IPhoto wont launch, continuous SPINNING WHEEL

I lost iPhoto somehow, went online and PURCHASED it for $15. Once installed I attempted to launch and was greeted with the SPINNING GRAY WHEEL...that has overstayed it's welcome.
I have tried restaring my Macbook (Mac OS X Verson 10.6.8), deleting the program and reinstalling...all with the same result of the gray spinning gray wheel that never goes (left my computer alone for hours and came back to it still spinning). I have also updated all software possible on my computer.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • IPhoto upon reopen has continuous spinning wheel.

I have numerous different iphoto libraries and managed them with iphoto library manager.  recently upgraded to iphoto 9.2.2, updated the libraries successfully and then upon reopening, had continuous spinning wheel and no photos. was able to extract photos with manager but this most recent file, which i just created from scratch because of all the problems my old libraries were having, is now doing the same thing. just imported photos from a camera, then upon reopen, nada.  tried to extract in manager, nada. says the file is corrupt. copied the library in manager and it seemed to recognize the photos but again i can't extract. words cannot explain how much i regret upgrading, years of libraries are scattered into bits and pieces.
i tried deleting the iphoto.plist file as i saw this was recommended in a support forum, but this really isn't working either. it only seems to work on one default library.
any help would be appreciated.  thanks.

  • Why when I open my slideshow do i get the continuous spinning wheel and have to force quit

why when I try to open my slideshow do i get a continuous spinning wheel that won't go away and am unable to view my slideshow that took me 24 hours to create.

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it does try this: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If the problem doesn't persist in the test library then your current library is the culprit.  In that case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPhoto 9.2.1 Spinning Wheel (even on a new album)

I'm stuck! I'm on a 2006 iMac with OS X 10.6.8. After updating to iPhoto 9.2.1 through Software Update, iPhoto refuses to run properly. After much finagling (repair disk partitions, rebuild iPhoto library, etc.), I was able to get it to open my existing library, but as soon as I connected my camera, I got the spinning wheel of death. Now, if I just *open* iPhoto, I get the spinning wheel of death before I can do anything at all. As suggested in another thread, I tried holding option and opening iPhoto and creating a new album - that too gives me the spinning wheel! (My camera is *not* still connected.) Any suggestions?

Create a new account (systempreferences -> accounts or Users & Groups on 10.7)  and see if the problem is repeated there. If it is, then a re-install of the app might be indicated. If it's not, then it's likely the app is okay and the problem is something in the main account.

  • All I'm getting is the IMovie window and a continuously spinning wheel...what can I do to fix it?

Even before my update to iOS 5.1 it was doing that, not a very long time ago. My mac is starting to get really slow, and is stopping sometimes and keeps spinning the wheel for a very long time. I updated my mac today, but still in IMovie all I keep getting is the open window and the continuously spinning wheel, how can i fix it? Can you help me please?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I recently lost all of my pictures, and now Iphoto will not loading spinning wheel?

I recently accidently erased over 7,000 pictures from Iphoto when I securely deleted them by accident and could not recover them. Now i'm starting from scratch by inserting my sim cards from my cameras to get the photos back, but everytime I click on Iphoto it doesn't load anything just black screen with spinning wheel, i understand i won't have any albums considering all the pictures are gone. I tried tie option command while opening and it didn't work. Do I have to redownload Iphoto totally? If i do can you explain each step in detail? Thank you so much in advance

Create a new Library. The only one was damaged by the mass deletions.
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

  • IPhoto 9.1.5 spinning wheel importing photos from SD-Card

    Hi,
On the Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo 1.66 GhZ) with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and iPhoto 9.1.5, when inserting a SD-Card from a camera, through a USB Card Reader, iPhoto starts and switches to the import assistant, but won't ever display the content of the card.
iPhoto is not responding, and it is required to Force Quit it. Then eject the memory Card. When restarting iPhoto, still the same issue : even with no Card in the reader, iPhoto shows a spinning wheel. You have to force quit, reboot, and then iPhoto works again.
This scenario happens each time I insert a SD-Card in the reader. I've tried with 2 different SD-Cards.
Importing pictures works well from finder : dragging pictures from the SD-Card in Finder to iPhoto works like a charm.
Disk space free is only 85%, less than 10GB. Total hard disk space 80GB. Total iPhoto Library size is 35GB.
The problem occurred after last software update.
I've not tryed to repair yet, I need to take a backup first.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong ?
    Thanks.
    Philippe

OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • Iphoto '11 unresponsive with spinning wheel

I installed ilife '11 about 6 months ago in order to upgrade to iphoto '11.  It was working fine and I never had any problems until a few days ago when I opened the application and got a never ending spinning wheel.  I eventually had to force quit iphoto.  I have tried many solutions, including rebuilding the library using iphoto itself and using the iphoto Library Manager application to rebuild my library. The library manager was able to rebuild my library, and I was able to import pictures into iphoto for a week, but I am having the same issues again with the spinning wheel. I need another solution because I don't want to lose my 15,000 pictures.

My library is stored on an external hard drive.  I had it on my internal hard drive until it was taking up too much space.  I was also using that external hard drive as my time machine backup, thinking that it would also backup the iphoto library, but I know now that is not the case.

  • IPhoto v9.0.1 Spinning Wheel on startup

I have a 7.8 GB iPhoto library that will no longer open under v9.0.1. It opened and got updated under 9.0. Then I installed the v9.0.1 update and it opened once, but I can not open it again. I have tried rebuilding the library (by holding down Command-Option on startup), but the spinning wheel is all I see.
Is there anything in the package contents that I can fiddle with? I have a backup of all my images, but it would be nice to retrieve the structure of the library somehow. Any other users having trouble after installing 9.0.1?

I use iPhoto Library Manager 3.5.8 to manage several libraries. Unfortunately there does not seem to be anything it can do to remediate this particular library. If I try to rebuild the library, iPLM gives the error message: "Copying photos between libraries is not yet supported with iPhoto 9.0. An update to iPhoto Library Manager will be coming soon to provide full compatibility with iPhoto 9.0."
I had successfully opened one or two of the other libraries, but I'm hesitant now to open any more of them in iPhoto v9.0.1 until I can figure out what caused this problem. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • White screen grey apple continuous spinning wheel

I have a 2008 MacBook which after starting displays a white screen grey apple and spinning wheel
    Have reset  pram
Have tried starting holding option when the hard drive appears on screen I click on it and then the up arrow below it this takes me back to the spinning wheel with apple screen
I don't have the original CDs that came with the machine
    Any suggestions

    See this Apple note: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
One step has you doing a disk repair using Disk Utility. If you don't have any OS X DVD's to boot from, perhaps you have an external bootable backup to startup and run Disk Utlity.

  • Continual Spinning Wheel

Every time I try to do anything simple in Pages I get the dreaded Spinning Wheel.
Just trying to go to the 2nd page, or highlighting a paragraph produces the spinning wheel.
Any ideas how to cure this?

As the problem is in your user account, try to
    quit Pages
    delete these three files :
    Macintosh HD:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Caches:com.apple.iWork.fonts
    Macintosh HD:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Caches:com.apple.iWork.Pages:
    Macintosh HD:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pages.LSSharedFileLi st.plist
