IPhoto wont allow restart for updates
1st Instal iLife
2nd Open iPhoto , it says I need updates so I install them
3rd Computer says " You need to restart" and presents a nice window to restart.
4th New window pops up that says iPhoto wont let you restart.
5th Growl and force quit
What's going on here?

I think it's the Welcome to iLife 09 window that wouldn't allow the restart.
That's because it's a dialogue window. It's waiting for input from you. No app will quit while waiting for user input.

my iphoto wont open since i updated my mac, please help? it says i need to install an iphoto library upgrader which I have installed but still cant see my photos.
What version of iPhoto are you using? 9.6 is the current version.
Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

iphoto wont allow me to share with email, facebook or anything for that matter, can anyone help please. There is no error msg, it is just blanked out.
I have an imac desktop with the latest operating system. Probably a simple thing but I can't think what.Have you enabled any accounts in the iPhoto Preferences "Accounts" panel? Mail accounts, Flickr, FaceBook? Or iCloud photo sharing in the iPhoto Preferences "iCloud" tab? Which kind of "Sharing" do you want to use?
These accounts need also to be enabled in the System Preferences "Accounts" pane. -
Hello, I wanted to update my Mac OS 10.5.2 and i am using dial up modam, Once the machine will ask to restart for updation modem application also close, please suggest how can i update
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
and in the UK:
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether further updates are required.
You should now see the App Store icon, and you now need to set up your account:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

ITunes says my 10.6.3 is up to date and wont allow me to update to11.1.1
iTunes says my 10.6.3 is up to date and wont allow me to update to 11.1.1.
Do I just need to download the new version? Shouldn't iTunes be telling me it needs an update?
I am connected to the internet.
ThanksVanessa0829 wrote:

It says you need Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to run iTunes 11.1.
Updgrading to Mac OS X 10.6 (from any previous version) is not free.
You can get it here -> http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard -

i got a used macbook and the other persons apple id is still connected to the macbook. for example i cant update apps unless i have his passwod but i dont wanna pay for apps such as iphoto and more. is there anything i can do? this is a macbook 13 inch late 2008 model
You're going to have to purchase those apps for yourself. The seller shouldn't have left anything he had purchased on the computer when he sold it to you.

I am unable to restart my computer and install updates because it asks me to quit safari. When I try to "quit safari" it won't let me click on it. It's not highlighted in black....just stays gray. What can I do to remedy this?
Click on it in the dock. If it won't let you click on it do command-option esc keys and quit it from there.

New Iphoto wont open after yosemite update
Also posted in Iphoto for Mac Community
I'm working on a MacBook (2009) and upgraded to Yosemite, which went smoothly. I was prompted to upgrade iphoto so I went to the App Store and it downloaded, but it wont open. The application appears in the applications folder but when I double click, nothing happens. In the application folders it says it was created modified and last opened on Nov 12, but I have yet to open or use the application.
I've tried restarting the machine, with no change. I've restarted the App store with no change. When I check the purchases tab in the App store, or Launchpad, it says the download is "paused" for iphoto. I hit the "resume" button and nothing changes. One time it changed from "paused" to "waiting" It was "waiting" for several hours until the computer went to sleep, it went back to paused. Any ideas on what to try next to get iphoto to work?
thank you in advance!hi Dahveed
since installing yosemite my iphoto is also not working. When I want to update it it gives the following message..
"this update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
Please advise
thank you for your time -
My Macbook Pro will not install/restart for updates when I use Software Update
So when I go into System Preferences and go to Software Update, I click the Check Now Button. It looks for available updates, and gives me a box that says "Software updates for your computer are ready to be installed. Do you want to install them now?" with options to "Show Details", "Not Now", and "Install and Restart". However, when I hit the install and restart button, after hitting a few confirmations, the app simply logs me out, but doesn't restart the computer. When I restart the computer from the Log In screen, the computer reboots without installing any of the updates. I'm on Snow Leopard, is that why updates aren't installing? Am I going to have to manually download all of the updates, or at least that updates that are compatible with Snow Leopard?
There are no updates for Snow Leopard except to Mountain Lion.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
Snow Leopard General Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and
terms apply.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
7. Xserve (Early 2009)
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. -
My pro wont allow any software updates, says theres an error....
Everytime i try to update, it gets to the installation part when it asks for you to restart your computer then it says installation failed due to an error something about files being interrupted during 'writing files' and it doesn't install....
Try repairing the hard drive. Reboot from your Mac OS X install disk, select your language, choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu and then use that to repair the hard drive.

I run version 3.6.13 via Help->About...
However in the help drop down, "Apply Downloaded Update" is active and selecting it wants me to update to 3.6.11
See http://i.imgur.com/PcoTQ.png
How can I remove this downloaded update? And/or make firefox not think it wants to apply an older update?
I run Win7, using a non-admin account. When I get firefox updates, normally I just close firefox then launch it as administrator so it can update. Not sure if that affects anything. Please see this article for instructions on how to solve your problem: [[Updates reported when running newest version]]

Its kind of upsetting because i have to downgrade it to iLife '09 to use it... anyone? You need to re-install:
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List. -
