IPhoto won't work, new iMac

Hello,
I recently purchased a new iMac (late 2012), and had all of my photos moved over from my old MacBook. I had a problem where iPhoto wouldn't import photos and instead would crash whenever an import was attempted. After moving all of my folders, files, pictures, music, etc. from my old Mac, iPhoto wouldn't work on my new iMac, either.
I have tried restoring the iPhoto library (Command+Option), I have tried "iPhoto Library Manager" (failed), and I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I have also backed up my photos via a flashdrive and they are safe but they won't import. I have also created a new library and tried importing and that also failed. I looked for 3ivx and I don't have it (searched for it in spotlight and Control+UpArrow 3x's, then application support, not there).
iPhoto says: "iPhoto has detected inconsistencies in your library. Please click Repair to avoid any potential problems". I click repair and then it says: A photo has been found in the iPhoto library that was not imported, would you like to import it?
^^This is where I run into problems, as iPhoto will not import anything without crashing.^^
Any help is greatly apprecitated,
JK

  • Copied Iphoto 9 library to new Imac... question on faces...

    Hi,
I have an old macbook with Iphoto 9 loaded.  Faces never worked right on the Macbook and after a while, I just gave up.
I bought a new Imac yesterday and spent a while trying to figure out how to get my Iphoto library over to the new machine.
First, I used migration assistant and tried to migrate files from my time machine. It"migrated" the user that is defined on my macbook and the associated folders I specified in migration assistant (music, movies, pictures). I thought it would just populate Itunes, Imovie and Iphoto, but it actually just copied user "Mike" (my name is the user on my macbook) and the files, and then I couldn't even get at them (had some message saying they were locked or I didn't have permission or something to that effect)!  I thought it would automatically populate Itunes, Imovie and Iphoto with all my stuff from the time machine... but nope.
So, I deleted the user "Mike" from my Imac since it was unaccessible anyway.
Second, I decided to open Iphoto 11 from the new Imac and use the "import photos" command from there.  I navigated to the image folder on my Time Machine and imported that way.  I got closer this time... but it imported 32,000 images when all I have is ~6000!  Tons of duplicates and triplicates were loaded!  Doh.  Round 2 was a bust.
Third, I decided to delete the Iphoto library on the new Imac (since it now contained 32,000 images) and instead, straight up copy the Iphoto library from Time Machine and paste it into the approrpriate directory (this was midnight, so a little fuzzy, but think it was just in user>pictures... can't remember if there was an "Itunes" folder or not.)  Regardless, the Iphoto library seems to have copied over OK!  When I opened Iphoto this morning, it gave me a messahe about upgrading my Iphoto Library, but once that was done, all 6000 pictures were there, with all the events, etc.  So everything seems just fine.
    So really, 2 questions:
    1) Was this the right way to have done it all along or did I screw something up now that I will pay for later?  And if so, how should I fix it?
    2) I want to wipe out my "Faces" and start from scratch.  The "Faces" that are there now are left over attempts to get the Faces in my Iphoto 9 working (basically, it didn't work at all and the only phots in the folders are ones I manually put in there), and just want Iphoto 11 to do its thing without any legacy '09 attempts.  How do I wipe out what is in the Faces Corkboard and let Iphoto 11 go to work with identifying faces from scratch?
Sorry for the long post, but figure some background would be helpful!

The correct way to move  Library is to copy it to the new machine and just open it. You got it right at the end.
Just erase the Faces. Select a Face and go command-delete

  • I had lion and am now using 10.6.8 and my iphoto won't work

I had lion and am now using 10.6.8 and my iphoto won't work I am told that I need to use another version of iphoto

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you're able to create and run a new library successfully the culprit is your current library.
In that case try the following on your current library:
If you have the space available on your hard drive and don't aready have a backup copy of the library make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Commadn+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I updated my computer to the mavericks and now my iPhoto won't work

I updated my computer to the mavericks and now my iPhoto won't work. And when I go to update iphoto, it says it cant be downloaded onto my computer.

Seems like ios6 isn't any good for any of their devices. I have an iPhone 4 and recently updated to ios6 and have had all the wifi problems and apps getting hung up on load screens. Restore is your best bet and downgrade if you can back to ios 5.1. If restore doesn't help with a fresh install of ios6 then call every Apple support number you can find and be heard like the 1,000s of other people like us with ios6 problems demanding support. There doesn't seem to be any quick fixes for ios6 other than an update from Apple.

  • IPhoto won't import new photos from Photo Stream.

    Hello,
iPhoto won't import new taken pictures from Photo Stream. When I disable and then re-enable Photo Stream, all pictures will be imported to iPhoto. But when I take some more pictures, these won't appear in Photo Stream (until disabling/enabling Photo Stream in iPhoto).
    Anyone with similar experience?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1

  • How to move my iPhoto library to a new iMAC?

how to move my iPhoto library to a new iMAC?

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

Move the incompatible iPhoto version to the Trash, before you try to reinstall from the AppStore, but don't empty the Trash.
    update as described here:
Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities
The main idea is to move the iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the AppStore Purchases tab with ⌘R, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.

Open Activity Monitor by searching it in spotlight.
Go to the app that you downloaded & quit it. If it won't quit then Force Quit.

  • IPhoto won't work on my OLD imac after using migration assistant to my new imac.

So I recently used migration assistant to transfer all of my documents, music, photos, etc. to my new imac which was purchased a month ago.  I used an 800 firewire and the migration was successful and there seems to be not problems on the new computer.  However I went on my old imac to load some new photos off of my iphone.  Much to my dismay iphoto opened up with a window that said, "You can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto.  Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."  I don't recall ever using iPhoto on either of the computers during migration assistant aside from putting the old photos into iPhoto on the new computer.  The old imac is a Mac OS X 10.5.8 and it still has iLife '06.  So how would I go about fixing this?  Should I update to iLife '11 or is there an easier way without using new software?  Thank you!

Then that looks ver like you opened the Library on the old machine with the new iPhoto on the new machine, and it has now been updated to iPhoto 11.
Before deciding to update, make sure your machine can run the same version of iPhoto as the new machine.

  • Quick Time, Animated Web and IPhoto won't work

This MacBook won't run animated Web sites, like YouTube, or school text books -- nothing appears in the space where the animation should occur. There is not a question mark on Quick Time. We've updated Quick Time and made sure the Flash Enabled box is unchecked in the Advanced settings. We updated Flash, too.
IPhoto won't display the different special effects or options to use on photos.
We've had problems with this MacBook since it was new, returning it twice for a black screen, new hard drive once, new battery once, reloaded everything last attempt after it deleted sporatic system files. Problems started within 90 days of purchase and we are very frustrated that Apple won't replace it. We've had a problem every month -- any suggestions on how to get Apply to replace it or to fix the most recent problem of Animations not running on Web sites or IPhoto working properly?
    Thank you.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have purchased and tried to upgrade my Quick Time 7 to QT7 Pro with no luck.
What does this mean? Did you follow the instructions? What is or is not happening as a result? Any messages being displayed?

  • Iphoto not upgrading to new iMAC

I had posted this to a previous, but thought it was probably better to start a new thread.
I was having a problem with my iphoto - I believe corrupted on old iMAC. However, given I was going to upgrade the iMac anyway, thought I would transfer everything across to the new iMAC and that would be the best way forward.
Everything has come across from TimeMachine and looks to be working fine (eg. itunes).
However, when I have opened iphoto, it asks if I want to upgrade - which I let it do. This upgrade has now been at the spinning wheel for 6 days. I am going to let it continue for another day but I am not hopeful.
I think that iphoto is the only thing that is corrupted.
The new IMAC, didn't come with a start up disk
    - how do I delete the iphoto database and start again?
    - I want to try and recover from an earlier version of my iphoto database from timemachine and then add in the photos I am missing?
    - failing that, create a new iphoto database and load from other copies that I have (this will just take a long time as some online, some on disk etc)
    any assistance with this appreciated.

Since it's all about iPhoto, I'd recommend posting in the dedicated iPhoto discussion forum, where it's more likely that you'll find help.

Frankly that is not a good idea
What exactly dd you do? Backin up your pictures is ot the same as backing up your iPhoto library - and if you pur your iPhoto library on an external drve it must be formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - if you backed up your iPhoto library then siply drag it back to the picture folder and launch iPhoto
i open iphoto it asks what library to use
That is because you have no iPhoto library in your pictures folder
deleted my pictures off of my computer.
    And that is why

  • Itunes won't start, new iMac 10.6.6

Extreme frustration. I tried everything, redownload, reinstalled, deleted plists, cleaned caches, repaired permissions (another story in itself, SL 10.6.6 is still beta). When I go to start itunes, it immediately goes to the alert box "quit unexpectedly". Since it's a brand new imac, I get tech support, they couldn't figure it out either. Made a test account and it ran ok, so it appears that the problem is in my home user. I already had to do a reinstall of the system once as the system wouldn't shut down on the original account. Was hoping someone here might be more astute than the SOS appl crew.
    thanks

I have the same, after Apple replaced my HD (it was one of those 'will-maybe-crash disks) trouble started... performance went down, programs won't start up... very frustrating, since apple won't give tech support on that my machine is 2 months old...
