IPhoto won't work with remote

Help! I just got a new 1.83 GHz Macbook and I was trying to use my remote to show my iPhoto pictures. Every time I try, it says no photos have been imported to iPhoto, although I've definitley imported them and can access them otherwise. They're all in film rolls, but I don't think they're in individual folders, etc. What could be going wrong?

Ah...by pull I mean remove the item from its original location..usually putting them onto your desktop (the background) is the quickest place to put them.
When you see a "path" like this ~/library/preferences/com.apple.iphoto.plist
It translates as Your Macintosh HD -> Users Folder -> House with your user name on it -> Library Folder -> Preferences Folder -> a file named com.apple.iphoto.plist.
So when I say "pull" this file, I mean locate that file using the path described and then drag that file onto your desktop.
The next time you run that program (iphoto, frontrow, etc.) it will see that that file is missing and re-create it from a backup copy.
The idea here is that something may have gone wrong with this file (which contains the basic settings for the program). By pulling it out we are forceing the computer to re-create a fresh copy of the file.
Hope that helps.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
Cheers!

how do I upgrade iPhoto so it works with osx

This screenshot shows which previous versions of iPhoto are compatible with Mavericks.  It also indicates which versions qualify for a free upgrade to iPhoto 9.5.1 and which require a purchase:
Note 1:  every day more users are reporting problems with iPhoto 8.1.2 so I've included it in the non compatible category.
Note 2:  If your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 application on the library before opening it with iPhoto 9.5.1.

  • IPhoto won't work with Maverick

Please can anyone help.  Also note I am not a techie!  I have upgraded to OS X maverick and now my iphoto wont work. Keep getting the message:  "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable"  From what I can gather I need to possibly re-build it.  Got no idea what that means!  I backed everything up to Time Machine/Time Capsule before I started but I can't access anything before the date I put the new OS on my laptop.  (Macbook pro/13").
Any help would be very greatly appreciated as there is thousands of photos saved in my iPhoto and I would hate to lose them.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi pollyt30,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you see a message that your iPhoto library is unusable, first make sure you've updated to the latest version of iPhoto. This article explains how to update applications using the Mac App Store:
OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338
Backing up your library was a very good idea, and repairing/rebuilding your iPhoto library is the next troubleshooting step. This article explains how:
iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2638
    To rebuild the iPhoto library:
Quit iPhoto if it is open.
Hold down the Command and Option keys on the keyboard.
    Open iPhoto.
Keep the keys held down until you are prompted to rebuild the library.
A dialog will appear with rebuild options. Select the options you want to use.
I'd suggest trying each step in order, and seeing if your library opens in between each step.
    Best,
    Jeremy

  • IPhoto won't work with my Mac OS X

I am trying to get my EMac going for a son to use.  However when I try to open the iPhoto I get this message "You cannot use this version of the application iPhoto with this version of Mac OS X.  The computer has Mac OS X Version 10.5.8

You will need to purchase an iLife package - v4, 5, 6 08 all will work on that machine. Ebay is your best bet.

  • IPhoto won't work with Mavericks??

    Hi,
I just got mavericks on my used mid-2011 macbook air. iPhoto now has a white slash going through it saying I need to update it. The problem is that when I try to update it, the apple ID that it is connected to is the previous users. I have no problem repurchasing if that is my only option I just need to know how to do it without losing all of my photos!
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Your Photo's are not part of the iPhoto App
Photo's are located in ~/Librbay/Pictures/iPhoto Librbary

  • Apple Remote won't work with Logic

I bought a new iMac (3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and the Apple Remote won't work with Logic 8. It worked fine on my MacBook Pro.

jazzmaniac, I did something by holding down two buttons on the remote for a few seconds. I guess that is called registering. But when I try to play a song file in Logic, Front Row pops up instead.
I've searched the Internet and am finding little on this topic.

Frankly that is not a good idea
What exactly dd you do? Backin up your pictures is ot the same as backing up your iPhoto library - and if you pur your iPhoto library on an external drve it must be formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - if you backed up your iPhoto library then siply drag it back to the picture folder and launch iPhoto
i open iphoto it asks what library to use
That is because you have no iPhoto library in your pictures folder
deleted my pictures off of my computer.
    And that is why

  • I updated my computer to the mavericks and now my iPhoto won't work

I updated my computer to the mavericks and now my iPhoto won't work. And when I go to update iphoto, it says it cant be downloaded onto my computer.

Seems like ios6 isn't any good for any of their devices. I have an iPhone 4 and recently updated to ios6 and have had all the wifi problems and apps getting hung up on load screens. Restore is your best bet and downgrade if you can back to ios 5.1. If restore doesn't help with a fresh install of ios6 then call every Apple support number you can find and be heard like the 1,000s of other people like us with ios6 problems demanding support. There doesn't seem to be any quick fixes for ios6 other than an update from Apple.

Move the incompatible iPhoto version to the Trash, before you try to reinstall from the AppStore, but don't empty the Trash.
    update as described here:
Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities
The main idea is to move the iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the AppStore Purchases tab with ⌘R, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.

  • I had lion and am now using 10.6.8 and my iphoto won't work

I had lion and am now using 10.6.8 and my iphoto won't work I am told that I need to use another version of iphoto

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you're able to create and run a new library successfully the culprit is your current library.
In that case try the following on your current library:
If you have the space available on your hard drive and don't aready have a backup copy of the library make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Commadn+D) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter.

My Viewsonic monitor won't work with the Imac using the Mini Port to DVI adapter. I also tried the HDMI to DVI adapter ane the Mac-Mini with same result. The monitor does work on my older Macbook Pro that has the DVI connector. Is it a Software/Driver issue ?

Should be extremely simple, please carefully read Connect multiple displays to your Mac. If you still have problems then it's probably a cable issue that would be resolved by replacing the adapter cable. You should be using this adapter. If you are using a third party adapter that might be your problem!

  • New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3 says it needs 11.1 but I cannot load that on my macbook using OSX 10.5.8 any way around this?

New ipod touch won't work with itunes 10.6.3, says it needs 11.1 or newer but I cannot load that onto my MacBook running on OSX 10.5.8 - is there anyway around this?

No. If your MacBook has an Intel processor you can update to OSX 10.6.8 and then install the latest iTunes.
A 5G iPod with iOS 7 requires that if you have a Mac you have OSX 10.6.8 or later.
    You can get 10.6.8 here:
