thank you!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
tied to load my pictures from my Macbook Pro (via External HD), yet it says that the my iPhoto needs to be upgraded
How did you load your pictures from the MBP to the iMac? Did you just copy the library package to your Pictures folder on the iMac?
If so make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • GarageBand, iMovie and iPhoto won't upgrade

    Hello,
Since a while ago, I've been receiving every day and every time a notification saying a new upgrade for GarageBand, iMovie and iPhoto is available.
For some reason, whenever I go to the app store and try to upgrade all, I get a message saying: "To upgrade these apps, connect to the account you used to buy them".
I don't have any other accounts meaning that the only one I have should work. There is another user on my computer and he also has a different Apple ID which we tried to use but nothing happens either.
So, is there anything we can do to either upgrade those apps or to stop getting the upgrade message?
    Thanks.

I'm not sure if upgrading to Lion could be the issue, it didn't came preinstalled so when it was released, I bought it and upgraded.
Do you mean Lion or Mt. Lion? Did you make a clean install?  If you upgraded from Snowleopard, you probably bought your Mac before the AppStore was released, and then you should upgrade iLife using Software Update from the -menu and not from the AppStore. Have you moved your iLife apps to from their original location to a subfolder of Applications? Then move them back.
But if you bought your Mac with Lion preinstalled, try to log out of the AppStore and then click the "Updates" tab and sign back in. Does that show the updates?

  • IPhoto won't upgrade with iLife 11

I recently purchased iLife 11, and found I needed to upgrade my operating system to snow leopard. Once that was complete I uploaded iLife 11 and everything seems to have worked successfully except for my iPhoto Library. I receive the prompt upon opening iPhoto that it needs to upgrade with the new iLife program. I select upgrade and it begins reading the files and then freezes about a third of the way into the writing of the new program. I effectively can't used my iPhoto library. I have it all backed up on time machine. Can I somehow uninstall iLife 11? I tried the disk repair under utilities as directed by a Mac store employee without success. Or should I erase my iPhoto library and then re-upload from time machine? Thanks

First, update iPhoto. Have you run Software Update since installing iLife 11? There have been a couple of updates already to address library upgrade issues.
Second, there's a kbase article somewhere that says you might go to upgrade and it'll sit there and look like it's stuck but you should let it go, how long have you let it sit before calling it frozen? I guess if it doesn't budge in an hour or so I might call it, especially if you look in Activity Monitor and it doesn't look like iPhoto's doing anything.
But software updates first, if you haven't already!

What matters is the version of iPhoto you have on the different machines. Can you tell us what they are, and what exact error message you get.

How do you know the library was modified with iPhoto 9 (11)?  If you've never had iPhoto 9 on your Mac it could'nt have.  It sounds like a damaged library. Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

Sounds like you have a damaged library7  To check launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and try to create a test library. • Iphoto won't open with out upgrade

iphoto won't open without upgrade. How do I upgrade

Assuming your running Mavericks this screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • Upgraded to Mavericks, iPhoto won't update

I upgraded to Mavericks but iPhoto won't update. Receive this message: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." I have only had one user name. I can't get into iPhoto and no update will work. Says I have version 9.3.2 of iPhoto even though I updated.

Did that and now there is no update for iPhoto. Go to the iPhoto app and it says accept and I do but then nothing happens. Have I lost all of my photos??

  • IPhoto won't import movies (.mov, .mp4) into the library since last upgrade to 9.5.1 (902.17)

iPhoto won't import movies (.mov, .mp4) into the library since last upgrade to 9.5.1 (902.17). Error message is "File format not recognized". Before that, no problem. Had them first on SD-card over USB, tried then to copy to the HD (Desktop) and import from there, but didn't work. Imported successfully into iMovie and exported as .mp4, but even this is not recognized.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.
